Morning all, new thread for today.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
twelveyeargap · 11/04/2007 17:37

Went to Primark today. Very bargainous. Only had one pair of jammies that fit me so I picked up a couple of pairs for £6 each. Also a nightshirt for £3 in case I need to go to hospital at all. Bought some large person's trackie pants for £3 a pair, so no loss really if I decide to hack most of the legs off for sitting in the garden. Couple of smock shaped vest tops for a couple of quid each to go over trackie pants. What a glorious sight I shall be. My jeans look very smart, but boy do they cut under the bump when you sit for too long. Shan't actually be leaving the house in said cut off/ vest ensemble!

At 34 weeks, there is just no way I'm buying any more "maternity" wear.

T'was quite a stressful shop though. I can't bear the clothes all over the floors. It makes me anxious...

Plus got stuck in traffic leaving Hackney and was 15 mins late picking up DD at the airport. BAD mother. Poor abandoned child. (Air France were obviously keeping an eye on her, but still...) Anyway, that's the last time she'll need an escort. My little girl will be 12 next month and will be able to travel alone on some airlines. She's such a jetsetter it will be no bother to her at all.

twelveyeargap · 11/04/2007 18:07

BTW - was going to get some raspberry leaf tablets/ tea tomorrow and some arnica tablets. Anyone used these before? Shall I start both asap? (Am 34 weeks)

My perineal massage gel arrived too... Think you start that at 36 weeks though, no?

twelveyeargap · 11/04/2007 18:11

No response from my text to Scoot. Hope she's ok...

scootermum · 11/04/2007 18:11

She is so brave TYG-I dont even like to fly on my own now and I am 27!

Called hosp and they said to give it another few hours and if still nothing much movement wise to go in..have tried juice and et al but not much doing and really feeling very crampy just now, but that might be because I've a tummy bug..Am starting to worry a bit more now TBH..

Just got DD from CM and then when DH gets back will call hosp again I think..dont want to lug DD up there really so will have to see if someone can sit for her whilst we go, after she has gone to bed or else will go on my own...Unless baby Scoot wakes up first (pokes bump ferociously)

BTW-Who was it said they lived in st Aalbans-im only in Ware which is no distance if you fancy meeting in the middle? Was it you madeindevon?

scootermum · 11/04/2007 18:13

Sorry TYG cross post there-no mobbile reception in the sticks, unless I climb to the top of the big hill! But thanks for texting!

Mrsjaffabiffa · 11/04/2007 18:40

Scoot..... keep prodding. I'm sure all is OK, but I do think you should go in to be monitored if you can, will put your mind at rest. Will be thinking about you and sending wriggly baby vibes this evening.

TYG, I bought my arnica today. I wasn't sure if it was the same out here, asked very gingerly in my crap French at the chemist and she appereared with just what I wanted. They are the little tiny balls that you click into the cap and swallow or crunch. I don't start mine until after birth and crunch 2/3 every 2hrs for the first day and then a few times a day after that. I used them with H and M and I think they were really good.

tokentotty · 11/04/2007 18:46

Blatant Hijack alert**

TYG - sorry to gatecrash your thread but y'know on Sat when you said about looking for a pram that suited what I thought I might want? Well can you tell me what you think/know about this one Here Have a feeling you and your panel of experts might have some wise words about it. Tia.

Apologies and hope all of you are really well xxxxx

Mrsjaffabiffa · 11/04/2007 18:50

Had a text from Aprilmeadow. They are on there way home from hospital..... Awww lucky them.

cameroonmama · 11/04/2007 19:00

TYG I bought my Arnica tablets in a health food shop, brand Weleda Arnica 30c, and was advised to start taking them about a week before if you can. I hate to admit it but I am a huge Primark fan. I bought loads of those strappy t-shirts for the hospital after birth. I read in the paper there was a stampede at the opening of the new branch in Oxford Street, maybe I am cooler than I thought

Scoot, go with your instincts, if you feel things are not right there is no harm in going to the hospital to check.

MrsJB re:Martha, I was thinking the same thing about the pronounciation, Jorja will certainly slip nicely off the tongue.

Hope SOH is keeping those legs well and truly crossed, if anyone was going to give birth in London Zoo it would have to be her. I guess Mathilda doesn't want to miss out on any action..

Juicylucytoo · 11/04/2007 19:01

Thanks TYG - it's not too expensive either.

Are you planning to use one? Can't remember if you're planning home birth too.

How are you getting on with the hypnobirthing CD? I'm still working my way through the book (Must read more and watch less Greys Anatomy)

Juicylucytoo · 11/04/2007 19:04

Tokentotty. I checked this one out. Depends what you're looking for. I thought it was very versatile and quite a funky style, but frame is quite bulky and a bit heavy. HTH.

largeginandtonic · 11/04/2007 19:04

Oooooh nice pram! Looks lovely. Know nothing about it though sorry.

TYG bummer about the car, hope it is'nt too pricey. I went to Primark too to get a nightshirt in the week for the birth. Did i dream it or did i mention it to you? Bizzare....

