I would definitely recommend sleeping bags in general though. From 8 weeks dd could roll over. From that point she never kept blankets on at night, no matter how many times we put them back on her. We didn't have to worry about her getting cold when she had her sleeping bag on. The fun came when she was able to stand up in it.

funbun · 30/04/2007 15:33

Thought it might be Braxton Hicks but wasn't what I expected from that, it was like a cramping pain. My mate who i work with who is due in June said it might be wind!!!!

GillL · 30/04/2007 15:45

Hi funbun. I was getting cramping pains the other day quite low down. I put it down to trapped wind.

tokentotty · 30/04/2007 16:19

Is anyone getting 'downward' kicks ?

OP posts:
pinkranger · 30/04/2007 16:21

Hi all,
Having really strange kicks, for a few days he will be quiet and little gentle kicks and on saturday night, siiting on sofa and i flew up in the air , kicked me so HARD that i jumped!!

With regards to downwards kicks YES, gives you a really weird Vibrating feeling down there!!!!

tokentotty · 30/04/2007 16:26

Ooooh Pink they're shockers aren't they ! Got one in a restaurant on Friday night just as a waiter was pouring wine into DH's glass. He thought he'd managed to get it down me or something as I shrieked and nearly jumped out of my chair !! Really took my breath away I can tell you. Still, should get used to it, Peanut's been going absolutely nuts for about three days now.

BabyMadwithBump · 30/04/2007 18:14

95 days to go!

Yes, upwards, downwards, sides, ribs, yes kicks everywhere, How is everyone? Any one getting any BH? I had some 2 nights ago reminded me of my labours didn't want to be reminded of them so soon!

loler · 30/04/2007 19:11

Have been housebound since Thursday as DD has chicken pox - seems to be taking ages to come out, she's had new spots today so guess I'm off work for rest of the week then off again next week when DS get it! (hoping he is getting it as all he's done today is scream - if that's just him I'm not liking him very much!).

Was DS birthday (2) yesterday - we were going to the zoo but ended up having a picnic in the garden - had a really good time! Since having kids I've realised that birthdays should be about the parents - all day me and DH were going - about now I had the epidural, about now my waters broke, about now I started pushing. Looked at the old photos and wondered where the time had gone!

Someone else had an out break of chicken pox didn't they? Was going to ring paranoid parents helpline (NHS direct) but haven't had time - As long as I've had it there's no problem is that right?

hoohoo · 30/04/2007 21:24

Hi all, have popped in and out of these threads since Christmas, just lurking but i really want to be on one I have 2 boys aged 3.7 and 2.4 and we are expecting another little boy due the 12th Aug. He will be named Baby as me and Dh can not agree on names. Having the same craving for ice cubes again but also chocolate spread on toast how healthy Also getting kicked like mad hurts at the top of bump, i honestly believe he is standing up in here!
Been watching all the other antenatal threads, going into labour and overdue and getting so excited. Well sorry for rambling but i hope i can join in??

splodj · 30/04/2007 21:52

Hi all. Sorry about my horror story yesterday- I'm sure it's not at all normal!

Has anyone checked out freecycle.org for babystuff? People advertise things they don't need any more and if you write back first you get to go and pick it up for free! It goes by local area and saves stuff from going to the tip.

I'm really thrilled because I've got a fridge and a Maclaren Techno XT buggy (!!!!) on freecycle this weekend. The buggy's wheels are a bit worn, but it's in good nick apart from that.

loler, I don't know about chickenpox, but I've always found NHS direct really good for my worried moments - give them a call!

splodj · 30/04/2007 21:53

crossed posts - hi hoohoo!

Uki · 30/04/2007 23:55

Hi Again

i haven't been around much either.

Endless- i remember you well, sorry to hear about scare, glad bubs ok.

After a sneezeing incident yesterday, I thought it was time to remind myself and you all again to do those pelvic floor exercises.

Have toddler climbing all over me right now, so better go.

Nice to hear about all the purchases. I have to say I think the whole pram thing is overrated, you will probably just love to have a small stroller, when the baby turns 6 months, so much easier to store, push and unpack

SweetyDarling · 01/05/2007 08:37

Hi HooHoo,
Welcome to the sweaty-summer-baby club.
I've been getting a few well aimed blows to the bladder recently (either that or I have cystitis) and def some downward kicks as well - very odd sensation!
I finally bit the bullet and ordered the new Macalaren Travel System last night. I went into John Lewis to buy it yesterday morning and was told that the car seat wasn't isofix compatible so I decided to look for something else. Anyway, I called Macalaren and it IS isofix compatible (Duh JL!) so I have one on the way. Lovely in the tan and red colours.

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 01/05/2007 09:52

hi hoohoo,

CAnt belive that some of you and the end of the months like me and few others are coming into the third trim!! How exciting, as you can see have changed my name as dh kindly pointed out the i '' `Waddle when i walk" now!!!!

tokentotty · 01/05/2007 10:04

Morning Pink - I hear you about the waddle at the moment it's only really noticeable when I need the toilet. Oh hang on, that's all the bloody time !!
Can clarify on chicken pox: If you've had it and you're past 12 weeks and less than 38 weeks then all is absolutely fine. Just had to do my own research due to nephews both having it so am absolutely confident all's fine.
And a massive welcome to Hoohoo - lovely that you're joining us x

SweetyDarling · 01/05/2007 10:47

It's the getting up and down from the sofa that makes me feel really preggers. That steriotypical heaving - makes DH laugh.
feeling pretty fine though really.

funbun · 01/05/2007 11:03

Hi to new people. I'm finding the getting up and down from seats a bit difficult, I always thought when actresses were being pregnant in films and tv that they were ott with the getting in and out of chairs thing but I'm very aware that I'm starting to look like that!

