Hi Ladies

Just noticed that you were talking about reusable nappies- I've got a complete birth to potty set available for sale if anyone is interested
I've just posted in the For Sale section, but basically it's the perfect combination of Tots Bots nappies and MotherEase wraps, as recommmended for most poeple by the Nappy Lady (where I bought them). Cost me over £300 new, but hoping to get £125 for the lot. All you'd need is a few muslins (if using for a newborn) and a nappy bukcet and you'd be all set!

Sorry, been ages as was waiting for the midwife and she was rather late. anyway, worth the wait as all is fab ! Bloody pressure perfect, congratulated on not putting on loads of weight, blood sugar test came back perfect so no diabetes for me (slice of victoria sponge consumed to celebrate this) and it's the baby's head that's down which explains my need to go to the toilet constantly.
Have created another thread and am desperately trying to link to it so will post again when I've worked out why I can't cut and paste the URL.....

Thanks for all the insurance advice, I need to get coverage for my stuff anyway, so may as well get one that will cover health too. Would be great if you can find the name of the company TT, then I can find the cheapest! Hope your mw appointment was fine, tell us all about Vegas!

Hello all. Just had a quick catch up on all the posts. Love the names coming up! It's so hard to think of original ones. I love the name Mia for a girl, but it's been really popular after Kate Winslet called her daughter that. More naming stats here .

TT - glad you had an ace time in Las Vegas. Did you sneak off to get married or have you already done that deed? Yeah, maybe we could do with a new thread as this one's taking a while to load each time.

Boobooma - thanks for directing me to the NCT website for the birthing pool. I'm a member and didn't think that they might have
them for sale. Will check them out.

Poor Bananabump - what a crappy morning you had. Hope seeing your baby again went some way to compensating for the way you were treated. The sonographer sounded just dismissive and awful. Not what you want/expect or deserve. I'm due to have another two growth scans as they said there's an outside possibility the baby might be a bit small. Best way to approach these appointments, I reckon, is to go armed with a list of questions which you print out and keep checking back that they've been answered (making notes as they talk certainly makes them think about what they're saying). I went into my consultant appt armed with a list of qs and an attitude (as I wanted a home birth and didn't see why I'd been referred to consultant-led care). She ended up asking someone for a strong cup of coffee - obviously too early in the morning for all the qs!

Banana - I feel fine today although i have noticed the bump looks huge today. Maybe it was some weird stretching thing going on. Although didn't feel like anything i had before. Hope all goes well with consultant tomorrow.

Funbun - We had Finlay and Alfie on our list but baby is still Albie at the moment -thats a month with same name so a record for us.

Do you think there's a limit to how much Gaviscon you should drink. Doesn't actually say on the bottle but this heartburn is driving me insane. Had to buy another bottle at lunch time. It works for about an hour then comes back. I've given up with the meauring spoon now and am just swigging from the bottle - very ladylike.
Anyone got any good remedies?

Thanks mrsshuvel, no I wasn't on my own, dp was there thankfully and he gave me a hug when we got outside and said it was unnecessary!

I'll be on my own tomorrow but I'm likely to be in "not taking any shit" mode, so the consultant had better watch out!

Gosh, the pain you were in sounds weird, do you feel ok today? Jealous of your extra boobage though lol mine haven't gone up that much as yet!

Recent names I've heard that seem ot be getting more common are Finn/Finley, Isabella/Arabella/Annabella and Isaac. All lovely but it would be a shame if when the little darlings went to school they were one of 2 or 3 with the same name. Also Alfie.

I don't know how to check recent popular names but I do find myself reading the 'Births' section in the local paper.

More NCT classes tonight - DP wasn't too keen on the group tasks last week but felt it was worthwhile - nice bunch of other mums all due around the same in this area which is nice.

Katybird - I'm just going to use the E111 equivalent when i go to France in two weeks, i used the AA for my travel insurance to the US though. They were reasonably priced and insure quite late into pregnancy, can't remember exactly how many weeks (PG brain!).

at the way you were treated Banana, i make GillL right, i would have been in tears too. Did you go on your own? I don't know if i could have handled someone being rude to me if i was on my own. Especially if it's their job to reassure you everything's alright.

Glad everyone's had fab holiday's. Mine seems like an age ago now. Hope you picked up some baby bargins in the US TT.