So glad AM is on her way home with Ella, i bet she is all tiny and gorgeous

We wont get the mail from last week re directed MrsJB, only this week on. So no hope of the little red card being helpful im afraid

Baby hiccuping lots, must be all the coke im drinking I cant help it, i lurve it soooo much.

Scooter hope it is all ok, good luck and keep us posted. What on earth did we do before mobile phones?!

Curry for tea, yum. DH making it right now, plenty of mango chutney and lime pickle for me

twelveyeargap · 11/04/2007 19:20

waves to tokentotty I tried that one out. It's nice, but you have to take the seat off to fold it. Lady shop owner was a mountain buggy fan, having used one for her child and was "uncertain" of how well made the icandy's were, but she was biased. Think your only issue is the seat-off thing. Same problem as with a Bugaboo. Will email you some stuff. Forgot to take your work email when I packed up at work. Email me on twelveyeargap at googlemail dot com.

Forgot about your "living in the sticks" reception problem Scoot. Will try not to worry in future! Hope you're feeling better later but absolutely no harm in being checked over.

Juicy - They are the cheapest pools I think. I liked the colour too... Very shallow, but I thought it looked nice and relaxing and I like the inflatable floor. Nice and comfy for kneeling on. Oh and yes, planning a home water birth. Actually, my next midwife visit in two weeks is the "homebirth chat".

Yeah I read about hte Primark stampede. Bonkers. Apparently there was a rumour that they were selling everything for £1 and people queued up. Everything was the same price as every other store... Doh. Might have a wander into that one one day. Each store has it's own buyer so you do get variations in stock. I personally think that Penney's in Ireland has a better selection in general. I'm always loading up my case when I'm over. I digress...

Thanks for help re: arnica. WIll get some tomorrow.

Must make dinner. Ciao.

Juicylucytoo · 11/04/2007 19:29

May have to check out Primark tomorrow now TYG. You've put me in shopping mood!!

Will talk to DH about the pool. Haven't had my mw homebirth visit yet. Will ask again about it next week at mw appt. (MW stuck a piece of paper about it in her stack of 100 other bits of paper at the back of her diary, so not sure she's done anything about it

Mrsjaffabiffa · 11/04/2007 19:30

Oh yes, Ignore my slightly stupid pregnant brain lg&t. Think I had an image of the postman getting back somehow all the post he'd delivered, durrrrrrrrrrrr forgot it would actually have been put through your door. lol Never mind, I'll see how I get on tommorow.

Hope SOH is ok?

drkgpink · 11/04/2007 20:40

Well you lot have all been chatty today. Scooter I am thinking about you, hope lo is doing a jig now.

I must confess to having done a primark shop today for below mentioned pj's etc, think every new mum in the country will be wearing them I was told about them by my friend who delivered last week. I am very jealous of her she is already back in size 10 in primark clothes. DOn't think I'll be so lucky. She swears it's just due to breast feeding but i know my mum breast fed me and still struglled to lose weight, hope its not in the genes!!!

cameroonmama - i know the pub its still there, club may have been music factory?? not sure they all seem to change there names so often.

At the mw tomorrow, hoping he's turned but to be honest don't think so. feels a bit like a frank breech sometimes. as last time no-one could agree on a bum or a head either down or up who knows?? a scan perhaps beckons!!! I am 36 + 2 and would really like to know where he's at.

Sleep well everyone.

aprilmeadow · 11/04/2007 22:11

Good evening ladies

Well that was a shock!!

Went for a lie down on the sofa on Monday night at 9pm and pretty much straight away what i thought were BH's started. Didnt really think too much of it as i have had them on and off in the evenings for the past week or so. By about 10pm they were more regular but i wasnt timing them i just merrily carried away watching Lost! Went upstairs at 11pm and took my make up off - something i never do - then i felt this big rumble and that was my waters going, only problem was that they were blood not water. Frantically got hold of my mum to come over whilst still 'weeing' blood. Raced to hospital with my mum whilst dh waited for my sister to arrive to stay the night with Jack. J was now awake and wondering where i was going with Granny.

Got to hosp at 23.37 and was put on the monitor and given scan to see if baby had turned. Heartbeat was strong and she had indeed turned . Dh arrived shortly after as he had tried to settle ds before he left. Was examined and told 2-3cm at about 1am. At 2.30am the pains were 2mins apart and soooooo painful. Gave in and had pethadine at about 3am - great stuff. Managed to have about 40mins of relief and then had the urge to push. Three pushes later at 03.54 and Ella Claire Elisabeth SHOT out like a cannonball! 5lbs 10.5oz of beautiful tinie tiny baby. Was in total shock as the midwife told me that she thought i needed a poo!!! in fact the 'poo' was the baby delivered all in the 3rd push.
No stitches required - yay!! Got onto the ward at 6am feeling great! Had to have Ella's blood sugars tested as she was under 37weeks (but only by 2days). Needed them to be 2.5 or above but her first reading came back at 1.1. She took t breast feeding really well but wasnt getting enough to be able to get the levels up. They suggested putting her on formula just to get the levels up and then switch back to breast to maintain. Thought that this was the best idea. They gave her 2 formula feeds and then just used it to top up for one more. By 8pm they were up enough not to have to have tests done anymore and also to allow us to come home today. Poor Ella has about 10 punctures on her heels as a result. We are on a 3hr feeding routine and she is feeding like a trooper which is great. The hospital was soo busy that it took until 4.30pm to get my discharge papers. Was tearing my hair out and kept saying that i needed to collect ds from nursery by 6pm as i was missing him so much.

