Sorry for the long post! This baby is turning me grey early before my time 🙈 went to the clinic yesterday afternoon because I had a lot of movement Tuesday evening, and I mean LOADS more than usual, then hardly anything at all since. Midwife said to come in, she checked heartbeat and measurements. Heartbeat good but bump measuring small (will be 27 weeks tomorrow) so sent down for a scan. Baby actually measuring just below the 90th centile despite a small bump 🙈 all looks ok but had a very moody sonographer having to scan me on a Friday afternoon, I felt like such an overly paranoid nuisance! SadAbsolutely lovely midwife though, she actually booked me in with a consultant the week after next and said although I'm not 28 weeks yet may have more regular monitoring if baby doesn't settle into a regular movement pattern. Oh and baby is also breech at the moment, hoping it doesn't stay that way! Feel very lucky for such a great midwifery team Smile

DH currently playing U2 to bump (his all time favourite band) and baby seems to be enjoying it, such a relief to feel some normal movement again! Hope everyone is well Smile

klc75 · 22/10/2017 07:34

I had loads of movement all day yesterday @Owl1011 is it something to worry about then or just if they go quiet after? I am 29 weeks.

Owl1011 · 22/10/2017 08:47

@klc75 I think if baby is moving regularly then it's ok, she didn't say that the episode of lots of movement was anything to worry about. It's just because I went from that to literally nothing and started to worry as they drill into you the importance of movement (plus I think I'm a bit of a natural worrier!) Smile

millsbynight · 22/10/2017 09:02

@Owl1011 how far behind was your bump measuring? I saw my midwife yesterday who measured me and said I was 28 weeks according to the measuring tape when I should have been closer to 30 but that 2-3 weeks either side wasn’t anything to be concerned about.

Owl1011 · 22/10/2017 09:19

@millsbynight she didn't say how many weeks but on my chart the fundal height is plotted well below the 10th centile. She didn't say she was worried as in her experience it's normal with women who are slim (Hmm feeling anything but at the moment!) to have a smaller bump and everyone is so different. I think I just got lucky with having the scan that day because the hospital was so quiet on Friday afternoon!

Hope my post doesn't make anyone worry Blush

@Owl1011 @klc75 I had something similar the other night and panicked too! Loads and loads of movement then quiet for half an hour or so but then baby did go back to normal movements and haven't had that again since. The triage unit was great at reassuring me and said they would get me in for monitoring if it happened again, fortunately it didn't. I had midwife the next day anyway and heartbeat was stomping away and baby seemed happy in there :)

I think the general rule is to watch out for any changes to baby's usual pattern, particularly if it slows down or stops but if you're ever concerned about anything just call the midwife and they can put your mind at rest. I felt silly for calling but felt so much better having spoken to someone.

hanna87 · 22/10/2017 10:17

Thanks for the list mills** ! how many maternity pads do you reckon? Don’t want to buy crazy amounts!

Also, does anyone find bump monitoring arbitrary? 1st time midwive really had a good feel of pubic bone and for top of uterus, measured exactly the right no of weeks..this time different midwife just measured from the top of my pants to top of bump (just below bra line) and moved me up a centile or two. Just feel that the whole thing is reliant on the time/effort they put in..

Wasnt too impressed this week anyway as the same midwife said only count 10 movements over 24 hours anf if you have that there’s no need to worry..how old is this advice?!?!!!

Isabeau1980 · 22/10/2017 10:45

RoseHyd2 They're called floaters and definitely something to mention to your doctor. They were something I was pestered about when I was in hospital with high blood pressure at the end of my last pregnancy.

hanna87 Someone, on Mn I think, suggested incontinence pants instead of disposable knickers and maternity pads. I'm planning on trying that this time since it strikes me as easier to only throw away 2 thing.

Fredthefrog · 22/10/2017 11:35

@millsbynight how many of the sleeps it's vests are you planning to get? Can't decide how many it will need .

Lenska999 · 22/10/2017 15:31

Here's a question ladies, this is my 2nd baby. I'm on a 'red' pathway as I'm having an elcs but I'm thinking that my antenatal care has been lacking. Saw midwife at booking appt, had 12 week scan (no midwife), saw consultant/midwife at 16 weeks, had 20 week scan (no midwife) and next appt is at 34 weeks to talk date for elcs - is that normal?

Hope everyone is good!

hanna87 · 22/10/2017 15:40

Thanks isa sounds like a sensible idea!

klc75 · 22/10/2017 15:44

Thanks @Owl1011 and @klaw87 think everything is just a worry ...

klaw87 · 22/10/2017 18:37

It really is @klc75, it's all so new to me so I'm constantly wondering if everything is normal and okay and that's with a relatively easy pregnancy so far!

I'm really struggling with braxton hicks at the moment, I'm fine as long as I'm relaxing with my feet up but the minute I'm out and about walking anywhere it's just constant, finding it so uncomfortable and getting very frustrated that I can't be buzzing around like I'm used to! Also feeling very hormonal and have cried lots this week - gah!

