Welcome to thread 2 for babies due in May 2018.

Looking forward to early scans, seeing the first flutters and progressing further into the first trimester.

Noredwine reading your message it’s like I wrote it! I too am 39 and first time Mum & I have a very stressful job with a needy team wanting my energy all the time!!

I’ve been toying with the idea of whether to have an early scan. I know it’ll reassure me in the moment but then I will start to worry again!! I’m 7 weeks today and have my booking appointment on Monday (so will be 7+5). If you had your time again, would you still have the early scan or do you think it only gives you temporary reassurance so not worth it?

Xx

Noredwine · 04/10/2017 15:56

Wilko lovely to "meet" someone in the same boatSmile
I was really glad to have early scan (lucky to afford it as I know not everyone can - mine was £60 odd I think) as it did least reassure me it was a "viable" pregnancy - i.e. Not ectopic or empty sac and also not multiple (as have twins in family) where risk of mc would be even higher. I had had a tiny bit of spotting too. Heart rate was really good so it had helped me think a bit more positively - as once see heart beat risk of mc does go down statistically speaking but I know there is still risk even with symptoms as for example one of my good friends had strong symptoms and didn't get scanned until 12 weeks and had had a missed mc at around 8 weeks so whilst the scan was reassuring at the time I and still conscious that things could well still change at these early stages. My DH says however that it didn't feel real to him until he saw scan (he has a 13 year old son with ex-wife) and has taken the view that unless it "drops out" I am definitely still pregnant!! Such a lovely turn of phrase from DH but it does mean his positivity keeps me calmer than I would otherwise be.

wilkojnr · 04/10/2017 16:14

@Noredwine you’re kidding? My DH has a 13 year old with an ex too!

Thank you for your thoughts on early scan - appreciate it. I’m undecided. It’s not the money, just I don’t want to give myself false hope if that makes sense? X

Booking in appt tomorrow I'm 9wks today. Can midwife prescribe anti sickness tablets or will I have to see gp as well?
I'm taking promethazine which I was prescribed for whole pregnancy last time, but I don't think it's working as well as last time and I want to try something else.

In other news, there's NO takeaways on Just Eat in our new village Shock

Got some gaviscon today. I'll be taking the stupid big bottle with me wherever I go. Along with anti sickness tablets, emergency food, and sick bags. The joys of pregnancy!

cazinge · 04/10/2017 20:04

Hello. Can I join?

I am 7+1 with a singleton after donor sperm IVF. I had my final hospital appointment today and have been discharged after 2.5 years! This is my first pregnancy after 5 rounds of fertility treatment in that time.

We had a scan (as IVF has a higher risk of ectopic) and saw the heartbeat, nurse said all looked 'perfect'. Booking in with midwife on Tuesday when I will be 8w.

Like others I had convinced myself it wasn't viable as only have sore boobs, tiredness & some v mild nausea 1st thing before I've eaten.

Gyoza · 04/10/2017 20:22

Welcome @cazinge that's lovely to hear your IVF has been a success!

Noredwine · 04/10/2017 20:37

Hi cazinge - congratulations! You must so pleased to finally get pregnant! Best of luck with your pregnancy -what is your due date? It's lovely to see that little tiny heart beating away isn't it!? X

LadyPug · 04/10/2017 20:57

Hey cazinge welcome! Wow, what a journey you've had! Lots of likeminded ppl here. I'm 7+2 and have my booking in the same day as you!

BackIn2020 · 04/10/2017 23:28

Hello! I'm finally joining after a few weeks of lurking - I found out that I was pregnant really early on but didn't want to jinx things by joining too soon Blush I still can't really believe that I'm pregnant!

I'm 6+2 and by my own calculations, due on 28th May. Booking in with midwife next Thursday Grin and feeling very sick most of the time Confused sorry to hear about everyone else who's been suffering, it's grim isn't it?!

Piewraith · 05/10/2017 03:13

Congrats Backin2020! Yes it's a bit grim so far but hopefully we are all lucky and the sickness won't last.

Aggy106 · 05/10/2017 07:40

Welcome Cazinge really pleased you've finally got your positive! Hey Backin2020 it's great we've got a couple of new people.

I'm having a bit of a worry today as my symptoms have almost disappeared, boobs feeling ok and I'm not feeling any where near as sick as I was on Monday and only a bit nauseous. I know I should be pleased to be getting a bit of a break but really worried, have anyone else's symptoms gone from full blown to almost nothing?

Noredwine · 05/10/2017 07:53

Welcome backin2020 - I found out really early too (before my period was even due) and those first few weeks feel like an age don't they?! Congratulations x

Zoo33 · 05/10/2017 07:54

@Aggy I've had very few symptoms anyway but even they seem to have vanished. Not feeling very positive and have probably done myself no favours by reading all sorts of articles on Google.

