Good Luck Lizzie xx

conkertree · 20/04/2007 10:25

thats great pinkranger - sounds like a really good scan. my sonographer said that most boys are lazy on the scans, so great that they are not all like that.

itchyncsratchy I love the thrill of the bid myself but we brought my pramette and 2-in-1 though bid which was both more of a bargin then the buy-it-now price, yes all find and well with buying from ebay, a) read all that they have writhen so no misunderstandings b)I like to make sure they have "PayPal Buyer Protection" if paying by paypal. C) if you have any questions don't be worried to ask them what ever it is!

bananabump I've asked for a home birth due to have nightmares on having LO on kitchen floor (unplanned) so now MW has put it down, I want a HB and all I have to do is ask my Doctor for a proscription for pethdine and make sure the placenta had moved at my 35 week scan and that's that HB then booked!

pinkranger so glad your scan went well, I wish I knew my babies sex but DH really doesn't want to know BUT at the "babyshow" there will be 4D scanners so maybe just maybe I might get my own way!

I'm fine thanks, abit Ps o but thats another story, I'll share after sorting the god dam thing out, life hay think your getting somewhere then some one goes the throws something in my works!!!

Hersetta · 20/04/2007 10:48

Congrats pink - really glad your scan was great. I know how you feel - I haven't stopped grinning since mine yesterday.

GillL · 20/04/2007 10:52

Home birth news - The midwife said that because I am also under consultant care for my underactive thyroid then I will have to ask the consultant if she will agree to a home birth. She said that the same consultant recently agreed to it for someone with the same condition. They don't decide for certain until at least 36 weeks when they have a better idea of how big the baby will be. However, the midwife did say off the record that I could just wait until I knew the baby is well on the way and phone the hospital saying that it was coming. That way they would have to send a midwife round anyway. I'm sure it won't come to that though. Dd was only 6lb 9oz.

I also had a Surestart midwife come round to me yesterday afternoon who was so pleased that I want a home birth. She said that she will arrange for a doula to come round and help me after the birth (free service in our area) a few hours a week. She will also come and visit me any time I want after the birth so she can help me establish breastfeeding. She really wants to help me succeed. I'm so glad she came round. It's the sort of help I was looking for this time round.

Congrats on the scans pinkranger and Hersetta. It must have been so exciting to see the 4D image! Sorry to hear you've been unwell. It's only in the last few weeks that I've actually started to feel more human again.

pinkranger · 20/04/2007 10:54

thanks ladies~!!

im also going for a HB, my midwife really supports them at pre - booked me for one at my booking in visit .....

alsop have a lady coming round next week to do a demo on nappies as we are cloth nappies this time round!

pinkranger · 20/04/2007 10:55

Gill thats really good news ,esp on the doula, i could do with that!! would also like some help with the breast feeding as i didnt mange last time but not sure how much support i will get

GillL · 20/04/2007 11:01

I'll dig out some links later pink. I put a post up a while ago on the pg section and there are some groups that meet up just for helping with bfing. You should check with your midwife if there is a bf counsellor in your area. If so she can come round and show you what to do. The only problem with the groups I guess is that they would only be run once a week and by then it may be too late. I should also have taken advantage of the NCT helpline as well, although nothing replaces someone sitting in your living room who can see whether you're doing it right or not. I'm certain last time I was unsuccessful purely because I didn't have the right technique.

Annie75 · 20/04/2007 11:27

Hiya Gill - glad it went well yesterday. What's a Surestart midwife? Are they outside of the NHS?

I'd take the advice that you need your consultant's agreement to have a home birth with a pinch of salt - you don't need their permission as to where you labour (as I understand), but they may advise you otherwise and should have concrete medical grounds for suggesting otherwise. I'm hoping to stress that point myself should my consultant tell me they won't support me with a home birth (will let you know more on Monday). It's not that I'd fly in the face of sound medical advice, but from doing lots of reading around, I've heard enough stories about women being 'told' what they can and can't do, without enough real justification. I so want a home birth as I know I'd feel way more comfortable and relaxed there.

Good luck with your scan, Lizzie!

GillL · 20/04/2007 11:54

Hi Annie. Surestart is a government initiative to get children under 5 off to a good start. They work in conjunction with the NHS but I don't think they are NHS staff. I also have a Surestart health visitor who is not attached in any way to my GP surgery. I think it's mainly for deprived areas (we live near a lot of council houses and flats) and we just happen to fall inside the catchment area. We're very lucky to have the extra support.

I agree that I shouldn't let anyone tell me whether I can or can't have a home birth unless, as you say, there is a sound medical reason like the baby being breach. I had a very quick birth last time and I would be very stressed if I had to wait for dh to come home from work and then take dd somewhere to be looked after before even thinking about getting to the hospital. I'm sure it would make the pain much worse. If the baby is normal size and there are no complications later on I would just go ahead with it anyway.

