Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi Doggus, I was just thinking I wonder who is going to 'pop' first... very exciting! I also love those projector thingys - we have a winnie the pooh one that DS2 loves and would still use if I took it out of hiding.

foxybrown · 14/04/2007 22:01

I know what you mean Doggus! Its all so abstract isn't it? We know s/he's there, can feel it, watch it but they're not here as such. I remember reading a long time ago that pregnancy only prepares you for giving birth - and that is so true. Nothing prepares you for having a baby. And I don't mean that to be negative, because we all muddle through and make it work somehow. Its just a bit ... overwhelming/scary/bizarre! Look out for the "who the f* am I?/where's my identity gone" phase at about 4 months!

Blimey, am feeling a bit overwhelmed!

hollyandalice · 14/04/2007 22:03

Good evening all! Finally finished the living room, have spent most of the day stood on a chair painting. I have paint in my hair, it's a good look!

Sputnik, hope you're ok. I am wafting non dilating vibes to your cervix! Seriously though I hope baby stays put for a while longer.

Dp said to me last night "you've been pregnant for ever!". Yes thank you darling, it does take a long time to cook a baby! How does he think I feel?! Silly man!

Glad you had a lovely time in Bristol foxy. Loving the sound of your new bra !!

foxybrown · 14/04/2007 22:07

Good work Holly - are you going to stop now?!

It can't be nesting time already, surely? I haven't been tempted to turn all the tins in the cupboard so the labels face outwards in an orderly fashion yet.

hollyandalice · 14/04/2007 22:15

No...apparently we're starting the dining room tomorrow! It's not me that's nesting it's dp, he's turned into a real slave driver!

I haven't had the urge to turn all the cans the right way yet, though I do keep walking through the house and seeing things that really annoy me that I want to change! We are going to need to do an Ikea trip soon...aaaarggghhh!! I'm not looking forward to it!

foxybrown · 14/04/2007 22:17

I just lost my Emily, only to find her asleep in my bed. cheeky little thing!

It must be bedtime as I have indigestion. Oh, and baby4 has woken up and is disco-ing in there! How does she know its time for me to go to bed??

Nite nite all.

foxybrown · 14/04/2007 22:18

ohh, shall we have our first meet up in Ikea restaurant?

hollyandalice · 14/04/2007 22:21

IKWYM about feeling overwhelmed foxy! Having a baby is the strangest thing. I can remember holding dd in the birthing pool and my dp had to take her off me because I was shaking so much! It's such a crazy experience, in a good way of course!

hollyandalice · 14/04/2007 22:22

Croydon? I love the veggie hotdogs in the cafe!

foxybrown · 14/04/2007 22:24

yes, Croydon. There's a big Mothercare and Matalan there too - need to get more knickers from Matalan ...

hollyandalice · 14/04/2007 22:27

Oooo, sounds good! I've just asked dp and he said if we go it'll be the weekend after next, hope you're free then. It just seems like there's no time at all until the baby comes and there's so much to do!

bumperlicious · 14/04/2007 22:29

Hi all

Internet been on the blink so not been around much. Hi Foxy, glad you are back.

Marylou, was just looking at those slings from Bigimagination. Do you know if they are any good? Does anyone else have any sling recommendations?

Sputnik, thinking anti gravity thoughts for you! Everything will be fine, and we are here for you, if only just to make sure you are not doing anything you shouldn't be! As tempting as it sounds, I'm sure the reality of not being able to do anything is actually pretty crap. Hope you have some good books, and we'll keep you company too!

foxybrown · 14/04/2007 22:32

actually, i might be! DP has a friend down that weekend so skipping off shopping is a possibility.

i really need to go to bed ... but baby4 will be kicking my tummy and baby 3 will be kicking me in the back!

foxybrown · 14/04/2007 22:34

Hi Bumperlicious! I loved my Babybjorn carrier, the one with back support, but that's because i was pushing a buggy too. Do you know if you want to wear the baby on your front, or if you want one of the hammock-ey type ones? I saw a mum at school who had one in a lovely jade chinese silk fabric.

hollyandalice · 14/04/2007 22:36

Need to go to bed as well, but will have baby 1 aka dp snoring in my ear!! Soooo knackered and keep having bhs..bloody things!

Will let you know about Ikea nearer the time foxy, but is def a possibilty.