Owl1011 · 22/10/2017 18:47

This might be a stupid question but what do braxton hicks feel like? Is it just a tightening or is there any pain/discomfort anywhere? Don't know whether I've had any or not! Totally clueless Confused

Went to my best friends baby shower this afternoon which was lovely and made me very excited seeing all the lovely baby things, I need to get shopping soon!

klaw87 · 22/10/2017 19:03

@Owl1011 I get a really tight band across the middle of my bump and my bump also sticks out on one side, looks very odd! It's not painful but is getting much more uncomfortable as time goes on for me. I tend to get them when I'm walking or active in general, which isn't great as my job is very active and on my feet a lot as I work in school. Even today just walking round a shopping centre was a bit of a task! When I'm relaxed it's not too bad. Getting a bit fed up with them now 😩

Mummyme87 · 22/10/2017 20:10

lenska you’re missing your 28week appt. I am on 2nd baby, high risk consultant led care due to complex delivery last time.
Booking at 8weeks, scan 12weeks, 16weeks mw, 22weeks scan, 26weeks GTT, 28weeks mw (for routine bloods and paperwork stuff), 34weeks consultant, 36weeks scan and mw appt, 40weeks mw/consultant.

Went to baby show today. Lots of bargains. Got the tutti bambini for £145 and sleepyhead with patterned cover on for £105 plus lots of other things

WLMcI · 22/10/2017 20:11

Oh I joined the pregnancy insomnia club early too! For months it's been a pattern: I sleep great for 1 week, then the next week I fall asleep fine but then wake in the middle of the night and lie awake for hours. Perhaps it definitely has something to do with the fact that we are STILL living with my in-laws and the ground floor of our house is STILL an unlivable work site with no plaster, no radiators, no flooring, no lighting and no kitchen, and I'm due in 9 weeks...that stress couldn't possibly be keeping me awake nights, could it?! Grin On the plus side, I am getting my Emma's diary and Bounty vouchers fulfilled tomorrow so I can at least pack my hospital bag, and I've ordered a bunch of newborn basics from Sainsbury's today. It's hard to stop once you start shopping baby clothes so I'm pretty proud of only spending £40! Grin

Had a wee scare a couple days ago; I've had Braxton Hicks for a week or 2 but didn't realise what they were, and on Thursday my SPD was way worse, I felt nauseous and had shooting pains across my abdomen, and had backache. I was worried about early labour so I went to fetal assessment on my midwife's advice. They monitored me and the baby and decided it was just a combination of the Braxton Hicks, plus indigestion, plus intense growing pains (which have always been on my sides before, never across the front). And the backache is unsurprising considering the contorted position I have to sleep in to avoid heartburn! Very relieved that baby is chugging away and growing like mad in there, with no plans to emerge yet...

Owl1011 · 22/10/2017 20:41

@klaw87 that sounds really familiar, I've had something similar a few times but just thought it was baby in a weird position!

@WLMcI that sounds scary but glad you and baby are all ok!

Waitingonasmile · 22/10/2017 21:43

@Lenska999 I'm also second baby and classed as "high risk"/red pathway and I've had appointment every 4 weeks since 8 weeks. That's to continue until 32 weeks and then it might go to every 2 weeks depending on BP etc. That's not including scans btw as I didn't see midwife/consultant after them.

Seems like you'll have a big gap between appointments.

Insomnia is bad here too Sad. Amount of Gaviscon I'm drinking during the night is ridiculous!!!

Lenska999 · 23/10/2017 07:03

Thanks waiting and mummy seems like there's a missing link somewhere for me then.

Mummyme87 · 23/10/2017 07:23

lenska I would give your community midwives team a call and find out about your 28week appt... maybe some miscommunication

Lenska999 · 23/10/2017 09:05

I know I really should mummy but have been so busy with work recently that it's been left behind. I'm now 30+3, had tried to call twice a few weeks ago but could never get hold of midwife. Got a rare day off today so I'll maybe make an effort to call again today.

millsbynight · 23/10/2017 09:20

fredthefrog I got the bodysuits and sleepsuits from Mothercare, the bodysuits come in packs of 7 so I got 2 of those and the sleepsuits come in packs of 3 and I got 2 of those as well (for each size).

hanna I had retained placenta with DS so I was bleeding A LOT as my body was trying to get rid of all the leftover bits and had to have an ERPC a week or so after the birth. They did a pretty good job with the ERPC so didn't bleed much thereafter and was wearing normal sanitary pads for maybe 2 weeks after that from light bleeding so I don't know what's 'normal', I might stock up enough for 4 weeks worth though.

Maybebaby2 · 23/10/2017 14:33

Missed my 28 week appointment today, blaming it on lack of sleep/baby brain! Luckily midwife rang and said she's booking me in for next week because I should have had bloods taken today.

I could have done with seeing her today because I'm feeling a bit fed up at the moment. I've not slept for days, I've got really crampy and restless legs and I'm having a lot Braxton hicks throughout the day. My stomach is feeling very tight pretty much all the time and it makes it difficult to move about. The shape of it changes so I know it's Braxton hicks rather than that tight stretching feeling when having a growth spurt. Also baby is wriggling and kicking so much that it actually hurts at times, is anyone else experiencing this?
