Hahahahahha yes, started thinking that myself Sweety! That's exactly my thinking Conkertree to be honest. If you shine a torch on to the palm of your hand you can see the light through the back can't you? Am not funny about many things but for some reason the sun is one of them.

Yep, was going to cover bump with sarong or some such but give it a little bask now and then. Have found that pigment is a bit wacky at the moment. I'm dark and freckled and my freckles are really showing clearly at the moment, DP pointed it out last night.

We went on hols with pregnant mate a couple of years ago and her hubby used to dig a little hole in the beach so she could lie on her tum with bump in hole! Might get DP to do that for me. Went for some chiropracter treatment the other day and my chiropractor arranged her bench so there was a hole my bump would fit in and I could lie on my tum - it was lovely - gosh I miss it

Hi everyone- after a particlarly bad week at work am off tomorrow for 2 weeks in Sardinia. Yippee (although slightly upset that won't be able to partake in all the food and wine)
Not sure what to do re sunbathing (altho weather forecast doesn't look that great)but will be covering my bump with a tankini anyway as the acres of white flesh are almost too much for me to bear, let alone anyone else. I remember last summer in Spain all the spanish women were exposing their bumps in August sunshine so don't know what's for the best really...Hopefully will have a bit of time to browse my baby name book anyway!
Hope everyone has a good couple of week- must have finished most of the 20 week scans now?

tokentotty · 27/04/2007 14:23

Hey Jem, am so glad you're getting away for a lovely two week break. Will be fabulous to just relax and enjoy youself. Remember, a few glasses of red wine are actually good for you !!

OP posts:
jem1969 · 27/04/2007 16:37

Thanks TT
I know about the wine being good but I really just don't fancy it much! If I have anything to drink I seem to get this image of the baby being force fed drink down its throat! (and I felt a bit pissed on half a glass of champagne the other day and even though noone else would have been able to tell I just felt a bit bad). Quite happy to forcefeed baby with chocolate and cakes though and don't feel remotely moral about anyone else drinking if pregnant (sensibly obviously). Oh well- at least I'll be a cheap date when i can drink again

mum2george · 27/04/2007 21:25

Hi GillL

Have every sympathy with you over the sleep thing. DS woke about 3 times last night and I was totally worn out this morning. Am working full-time this week (usually only do 2 days) and had been really missing him. This morning though I was SO tired that I thought I would be better off at work as at least it is easier to cope with than a stroppy 3 year old when you are tired! I've never been able to see before today why some women who don't have to work choose to work when they have kids. How old is your DD?

Hersetta

My SIL was told to buy a cot instead of a cotbed as No1 will be using the cotbed when you need it as a cot for No2. So she bought a cot and had a really tall baby who outgrow the cot long before she wanted to put the child in a bed and now has to put up with her DD running around the bedroom at night and she is too young to reason with! We have a cotbed and its fab but it was given to us so we didn't have much choice really.

And I can't remember who said that they were going to the Baby Show in Glasgow at the weekend but have a lovely time. I went to the one in Birmingham 3 years ago on the last day and in the afternoon lots of stalls starting selling things off. Got a great changebag for half price and everyone has always commented on how nice it is. Have a fab time!

bananabump · 27/04/2007 21:34

Hi guys! everyone's jetting off on holiday, I'm very

I had something really weird happen earlier. Baby has gotten soo much stronger over the last fortnight, and earlier I was lying on my back on the sofa, crushed up against the arm with my legs up, so the bump was pretty squished.

I started getting stitch pains in my ribs over and over but not in a rhythm. I ignored them for a bit then put my hand down on my lower ribs and they were bulging out on one side! It was so gross, I leapt up and everything went back to normal.

NOT looking forward to when he can do that properly. Felt very weird!

splodj · 29/04/2007 12:42

Hi Bananabump and all!

I doubt you want to know this, but my friend's little sister broke their mum's rib with a kick not long before her due date - they were eating dinner and everyone heard the crack!

Very jealous of holidays. Just getting back into the routine after a nice break over Easter. Have fun anyway

bananabump · 29/04/2007 19:39

Waah! Thank god he hasn't reached them yet then.

