Interesting stuff about the nappies. Am going to an NCT sale tomorrow and going to look into the cotton nappies. Have to get to tthis sale at 8.30am coz its such a bun fight! Have offered to help so get 1st dibs on all the goods!

Glad everyone has had such successful scans today, I just cried with joy at my first one and the nurses got worried about me. All very embarrasing.

stretchmarks · 20/04/2007 15:37

HI Everyone,

I have a lot to catch up on here. Glad to hear about so many home births that's great.

All this pram talk has had me off looking round the web at prams but we don't need one the travel system from last time is like new as it was only used for about 6 months before DS went into the Maclaren.

Lovelybird sorry to hear you are feeling uncomfortable hopefully it will ease up a bit soon. I had to go to Dr's this week just to get checked as been having dizzy spells recently just think I've been overdoing it a bit though.

Hope everyone who is off on holiday has a great time. I have 5 weeks till we've got a week away and then about another 5 weeks until I am finishing work I think

Been to visit friend this morning and her 2 week old so georgeous couldn't stop sniffig her you can't beat that baby smell.

pinkranger · 20/04/2007 15:38

hi strech - good to see you! x

tokentotty · 20/04/2007 15:40

Me 'n' Peanut hit Vegas on Sat 12th May !! Got a couple of things booked yesterday but planning on taking it easy apart from that. Think the Maldives would be far more suitable....

Thanks for tea TT. My own fault really still think I'm 4 years younger and as fit as I was when I had DS1.

Would have a nice relaxing bath if DH had finished the plumbing but after several minutes of excessive swearing he has just told me that he has drilled the tap holes in the wrong place on the bath. He's just gone out again to try and find another soln.

Hersetta · 20/04/2007 16:30

Ooh TT - you go one day after me !

As I now have to face the thought of the birth I am very tempted to hire a doula - been in touch with one who only lives 2 miles from me who sounds very nice. I really think it would left with all those worries when you are pregnant for the first time like when to go to hospital, what we should expect and getting accross what I do and do not want during labour and birth. I know it would probably be helpful for dh as well as seeing me in pain all the time won't be easy for him and I know he will panic at the first contraction and try and get me to go to hospital stright away which I don't want to do so need someone to reassure him that it's ok to be at home.

What does eveyone think?

stretchmarks · 20/04/2007 16:48

From what I have heard/read about doula's they seem fantastic and a great support.

Do you know anyone who has used one near you that they could personally recommend ?

Hersetta · 20/04/2007 16:52

No - just read the testimonials on her web site. But before we have to commit to hiring her she'll come over for a free chat to see if we all get on and to chat though what sort of support we want.

Sounds good to me - just need to convince dh that it is a good thing.

jem1969 · 20/04/2007 17:47

Nothing much to say today except have a good holiday to those who are off and well done on the scans everyone.
Hersetta- did you go to fetal medical centre again? At our 20 week scan there the other day we also had a flash of the 4d scan- the placenta was over the baby's hair and it looked like a hippy wig with a centre parting! I was keen to see the ears as DH's are slightly large (understatement!) but unfortunately the 'wig' was covering it!
Going to spend the weekend wafting round pram shops probably in a bit of a daze. Looked at the i-candy cherry the other day as alternative to bugaboo but woman in shop said bugaboo much better wheels- haven't a clue what to get. Then some guy in the shop who was pushing a bugaboo started raving on about it. Now my neighbour has just replaced her M&P one with a bugaboo as well. I seem to live in some sort of parallel universe (and had never even heard of them till about 8 weeks ago!)

Anyway- good weekends all...

GillL · 20/04/2007 21:11

Hi pinkranger. Here are the bf links that I was telling you about. You can search the sites to see if there are any groups in your area. Hope you find them useful.

La Leche

The Baby Cafe

lizziemun · 21/04/2007 07:58

Nicked DH laptop again.

Every ok with my scan yesterday, baby growing and no problems i was a bit worried. The only probelm is that they were running an hour late i had to go to the loo as i coulcn't wait any longer.

Don't know what sex as they don't tell you where i live.

I hope everyone has a good weekend and those of you who are off on holiday have a good time.

lovelybird · 21/04/2007 20:30

just having a quick 5 mins on MN before going off to soak my aching ribs in the bath. am seriously worried about how big I am already, seeing mw on 2nd msy so hoping she tells me i'm normal. DH and the in-laws have been decorating all day for us. Oh the joys of having good excuses not to do hard graft! Just had DS to look after and a pile of ironing! Have a good weekend all.

MrsBadger · 22/04/2007 18:15

Just arrived back from a weekend at DH's cousins' clearing out their attic - now richer by three carrierbags of non-gender specific newborn clothes, plus cot and pram sheets, blankets, muslins, hooded towels, grobags and a cot.
All lovely cotton from JL, Gap or Petit Bateau, much nicer than anything I'd probably ever buy.

