Hodgeheg92 I think they generally say just water to start with but I'll be sticking up on infacare in case as i like to use it in my bath and on my step son! I love the smell of it

Mummyme87 · 09/09/2017 11:12

Wash babies in water at least for first couple of months. Avoid perfumed products. Coconut oil is ace for massaging into their skin or putting in the bath

Owl1011 · 09/09/2017 12:32

@hodgeheg92 I'm hoping that I haven't forgotten anything! A few family and friends have said just water at first as babies skin is so sensitive, so I'm arming myself with a top and tail bowl and cotton wool on the advice of my sister! I'm sure eventually they can have baby wash but I guess it also depends on their skin and sensitivity etc?

ndo4000 · 09/09/2017 16:40

I made it!!!!!! 28k and very achy feet! Back home and recovering in the bath!!!!!

MissyJones80s · 09/09/2017 17:09

Well done ndo4000 that's impressive! Bath sounds good to me.

klc75 · 09/09/2017 17:17

Re the sleepyhead @hodgeheg92 did she use for overnight sleeping? Are they safe for that, have googled and some conflicting advice...

Iamchanging · 09/09/2017 17:46

Klc 3 of my friends have had a sleepyhead and all swore by them for both day and night. Just think you are supposed to put them on a firm surface, not on another mattress for instance. I'm definitely getting one after their feedback

hodgeheg92 · 09/09/2017 18:24

@klc75 yep, she had that in her next2me crib, which is what I was thinking of. From what I've researched, they're permeable and so would be okay for overnight sleeping.

Rosehyd2 · 09/09/2017 21:01

I picked up a second hand Next2Me today for £65 from the next village along. I've bought a new mattress and sheets online for it since I got home.
Definitely keep an eye on local selling sites if you want a bargain.
I'll also be getting a sleepyhead for baby too.

Rosehyd2 · 09/09/2017 21:02

@ndo4000 well done, you crazy lady Grin

klc75 · 09/09/2017 21:02

Thanks @hodgeheg92 and @Iamchanging I had thought they were ok then someone said they aren't but lots of people seem to swear by them

Maybebaby2 · 09/09/2017 22:35

Worried and in need of a bit of advice!

I had a 'minor' accident in my car last night (I guess you call it minor if no one was hurt?). I've only been driving 3 weeks and was just getting a little bit more confident then this happened!
Had to pick ds up from cinema, it was dark and raining heavily, not conditions I've ever driven in before. Anway long story but I was hit on passenger side of my car, both cars were only going about 15 - 20mph max so it wasn't a massive hit.

I got out ok felt fine and was able to drive home after we'd exchanged details checked car over etc (there is damage to car but it was still drivable). I thought I was fine, slight pull to shoulder but that is a recurring injury. Today I have been upset and a bit shaky but I thought I was physically ok.

Anyway earlier I was sat on sofa and my pjs suddenly felt very wet. I went to toilet and there was large wet patch so I think I might be leaking a bit of fluid. Something similar happend the other week and I called midwife who advised me to lie down on my side for half an hour with a pad on and see of there was any more fluid when I stood up, which there wasn't. I did the same thing tonight and again nothing, so it might just be the same thing but I'm now convinsing myself that it's because of the bump last night. Should I call hospital tomorrow, do you think they'll want to check me over? Or should I leave it and see how I am?

Iamchanging · 09/09/2017 22:56

Maybe - I'm so sorry, what a scary thing to have happened. I would get checked out if you are at all worried however - and sorry if this is tmi - for the last 5 ish weeks I have had hugely increased levels of discharge and now have to wear a panty liner, but apparently it's very normal in pregnancy. So hopefully it is the same in your case?

Owl1011 · 09/09/2017 22:57

@Maybebaby2 you poor thing, what a horrible experience when you're so new to driving. I would get checked out anyway just to be on the safe side and put your mind at rest, hopefully it will ease any worry you have. It's better to be safe but I'm sure all is fine, especially if midwife wasn't too worried about it previously. Look after yourself as well, take it as easy as you can Flowers

Rosehyd2 · 09/09/2017 23:17

@Maybebaby2 I'd also say there's no harm in getting it checked out. I think the fact it's happened previously suggests it isn't accident related which is a good thing. But no harm in getting a medical opinion again.

Maybebaby2 · 09/09/2017 23:23

Thank you, I'm probably over thinking and everything will be fine. It could possibly be discharge but it's clear and watery, where as mine is usually white and thicker, also sorry if tmi! I guess it could have changed and become more watery now? It just scared me that it happened tonight after the bump yesterday and then I stupidly went on Google and read that all sorts can happen even in the smallest of bumps and that you should get checked over regardless of if you feel fine. I think I might wait till Monday, see how I am tomorrow and if theres any more fluid, because I don't want to make a fuss if its nothing.

