Lovely to have you join us Amester, hopefully after the sadness of your first pregnancy you're able to really enjoy this one. Have you got a name all picked out yet ?

Amester · 12/04/2007 13:01

We both love the name Amber which is lucky because its the only one we can agree on. So I really hope when she is born that she looks like an Amber!!

loler · 12/04/2007 13:31

Hello - this new thread is filling up fast!

We've decided on names but are arguing about how they are spelt! I spose it doesn't really matter but am getting hormonal and tearful about it!!

tokentotty · 12/04/2007 13:33

Come on then Loler - we'll help. Want to tell us the options ?

OP posts:
loler · 12/04/2007 13:49

Euan or Ewan

and Jonee or Joney - Manx girls name pronouced (sp?) joan - ee

Would like feed back - thanks

Am bored and hot and can't be bothered to do any work!!!

tokentotty · 12/04/2007 13:50

Has Jonee/Joney got a traditional Manx spelling?

OP posts:
Hersetta · 12/04/2007 14:06

One of our current Guinea pigs (we have 7 plus a bunny) is called Amber so we definitely couldn't use that as a baby name. Unfortunately for DH his preferred choice of girls name (Abigail) is also taken by a pig but he's holding on in the hope I might change my mind. Someone has to give - I might just cry a lot and see if he gives in to my choice!!

Our new bunny is only a baby - 10 weeks. She lives with 4 pigs and already she is like an honourary pig (going mad at food time like the pigs do - very un bunnified). DH named her Stella (obviously after his favourite beer) and has plans for the next two pigs to be called Scrumpy and Jack. Most of the rest of the clan have weird named - they are all named after basketball players!

loler · 12/04/2007 14:10

Both spellings are traditional - I think it's that the Manx have only recently learnt to write! Isle of Man is a bit of a strange place!

loler · 12/04/2007 14:13

We wanted to call DS martha if he was a girl, this is same as our cat - I ran her over the week before he was born (she did survive after very large vets bill) - friends joked it was so I could reuse her name!

MrsBadger · 12/04/2007 14:15

I like the sound of it but would worry people might misread it as Jonny. Why not Joanie?

Euan beats Ewan in my opinion, not quite sure why though...

Hersetta · 12/04/2007 14:21

Lol at loler

conkertree · 12/04/2007 14:24

hersetta - i got very excited there for a minute thinking you kept pigs (a dream of mine) but then read it again and realised it was probably guinea pigs you were referring to - not that there is anything wrong with guinea pigs, but its big fat pink ones that i want

kiteflying · 12/04/2007 14:28

Hi everyone and welcome to Amester.

Like conker, I had visions of a tiny bunny running around with big pink porkers. Obviously a hormonal moment.

I like Euan too. I agree with the suggestion that you "anglicize" Joney to Joanie to save confusion. Great choices loler.

I hope Martha is still around?

tokentotty · 12/04/2007 14:29

Well I wondered if there was an accepted, traditional spelling as otherwise I might be tempted to go for Joni (as in Mitchell). However, I think Jonee is nicer than Joney but I'd have to question how people would pronounce it. God i can waffle....

OP posts:
loler · 12/04/2007 14:35

Thanks for the comments.

I thought you were talking about pink pigs too - was wondering if you live on a farm!

Unfortunately Martha is still around have been trying to lose her for years but she won't take the hint! Someone once said to me that beofre you have kids pets are part of the family and after they turn into just animals. I think they seem to turn into hard work!

I sound such a grumpy old women .

Annie75 · 12/04/2007 14:39

Ha! Found you all Was thinking the other day that it would be nice to talk to other mums-to-be in August and here you were all along...

Tis my first, due 10th and didn't want to know what flavour. Am really excited about the whole process - and a bit nervous too.

Okay, whispers what does DS, DD and DS etc stand for? Is it 'dear son' etc? Have never been quite sure...

Think pet's names are generally a good source of names. I have a leaning towards feline names (which my other 'alf hates) - names like Tabitha (so lovely), Sheba and Kitty. Also, reckon gravestones are another good source, if that doesn't sound too macabre. Could be a bit weird explaining that one to your child, though

MrsBadger · 12/04/2007 14:41

yes, dear husband etc - up at the top of the page by 'Useful Stuff' is a link to the Acronym List which might be handy

GillL · 12/04/2007 14:43

I'm sure your ds will come round pinkranger. Do you think he has realised that he won't get as much attention?

I think it's totally realistic not to be getting dressed in the first few weeks. After all, you'll probably be going back to bed at least once during the day so what's the point? My dd used to wake up at 5am so I'd feed her and she'd go back to sleep. I'd go back to bed and she didn't wake again until 11am. Meant I missed out on any morning mum and baby groups but who cares when you're that tired.

The baby's name is such a huge issue in our house. DH hates everything that I like but hasn't come up with any ideas himself. I always wanted to call any sons that I had Daniel or Matthew but they have both been vetoed. I know we've got 4 months to go but I really think we're going to end up with a name I'm not happy with. After all, I chose dd's name (albeit after putting our preferred names in a hat and picking one out) so dh will probably say it's his turn.

GillL · 12/04/2007 14:46

I agree with you on the pets loler. Our cats used to be like our children but when dd came along we just don't have the time to spend with them that we used to. I feel bad about it but there's not much I can do when I've got a cat on my lap and dd is mithering me to sit on the floor to do a puzzle with her.

tokentotty · 12/04/2007 14:49

So what does DH suggest as names instead of your ones GillL ?

OP posts:
tokentotty · 12/04/2007 14:50

Oh and big hello to Annie75 - you're very, very welcome to join us and snap on your due date! We've got a stats page somewhere if you wanted to add yourself to that.

OP posts:
Hersetta · 12/04/2007 14:54

Oops sorry all. Yes small, furry and squeaky variety rather than pink and wallowing in mud.

We usually choose silly names for our ainimals although we're going through a relatively normal phase for us with our Chinchilla called Leo and pigs called Eric, Sam and Delilah.

I really like Oliver but that was the name of my nan's dog and I also don't like I could get that through DH. Gill, matthew is one is the 2 boys names that DH and I agree on at the moment so I think that will be our first choice.

Annie75 · 12/04/2007 14:56

Thanks MrsB - I think my brain really has shrunk (actually read something fairly alarming the other day saying that pregnant women's brains shrink by 8% during and up to six months after. Sure it's propaganda, but am starting to believe it ). (Are you still waiting for your doppler scan btw?)

Was wondering this morning how many months pregnant I am (you know, saying weeks means nothing to most people). I mean, I know I'm 23 weeks, but if say there's 4 weeks in a month, that makes me nearly six months, but I've got just under 4 months by my reckoning... Hmm, this sounds like a brain-has-shrunk question, so perhaps best ignored...

Hersetta · 12/04/2007 14:56

ooh poor Shawn. Forgot our pig Shawn (so named becasuse he looks like a sheep (honestly he does) so was named after the sheep in Wallace and Gromit.

kiteflying · 12/04/2007 14:59

OK, really I did not need another thing to worry about but our cats are definitely not going to be relegated to non-status, are they? Mine are fifteen and eleven and we have been researching ways of alleviating stress when introducing a new baby...
Of course bubs will come first, but my fifteen year old is going to need increasing amounts of TLC over the next couple of years.