I do love this hand-it-on philosophy...

bananabump · 23/04/2007 07:14

Good haul, badger! We got given our cot, highchair and about 100 items of baby girls clothes (all immaculate next & gap, what a shame) for our little boy, not that we knew he was a he at the time!

Well, baby has finally started doing whopping great visible kicks that finally my partner can feel, although I think it weirded him out a bit because he stayed to feel just one kick then escaped out the back for a fag. What does THAT mean?

conkertree · 23/04/2007 09:01

morning everyone - hope everyone had good weekends. spent yesterday in the rain watching dh run the fort william marathon - very proud of him. think the conditions were so much better than the london one from what we heard on the radio.

did make me feel quite big and lazy though, but does make me want to get back to running as soon after the birth as possible.

holiday in a week and a half - cant wait. two long drives down through england then down through france. given how tired i am today from driving down from fort william, i think its going to be a tiring start to the holiday, but once we get there, hopefully we can kick off our shoes and relax.

Hersetta · 23/04/2007 09:05

Hi Jem,

no I had mt scan on the NHS - at the Rosie Maternity hospital in Cambridge. They really are great there, from the nurses to the sonographers and even the student doctors who have had a poke at my tummy have all been lovely.

Spent Staurday shopping with a friend who encouraged me to be frilly pretty dresses and beautiful cardigans despite my saying I would be buying no such things. Didn't go to mad though - did all my shopping at Primark, Asda and tesco so didn't spend a fortune.

BabyMadwithBump · 23/04/2007 09:26

Hi how is every one today?
Has anybody had/having leaking boobs? Didn't get this with 2 DSs but first for everything, but still feel at 25+3 it's abit early! Last night LO kept sticking out his/her foot it was amazing as you could just make out it was a foot!
Babymadx

pinkranger · 23/04/2007 09:28

Hi everyone,
Hope you all had a good weekend!
No leaking boobs here im afraid , they dont even hurt , but they didnt with ds until after i had him , then i know what painful boobs were!!
Must have been fantastic to see the foot , i felt the baby on the outside for the first time today, then when DH tried he didnt move at all!!

itchyncsratchy · 23/04/2007 09:41

good morning all!
I'm feeling fine apart from shocking lower back pain, anyone else have this? Really sharp pain aggravated by sitting, walking, standing anything really! Only total relief is when I'm swimming, so I've been trying to massage and do some exercises from the pregnancy bible, resorted to tiny bit of deep heat last night as hurting so much couldn't sleep.
Bit worried, as planning trip back to Uk next week but don't fancy 8hrs overnight flight. I'm going to catch up with you all as so far I haven't bought a single thing for babe.
Still not sure about carrycots, do you get more than few months use out of them?

MrsBadger · 23/04/2007 09:54

itchy, if the choice is carrycot or moses basket, at least the carrycot goes on the pram chassis so you can take them out in it...

pinkranger · 23/04/2007 09:56

Agree with Mrs badger, i had a moses basket for Ds that was a gift and he was ony in it for 6 weeks then into a cot, the only reason im using it this time round is because its there but would never spend money on one!

itchyncsratchy · 23/04/2007 10:11

I love the idea of the carrycot but they all seem so small. I'm wondering if we can cope with just a carseat/puschair that lies flat and sling carrier.

GillL · 23/04/2007 10:25

Hi all. Hope everyone had a nice weekend. To answer questions first - no leaky boobs here - dd was in her moses basket for about 4 months but she was quite small, only 6lb 9oz at birth.

I had a mixed weekend. Dd was being a real pain and ended up making me cry. I think I just couldn't cope because I was so tired. I'd lost out of 5 hours of sleep the previous 3 nights (2 of them being her fault). In the end I had to drop her off at my mum's and go out for a couple of hours. I was still quite tearful in the evening. It's the only time I've actually been emotional so far though. Yesterday was quite relaxing. Went to fil's house where sil, neice and nephew were staying. Dd and my nephew are the same age so played together and ran around the garden.

Good news though - dd's bedroom is nearly finished after 2 years of nagging. Painting is all done so we just have to wait for the carpet to be fitted on Friday. Then it's just shopping for curtains and putting her furniture up (which has been stored at fil's for the last 2 years). We'll finally have our bedroom back to ourselves, albeit only for a few months.

Annie75 · 23/04/2007 13:02

Hi all - glad to hear everyone well

Itchynscratchy, am also suffering from lower back ache - apparently the curve in the lower back becomes more pronounced as we push out our tummies to compensate for the additional weight. I went to antenatal yoga for the first time last week and discovered the relief from an exercise/birthing ball! God, they are brilliant. Get one at least 65 - pref 75cm in diameter (from a sports shop is waay cheaper than buying a birthing ball and they are the same), then sit on it and swivel your hips gently round. Made a big difference to my back, am trying to do it regularly now. More on this yoga site
