hello

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sputnik · 14/04/2007 17:20

Thanks Annobal, any advice and experiences you can offer are really welcome. In a couple of days I'll be 30 weeks so I guess it's just a question of holding on as long as possible, and I am feeling strangely relaxed.

I had four or 5 contractions in a row then more during the night the other day which had me worried as I knew I was already 1cm dilated. it's been generally painful in that region for ages, which I assumed was just muscle and ligament pain. I've been taking something for a couple of weeks to calm contractions and now she's given me magnesium too.

Kudos to your Mum for flying out. I am bracing myself now to phone mine, maybe she'll offer.

Sounds like things are going better for you this time, hope you won't be joining me.

marylou23 · 14/04/2007 17:24

Sputnik, if it's any consolation, I was two months early (I'll leave it up to you whether that's reassuring or worrying...). And that was over 30 years ago when neonatal care wasn't anywhere near as advanced as it is these days .

annobal · 14/04/2007 17:26

Am keeping my legs crossed for both of us .

sputnik · 14/04/2007 17:53

No, that's very reassuring Marylou, you sound like a lovely and talented person
I need all the reassurance I can get at this point.
Just phoned my Mum and ended up in tears. She didn't offer to come over. Where we live you have to drive to get anywhere and I know she would bw way out of her comfort zone doing that, so wouldn't be much use really. Ho hum.

marylou23 · 14/04/2007 18:09

Oh Sputnik, poor poor you. It must be so hard being so far away from your family. But you'll be fine, I know you will. I think the fact you're feeling relaxed (apart from the crying...) is a good sign. Your body knows what it needs to do (chill out, basically) and is doing its best to make that easy for you. Just try not to think about it if you can (impossible, I know). I remember when I got told I had this blood disorder thing that could basically mean the placenta dries up early, I got SO upset, but then after a few nights' sleep and a bit of rational thought, I focused on the 'might' and decided that all I could do was stay as relaxed and healthy as I could and see what happens... Easy to say, I know...

sputnik · 14/04/2007 18:19

You're right, and that's the attitude I'm trying to take. Many people go through much worse.
Being on this thread is such a help too
Where did you do your mega online shop by the way? i'm always on the lookout for internet shopping distraction.

annobal · 14/04/2007 18:57

Sputnik, poor you! I think MaryLou offers very sound advice. It is so hard being away from your family but it sounds as though you have amazing support from your DH.

I do have a 15% off email for The White Company, if that will help pass the time

marylou23 · 14/04/2007 19:32

Sorry, just been for a little walk. So, shopping. Bought some fab stuff from Green baby, then went to BigImagination.co.uk where I got hammock and sling, and then Mothercare for things like breast pump. All the things I've been web-window shopping for over the past few weeks . Now just have to make sure DH is out of the house when the deliveries start arriving...

Daisybump · 14/04/2007 20:00

Sputnik...poor you . Hope things settle down and I've got my fingers, toes and legs crossed for you If it was at all possible, I would gladly hop on a plane and keep you company in sunny Italy for a while, but alas my family just won't hear of it . Sending lots of virtual (((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))) instead.

I've been having a funny old day of it, and have been feeling really crampy at the bottom of my bump, then earlier I had what felt like a contraction, but it was only on the one side, although it lasted for about 40 seconds. Now just feeling crampy and uncomfortable (and very irritable) and unsure whether or not to call my MW or sit it out till tomorrow. Been feeling genrally under the weather and am a bit off my food too (except chocolate of course and have polished off 2x200g bars of galaxy since yesterday ). The funny thing is, that as its been five years since I had DS, I can't really remember how it all kicked off. also with him, I didn't feel my early contractions at all, even though I could see them on the CTG monitor.

Hope the decorating is going OK HandA...LOL at you 'stripping for ages'..it is difficult to get ones kit off when this far gone isn't it?. I painted one wall of DS new room a gorgeous velvety dark blue earlier, but I did take it very sedately so thinking I can't have just overdone things, especially as I didn't even get out of bed till 10:30.

fingers crossed for more good weather tomorrow....

Daisybump · 14/04/2007 20:03

PS...hi annobal...not heard from you for ages and glad you are well. when is your due date....Derlor pulled over the list from the last thread and you are one of the ones who's date isn't filled in (see her post of 09 April). Sorry if you think I'm being nosey

Also sendng my thanks to MarsLady....you are a true angel for finding the time to sort this out in between helping women have their babies...I suppose Leeds is out of your range ???

foxybrown · 14/04/2007 20:09

hello lovelies.

Sputnik, am so sorry to hear your probs. I'm thinking of you, and keeping all my bits crossed too.

Daisybump, sounds like the BHs I've been having. Have you been overdoing it? I read that being dehydrated doesn't help, so make sure you drink plenty.

I haven't really had BH before, not that I remember anyway. I do think they are slightly worse when I've been busy.

Hope everyone else is well and doing ok.

Got my new pushchair today, am very excited. And I got my leopard print nursing bra from Topshop yesterday. Hurrah!! Just got to get the matching pants now.

Daisybump · 14/04/2007 20:34

Hi Foxy...i thought as much....we've had a really busy few weeks and I've been dashing around a bit since I got back and I was up a ladder painting as well (and I won't mention hoeing the back garden )

Have you been off for your spa? If so, how was it? think I can do with something similar.

foxybrown · 14/04/2007 20:40

I'm very much looking forward to my spa break next weekend! I got back from my folks in Bristol today - hard slog with the children and the driving! Not to mention the family! Its so good to be home, and I don't appear to have been infested with mice (the bugger has disappeared it seems!)