Trying to convince DP that we need to order Bugaboo and car seat at the weekend. You see after all that shopping on holiday i'm having withdrawals and need to buy more baby things.

Not sure if i had Braxton Hicks yesterday or not but something weird was going on. I was in terrible pain, couldn't eat my dinner and had to go and lay on the bed on all fours with pillows supporting my belly while DP rubbed my back. Lastest about an hour. Also getting back ache but not low down, higher up. I think it might have something to do with the increasing massiveness of my boobs. I think i'm going to have to get measured for more bras.

bananabump My BH's have been light cramps with rise and fall, also hardening tummy, mainly it's when I walk, it did get DH worried (keep him on his toe's ) but I did have them most of the weekend!

I just know I'd be really stressed if I had to wait for dh to come home and for someone to pick dd up before we went to the hospital. If I'd listened to the midwives at the hospital last time and stayed home any longer then dd would have been born either at home or in the car. I've got the wait for the results of my second growth scan (first one on 31st May) but if everything's ok and I reach 37 weeks then it should all be fine.

GillL I had DS#1 within 4 hours, and DS#2 within 3 hours, I've booked a "home birth" as I've been having dreams about having this LO on the kitchen floor unplanned home birth!

Hi all, thanks for the moral support. I've gotten over feeling indignant now, was just a bit shocked since it's the first time anyone has made more than the briefest of comments on my weight. I probably won't complain because it'll look as if I'm being oversensitive, which maybe I am a bit. Who isn't when they're pregnant?

Conkertree, amazed at your friends 2 hour labour! At least it was 3am on the motorway, and not 5.15pm with all the rush hour traffic rubbernecking over it.

Not had any (palpable) braxton hicks yet, what do they feel like?

Hello all. Glad all the holidays were good. It's scary to think about some of you being 30 weeks already. I'm only 27 weeks but I'm sure I'll start to get scared in a few weeks time. It's mainly because I know what to expect.

Banana - I can't believe what that woman put you through. I would have been in tears!

Conkertree - I'll be having my second baby. My first labour was 5 1/2 hours from first symptom to delivery. That's why I've asked for a home birth. I really don't want to deliver this one in the car.

I had a nice relaxing weekend. Dd stayed at mum and dad's Friday night so dh and I went out for dinner and to see a film. It was so nice to have peace on quiet on Saturday morning! On Sunday we went to the seaside with dh's dad and girlfriend. The weather was very pleasant and we sat on the (virtually empty) beach for a while before going back to fil's, who made us dinner. Also met new neighbour who has a dd who is only 3 weeks old than my dd. Should be good for her to have a new playmate. We don't know anyone in the area, despite having lived there for 5 years. My sister is up the road but prefers to spend the weekends with her kids and dh on their own.

conkertree I have my "placenta scan" at 35 weeks so in about 5/6 weeks (OMG just round the corner now) time and my DS's are coming to, MW said that if I tell the lady/scanner that the children have come to see the baby for the first time she'll do a longer (with it being a late PG scan and just to see if placenta has moved) scan just for them, bless!

Hello all !! Back from Las Vegas yesterday and taken today and tomorrow off to rest up and sort out my bodyclock. Midwife coming over any minute though for a check up and to take blood (boo !). Think she's doing the Glucose test as well as she told me to have lunch at midday and nothing sweet until she'd been.
How are we all ??? I'm massive, getting kicked/punched, you name it, all the time now and have spent this morning sorting through baby clothes that I bought from others on MN and what I brought back from the States with me. Even bought Peanut's first teddies and felt rather emotional as I sat on the bed with everything all round me .
Banana - am absolutely horrified to read about your sonographer experience and would definitely, definitely complain and take it further. No-one should ever be treated like that and I really think you're absolutely right that it's due to her incompetence and lack of ability that she's had to behave that way in a vain attempt to hide it.
Katybird - get the E111 equivalent for your travel to Spain, I never take out insurance in Europe as this guarantees you'll receive care for every eventuality in the same way as you'd receive care wherever you were in England. If you do feel that you want that bit of extra security then I can dig out the people I insured myself through to go the US last week as I was given their name/number here on MN as one others had used. Will dig it out for you to call them if you like.


Might start another new thread as this one's getting so large, what do you think ?

