I was looking at one link which was discussing technical medical papers written on early weaning...who are these women that can decipher jargon and technical speak, and what's more...why do they want to? Have they nothing better to do, or are their BF babies so content that they sleep all day or else suckle away happily whilst their supermums surf the WHO technical paper archive????

There was one thread the other day about the new SMA logo looking like a woman BF....WTF....it looks like a mum cradling a baby to me. And here it is if anyone is interested.....

Gotta try and not get sucked in by these threads....or I'm gonna end up saying something I might regret on one of them...

Daisybump · 17/04/2007 19:34

Ow Derlor....mine has done that a few times, and according to DH it makes me get a very odd expression on my face. Been wearing my whole body grip the last day or two, so that's sorted her!!!!

derlor · 17/04/2007 19:37

yikes daisy, that sounds scary is that like a corsett?

OP posts:
Daisybump · 17/04/2007 19:48

No, just a giant bump sized bit of tubigrip given to me by the ante-natal physio....very attractive and, I think you'll find, this season's must have accessory, especially of heat rash is on your list of summer essentials

derlor · 17/04/2007 19:50

oh the glamour of the pg woman!!!
did you ask for some tubigrip in leopard print??!!!

Okay, I am all calm now!
When I'm not all ruffled up (as I am today - due to dealing with estate agents - which is a long story) I would normally laugh at these BF threads cos they can be so petty and silly.
I am one of those geeks that understands clinical papers and I (due to my job) regularly read and discuss them with my customers (not relating to BF!), and thats one of the reasons I find it all so silly -as no clinical paper is worth reading (IMO)unless there is some kind of bias removal to it (randomised, placebo controlled, double blind blah blah blah) and as far as I am aware that would be very difficult with BF studies. (however, thats not to say that I don't agree that BF is best! - don't want the BF police on my back!)
Anyway - whatever - I don't think I will look at them again - otherwise I'll end up posting swear words on them!

Daisybump · 17/04/2007 20:07

the leopard print would be Foxy's domain I believe.....

been lurking around the april thread for news of babies being born and they've all been comparing the size of their bumps....4522 seems about average. Out of curiosity I measyed mine and it s 46" FFS.....what size am I gonna be in another 8 weeks....and I thought my bump was quite neat....yikes.

Not ignoring you DontKnow....What do you do?....I've tried reading stuff like that....I have coeliac disease and have tried to look at papers written about coeliac and pg women, but pretty soon into the articles my eyes automatically glaze over (too many big words too close together ) and I drift off into a much more pleasant place

Daisybump · 17/04/2007 20:08

That should read 45" seems the average....duh

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 17/04/2007 20:08

oh no, just looked at my last message and I sound just like one of 'THEM' don't I? nuf said. I'll move on, and as they say oop here in t'north 'nowt as queer as folk'

Daisybump · 17/04/2007 20:14

Where oop north are you? if you don't mind me asking, but if you dont want to say Iwont be offended...some people are, understandably, a bit funny giving out that sort of info online....

Daisybump · 17/04/2007 20:17

Just had an e-mail confirming that my goodies (including the lovely nappy holder, as used by the stars) have been shipped and should be with me in 1-3 days....yipee

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 17/04/2007 20:17

Daisy - I sell drugs to Doctors! legally of course!!

Having coeliac disease and being pg must be a challenge? Do you have to be really careful about what you eat?

When you measure your bump - where do you measure from and to? I'll give a go and see what mines like?

annobal · 17/04/2007 20:18

Bugger - just typed a post and lost it all when I hit the back button. Probably just as well as it was really long

Anyway - after a really long day and tradesmen in and out all day we now have water again and a steralised kitchen. It turns out we had RATS - WTF

TB - I'm also from Adelaide - I don't think I've ever met anyone else from Adelaide as it's usually a place that people have heard of but go to Sydney, Melbourne or Perth. How long have you been back in UK for?

Derlor - really great to know that you are a HV - I had a great one who always gave really reassuring advice.

Lucky I lost the other post as I think I was rambling a bit

doggus · 17/04/2007 20:19

Hi all, thank you for reassurance re weaning (bumper, you didn't freak me out, I'm already freaked out!). I am going to buy the Annabel Karmel book but you all seem so calm about it, I will be too. I like the idea that mum knows best, and shall repeat that to myself daily.

Annobal - sorry about the nightmare, we have mice which we can't get rid of and it is a horrible feeling.

Seangirl - my lo is very unpredictable too, seems to have been kipping all day, then will do a drum tattoo and then kip again. Some days h/she is much busier than others. The midwife asked me how active lo was today and I was stumped - I said 'she kicked this morning, so she's still there'. Lo has moved head down already and the midwife says she is likely to stay there (wtf - I am only 30 weeks!).

And to puffy foxy, today I am enjoying swollen ankles (does a little twirl to show them off).

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 17/04/2007 20:20

Daisy - I'm from Cheshire

annobal · 17/04/2007 20:20

BTW - great to know that I can send my secrect santa pressie now.

TALLULAHBELLE · 17/04/2007 20:21

Is that from front to back IYKWIM ? - yr bump, Daisy, I should say. Mine only 38, got 8 weeks to go too. Think measuring with bog roll was less worrying if slightly less scientific .

derlor · 17/04/2007 20:23

oh annobal, i lived in OZ for a while and LOVED Adelaide. we DID visit there and it was beautiful.
Lived in Sydney though (slinks off.....)

OP posts:
annobal · 17/04/2007 20:24

Oh - another vote for Annabel Karmel - I still use her recipes and DSs love them.

DS2 trapped his fingers in the car door tonight, poor little mite. They are all swollen and look really sore. He can wriggle them tho.

annobal · 17/04/2007 20:25

Ah thanks Derlor - it is beautiful and I will forgive you as you are a lovely HV.

Daisybump · 17/04/2007 20:27

DontKnow...I measured around the widest part of my bump....if I cheat it only measure 40"

The coeliac disease isn't too bad to manage, but I did administer larger doses of folic acid in the early days.....didn't do that with the two MCs I had before this pg so who knows if there's a link......have been getting cravings for hot buttered toast, but luckily JS do some lovely GF english muffins which are almost like the real thing. I've been eating a fair bit of oats, for the fibre, and normally if I overdo oats I have a reaction, but not whilst I've been pg...don't know what that's about. And finally (bet you're sorry you asked now ), baby seems to be growing OK, so doesn't look like any of my minor indiscretions with oats (and crunchy-nut cornflakes..erm) have caused any problems....

Daisybump · 17/04/2007 20:29

DontKnow...I'm originally from near Edinburgh and up there we would consider you to be a limey southerner....apologies to anyone if that notion offends

TALLULAHBELLE · 17/04/2007 20:30

Hey Annobal - been back from sunny Adelaide for 3 years now. Will be visiting the Aussie family once bubs is here - not fancying the flight much but needs must. BTW do you know Quorn? I also lived there for a year. Met DH whilst escaping from the bush for the weekend - we ended up in Joplins oh the shame!

annobal · 17/04/2007 20:31

Poor you Daisy! If it is any consolation, a coeliac diet is very close to the one recommended by Gowri Motha in Gentle Birth Method. And a friend of mine is coeliac and was straight back in her size 8 shorts the day after giving birth