SweetyDarling · 29/04/2007 19:57

Ouch! That's horrible - I had no idea they could do that!?

conkertree · 30/04/2007 08:55

Hmm yes not something to be dwelt on I'd think or we will all turn into nervous wrecks.

purplerabbit and I went to the Baby Show in Glasgow on Saturday - made my first purchases. Got a didymos sling cause i've wanted one from the start and there were quite good deals on them, so thought I might as well. Very pleased with it - she showed me some of the ties and they are much easier than i thought they might be.

Also got a trial pack of tots bots nappies, and have hired a tens machine for 6 weeks around my due date. We also finally agreed that we both like the maclaren techno use from birth buggy - i know it has some disadvantages but we plan to use the didymos lots, so its not going to be the only mode of transport for the lo.

SweetyDarling · 30/04/2007 09:32

Conkertree, I'm with you on the Macalren. Apart from anything else I measured the narrowest part of our front steps and it's only a cm or so wider than the Maclaren, so no way a Bugaboo is an option!! Could be an issue if I invite friends with babies over!!
I like the new one in the tan and red colouring which comes as a travel system. Think I'll go and get it today in fact!

GillL · 30/04/2007 10:20

Morning all. I had quite a good weekend. DD's bedroom is finally finished and she spent her first night in there last night. It's so nice to have our own space now. We've got some storage back as well, which is good because we ended up having to pile clothes up wherever we could find room. It's also great to have all her toys up in her room. Our living room is now clutter free and it feels like our room now instead of a play room.

mum2george - totally agree with you about preferring to be at work sometimes. Because dd doesn't sleep til late most nights, she's tired when she gets up in the morning. Normally by 11am on Saturday mornings I've had enough. She's 2 years and 1 month.

I've been thinking of getting a sling conkertree. I'll check out the didymos later.

endlesslove · 30/04/2007 10:25

Hello all. I posted here when I first found out I was pregnant but haven't been since, just lurking. I had some bleeding early and just kept thinking not to post here in case the worst happens!

Still I am now 24+2 and due 18th August. I am feeling not to bad, was in hospital on Thursday last due to bleeding and pain and turns out I have a cervical erosion. Am signed off this week at work to rest. I do have a small bump and am now just starting to find moving about a little uncomfortable. Its only going to get worse!!!

I know peanut is a little boy. I have quite a few outfits from age 3 months on. Mums and myself can't resist buying. I would also recommend going to Boots and buying a pack of Huggies nappies to get a free changing bag. I am getting a matching bag with my pram so am going to keep the Huggies one in the boot of the car with emergency bits in. The deal is on now.

I hope you are all keeping well and don't mind me coming back into the thread so late. Look forward to chatting more. xxx

tokentotty · 30/04/2007 10:29

Yay ! Welcome back Endlesslove!! Am so pleased you feel comfortable enough to come back and join us again although am sorry to hear you've had some more worries. Am sure they'll soon lift if you really do take time out to rest

I walked into the office today to be greeted with "Oh my God you're enormous" from one of my delightful colleagues on his return from a week's holiday. Always guaranteed to put a smile on anyone's face isn't it ?
So, all else ok ??

OP posts:
endlesslove · 30/04/2007 10:54

Thanks Tokentotty. I am fine, just my main concern was if peanut was coming early. It was the most frightening thing waking up on Thursday to blood. Never mind, its a minor thing so not going to stress.

Are you getting uncomfortable moving? Like in bed it just feels like overstretching every time I move!

I am debating on the furniture at the moment - what is your opinion - white with white knobs or beech with silver handles? Anyone else wondering what furniture to get?

xx

tokentotty · 30/04/2007 10:58

I can't imagine what an awful feeling it must have been waking up to that sight love. Do take it easy now as we do not want any repeats ok !!
As for furniture....don't make me laugh !!! I still have a 'nursery' that's in use as our shed/garage and will be for some time yet. Not even going to think about anything to put in it until it actually exists as the room its destined to be!