Hi conkertree, glad you had a fab holiday, what did you get up to? Bit of a boring question but did you get travel insurance? I'm going away in a few weeks and I want to make sure they cover me for pregnancy-related stuff, just in case.

OMG, well done to your friend and her partner for delivering on the motorway! Hope they're all doing well.

Not much has happened with me, we toured the local birth centre last week and it was lovely, so we'll be booking in there.

hi everyone - back from fantastic holiday - dont have time to read all posts just now (if ever - two weeks worth would probably take another two weeks to read) but hope you are all doing well.

read the last few posts - sorry to hear about the rude sonographer bananbump - not what you need at any time let alone when you have questions about why they are doing tests etc.

hope to catch up with everyone soon, but if there has been anything major in the last two weeks, i'd appreciate a very quick update.

have any of the low lying placenta women had their next scan yet? i have mine on friday.

oh for all those having their second babies - our friend had her baby girl last friday on the hard shoulder of the M90. time from waters breaking to giving birth was 2 hours (her first labour was about 36 hours so this was rather unexpected) so her dh delivered his baby girl at 3am (with a little help from the nhs on the end of the phone).

Bananabump, what an awful woman! You should definitely complain. There's no way you should have to put up with treatment like that, even if you were horribly obese and had a history of breaking tables that's still no excuse for rudeness. Hope the consultant's a bit nicer.

Bananabump-just wanted to say sorry for horrible morning, that was a very rude sonographer, in more ways than one.
You have a right to be angry and i'd complain,if it's not her responsibility to comment on growth she shouldn't have.

I hope you get some better treatment tomorrow.

Uki yep but that's men for you, a "surprise baby" which I feel great about now. My friend who is 33 weeks said this afternoon that she started getting BH around 30 week, so I feel assured by her now!

Just got back from the hospital after my scan (Kiteflying: it's sposed to be a 30 week growth one but I'm 29+2) having had a bit of a shit time really. Firstly the sonographer took one look at me and demanded to know how much I weighed "in case they needed to use a stronger table" wtf? Yes, because I'm THAT big I can buckle metal tables with the power of my lard.

Anyway I informed her that the same table had "held up" in my past three scans in the same room, and promptly lay down. She then told me that because I was overweight she wouldn't be able to see anything, and then poked around for all of three minutes with the screen turned away, didn't explain anything to me, then cursorily flipped the screen around and said "there's his head, there's his heart. Can't get a better image because of your weight" (The last sonographer managed to, but it's easy to blame other factors for when you aren't that good at your job, isn't it?)

Anyway she said his growth has tailed off, and she was just closing the door on me when I asked some more questions, so she told me go to antenatal for the results to be deciphered. When I got there they hooked me up to a monitor for 30 mins, everything was fine, heartbeat normal, plenty of kicks etc.

I'm just feeling a bit confused now because though they keep explaining tiny bits of what they're doing, I don't really know what they're expecting to find. Why did I need a growth scan in the first place? Because they expect him to be huge because of all the pies I eat? Bah, I'm fed up.

And the sonographer left my bellybutton full of KY jelly. Cow.

Anyway, consultants appointment tomorrow so he can inform me that I'm fat too. Wahey.

Hi everyone, managed to catch up without having to read hundreds of posts this time! Hope you all had a good weekend. Sorry to hear about the pulled muscle/conjunctivitis, hope you both get sorted soon.

funbun - which insurer are you going with? I'm off to Spain in a few weeks and I want to pick one who covers pregnancy, just in case. Got the E111 card though, so should be fine. I went to France at easter and it was hard to avoid the cheese but all the bread and croissants more than made up for it! Brie and the like are ok if they're cooked too, so you don't have to avoid it completely.

Love all the name choices, especially Imogen and Harper. Maybe DP would go for it as a middle name funbun?

loler - some of the women at my yoga class have back pain and they've had great success with osteopathy. I'm going to see a chiropractor about mine this week, but might try an osteopath too.

Afternoon all

3 friends in 3 weeks have all had first babies early- one 2 weeeks, one 10 days and one a week. Starting to rethink maternity leave plans.....(and panic slightly due to my complete lack of preparation).

Re names- everyone seems to be calling their little girls Isabelle and Isabella at the moment- know of at leat 5 in last 2 month!
