hello

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Doggus, love it. Where do you guys find these websites? I saw some gorgeous little babygros in a shop the other day - one Clash one, and a Guns 'n' Roses one, too. And one that said 'My mummy's a rock star'. I might see if I can find a clip-on baby nose stud, just to freak the in laws out when they come down to see their precious grandchild...

And actually, chocolate oranges were DH's idea (he went out on Easter Sunday to buy easter eggs and they'd run out, so he figured they were the next best thing...)But you're right, I am a bit choco-orange obsessive. Mint, too, but only with dark chocolate. And nuts. So basically, that'll be chocolate with stuff in it

marylou23 · 16/04/2007 19:49

Daisy, I'm a newbie, but I'll let you know if we learn anything interesting. So far it's basically been 'birth is good. Mammals do it, you can too.' Plus lots of putting our 'fears surrounding birth' up on a flip chart and sharing horror stories with each other to the consternation of our teacher.

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 16/04/2007 19:50

Lovin that little baby grow Doggus! They've got cool stuff on that website.
How do you do that thing where you add a link on and it just shows up a a blue word? (sorry for being a bit IT slow?!)

doggus · 16/04/2007 19:56

Hi DKMAFME - when you post a message, look to the right hand side of the screen, and there is a note telling you how to do it. It will take you ages at first, then gets better!

Marylou - it was a link from popbitch.com, the scurrilous gossip mongers. And if you find a nose stud, tell me, it would freak the mil, which is a very very good thing.

Daisybump - but what sort of age did you start him? Can you start off with mild curry as soon as they are weaned? My mum tells me a sweet story of when I first had a sweet dessert, apparently my eyes went very big and I tried to grab the spoon. I blame her for my sugar obsession....

hollyandalice · 16/04/2007 19:59

Dp loves those babygros doggus!! He wants to get the Mutha Sucka one! As for eating I don't honestly know how we raised an unfussy child! I was a complete food mentalist for the first year and dd was only fed organic with no colours, flavours etc. Then I relaxed and now she eats what I eat (within reason)! I think weaning at 4 rather than 6 months helped as apparently the later you wean the less flavours your child will accept (I don't admit that often on MN as I am afraid of being shot!). One of the first and favourite foods of hers was korma parsnips! I cooked and blitzed parsnips and mixed them with curry powder and coconut milk! I liked her to have a varied diet!

I'm haven't even thought about ante natal classes daisy. I didn't learn anything useful first time round, so doubt I'd learn anything second time! I honestly think your body tells you what to do (hopefully)!

hollyandalice · 16/04/2007 20:01

Oh and I used to make dd chick pea and lentil dahl when she was about 6 months old! Yummy!

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 16/04/2007 20:14

Do you think DH would be upset if I bought this

PMSL at it - might have to as a surprise for him!

Think I might have cracked the 'link' thing - there'll be no stopping me now!

Seansgirl · 16/04/2007 20:18

(whisper) I'm with Holly on the weaning age too! I found that DD was keen to try new flavors at an early age, she is less keen as she gets older. She was regularly eating smoked mackerel pate, salami, chicken korma (my own), pasta with pesto etc she'll eat some chinese now (particularly loves ribs in sauce) and also likes chilli con carne! Though give her a roast and she'll eat all the veg and pick at the meat

Am onto the 'V' catalogue Holly tonight, Kanagroo trainers will be my first item. Can you do codes on the interiors book too?

Seansgirl · 16/04/2007 20:20

Dontknow - yes I think he might

hollyandalice · 16/04/2007 20:25

Some of the codes work on the home stuff seansgirl, I got a great one the other day for 40% off and that works with home. Some of them are only for clothing though! Happy choosing!!

The weaning age thing seems to be one of "those" subjects on MN!!! If anyone can solely bf for 6 months they are a better person than me!

riabutterflew · 16/04/2007 20:27

I think I weaned DS1 at 4 months, I'm sure that's what you did then. I did have a cow & gate wallchart above the cooker that I consulted religiously. Everything had changed for DS2 (7 year gap) and it all seems different again (3 years on). (No peanuts and no alcohol - nonsense. For me that is, not during weaning!)
No mention of antenatal classes here. I went both times before and probably would have gone again but they don't seem to have them in the village and I can't be bothered to trek to town. Will play it by ear - can never remember the instructions when I get to needing them anyway!