Sleep well everyone x

P.S. great cure for hb...mint choc chip ice cream! It's worked every time so far and tastes so yummy!

doggus · 14/04/2007 22:37

Bumper - thank you for asking about slings, I really want to know too, so any recommendations anyone?

Foxy and holly - thank goodness it is not just me on the unreal feelings. I can't get my head around the inevitability of it all, in life you can change your mind on most things (if you got cold feet on the night of your wedding you could always do a runner) but this baby is coming whether I want it or not or if I am ready or not. It's so weird.

God you lot are so brave - IKEA! I can't face it when I am NOT pg. Dh and I have never made it round before a furious ruck breaks out whereupon dh storms off to eat meatballs in the cafe!

hollyandalice · 14/04/2007 22:41

I want one of these slings. I found a pattern on the internet showing you how to make them, but don't know if I can be arsed. Might just make a ring sling instead.

bumperlicious · 14/04/2007 22:45

I'd like one of those hammock type ones. If I was more motivated I'd make one too, but really can't be arsed!

bumperlicious · 14/04/2007 23:00

Anyway, had a sleepless night last night to so off to bed! Talk more about slings and shopping tomorrow. Doggus, will let you know if I hear any good stuff about slings.

marylou23 · 14/04/2007 23:02

I'm just a sucker for the blurb that goes with things. So when a website says that a sling is made to perfectly support the contours of a little baby's back, that's it, I'm hooked. I think it's the words 'little baby's back'. Yup, the hormones have kicked in and I've turned to mush... Trouble is, I imagine that slings are like breast pumps (bear with me on this one) in that everyone I've spoken to has different favourites and I figure I probably won't know which suits me best until I've bought about four of them (anyone tried out a breast pump in a shop? No, I thought not... )

Oh, and Doggus, pleased to have been of service

bumperlicious · 15/04/2007 10:54

Im the same marylou. I n fact DH and I had a small argument yesterday because I said (based on what I had read on various websites and and on MN) that I thought side carrier slings were better for newborns than upright ones, because the put less pressure on the spine and the groin. He got really upset, I think because he had been looking forward to carrying the baby around in a carrier and said why would the shops sell something that wasn't good for babies, and people have been using them for this long what could be wrong with them. I just said I'd been doing research and that's the conclusion that I'd come up with, and he said why did I believe a bunch of people and websites which I didn't know yet wouldn't agree that he might be right. Anyway, it was a very stupid argument, but I feel like if I've done research, asked people's opinions and can make an intelligent informed decision then that's better than his arguments that why would shops sell things that are bad for babies (er junk food, asbestos or DDT anyone?!) Phuh - men, just can't cope with thinking they aren't right!

sputnik · 15/04/2007 11:43

Thanks everyone for your supportive messages, it's really nice to have you lot.

I've been thinking a lot about slings, there's quite a few threads about them on here and lots of people saying the hammocky type ones are best provided the bits that go over your shoulder are quite wide. Will be posting a few links in a bit.

Marylou you have made me feel all nostalgic, I splurged at Greenbaby before DD was born. One of the nicest and most useful things I had for her was this Luxury Cellular Blanket , right at the bottom of the page, on the left, it is incredibly soft.

Right, I seem to have morphed into this thread's internet shopping consultant (in the absence of Lilkel, shouldn't she be back by now?). I am so bored already with lying down.

PS Annobal, I love Charlie, it was my Grandads name and I'd love to use it but it would sound very silly with DH's surname and means something funny in Italian too. Never mind.

sputnik · 15/04/2007 11:47

Bumper, maybe you should point out that people have been carrying babies about in slings for hundreds of thousands of years, probably since we figured out how to tie knots!

Offer to let him use an upright carrier once the baby is bigger, and heavier!

foxybrown · 15/04/2007 12:45

Morning all!

Bumper - I've got 3 upright carriers, I'll only be using the babyborn with back support, but I have one of the old style babyborn and a tomy (leapord pring, obviously) one. You are welcome to borrow one for hubby. I never used mine much first time round, except for hoovering. But Dads do like to strut around with baby attached! (Don't worry, novelty soon wears off when baby's puked down the front of their shirts for the third time!)

Am hugely frustrated! spent an hour or so doing the garden and am now exhausted. Wanted to get down and clear out the store cupboard and Em's room ready for decorating, but my body is screaming SIT DOWN WOMAN!

foxybrown · 15/04/2007 12:46

leapord pring??
