Ladies,

Welcome to thread 2 for babies due in May 2018.

Looking forward to early scans, seeing the first flutters and progressing further into the first trimester.

Hairgician, that really sounds awful! I'm glad you're getting the sickness under control and hope you get home today. Have I remembered correctly that you have older DC? Your SIL sounds lovely, although it is possible the mints were a hint I think I'd take it as she knew they'd help. Has she been through similar and maybe knows what it's like being stuck in hospital?

Cautiousoptimist1 no she has no dc herself, she gets to spoil her nieces and nephew insteadGrin yes I have a 4yr old ds. The mints were brill though, inhaled a whole packet in 5 mins lol! Poor SIL brought me to casualty on sun night as thought that best rather than dp who could then stay with d's and take him to school. Little did we know it would be 3.30am before I was admitted to the ward and get to bed!!

Anyone considering the harmony test/scan? As I'm 35 I'm thinking it may be worth the early checks. I believe it's around £400. Added incentive of finding out the sex much earlier too. What are people's thoughts? Worth it?

Dorotha · 28/09/2017 09:27

Not planning to do harmony. I don't see much point in it as it wouldn't change anything for us. And £400 could go towards a lovely holiday after the baby's older. I'm so desperate for some sunny holiday right now :)

LadyPug · 28/09/2017 10:05

Morning everyone, just updating... lots of old dried brown blood this morning, feeling a bit better about it all as hope this is the end of it all but still very anxious

cautiousoptimist1 · 28/09/2017 10:08

Hairgician, well bless her she sounds like a star!

ruby I'm not planning on having the Harmony test and I'm 34. I would consider it if I were high risk after the dating scan before a diagnostic test but as Dorotha said, £400 can be used for so many other baby or family related things. I think you also need to carefully consider what the results would mean for you too. I also don't want to know the sex but can see the appeal of finding out early.

ladypug it sounds like it's settling down so hope it's plain sailing for you from now.

Btw we found out the sex during the 12 weeks NHS scan. I was 13 weeks at the time and she was fairly certain but obviously couldn't guarantee yet she was right.

Having said that, it was hardly a surprise that it was a boy because my husband's family only produce boys (14 in a row thus far!!). So I'm pretty sure this one is a boy too :)

Doublechocolatetiffin · 28/09/2017 10:19

@Rubyshoes2 I have just started discussing the harmony test with my DH. I'm far more cautious following the miscarriage (just reminds you that things can go wrong) and so I'm considering it. I'm tempted to book it in at 10 weeks, I think the earlier I know about any problems the more time I have to decide what to do. Plus the reassurance from my early scan is wearing off and I'd like to have another scan!

Equally I could just book another scan and wait to see what the NHS test says and do the harmony if needed. It'd be a lot cheaper that way. As you can see - I'm undecided!!

LadyPug · 28/09/2017 10:34

Thanks cautious fingers crossed!

Californiadreaming15 · 28/09/2017 10:36

I'm really toying with the idea of another scan. My 12 week one is booked for 13 week point (8+6 atm) so it's still 4 weeks away. I am so sick and I've got low blood pressure which isn't helping.

How has everyone been with dreaming. I've always been a dreamer but they have totally stepped up a gear. I've now killed someone and I've had two separate 'sexual encounters' with Russel Brand (have no idea where this has come from I have never thought of him like this)

timeisnotaline · 28/09/2017 10:37

I'm 34, will be 35 when baby is born and it hasn't even crossed my mind to have the scan. 35 is not a cliff your fertility falls off :)

PhoenixDown · 28/09/2017 10:51

Sat waiting for scan. Utterly terrified.

timeisnotaline · 28/09/2017 11:22

All ok phoenix?

LadyPug · 28/09/2017 11:36

Thinking of you phoenix we are all rooting for you at this end!

cautiousoptimist1 · 28/09/2017 11:43

14 boys Dorotha?! Wow, there'll be plenty of hand me downs if this one is also a boy then! On the other hand, I think a surprise girl might be very spoilt!

OP posts:
PhoenixDown · 28/09/2017 11:48

Well it's not dire but not what I wanted to hear either. Sac visible with yolk sac but no embryo visible. They said it looks like a standard 5 week pregnancy so have to have rescan in 2 weeks to see if it's grown. Obvs if I start bleeding a lot in meantime that answers the question.

Problem is I am pretty sure of when I conceived so being a full week behind doesn't bode well imo. They did say it looked like a normal sac with a regular shape and no obvious source of bleeding which was positive. So basically I'm still in limbo :(

PhoenixDown · 28/09/2017 11:50

Although after googling it seems it's quite normal to not see a fetal pole at 6 weeks? Confused

Dorotha · 28/09/2017 11:54

6 weeks is quite early for a scan so I wouldn't be too worried!!

I can't bring myself to EPU. Too freaking scared. Also the spotting stopped. Fingers crossed it stays that way now.

And yes we had bags and bags of hand me downs last time! But we gave them back to be used for other cousins and now all other families are done with having babies so I wouldn't be surprised if they sold everything or donated to charity.. I hope not! :)

Dorotha · 28/09/2017 11:55

Ok spoke too soon. Bright red now. Gaaarrrhhh!! 😡

LadyPug · 28/09/2017 12:05

Absolutely phoenix hang on in there. The measurements are rarely accurate at this stage. I also know conception and am measured a week behind but when I told sonographer this they explained that's why dating scan is at 12 weeks as accuracy is so poor. Just hang on in there and try to relax.

Whatamuddleduck · 28/09/2017 12:38

We aren't going for the harmony test or the blood test at 12 weeks. We've had such heartbreak getting to this point that unless an ultra sound scan shows an issue that is definitely incompatible with life DP and I have agreed that we will continue. I totally accept that that isn't the case for everyone else and that we all make our own decisions about what feels right. It does make me very nervous about the 12 week scan (2 weeks 6 days to go- eek!)

PhoenixDown · 28/09/2017 12:40

Thanks @LadyPug after thinking about it and using the dreaded google I'm feeling a bit better. By LMP I should be 7+1, but I think I ovulated around day 21-22, which would make me 6 weeks, which could be consistent with seeing yolk sac but no fetal pole. Treated myself to a Maccy Ds, always makes me feel better Grin

PhoenixDown · 28/09/2017 12:41

Aww not again Dorotha :( I hope it settles again x

willisurvive2under2 · 28/09/2017 13:10

@Rubyshoes2 I'm having the Harmony at 10 weeks. I'm 36. I did it last time and it was hugely helpful for me - appreciate everyone is different though! We actually declined to be told the gender and will do the same this time.
