By here I mean my workplace, not mumsnet.

MissYeti · 19/10/2017 15:23

Whelp will be going to doctors tomorrow to try and get more antisickness tablets, that's twice this week I've had to miss uni lectures and it's just no good! Think its partly down to the sore throat ive got going on, constantly feel like there's something lodged there and its playing havoc with my gag reflex

MissYeti · 19/10/2017 15:26

Twiddler its entirely up to you when you tell them, if you're not comfortable yet then don't feel pressured to! I think there's a limit on when you have to tell them by to get maternity pay and such so I'd check that first but I'm pretty sure it's after 20 weeks

MrsDneedsaB · 19/10/2017 15:38

Twiddler I felt so bad for even leaving it until 12 weeks! But this was partly because I'd just been promoted, they were planning all sorts for my future and had just hired me an assistant.

Depending on your work situation some actually require you to tell as early as possible for health and safety reasons (risk assessments etc.) and others need time to plan your maternity leave etc. My workplace need you to finalise your maternity leave plan and dates 15 weeks before your due date so I pretty much have to tell them by the end of next month when I plan to leave.

Also I'm definitely starting to show now and I wonder how much I'll pop in the next 4 weeks! Must be hard to keep it a secret once you have a definite baby bump!

Sam91TRS15 · 19/10/2017 16:13

Yep sunshine! I've had my sex scan and 16 week appointment so just waiting for my 20 week scan! We have painted the nursery the last couple of days and I have spent all day today cleaning the house like a mad woman! I think the nesting has kicked in a little early! Gonna be twiddling my thumbs for the next 23 weeks now

harrietm87 · 19/10/2017 18:07

twiddler I'm like you - due date is 8 April and I wanted to leave it as long as possible before telling work. I've had 3mcs, and also didn't want to be left out of stuff or treated differently because of it. In the end I told them this week (at 15 weeks) as one of my colleagues had guessed and was gossiping, and it was really stressing me out. I didn't want many people to know before my bosses, so felt like I had to. They were fine though and it's actually been a relief not to have to keep it secret anymore!

JammyC · 19/10/2017 19:10

I have my 12 wk scan tomorrow!! EDD might slip into May so will see what the measurements reckon. Very exciting that people know sex already. I’m still not sure whether to find out or not. We didn’t with DD and enjoyed the surprise.

I’m dithering about how to tell colleagues. Boss knows already but we have a team of around 14 who I haven’t told yet. Last time we happened to have a team meeting the day after my scan so I added it as an AOB item at the end. Was so simple and easy to tell everyone in one go. No such opportunities for a couple of weeks this time so toying with the idea of an email or perhaps just letting it slip out gradually, but don’t like rumour mills! Looking forward to busting out comfy maternity clothes next week as I’m so uncomfortable trying to hold in/hide my growing bump!

Feeling really sick today. Smells are really strong and making me heave. Didn’t get this last time Sad

Gone off food in the evenings too, I think because I’m eating so much in the day to keep nausea at bay.

Thelostsock · 19/10/2017 21:11

I told work because I’m really beginning to show now. They’ve all been surprisingly good about it, but actually I’ve found it difficult! Now it’s out it’s so much easier to be distracted at work, instead of putting it to the back of my mind. It’s going to be a long 6 months from now trying to keep the motivation up to keep going!!!

thecraftyfox · 20/10/2017 00:02

I'm back again after forgetting my login for ages.
Bond and RosesforBadgers I work in Manchester and live out on the border of Rochdale/Calderdale.

Please add my info to the sheet. I'm 37, this is baby 2 and due date is 4/4. I think we'll find out the sex but keep it private. Mainly DH and I cannot agree on any boys names at all and I also have 3 years worth of predominantly girls clothes to potentially get rid.

Still suffering with dreadful nausea although sickness is less frequent now I'm on medication. Highlight was being sick on the stairs on Tuesday morning and also peeing myself.

Finally gave in and ordered some maternity clothes, I've actually lost weight due to sickness but I'm so bloated in the evenings my trousers hurt so I'm looking forward to comfy stretchy waistbands.

Aspenn17 · 20/10/2017 07:07

Just thought I'd let everyone know, Asos have 20% off everything maternity at the moment, think the offer ends today. I ordered a few bits yesterday.