Noredwine · 05/10/2017 07:56

Aggy106 - I was never really sick but had very sore boobs, nausea and extreme tiredness at about week 6 and then all disappeared day before my first early scan so I was convinced it was bad news and then when had scan then next day at 7.5 weeks - all was fine! Doctor told me the hormones all fluctuate and sudden loss of symptoms by itself (without bleeding or cramping) is perfectly normal and not to worry x

Aggy106 · 05/10/2017 08:12

Thanks zoo and nored that's made me feel better that you're finding the same thing. zoo as nored said symptoms fluctuate and as long as no bleeding or pain then it's hopefully all good. Have you got any appointments coming up with your GP or midwife to talk it through.

Rationally I know I'm being ridiculous but after two miscarriages I'm finding it really hard to remain calm. I'm still doing daily pregnancy tests with cheapies and temping just to check but if it's another missed mc I won't have any warning signs.

Sorry everyone for being stressy, it's probably not helping anyone else. I'd just like my symptoms back please.

Zoo33 · 05/10/2017 08:31

@Aggy I haven't had my midwife referral through yet, but I've booked an early scan for next weekend (when I'll be 7+3), so we'll see.

@noredwine Thanks for the reassurance - I guess everyone is different but it's good to know your doctor said symptoms coming and going is normal.

Zoo33 · 05/10/2017 08:35

I daren't share my (hopefully paranoid) worries with my bf because his best friend just lost their baby at what must have been about 10 weeks, so I know he'll panic.

borthy · 05/10/2017 10:26

Advice please! DP will be away for work for the whole of week 12, when my first scan is due. Do I:

  • Try to rearrange scan for week 11
  • Try to rearrange scan for week 13
  • Go ahead without him there?
Will it affect the due date prediction (based on measurements) if I have the scan in week 11/13 instead of 12? This is our first pregnancy after trying for 2 years so v.excited.
cautiousoptimist1 · 05/10/2017 10:37

Welcome to the newbies - cazinge, what a journey you've had.

bortha, do you have your scan date yet, it may come through for 11 or 13th week anyway and it won't affect the EDD, they make an EDD based on baby measurements. If you're opting for the screening then I still think week 13 is ok. You could ask your midwife at booking in if they're able to avoid certain dates.

borthy · 05/10/2017 10:42

Thanks cautiousoptimist1. We have the date for the scan (7h Nov) and it is week 12, when DP is away.

Motherofpuppies · 05/10/2017 10:52

@Borthy, I had my booking appointment yesterday and was given my scan date for when I'm 11 + 5. I think it's quite routine to do it in either week 11 or 13. We had to do mine on a Friday as my DH works overseas Monday through Thursday, and the midwife was really nice about organising it at a time that he could make it.

cautiousoptimist1 · 05/10/2017 10:52

borthy, sorry I changed your name before! Is there a number to call to see if they can fit you in on either week 11 or 13? I think it has to be before 14 weeks for the screening if you're having it. Does your DH want to be there? Do you have someone to go with you if you can't change it? Would a private scan be an option for you?

borthy · 05/10/2017 11:10

Thanks Motherofpuppies and cautiousoptimist1 and no worries about changing my name cautiousoptimist1. The name refers to Borth, where I live. If anyone reading this lives anywhere near Borth, please PM me!
I feel MilfordFound's pain (above) as Borth also has no Just Eat takeaways.

Noredwine · 05/10/2017 11:15

So I had quite bad stabbing/nagging/aching pains on low left side and then low right side last night when on the sofa before bed - had before but not quite as painful or prolonged.
Then this morning when went to loo for a poo (tmi sorry!) when I wiped after wee there was bright red but light blood on tissue. Completely freaked me out. Then had to go walk the huskies but when came back and went to loo again all ok. Tiny bit of brown when wiped after wee. Have frantically googled and seen something that reckons can bleed a little if strain for poo and/or placenta properly kicking in around week 10 (I will be 10 weeks tomorrow) can cause a small bleed. Anyone else experienced similar? Have Harmony scan on Monday anyway so don't suppose there is much I can do but wait and see but grateful if anyone else has had similar?

timeisnotaline · 05/10/2017 15:15

Welcome cazinge very excited for you! Fascinated to hear no red wine and Wilko are actually the same person Grin
My major work deadline Saturday (with a lot of support required following ) just got moved two weeks. It's a huge relief... but I am on some strong meds and don't know if I can justify taking them for weeks to get through it! Problem for next week... meds are wonderful though. to feel hungry and have food taste good and not see it again... it's the little things!