Good for you with the cloth nappies pinkranger. It's something I would consider but I struggle enough to get our clothes washed. I constantly have 2 full washing baskets and just when I can start to see the bottom, they're full up again.

pinkranger · 20/04/2007 12:12

i know what you mean about the washing but mine always seems to be going round! If you use cloth nappies in the first year you can save up to £1000 - thats one reason why we are doing it!

Washersaurus · 20/04/2007 12:28

Haven't got much to contribute..but on the washing front; if I were you I'd just give up on finding the bottom of your washing basket. I have 2 baskets and they are never empty - the quicker I wash, the faster the boys (DS and DH) get through their clothes!

I find washing my nappies at night (every other day) is the best bet as it is a fairly long wash cycle and does tend to cause a backlog if I don't. I have a large capacity washing machine now so I can wash more in one go - I just hope there is room for the next LO's nappies in there too

Washersaurus · 20/04/2007 12:33

Hence my nickname btw...very imaginative I know

GillL · 20/04/2007 12:41

I have difficulty finding the time to put washing on. Putting it in the machine is the easy part but it's hanging it all up to dry that takes the time. I work full time and I leave the house at 8am and get home just after 6pm. Then it's time to make the dinner, eat, get dd ready for bed, spend up to an hour putting her to bed etc. By the time I've finished all that I'm knackered and just want to go to bed myself. I would love to save £1000 but I just don't have the time or energy to dedicate to all that washing. I tend to leave a lot of the washing to the weekend but I can't imagine what dirty nappies would be like after a week!

tokentotty · 20/04/2007 13:32

Hmmmm....washing... For some reason this is not my strong suit at the moment. Am back in Spain tomorrow and don't think I have any clean underwear. Somehow, I'm going to have to clone myself, send myself home from work immediately and get on with everything. Suggestions anyone ?
Just been to an introduction on Hypno-birthing and it does seem interesting. Think before signing up I'll wait for my friend on the 'Due May' thread whose done the course to deliver here baby and let me know her thoughts. These will obviously be passed on to all here interested !
As for the nappies debate, DH have discussed giving cloth ones a go too. Probably not during the first couple of weeks as I think being first-timers there's the chance of just pushing ourselves that bit too much unnecessarily and feeling like we're not succeeeding at things when if we wait a bit, get used to the initial stuff and then add stuff on as and when we feel more ready. Not sure if that makes sense, but I know what I mean !

OP posts:
GillL · 20/04/2007 14:03

Definitely makes sense TT.

Good excuse to buy some new underwear I say.

kiteflying · 20/04/2007 14:18

Hi everyone. I am off to Italy tomorrow and just dropped in to wish you all well for the next couple of weeks.

I decided against having another scan - I added up how many scans I have had in the first half of my pregnancy and decided against adding any more in case all the scare stories about early pregnancy brain damage are eventually proven by research.

My little bean is still not moving very much and I am hoping that the Italian sunshine will make him or her more joyous and feel like dancing.

Good luck with the pram buying. Maybe we should start another stats thread with what everyone has decided on! Mine is a bugaboo, but only because I spent a third of the retail price on it! I also have a traditional Inglesina on a high chassis for when the bean is very small.
There are some great threads on mumsnet from total pramaholics giving the rundown on lots of prams if anyone is still undecided.

All the best for your trip to Spain TT.

Hope Lizziemun's scan went well too.

pinkranger · 20/04/2007 14:22

lovelybird · 20/04/2007 14:22

afternoon all, can't believe how many posts there are here, I can't keep up. Well I went back to work on Monday after 3 weeks off with flu (was signed off by Dr). Baby not bothered by Flu though and he is such a wriggly thing, always wriggling. i lay in the bath last night and was laughing as my whole tummy was moving so much as he was kicking. I am huge though, so much bigger than last time, can't believe I've got 16 weeks to go. have just measured my tummy and its 114cm!!!!! Eek!! I was a size 14 before, too scared to weigh myself now.
Am very uncomfortable, especially my ribs which are killing me. My bra size has gone up by 4 inches already, I'm thinking about when to finish work, mid-end June I think when I'll be 33 weeks ish, but i'm going to have to see how the next few weeks go as i'm so uncomfortable already.
Glad everyone is OK and lovely to hear all your bump news.

GillL · 20/04/2007 14:35

Hi lovelybird. Sorry to hear you're feeling so uncomfortable already. I've just started to feel my skin stretch in the last few days and sometimes I am finding it myself out of breath after the slightest of exertions. I was sitting on the floor with dd last night reading her a story. When she got up I touched the side of my tummy and said 'ow' so she rubbed my tummy and kissed it better. It was soooo sweet.

Hersetta · 20/04/2007 15:12

Kite and TT - have a great time away. Can't wait till my holiday - 3 weeks today untill we go to the Maldives.

When is it you go to vegas TT?