MrsDneedsaB · 20/10/2017 10:45

Amazing, thanks @Aspenn17!!

Sam91TRS15 · 20/10/2017 13:05

@Aspenn17 did you put the 20maternity code into the promo code box? It says it isn't valid when I put it in Sad

MrsDneedsaB · 20/10/2017 13:33

The discount code stopped at 8am Sad bummer

Aspenn17 · 20/10/2017 14:25

Oh no! Sorry :( I should have said something last night, I just presumed when it said 20th it meant end of the day on the 20th. How annoying, sorry!

Sam91TRS15 · 20/10/2017 15:39

Ugh that's frustrating as I webchatted with someone from asos saying their IT team were aware and trying to fix it and it should be on again by tomorrow (even after me mentioning it was to run out today...)..
They usually have promo codes though so will just need to keep an eye out

Sunshinesaz86 · 20/10/2017 18:04

I hope your scan went ok today jammy?

I've got my first consultant appointment Monday then 16 week midwife app Tuesday.

I've been in stretchy jeans since early on as I get massive bloat and that stays until bump arrives which it has now.

Really looking forward to the next 4-6 weeks hoping to start feel some movements! X x

JammyC · 20/10/2017 21:05

Scan went well today! One very wriggly baby who seemingly kept waving at us! EDD now 3rd May so hoping to stay here if that’s ok! Last time DD was early so might technically be an April baby...

Have now told all our friends and family, Just team at work to go. Family seem to be shocked and think I’ve screwed my career which is lovely Angry.

Anyone fancy a go at the nub theory based on my scan?

Jammy the only parent that was happy for us right from the get go was my partners dad...they'll warm up to the idea pretty quickly and your career is certainly not ruined! Loads of people take maternity leave and go on to have very successful careers!!

Also, totally a girl!

MissYeti · 20/10/2017 21:31

@thecraftyfox I'll put you down as yellow when I get round to updating it :)

MrsDneedsaB · 20/10/2017 22:33

I second the guess for girl!

The "you've ruined your career" outlook is so old fashioned, I'm the only one in my family that's actually going to be taking maternity leave and hasn't just quit so they don't really know how it works and are assuming all sorts, also my mum proceeded to tell me all about a program on BBC where the hired maternity cover decided to go on a killing spree and tried to blame it on the lady she was covering 🤦🏼‍♀️ gee thanks mum that's super helpful!

My family have been lovely, it's DHs family that have barely even said congratulations 😒

Jenacles · 20/10/2017 22:44

Aww Harriet, we are due date buddies! 8th April, 2nd child, age 31 from West Midlands Smile

Miss yeti I'm so impressed with your organisation skills

Jenacles · 20/10/2017 22:45

Oh and team yellow!

MissYeti · 21/10/2017 13:27

I believe I'm up to date with the old spreadsheet!

Went to doctors this morning, they gave me another 28 tabs of promethazine so I'm a happy cookie! Was told to just take them when I'm feeling sick though so hopefully I wont need too many

Aspenn17 · 21/10/2017 14:01

Thanks Miss Yeti. And Jammy I would guess girl as well!

Just facetimed my cousin to tell her the news and her response was 'I knew you were going to say you're pregnant because of how bad you're skin is!! It was perfect at your wedding but NOW ....!? ' ☹️ I keep telling myself it doesn't matter how I look and it's just hormones and growing a healthy baby is the most important thing but she's made me feel even more self concious than I was already feeling about it! Anyone got any tips or will nothing work because it's hormonal?

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

MissYeti · 21/10/2017 14:18

Aspenn first of all your cousin is being rude and there's no need for her to say things like that. Second, you're carrying a girl, they steal your beauty (according to the old wives tales)! Third, you're making a tiny human! That's fucking awesome man! Noone should expect you to be perfectly presented 100% of the time. Even if you weren't pregnant no one is perfect 100% of the time!

No skincare regime is guaranteed to help your skin cuz everyone's skin is different. I use a tea tree face wash but my OH swears by just washing with water and then using vitamin e oil on his face. I wouldn't dare put oil on my skin but thats normal. Try a few different things and see what works for you but definitely don't worry about it. You're beautiful no matter what
