@maybebaby2 id go for a check just for peach of mind or you will keep worrying. Hooefly nothing but it is scary.

Waitingonasmile · 10/09/2017 10:36

I think instincts do kick in with a newborn! Everything is so repetitive that after a few days you're a pro. It's now I am completely at sea with a 2 year old I have no idea how to discipline or get to sleep in his own bed. The baby days are completely exhausting but lovely and snuggly and simple. Others might disagree right enough. I can't wait for baby cuddles.Grin

Maybebaby2 · 10/09/2017 11:43

Thanks everyone and I'm sorry to go on about this and if it's tmi but writing it on here helps me to not panic.
I've had more fluid/discharge today. Was sitting down and when I stood up I felt it all coming out like I was weeing. I was wearing a pad so could see what it was and I think it's discharge but it's very watery and there's so much of it the pad was soaked. I'm going to call midwife tomorrow. If it is just discharge I'm going to have to wear pads all the time because it's as if I've wet myself. I read that they can tell if it's discharge or amniotic fluid by swabbing it so they might want me to go in just to check.
Uggh what a weekend I feel so stressed which I know won't be helping.

Waitingonasmile · 10/09/2017 12:08

Maybebaby phone NHS24 and see what they say. I think,if possible, getting checked today would be better to put your mind at rest.

MummyM33 · 10/09/2017 12:28

@Maybebaby2 whilst I'm sure everything is fine with your baby it's always best to get checked. I think you should ring the number on your Maternity book and go in and get t checked out at the hospital today. It's best to get anything unusual checked and to put your mind at rest x

SJ1989 · 10/09/2017 12:36

@maybebaby2 I hope your ok that just of been so scary if you are worried get checked even if it's just to reduce your anxiety levels!

I didn't get a purple book :(

Maybebaby2 · 10/09/2017 12:50

Thanks I've calmed down a bit now. I called community midwives office but its closed. I dont want to call the triage unit because I think its for labour related concerns, also don't want to call nhs24 as I know they always err on the side of caution and will tell me to go in and I really don't think I need to today. It's just a pain with it being Sunday so I will wait till tomorrow and speak to midwife first thing when office is open and I probably just need a bit of reassurance from them. Thanks again for the reassurance and advice everyone xx

Seven0fNine · 10/09/2017 13:02

ahhh no maybe hope you are OK.

I think they say fluid has a particular smell....but I don't know what that smell is. Also is it a bit weird to smell your pants? Anyway, rest lots today. I've had a few incidents in my car over the years and it always makes you feel achy the next day never mind being preggers too xxx

ChocoMunchi · 10/09/2017 14:38

Hi @Maybebaby2 if your having that much discharge is filling a pad I'd say it best to get it checked out. I'm sure triage is for all out of hours pregnancy related concern not just labour. I really don't think they will mind you contacting them and would rather reassure you than have you worrying another night.

I'm sure it's nothing to worry about but best just to get checked and they can do a swab if needed.

Hope everything is ok xx rest and take care of yourself xx

SpringChicken26 · 10/09/2017 17:00

There is test strips you can buy I think from boots that you leave in the pad and they can tell if it's amniotic fluid or not seen them advertised the other day !
Does anyone know when we should be monitoring movement ? I have anterior placenta and have only felt movements in last week or so but last two days baby hasn't been very active only the odd few kicks then I find myself wondering if I just imagined them ! Not really sure baby's routine yet so not sure if it's out of the ordinary or not ?

Mummyme87 · 10/09/2017 17:04

maybe watery discharge is normal and some women do need to wear a pad for the whole pregnancy. I wear a pantyliner all the time and when I don't my underwear is really wet (tmi). I get the thick white discharge but also clear wet.
If you are worried call delivery suite triage as this is the concerns for them. If you think your waters have broken it is a labour ward concern... I am a midwife based in delivery suite and I speak to many women with similar concerns. Please call if you are genuinely worried. Don't bother with NHS24, I don't believe they have any knowledge on pregnancy

Mummyme87 · 10/09/2017 17:05

Oh and yes there are pads now in boots.. amniosense I believe. About £30 for 12 so fairly pricey but apparently change colour of wet with amniotic fluid

Mummyme87 · 10/09/2017 17:06

springchicken I have anterior placenta, 22weeks. Felt movement at 16weeks but very erratic and sporadic since. Regular pattern is normal from 28weeks

Iamchanging · 10/09/2017 18:25

I'm contrast Spring I also have an anterior placenta and am 21 weeks today, and still haven't felt any movement that I can be certain of. Trying not to worry!