Iamchanging · 09/09/2017 23:26

Maybe - just to let you know that mine is also clear and watery now, another pregnancy joy that no one tells you about!

Maybebaby2 · 09/09/2017 23:34

Thanks Iam that's good to know. It's true no one tells you about these changes! Also wouldn't have known to expect that amount, it was like I'd wet myself (I definitely hadn't wet myself!)

Also just want to add that ds was not in the car when I was hit, I was still en route to pick him up. So thankful he wasnt with me, I'd have been a million more times upset if it was!

WLMcI · 10/09/2017 00:47

@ndo well done!!! I did a 30k hike last year and was nearly dead on my feet; can't imagine doing one now!

@Maybebaby I hope you're feeling OK now! I'm sure everything is fine with baby, but it's always good to have the reassurance.

@Owl, just so you know talc is definitely not recommended according to the NHS (it's in the purple book)something to do with respiratory problems. I've heard to not worry about a baby sleeping bag for the first while, at least for most babies, as they're only suitable from 9lbs apparently? Not sure why! I'm planning just to swaddle the kid for the first while and the sleeping bag can come later :) Also M&S does things called "baby bundlers" that are essentially a babygrow with an open elasticated bottom below the feet, which people say make nappy changes much easier than a sleepsuit as you just pull it up rather than undoing all the snaps and gettting baby's legs out and back in every time. I'm not buying a separate moses basket or bassinet at all as everyone I know says it's a waste of moneyour pram has an excellent mattress in the carrycot, and there's always the actual cot to lay them in to sleep. My friend who has a 6 month old uses a next 2 me crib and likes it a lot; she hated the sleepyhead though--different strokes! :)

Waitingonasmile · 10/09/2017 08:00

How scary maybebaby. I'm sure everything fine but definitely get checked out.

WLMcl that's funny most people said it was a waste, I wouldn't have been without my Moses basket or crib. Moses basket for sleeping in the living room during the day and crib in bedroom at night. The pram I found easier to keep in the boot of the car unless using it. We didn't use the cot until about 7 months but he was pretty tiny.

Owl1011 · 10/09/2017 08:47

@WLMcI that'll teach me to use google for lists, definitely crossing off talc and will be doing more research! Feeling totally clueless at the moment Confused Thank you for the advice though it's really useful. I've been looking into the next to me cribs for our bedroom, good to know your friend liked hers but I've heard varying opinions. Didn't think this shopping list would be so hard!

21 weeks today - Been feeling a bit of movement this last week which has been reassuring, but haven't felt much the last 24 hours so naturally starting to worry again Sad

WLMcI · 10/09/2017 09:19

@Owl I know, I felt a bit clueless too so I read the whole pregnancy book (while constantly crying over the babies in the pictures--hormones lol! Grin). Did you get one at booking in or 12 week scan?
There's a good bit in there about step-by-step bathing baby as well. It'll all be covered in the antenatal classes I'm doing anyway, and if you're doing any it should be as well, so we'll be more accomplished by the time the tots arrive! If the next2me isn't suitable for you, you can also look at Snuzpod, which is on a rocking base, and the top lifts off to carry around as a bigger version of a moses basket (the next2me doesn't have a removable basket and isn't meant to be moved around during the day). Plenty of these type of things on gumtree second-hand, although you're recommended to buy a fresh mattress!

Owl1011 · 10/09/2017 09:43

@WLMcI I had the book at booking in but only read the pregnancy section so far! Think I'll make myself a nice decaf cuppa later and settle down to read it whilst the weather is bad today! Brew thank you for being so helpful, most friends and family say 'you just know' or 'instincts kick in'...Confused

hodgeheg92 · 10/09/2017 09:44

maybebaby2 I think I'd get it checked out. And take it easy the next few days, a bump in the car really makes you ache for a little while!

owl1011 Don't worry, I feel the same! I cried about my list cos it's just so confusing. And when you've made the list, you've then got to choose which version of everything!

I looked at the snuzpod in Mothercare, thinking it was great that the bassinet was movable. It is if you've got strong muscles! It weighs 18kg on its own. No way I'd be moving that regularly.

Fredthefrog · 10/09/2017 10:09

Not been on for a bit due to going back to school madness but I see lots has been happening . Congrats to all those positive scans.
@shaan1329 what a horrible thing to happen. Hope they are able to help at CAB. Sending good wishe's your way. Hopefully something has to go your way now.
@ndo4000 you are a stronger woman than me. Well done!
I have also has the sleepyhead recommended to me by a couple of people so going to look in to it. We already have a crib (mine from when I was a baby) just need a new matress but I've heard they are not a must have due to expense and if you have a big baby they may not be in it long.
I find the shopping lists scary as it makes it more real and I think argh I will be responsible for a lifew. I've had to leave a couple of baby shops due to suddenly feeling a bit overwhelmed. Can't believe we're half way there (or more )!
