We had our third antenatal class today. I missed last week, which was apparently the one about how giving birth works (soooo not important, right?) and this week was about what happens if it goes wrong. It was ok, the midwife went through the various interventions, and how and when they come into play, but when she got the forceps out I just went absolutely cold. They really gave me the horrors. So I've told my DP that under no circumstances are they to use those on our baby, and it's going in the birthing plan too. Am I being silly?

Owl1011 · 24/10/2017 21:34

@Gemxo I've got my heart set on a silver cross as well, we haven't actually started shopping around but I think we're going for the maxi cosi car seat and adaptors to fit it for the pram.

@rememberpurpleronnie was told last week that baby was breach, currently 27 weeks so plenty of time to turn!

@katmarie Not silly at all! I haven't seen them in real life but just from looking into it I really don't want forceps if it can be avoided, I really don't like the thought of them and would panic they'd harm baby Confused

I really feel like bump has properly popped in the last few days, people are finally starting to notice I'm pregnant now! (Excuse the hotel room setting, currently working away from home!)

@Gemxo try venicci mine looks fab x

klc75 · 24/10/2017 21:41

If anyone is interested the pink petals jumperoo is selling for £19.99 on the studio website is £79.99 in Argos! Bargain, I've just ordered one as too good to miss

rememberpurpleronnie · 24/10/2017 21:47

@katmarie I had forceps with my last birth and it was no problem at all, I couldn’t really see what was happening and to be honest I didn’t really care! I think these things are less scary when you are in the situation- you just want the baby to arrive safely.

Glad I’m not the only one with an upside down baby! GrinDefinitely plenty of time for them all to turn!

hanna87 · 25/10/2017 08:26

@Gemxo we ordered the icandy apple to pair for £425.. came with out the carseat..but good deal all in all as it included an icandy footmuff n paraol and bassinet..

flossyfloss · 25/10/2017 17:30

Hi ladies Smile

I have set my Mat leave start date as just a couple of days before Xmas eve. I’ll be 37 weeks.

I am really really struggling already Sad I’m so so tired already Sad (I work full time) I’m starting to feel really overwhelmed - I’m hauling myself out of bed every morning and feel by 3pm I’m so unproductive.

If I start earlier at the start of December it means being really low on money for an extra 3 weeks Sad I’ve worked everything out as it is down to the penny. I have no annual leave left that I can use as our year runs from jan-Dec.

What do you think I should do?

flossyfloss · 25/10/2017 17:32

I pressed post to soon!

I got myself in a state a bit earlier - I just cried I’m so stressed out, my other kids are stressing me and I feel really fragile mentally Sad

Disinterested · 25/10/2017 18:09

Since my diagnosis I have been refusing to buy any baby things as felt like I am jinxing it. I have, however, given my head a wobble and realised that with proper management my risks for stillbirth are no more than a normal pregnancy and have told myself to stop being so silly!

So we have ordered this tonight Grin
www.babysecurity.co.uk/venicci-pure-3-in-1-travel-system-denim-grey-white.html

He hasn't stopped moving for 3 days and it's so reassuring to feel. I have more bloods, doppler study and a consultation tomorrow so I'm praying my bile levels have stayed low again.

@flossyfloss I have no advice, just sympathy. Flowers I don't know how you ladies are still working full time.xx

Rosehyd2 · 25/10/2017 18:26

What antenatal classes are you all doing?

There's only the NCT ones around here but the nearest one is well over half an hour away - I just don't think I'll be realistically staying in touch with people I meet there if it's an hour round trip everytime.
There's a private course about 15-20 mins away for £200 but it's only six sessions, one of which I can't make, and one of which is just for dads.. So 4 really. I'm not sure that's worth £200? Or is the information alone worth it?

Interested to hear what you're all doing.

Also, when do we write a birth plan?

Waitingonasmile · 25/10/2017 18:36

Aww flossyfloss sorry you are having a hard time. Totally understand about getting stressed with other kids. I only have one 2 year old and I'm getting impatient with him when I'm tired. If you are really struggling before mat leave I would see GP and see if you can get signed off. Flowers

Glad you are feeling more positive disinterested Smile. Hope next results are good.

Rosehyd2 we don't have any classes here so I didn't do any with last pregnancy or this one. I do wish I had had some sort of advice with breastfeeding right enough, as I had no idea about how to position baby to latch on.

Waitingonasmile · 25/10/2017 18:42

Just worked out baby will be removed either 11 weeks 2 days or 11 weeks 1 day from today! If they are not already out by then of course. The end is in sight!

ForumUsername · 25/10/2017 18:46

@Rosehyd2 my advice is based on being here in Ireland so might be useless to you but maybe there is similar near you? Writing it all down it looks load but as a FTM and being an insane planner I wanted all the info

I’ve been doing a local pregnancy yoga class every other week
It’s ran by a antenatal/GentleBirth instructors so is more than just yoga
It’s 2 hours and we do some yoga discuss a pregnancy related topic, chat amongst ourselves and rehearse some birth positions and breathing
It’s really good and only €10 a class

I’ve done a GentleBirth weekend workshop which although expensive (€300) I got so much out of it! It’s about being positive and informed of all that happens throughout birth so you can stay positive and calm no matter what happens
Really likes how informative it was on the health system and how to express what we want when dealing with pushy midwives or doctors

I’ve booked into do an antenatal day course in the hospital I’ll be giving birth in
Mainly booked this to see the delivery suites etc but they also go through admittance proceeders, first weeks of minding baby etc

I may also look at a few breast feeding groups near by and try a couple of coffee mornings to see if any would suit me. Kinda frightened they may all be a bit too full on for me.