Don't think the cramps I've been suffering are BH but the trapped wind idea seems to fit.

One of my BF's had a baby girl yesterday, 25hr labour and forceps in the end. Baby Kitty (which was one on our list that I'll have to cross off now) is fine though. Get very scared when I hear labour stories!

GillL · 01/05/2007 11:20

Hello and welcome hoohoo.

Thanks for the pelvic floor reminder UKI!

I've been having kicks low down. It's not hurt yet or made me jump luckily. With dd, I never got the kicks in the ribs that everyone talks about. No BH either but then I never got those either with dd (as far as I can remember).

myweegirl · 01/05/2007 11:41

i stood up to do a presentation 2 weeks ago to about 170 people with roving microphone (which was bad enough) and got a kick right at my cervix - so the first words out of my mouth was 'ouch that hurt'!!!

endlesslove - i also have cervical erosion - bleeding/pain every now and again. so i can sympathise - it is very worrying even though they say 'it's common and not to worry' still do. not many of the pregnancy books cover it and web searches tend to talk about it when not pregnant.

i'm a big fan of sleeping bags and would recommend them - as my DD never kept blankets on at all - we would frequently get wakened by her lifting her legs up and thumping them down on the moses basket till the blankets were off - it's hard enough to sleep at the start never mind the rustling and bottom noises :-) so the sleeping bags helped stop some of the noise.

Annie75 · 01/05/2007 12:49

Hello - and hello HooHoo and other newbies

Isn't it just lovely today? Forecast same for rest of the week - waaaay too nice to be at work. Figured I'd better buy some fans soon - beat the summer rush as we'll be needing them by then!

I've been getting some surprising kicks too - the other day I was rubbing my side and suddenly realised it felt as though I were massaging my intestines! Everything is on the move Though er, the most embarrassing thing has been unexpected and loud wind over the last few days - and I get no warning signs! I'm blaming it on the baby .

Also, anyone found that they're unable to eat fruit or drink fruit juice at breakfast? I've finally figured out that it makes me sick after worrying why I was having morning sickness at this stage. Must be the acid. Though I'm starting to wonder if it takes after its dad and just isn't keen on the healthy stuff...

conkertree · 01/05/2007 13:57

hi everyone - am having a quick break for lunch - desperately trying to get as much work as possible done before i go off on holiday tomorrow at 5pm. cant wait, but the work to get through first is a pretty huge pile.

am not getting any particular symptoms just now - was feeling tired earlier in the week, but think i am running on adrenalin just now (sorry baby).

conkertree · 01/05/2007 13:58

meant to say - i get lots of the lower down kicks that feel like vibrations more than an individual kick.

GillL · 01/05/2007 15:06

I'd definitely recommend installing a ceiling fan Annie. It's great to have one in the bedroom for those hot humid nights. We also got a portable air con unit which we put on for a couple of hours before we go to bed. I'm sure we pay heavily in electricity bills but it's so worth it to get a good nights sleep.

bananabump · 01/05/2007 23:24

Hi guys, hope everyone's doing ok and enjoying the beautiful weather before we all start swelling up and complaining it's too darn hot!

Re: The kicking. Mine does loads of downwards kicks, sometimes he kicks this place somewhere around my bits where there must be a nerve and it actually makes me feel quite sick! Those are the "shockers". Most of the time he seems to just enjoy kicking my bladder when it's full. Wonder if he's going to be a football player?

Annie: I can drink fruit juice just fine whatever time of the day, it's toothpaste that starts me off feeling sick in the morning! Maybe it's just an individual thing. I've started getting heartburn now though, not sure what you can take when pregnant so I've been drinking milk. Does anyone know if rennies/tums are ok to take?

Splodj: I'm a total freecycle nut! I have just seen a mothercare pram advertised on my local freecycle. I do have a travel system but I know some people think they aren't good for newborns as they don't fold down flat. This pram also faces front or back, which is nice. Anything I don't use will be put back on freecycle anyway, it's such a great idea.

Does anyone visit i-am-pregnant.com?

It's a pretty good site, I like the fact that if you put your due date in, it will tell you exactly how far along you are, and how the baby is doing this week. example:

There are 94 days until your due date on August 04, 2007.
You are 186 days pregnant.
You are 6.1 months pregnant.
You are in your 7th month of pregnancy.
Your 1st trimester: October 28, 2006 to January 26, 2007. (0 - 12 weeks)
Your 2nd trimester: January 27, 2007 to May 11, 2007. (13 - 27 weeks)
Your 3rd trimester: May 12, 2007 to August 04, 2007. (28 - 40 weeks)

bananabump · 01/05/2007 23:32

Also, epregnancy.com has a nice daily pregnancy calendar page which has handy tips and thoughts for that day, and (big geek that I am) it tells you how far along you are with a percentage bar, like this:

This is day number 186
You're 26 weeks pregnant
Your baby's age since conception is 172 days / 24 weeks
There are 94 days until your due date! (33.6% to go)

33.6% isn't much when you think about it, is it? eek!