I remember decorating my bedroom sugar almond pink at 8.5 months pregnant - I don't think pg women should make colour choices, let alone be able to do the job itself! luckily I realised my mistake the following day! I've got to paint 'the girls' (love saying that!) room, which might be in 2 weeks time.

You definately to be taking it easy for a day or two Daisybump!

Where did Lilkel go?

annobal · 14/04/2007 20:59

Watching Friends at the moment - nothing on tv tonight, v boring! Ladders and painting is not a good way to be taking it easy so be careful!!!

Daisy, thanks for your message. My due date is actually July 3rd, so I'm a bit of an imposter. I joined the June thread as I haven't managed to go near my due date yet. However there is always a first time...

I like the idea of a spa - DH gave me an evening at the Sanctuary for Valentine's (got to love him!) - I must take it up soon before I get to big to move

foxybrown · 14/04/2007 21:04

tv is particularly poor tonight, you are right.

i've still got 11 weeks left - i've been snooping on the april thread, seems like i'm never going to get to the end of this pregnancy!

hope you get there too Annobel! is there any indication that it might happen again (this is number 3, right?)

annobal · 14/04/2007 21:16

Now watching NCIS, which I've seen before! Might have to go to bed as I have finished my blanket so no need to stay up knitting!

Foxy, this is no 3 (and ANOTHER BOY!!). So far things are going really well and there doesn't seem to be any indication that this one might come early. It seems as long as I stay healthy the baby stays inside and I'm pretty relaxed about this one - far more so than I was with DS2.

Daisybump · 14/04/2007 21:17

I know what you mean about colour choices etc...when we were with DH last weekend, I'd seen some particularly lovely (I thought) curtsain material, and DH said he was putting it down to my hormones. When I looked at it again, even I could see it was hideous!

Lilkel was around earlier in the week I think.....she was in Germany, but think she may be back...how does she do it I wonder?

Just been checking out DoulaUK.....having read some of the birth stories on here, I'm now really worried that DH won't make it back to me in time from Lincolnshire as it can take him 3 hours if the roads are busy......or worse still that he'll be in London when I go into labour as he has meetings at M&S head office, sometimes two or three times a week. Think I might have left things a bit late though and can just see myself giving birth on the kitchen floor with only DS and the 999 operator for company !

Couldn't remember when you were off for your spa foxy....hope its a good one. I found you the perfect accessories for your LO here and here . they'll match your undies a treat

annobal · 14/04/2007 21:18

PS I know what you mean about never reaching the end of the pg - I had a look on the April thread but I get really teary when I read about births (in a good way though), so had to put it away!

foxybrown · 14/04/2007 21:27

ohh daisybump, I like those! She already has Emily's leopard print all-in-one coat-thingy

I have the answer for you - Come to London with DH. We'll look after you! I probably won't be having mine until mid-July if the last one is anything to go by.

i think a doula is a great idea - i'm hoping to train as one in the future.

Annobel - 3 boys! lovely! how old are your two? and hows the new car? Does it sit 5 or more? I really need to think about a bigger one (dull, dull, dull).

Daisybump · 14/04/2007 21:30

I've been thinking about training to be a douls as well, but with DH away through the week, I'm not sure how practical it would be. I mean I can't really tell women that I'm happy to be their Doula provided they go into labour after 6:00pm on a Friday and are done by 6:00am Monday, can I?

Daisybump · 14/04/2007 21:31

Right...off to watch CSI NY.....love the guy with the glasses...talk to y'all tomorrow!!

MarsLady · 14/04/2007 21:32

Daisy it's rarely too late on DoulaUK. Hope you find someone.

Now.... people don't let me repeat myself. 2 of you (and you know who you are) need to send me name, address, dislikes etc as I have others awaiting your details! Email me as next week I think I'm going to be really busy and the following week I'm partying all week and the week after that I'm on my hols!

Yes... Leeds is a little far (unless you're happy to pay the taxi lol) and my website is a default signature on my emails. Thank you for the lovely compliments. MorningPaper, a fellow MNer, designed it and Hub2Dee, another MNer, took the photos!

annobal · 14/04/2007 21:34

Agree that a doula is a fab idea. I have lined up a 'mother's help', otherwise I would also be looking into a doula for after the baby is born.

DS1 is 3 1/2 and DS2 is 2 (yes, that is 3 under 4 - hence the mothers help!)

The new car is lovely and sits 5 really easily (ie 3 car seats in the back). AND a HUGE boot.

Does anyone have any idea of names yet? We're thinking of Charlie or Gilbert (not sure Gilbert would pass the supermarket test though)...

doggus · 14/04/2007 21:34

Daisybump - where in Lincs is your dh (I was brought up there!).

Annobal and foxy - I have been nosing around in April, it all seems a bit unreal to me as a first timer, that we are going to be like the April thread soon. One part of me wants just to stay pg (due to fear of the unknown) and the other part wants some sort of a life back!

Our 'nursery' (aka spare room) is already yellow, so I thought I'd leave it as we have no idea of lo's gender.

Marylou - you have set me off again - now going to BigImagination and taking a peek at JoJoMamanBebe. I have just bought one of these . I am SUCH a gullible consumer....

annobal · 14/04/2007 21:36

That was also my motivation for watching NCIS Daisy...