Re irritating the MIL (mines a Geordie and prefers the ex-wife). I am SO HOPING DS1 wants to be a goth... (sadly he is more likely to be a vicar!)

bumperlicious · 16/04/2007 20:28

H&A, don't even whisper that little fact anywhere near the weaning threads

Loving the babygrows!

Anyone else worried about the effect of all this chocolate and cake etc. after having the baby? I wish I had more resistance! Can't stop eating chocolate!

hollyandalice · 16/04/2007 20:42

Dasiy I missed your post earlier about the vertbaudet shorts! Are they denim? I think I may have ordered the same ones!! You can only put one code in and the £10 ones are the best for clothes, though there aren't that many of them around. The delivery is shocking. On my online statement it has been saying my order is with the courier for delivery since thurs and it still hasn't turned up yet! There is a toybox I ordered on the 4th that hasn't come yet! It's pretty poor, but for the discounted prices I can wait!!

bumper! I never go on the weaning threads, they are way scary!

derlor · 16/04/2007 20:57

oh my God, i've not been here for a week!!!!!!!!! i have SO much to catch up on - probably about 2 hours worth of reading i think!!!
Sorry for disappearing all of a sudden but i've just felt really shite and haven't been sleeping etc... didn't want to bore you all so just wallowed in my own self pity instead!! Feeling better now so back to join in - i've got my secret baby shower info and am trying to come up with something ingenious to buy my lucky one.. got a couple of ideas so will work on that.
anyway off to catch up back in a while..........

Yes they are HandA....after the mini-heatwave this weekend I was desperate for something short.....I floated around the garden in a khaki wraparound pouffy skirt with the buttons in the first holes IYSWIM, and DH likened me to a hessian sack ...I must admit though it was not a good look, so desperately need something cool I can wear in public......

I weaned DS at about 14 weeks...the recommendation back then was 16 weeks anyway but he was such a little bruiser and was on the full milk quote and still not getting fully satisfied. He was doing all the showing an interest, but he got baby rice for ages before I started to introduce home made purees....soon got fed up wiht that game and it was any old jar of food I could fine...well not quite, I did buy Hipp and Boots organic to try and ease my conscience a little. Not sure about the recommendation now to delay weaning until six months ...we'll see how it goes. He's definately getting fussier as he gets older and we keep having to remind him "you used to eat that when you were a baby" mind you, fed him haggis when he was about 20 months old...not a good idea at all

Have also done my shopping for the secret shower...and bought some yummy scrummt things for my LO, and also one of these . With DS I used a cheapo gents toiletries bag fom Boots costing £3.99, but thought I'd go a little bit more stylish this time around

hollyandalice · 16/04/2007 21:04

Hey derlor! I was wondering about you earlier! Sorry you've not been feeling well, glad you are better now.

I'm going to be really sad and go to bed now! That curry has wiped me out !!

Goodnight and sleep well! x

Daisybump · 16/04/2007 21:05

Hey Derlor...wondered where you'd got to.....don't wallow by yourself in future, we're a caring sharing lot you know. Hope things are a bit brighter now

foxybrown · 16/04/2007 21:06

phew ... just caught up ...

you've all been busy, everyone ok-ish? hot weather makes a difference, doesn't it? am all puffy. nice.

been on a 'happy family' day out. whipsnade zoo. fab. really enjoyed it.

always tricky with dp when he's just got back from a trip away - gets right on my tits (not literally). we spent the first part of the day bickering and sniping (not helped by the fact that the dumb arse got a ticket cos he didn't park the car in the right place this morning!). made it up and are ok now - he's just gone for chips again as can't put a plate of food together now.

mustn't rant about him ... [sorry]

Daisybump · 16/04/2007 21:06

I should haul my sorry ass off to bed too....I've now been up for about 19 hours and am in danger of reaching that really spacey zone where sleep becomes immaterial...

Daisybump · 16/04/2007 21:09

Hi Foxy...what an image that conjures up, LOL....

foxybrown · 16/04/2007 21:09

best reason for not doing ante-natal classes again, everything would have changed, like weaning recommendations etc.

oh, and I really can't be arsed finding childcare.

foxybrown · 16/04/2007 21:10

Daisy - do you mean the puffiness??!

bumperlicious · 16/04/2007 21:14

Foxy, if you can't rant on here where can you rant?! Rant away...

riabutterflew · 16/04/2007 21:18

I'm off to the la redoute site to do some free shopping!
Night all.

foxybrown · 16/04/2007 21:18

aww, thanks, but I always rant about dp. its not healthy!

and he's just got the chips in ...