OP posts:
GillL · 30/04/2007 11:21

Hi endlesslove and welcome back. I'm due the day after you and having a boy. Sorry to hear you've had problems. I'm also starting to feel quite uncomfortable. I'm getting quite bad backache just sitting on the armchair at home these days and I often have to use 3 cushions so I don't slouch too much.

What colour is your nursery going to be?

itchyncsratchy · 30/04/2007 11:38

Hi everyone!
Gill- re: backache, my new favourite subject! dr recommended

  1. sitting in straight back chair with small cushion support for lower back and feet raised on footstool
  2. lying on back with 2 cushions under legs, to make back flat as poss
  3. lying on side with cushion under top leg, keeping spine as straight as poss

Avoid standing as much as poss, lifting and twisting, etc..
I've been trying to lie down as often as poss, instead of sitting, and I'm getting some relief from back pain

Hersetta · 30/04/2007 11:39

hello all,

haven't been on for a few days - had a day off work skiving on Friday and then DH and I went to Newcastle for the weekend (flew back in this morning and straight into the office so that 4.30am start will catch up with me later!).

Had a great time but did miss drinking a bit as we found some great cheap bars. Also noticed that bump and me get really tired after a bit of walking and couldn't do too much at a time. It made me realise TT that I could do your upcoming holiday to Vegas, even walking around the casino would knacker me out, yet alone walking in the heat on the strip. Very glad that my Maldives holiday envolves me doing nothing but laying on a sun lounger apart from the occasional snorkelling expedition.

having been buying a few bits and bobs on ebay but still no nearer on the pram from. Think we will deffo go for a cotbed though.

GillL · 30/04/2007 12:11

Thanks itchy, I'll try that.

I've been struggling to walk very far too Hersetta. It's mainly discomfort in my pelvis that slows me down. I used to walk into town quite regularly and it took about 30 minutes. I have to drive now.

funbun · 30/04/2007 12:16

Gosh my back pain has been bad from time to time. Certainly agree about sitting up with straight backed chair and a cushion behind, almost like you're at a job interview. On side with pillow under top knee is the lovliest position, I really like the stretch in your hip joint.

Also was out in town on Sat afternoon and got the strongest cramps on one side of bump and then on other side, lasted about a minute but actually had to stop walking and rub bump and breathe, anyone any ideas what is might be? Was very worried at the time but it passed to I carried on shopping!

endlesslove · 30/04/2007 12:38

Hi GillL.

With the nursery i am probably going to have three walls cream and one wall baby blue colour and have the theme Millie and Boris from Mamas and Papas. That range is cream so it will be mainly cream with a hint of blue. I just don't know what furniture to buy!

I have been suffering with bad back - i agree with pillow under leg in bed. I was thinking of getting one of those really long pillows to wrap around me in bed! I find that because DH is heavier than me, the bed dips down so I am sleeping on the wonk which is so uncomfy!

Oh so we are due so close together - how lovely. Do you know what you are going to do yet about baby at night. I have already got the crib for our bedroom. Being that it will be August I don't know whether to get a low tog sleeping bag or just blankets and sheets. Hmmmm, have to have a think.

endlesslove · 30/04/2007 12:40

Funbun - was it braxton hicks? I haven't felt this yet (as far as I am aware being this is my first pregnancy so not sure) so am unable to help really. But from reading other posts it sounds like it could be.

GillL · 30/04/2007 12:55

Hi endlesslove. That sounds lovely. With a cream and blue colour scheme I think the beech and silver furniture would go best.

I was looking at those long pillows in Mothercare yesterday. I might get one later on. At the moment my back isn't too bad in bed.

We'll be using the moses basket at first but then a cot later on. We'll keep him in with us for at least 6 months and then decide whether he should move in with his sister. I'm not sure about clothing and bedding in August. Thinking about how hot and humid it's been in August for the last few years I think probably a vest would be enough. I'm assuming the heat would affect a newborn the same as us but they are not able to control their body heat as effectively. I was thinking of getting some advice on here late July or early August from some mum's who have just had their babies. I know I am going to worry constantly about whether he's too hot or too cold.