Iamchanging · 10/09/2017 18:26

In contrast, not I'm!

Maybebaby2 · 10/09/2017 19:10

Thank you again to everyone for advice, I really appreciate it. I didn't think my waters had broken, I'd heard that you can slowly leak amniotic fluid without the waters being broken and that's what I was worried was happening. I've not had any more today but will still call in morning just for peace of mind. I'm pretty sure now it is just discharge, and that I'd got myself in a panic because if the car accident. I'll also get some of those test strips even if they are a bit expensive I would like to have them again for peace of mind if it happens again.

Mummyme87 · 10/09/2017 19:22

maybe you can't leak amniotic fluid if waters haven't broken... a leak whatever leak would be waters breaking.
Good idea having the odd in at home if you need some reassurance. I have two in my drawers from HCP bounty bags

Waitingonasmile · 10/09/2017 19:26

Is anyone else whose had a previous c section finding their scar really itchy!!?? I can't stop scratching!! Blush

Maybebaby2 · 10/09/2017 19:27

Oh I didn't realise that Mummyme, I'd been told you can have a small tear and slowly leak without your waters actually breaking. Feel much more reasurred now you have told me that, thank you x

Ruthcarr1990 · 10/09/2017 21:39

@Waitingonasmile yes!!!! It's sooo irritating!! Nothing seems to help it!!! Xxx

wapphighwood · 11/09/2017 07:21

Any one else having really vivid dreams lately? Not sure if it's pregnancy or because of some changes to dc1 childcare and my work arrangements but they have been so real and so very random/nonsensical!

peachgreen · 11/09/2017 10:55

Hi all, just catching up after a few days away!

@Waitingonasmile ALL my skin is itchy (though not bad enough to be PUPP) but my laparotemy scar is the worst! Soooooo annoying. Aloe Vera helps a bit, as does using coconut oil every night.

@Maybebaby2 I worried about the same thing so went to EOU - they were lovely about it. You could always do that if you're still worried.

@SpringChicken26 I think you're only supposed to monitor movement from 28 weeks. We felt our first kicks last week (when I was 20+5) which was amazing as I have an anterior placenta. They were even strong enough for DH to feel! Now I feel them maybe once every second day? It's scary on the days when I don't feel them but so lovely when I do. Looking forward to being able to feel them regularly.

millsbynight · 11/09/2017 12:38

Ladies I need your help!!

So I've been offered a better paid role at work as the woman currently doing the job is now on long term sick leave. They know I'll only be able to do the job till December as I go on maternity leave BUT it's full time with an extra hour added to my work day. I currently work 4 days a week and finish at 4. This job will be 5 days a week finishing at 5. In terms of added responsibility it's not that much more stressful than what I currently do.

The job will be paying an extra £600 a month AFTER tax. This is a lot of money to us right now and I'm thinking of sucking it up till I go on mat leave and save the extra money. But will I regret it?? Will I be very tired and not cope? Any other full-timers out there that could shed some light?

After school care for DS is sorted anyway as he goes to private school and they have plenty of after school programs plus MIL is around when we need her for an hour or two. So that's not an issue.

Maybebaby2 · 11/09/2017 12:40

Just to update I called midwife this morning who said to call triage. They have advised me to monitor it wearing a pad and if it happens again to ring back and they'll have me come in. She did think that it could be caused by the stress of having the bump in car on Friday and said to relax today, I'm off work luckily so can do that. Haven't had anything since yesterday morning so already feeling better about it.
peachgreen it's good to know I'm not the only one who's been worried by this... if that make sense, I don't mean it's good that you were worried but knowing I'm not the only one is reassuring! Was it the out of hours you went to, I'm not sure what EOU is?

peachgreen · 11/09/2017 12:48

@millsbynight I work fulltime and will until I go on mat leave in December (at 36 weeks). Lots of women do it and cope - I'm sure you would. It's just figuring out if the extra money is worth more to you than the day off. Personally I'd do it - essentially it's like you're being paid an extra £600 a month for 6 days work!

@Maybebaby2 Yes I just called the emergency midwife line and they told me to come in to their triage service (EOU). Was scanned within 20 minutes to check fluid levels etc. Hope all is okay and you feel better soon.
