Ladies,

Welcome to thread 2 for babies due in May 2018.

Looking forward to early scans, seeing the first flutters and progressing further into the first trimester.

Any of you guys based in the Chippenham or Bath area? I moved here a year ago after a year renting in Bath and am from the midlands so have no friends or family within a two hour drive! Be great if someone was expecting same time as me and relatively local. X

Aggy106 · 03/10/2017 07:38

I've got my booking in appointment with the midwife this morning, hope she can get through it quickly as I need to get to work. On the plus side I get a lie in because of it!

I don't know how you guys with kids are getting through it, it must be so exhausting!

I'm also finding the constant nausea is almost as debilitating as the actusl being sick, is anyone else getting stomach ache too?

Welcome pink!

HerSymphonyAndSong · 03/10/2017 07:50

I'm getting quite a bit of tummy pains and in my case I think it's my digestion slowing down so lots of trapped wind and indigestion... lovely

cautiousoptimist1 · 03/10/2017 08:08

noredwine, I'm not in your area I'm afraid but we also moved away from our families so have little local help. It's going to be harder this time as I will need someone to be around to have DD unless I go to the hospital on my own. It might not work for you but what worked for me was going to a local church, I'm the youngest there by some distance but it was so welcoming and I had so much support from them when I had DD - they came around with cake and offered to do the hoovering, make meals etc. I didn't take them up on the hoovering but it was really nice to feel some local support if I needed it.
When baby arrives you will find new friends too, I'd suggest talking to your neighbours - all of ours have loved having a baby on the street - but also joining groups when you can. Groups may not be for you but I think they're worth trying, you'll meet local mums (and group helpers!) and it helped me in the early days have a target to get out to.
That was long and rambly but hope it helps.

My nausea is worst at night now, I feel so ill when I go to bed. Boiled sweets helps, not great for my teeth but I'm just going to have to go with it for now! And the evening bloating is almost painful, I definitely had that last time but I'm not sure it was this early (I'm 7+3). I also have bad back pain, it's higher up than I'd expect - where my bra strap is and I wonder if I need the back extenders but it doesn't feel tight - anyone else having this? It almost feels like I'm having spasms.

Is it your first noredwine? If so antenatal classes are the way to go to meet some people in the same boat locally if you can find any on :)

HerSymphonyAndSong · 03/10/2017 09:37

Oh no I think I might have finally gone off coffee :(

LadyPug · 03/10/2017 09:38

God even the word coffee makes me urge symphony yesterday I was upstairs and my DH put the coffee machine on and I though I was going to throw up! I closed the bedroom door and opened the window! Haha

Dorotha · 03/10/2017 10:33

I can't even say 'coffee' without gagging.

@Aceofspade I'm currently dropping weight which also happened during my first pregnancy. You will bounce back once nausea goes away.

I've promised my son that we'll go to a big park after preschool, currently on the sofa trying to summon some energy. It's a bus ride away and will probably involve lots of walking.

LadyPug · 03/10/2017 10:40

I could have written that Dorotha also sat on the sofa having promised
DD that we'll go to the park today. I seriously cannot face it, she's so full on right now! Trying to remember this WILL fade! I won't always feel this crap!

willisurvive2under2 · 03/10/2017 10:57

God my sickness was on another level last night Sad I went to bed just after 9 and got up well over 10 times to be sick, it was awful. I hurt my throat and there was blood at the end of it. So painful. I remember the same happened once or twice with DS - I'm lucky this tends to happen in the evenings when he's safely tucked up in bed... he's only 1 and has no understanding of 'Mummy needs a minute in the toilet'.

Today I have to start training a new person at work and I feel like death warmed up. 8 weeks today, time is actually moving relatively quickly this time around.

tiramisualwaystiramisu · 03/10/2017 11:02

In terms of meeting people noredwine I did a pregnancy yoga class and met a few people there. My friend who did the same formed a really lovely friendship group from her class

Doublechocolatetiffin · 03/10/2017 11:02

Welcome @pinkcarpet! I'm also due on the 12th.

@Phoenix I'm really sorry to hear that, I hope you are ok.

@Noredwine, I'm not in your area either, but I agree that NCT is good if it's your first. I've made some lovely friends through my NCT group.

