@heregoeseverything @LittleBirdBlues @DirtyThirties (I wish I was slightly more creative with my username haha, I was just in a shocked state possibly),
Thank you all for your kind reassurances. And congratulations to all of you too!
With your answers, I do feel calmer.
The kind GP doctor has also just rung me to confirm the lab test and next steps - booking midwife appointment and yes, you are right, scan is only at 12 weeks.
Yes @LittleBirdBlues, it's really different approach here! When pregnant in Singapore, my friends immediately get a scan from their gynae (not only at 12wks) and get regular scans every month or every 6weeks thereafter. Their care is then managed entirely by a gynae. They are very much more coddled there I suppose!
Excited to be pregnant for the first time in a new country, and I'm also very appreciative there is the NHS service. From my interactions at the GP, everyone has been very nice and communicative with me so far. :)
A quick question abt the NHS scans, seems like there will usually just be 3 - will the first scan also show up any chromosomal disorders or foetal risks? Or do I have to do such scans privately? Or do they only wait till the 2nd scan for this?
I am intending to do a basic private scan where I am (also in London) to really confirm before I tell anyone else in the family. My sister in law just had her second baby last month back home so I'm sure she can offer some insight but I don't feel ready to tell until I see more confirmation (this is me being very cautious and anxious i guess!). Only my husband knows and bless him, he's been supportive but he's understandably quite clueless (he has only brothers) and has always been quite healthy and barely used his NHS as an adult citizen.