Feels so nice to be home and ds is so pleased with his sister. She is so tiny and makes him look so grown up!!

Will have a proper catch up tomorrow and post pictures but have to say 'Mathilda stay put!!!' What is it with these May babies wanting to escape early!

Juicylucytoo · 11/04/2007 22:32

Well done AM. Sounds like you did a grand job on the birthing front. Glad you are both safe back home and all is well.
Bring on the piccies

Hope my labour is as short as yours - but would like to wait another 7 weeks before going through it!!

Pinkjenny · 12/04/2007 08:00

April - the birth sounds like a dream, only a few hours! Sounds good to me.

I have a question, if you do, ahem, have a poo, does the midwife tell you, and make a big deal out of it? I'm worried about this. Although I'm sure when the time comes I won't be!

I have also bought my PJs from Primark. Haha, we'll all be in the postnatal wards wearing uniforms of Primark PJs. Not that we're cheap or anything...

Am 'working from home' today (aka doing nothing) and going for lunch with a friend and her two year old. Cleaning lady comes on a Thursday at 9.15am, hoorah! I'm so lazy, at least the house is clean for one day, until dh comes in and makes a mess.

I also have another stupid question. How many vests should I get? Want to go and get them today. Does she need vests on under her babygro in summer? Honestly, I'm rubbish. I'm having a crisis of confidence all of a sudden.

largeginandtonic · 12/04/2007 08:08

at speedy arrival of Ella! So glad it all went well for both of you. What a lovely early surprise, you were posting just a half hour before your Braxton Hicks\contractions kicked off. You never can tell with these babies

She sounds so sweet and tiny, id love a little one this time. Pretty sure mine is bigger than Ella is already.

Am off to the park for a picnic today, hooray! Out of the house.....have to chase midwife first. Starting to feel like i may have slipped through the net here.

Hope you are ok scooter

largeginandtonic · 12/04/2007 08:13

Morning PinkJenny, i am an expert in pooing in labour... I manage it every time. The midwife will whip it away quick and you probably wont even know you have done it. It is usually right before the head decends so you are pre occupied as it were I wouldnt worry at all, nobody else cares and will have seen it all before.

I would get about 10 vests and be putting them under the babygro. Babies have a tendancy to leak out of the corners and tops of the vests (nice) so you can end up changing them at each nappy change. Especially breastfed babies, lots of natural sugars in breast milk that kind of ferments in their little tummies and shoots out. Oh the things to look forward too.

Pinkjenny · 12/04/2007 08:46

Thanks LG & T - I'll hotfoot it out this morning and get some more vests.

The pooing thing is something to be concerned about, admittedly. Hey ho, she's got to come out somehow!

(Although between you and me, I'm still banking on the stork turning up)

largeginandtonic · 12/04/2007 08:58

The stork...of course.....after 5 children i still live in hope their is actually a stork. Now Dumbo i may give birth too......

dejags · 12/04/2007 09:02

Congrats AM - what a lovely name you have chosen .

OK I feel a MAJOR rant coming on - feel free to ignore.

I feel absolutely huge
I cannot sleep properly at night
I managed about 3hrs broken sleep last night
I am working full time with 2 children
I have to get up at 5.30am for work and don't get home until 5pm
My boss is a twat
The baby is breech
I may have to have a C Section

OK, so I feel a teeeeensy bit better getting that off my chest.

twelveyeargap · 12/04/2007 09:19

Aprilmeadow I am SO pleased for you (bloody queue-jumper! ) Awh. It's just great that you're both ok and home. Well done.

Oh dejags. Poor you. You have my deepest sympathies with the early starts and long days. You really do. Particularly with two small children to look after. When do you finish work?
Fingers crossed you get a decent night's sleep tonight. It really will make all the difference. I think we can cope with all the other stuff if we're well rested, but the lack of sleep really, really brings you down. Any chance you can get to bed early tonight?

Pooing in labour... Did not do it with DD but thought I was. Nobody thought to tell me that the head decending makes you feel like you're about to do a huge poo so I was ranting about it and worrying and the midwife was trying to calm me down and say it was ok if I did and I was in the horrors about having a poo in front of ANYONE. I swear, that's the thing I remember most clearly. Hardly any recollection of the birth, but can remember the poo trauma. My friend did a big one on her first and let's just say that her DH stayed up the head end when she had her second...