Birth plan wise, I was told to call is a birth preference list instead as this makes you seem more open minded and doesn’t annoy the medical people as much.. apparently
I’ve been discussing it with DH and plan on being it up with my consultant around 32 weeks but having it written down before then just incase

ForumUsername · 25/10/2017 18:52

Sorry for such a long last post ladies

@flossyfloss no real advice for you but I do have sympathy
I don’t have any other children so have no idea how those of you with them are coping let alone working too!!
I’m due to start maternity leave Jan 1st (10 Friday’s till then!)
I’m so tired most days getting out of bed is hard and making through the whole day is really difficult
I have no idea how I’ll last as long as I plan, I think I may ask to work from home 1 day a week in December

Can you do something like that?

Also anyone else losing patience with people? I have to really bite my tongue when I’m asked something stupid! I’d normally be very approachable and had no problem showing people how to do things etc
Not anymore... think it may be the tiredness

MrsPworkingmummy · 25/10/2017 19:49

@Gemxo This is our 2nd baby so we are using our travel system from last time. It's one I would NOT recommend so you might want to strike it off your list! We've got a Stokke Xplory. It's great as it's higher up than normal travel systems, but is very heavy, it isn't particularly easy to put up/down and you need a lot of space in the back of the car when it's down. They're also quite expensive too. I wouldn't buy it again.

@Rosehyd2 We went to antenatal classes at our local hospital, as well as NCT classes with DD1. The NCT classes really were fab, and to me, were completely worth the money. The NHS class tended to focus on pain relief only, but the NCT class also looked at natural methods, caring for a newborn and the impact of a baby on a relationship. The best thing about it was meeting the other mums, who I'm still in touch with 6 years later. I'm not doing NCT this time around as I feel pretty confident about labour/birth after having such a great experience last time. We are however, going to the NHS ones as I'm giving birth in a different hospital and want to familiarise myself with their birthing unit.

@flossyfloss you have my full sympathy and are not alone. I work full time and am already shattered. I teach and am finding it difficult being on my feet all day, then get awful back pain when i'm marking. I'm not due to start my maternity not until 17/01 (due on 27th) but I might request to leave earlier depending on how I'm feeling by December. Just trying to hold out as long as possible as can only afford to take the 6 months off after so trying to time it so my maternity runs concurrently with the summer holidays.

I have written my birth plan, but only because I am convinced i'll come earlier and wanted to do it while I'm off on half term and have the time to do it. I've just rejigged what I had written last time and have made it more succinct.

ScotsLamb · 25/10/2017 20:43

@flossyfloss sending lots of positive vibes your way. I felt the same about 3 weeks ago when I was 28 weeks. I've upped my iron tablets and it's made me feel so much better.

I would also echo a previous post of speak to your GP. They can sign you off for a few weeks to get your strength up and allow you to rest a bit then go back to work once you are feeling better. That is if you get decent sick pay from your work.

Have you had a risk assessment with your work? Can you say to them that you are struggling with workload and want to avoid being signed off and see if they can do anything?

Fredthefrog · 25/10/2017 20:53

@gemxo we bought a bugaboo bee (small flat up 2 flights) and got a good deal on it and a maxi cos car seat at the baby show. Not that cheap though . Fingers crossed for another deal soon for you. Baby stuff seems expensive need to really have an eye to the budget.

@rosehyd we are booked for he nct in December. Everyone has recommended it to me but no idea what to expect. The NHS classes are tricky in my area as the are at 1pm on Friday so I need time off but as a teacher that is unlikely. I haven't written a birth plan yet but have read the positive birth book which has a pictorial system whicheck looks good as I know midwives and doctors are busy and may not want to read much. It a good book if you haven't read it.

@flossyfloss I can just stand in awe of you guys with children already. I was feeling fine but over did it last week and came home every day with horrible aches and pains and bone tired. If you need to go off earlier you may just need to.

ChocoMunchi · 25/10/2017 21:14

Hey @flossyfloss I totally feel where u are coming from and last week I was feeling exactly the same. Felt like I just didn’t have the energy to do everything, 3 children and home working full-time. The diagnosis of GD nearly tipped me over the edge.

So I had a meeting with my manager and fortunately they were very understanding. Didn’t want me to go off sick so I’ve arranged a bit of flexible working and I’m able to go into work a bit later and do some work from home. It’s definitely helped and has just given me a little bit of breathing space.

Also made me realise I don’t have to continually have to put on a brave face and be superwoman doing everything.

We just bought a quinny - it wasn’t cheap but came as a special offer package with everything car seat, carry cot, pram and changing bag, footmuff.

Rosehyd2 · 25/10/2017 21:30

@ForumUsername You sound so prepared, I'm Envious! I did enquire at two yoga places here but both pregnancy classes are full :( There is an antenatal Zumba class but I definitely don't have the energy for anything that energetic!
I think I'll mention it to the midwife next week and see what she recommends. I just want to meet people really and find out some more information.

flossyfloss · 25/10/2017 21:48

Thanks everyone - I can’t go off sick as only get SSP and just couldn’t afford it.

I had hyperemesis at the start and they were so so flexible and understanding I feel like it will be cheeky of me to start asking for more flexibility now Sad

I’m going to get this weekend out of the way and see how I’m feeling next week - if I still feel the same I’ll ask about possibly homeworking once a week etc

Thanks xx