I've just had my booking appointment this morning, thankfully no bloods taken (they won't be don't till my scan). Bit of an early start, but at least it's done now. I seem to be low risk and she suggested they might do a scan at 36 weeks this time which was good because my daughter was breech at 41 weeks.

cautiousoptimist1 · 03/10/2017 11:37

That's good tiffin, the booking appointment feels like a bit of a milestone. The reason I think I'm going to tell my Mum today is to see if she'll have my DD when I go for mine (when I'll be 9+5) as DD won't sit still for long enough and it seems a shame to use my DH holiday!

Everyone gets a scan here at 36 weeks. It was introduced a couple of months after I had DD.

noredwine, yes how could I forget NCT?!

Doublechocolatetiffin · 03/10/2017 12:34

@cautiousoptimist - I opted for the iPhone/CBeebies nanny for mine, but my family aren't close and my DH has no holiday left so I didn't have a huge amount of choice!

It does seem sensible to have a scan at 36 weeks. I'll ask if it's not mentioned again! There is no way I want to be at a 41 week check being told my baby is breech again.

LadyPug · 03/10/2017 13:00

Update: I can eat cold pasta with tuna and salt and pepper on it! First thing I've managed to eat and get energy from in weeks! Woo hoo!

Dorotha · 03/10/2017 13:04

Ice lollies all the way. Also, caramel popcorn and bagels with cream cheese.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 03/10/2017 13:28

Heinz cream of tomato soup has given me brief respite from nausea today

MegsMog · 03/10/2017 15:26

Hi all, I've been awful at keeping up with the thread, sorry. I've been well and truly hit with the sickness & nausea and have been finding it such a struggle! GP prescribed some meds which seem to have helped with the puking though still feeling pretty rough.

Had a follow up scan today and all is looking good, measuring 8+6 and bean looking nice and cozy, so finally starting to feel excited (and terrified at the thought of two, of course!)

Will try and catch up now.

treehousemama · 03/10/2017 16:09

Had a follow-up scan today after one ten days ago showed an empty gestational sac, and got the shock of my life when there was a beating heart in there! Really truly thought it was a blighted ovum. Serves me right for being impatient and also not understanding that long cycles mean refining your dates! So I'm only 7weeks0days today. So relieved.

Living on bagels and apples right now, and Vegemite on toast (you can take the girl out of Australia...). 24 hour nausea and supersonic sense of smell as well as 2 hour nap required every afternoon! Don't know how you ladies with children do it!

Doublechocolatetiffin · 03/10/2017 17:00

Lovely news on the scans @Megsmogs and @Treehousemama. You must be so relieved!

Motherofpuppies · 03/10/2017 17:11

Great news @treehousemama!

Found this article really helpful for what to try and eat when the thought of everything makes you feel sick:

www.macheesmo.com/10-meals-for-pregnant-women/

Some of the suggestions really made sense and at least helped me choose a few things I could cope with. Completely changing my diet has helped massively with the nausea.

Crunchy things and carbs work a dream. And fizzy drinks which (tmi) help you burp which can be weirdly helpful. Bland kids food is generally doing the trick too - hula hoops and babybel cheeses?!

God do I miss liking coffee and good food!

AlexsMum89 · 03/10/2017 17:45

I've been so terrible with the nausea but for 3 days now I've been much improved. It's worrying me - I'm treating it as a blip because it's too early for ms to ease off. I'm also scares it means something has gone wrong. I won't lie tho, it's a blooming delight to eat and not want to bring it back up!

Whatamuddleduck · 03/10/2017 18:20

Amongst all the anxiety, sickness and exhaustion of the first trimester; is anyone else enjoying the cuteness of their DP getting excited about being a parent? My DPhas started imagining how he will parent. No iPads, all meals at the table and no junk food here apparently! I'll remind him of that when we are entertaining a baby with an iPad whilst grabbing snacks!

HerSymphonyAndSong · 03/10/2017 18:33

Muddleduck I got a text from H the other day saying "only got 4 hours' sleep last night but I feel ok - ready for fatherhood!"

Because a one-off is exactly the same! 😂

tiramisualwaystiramisu · 03/10/2017 20:03

Fab news treehousemama and megsmog - glad everything is ok. The next 3 weeks are going to drag waiting for my scan!

whatamuddleduck watching my DH becoming a dad has been lovely the first time around. He's definitely getting excited about little baby cuddles!
