Anomaly scan today at 5.30... I am so nervous!

Maybebaby2 · 11/09/2017 12:58

mills is the job just until you go off on maternity or will it continue when you come back? If it's just till you go off I'd not hesitate to do it if it's continuing when you come back then I can't really advise what to do. My own experience is that when ds was younger I was working full time and found it too much so reduced my hours, I was single at the time which made it harder to work full time. Since then I've remained part time and personally wouldn't increase my hours after having this baby but only based on my previous experience. You might not find it difficult at all and it might be the best option for you, we're all different so its hard to say how you might find it. Could you take it on and then reduce hours at a later date of it does prove difficult?

Sybarite85 · 11/09/2017 13:29

@millsbynight I can't speak from personal experience as I work approx 50 hours a week shift work so prob have a skewed perception of working while pregnant! However, I would say that the thing that makes my standard 10.5 hour day totally manageable (and continued to be for colleagues later on in pregnancy) is getting decent food/drink breaks. So provided your employer respects your need to actually take 30 mins to have lunch while not in a meeting etc and you perhaps have the opportunity for a couple of hot drinks during the day I would have thought you'd be fine. You prob go home and work your backside off doing chores in that extra hour at the moment anyway so it might actually be easier, provided you don't still try to do those! (E.g £30 a week spent on a cleaner for a couple of hours or sending your ironing out would still leave you in profit!)

ElleMcElle · 11/09/2017 14:01

Hope you're all doing well! Just wondering how many of you have met 'your' midwife? I'm at UCH in London and have seen a different midwife every time so far - I don't know if I actually have a dedicated, named midwife. I realise that I can't guarantee who will deliver my baby as it depends what time the baby comes - but I had always imagined that I would see the same person for most of my antenatal appointments, so I get to know them as I go along?

peachgreen · 11/09/2017 14:14

Good luck @Disinterested - let us know how it goes!

Mummyme87 · 11/09/2017 14:53

I think named midwives are few and far between in London elle

Mummyme87 · 11/09/2017 14:53

PGP is killing me right now!!

millsbynight · 11/09/2017 15:25

Thanks ladies! Will speak with DH tonight about it but I think I'll take it. Especially as they said my new mat pay will be based on the new role's salary rather than mine which is too good to pass up! @Maybebaby2 it will only be till December then when I come back I'll go back to my current role which I love.

You're absolutely right @Sybarite85 ! With the extra money I can definitely afford a cleaner Grin Looking forward to that!

@ElleMcElle I think in the NHS you'll only ever have a team of midwives, not one specific one. But that might depend on where you live.

OP posts:
ElleMcElle · 11/09/2017 15:48

Yes - I'm starting to realise that! I don't mind too much as everyone I've seen has been great so far - it's just not how I thought it would work!

Maybebaby2 · 11/09/2017 16:30

In that case mills I'd definitely take it up, too good an offer not too! Smile

Victoriaaaaaaaa · 11/09/2017 16:41

Anyone else fainted during pregnany? I'm 21 weeks and fainted in a department store last Saturday! Managed to tell hubby I didn't feel very well and he managed to catch me as I fainted and took the brunt of the fall! My bum hurt though! From what I've read it's common to faint in the second trimester? Baby girl kicking and moving as usual thank god!

Waitingonasmile · 11/09/2017 17:08

I would definitely take the job millsbynight! Sounds like great timing before mat leave.

Victoriaaa that must have been frightening. I never have, but I know a colleague who fainted throughout her 3 pregnancies.

peachgreen · 11/09/2017 17:29

I've got my first active birthing / pregnancy yoga class tonight and I'm bricking it! Not my usual cup of tea. Anyone had any experience?

@Victoriaaaaaaaa I almost did but managed to get some sugar in my beforehand - it was definitely a blood sugar thing.

hodgeheg92 · 11/09/2017 17:37

@Victoriaaaaaaaa I haven't but I have had dizzy spells if I get up too quickly. Could it be to do with your blood pressure?

@peachgreen I've been going to yoga for a few weeks now and I love it! We talk about everyone's pregnancy experiences so far and ask any questions before doing lots of breathing through our yoga. It's so relaxing! And I'm finding it really beneficial as a first time mum to hear how everyone else (most much further along) is doing.

Someone mentioned dreams on the last page - been having very vivid, usually not pleasant, dreams for a few months. Usually involving some sort of disaster that makes me wake up upset. I think it's a pregnancy side effect to do with hormones.

klaw87 · 11/09/2017 17:55

Hey everyone - I've been off here for a bit as been back at school and knackered but have just caught up!

@Victoriaaaaaaaa could be your blood pressure is a bit low, mine is at the moment and midwife said I would have to be careful of dizzy spells and fainting - it's common at this stage of pregnancy I think though so just try and make sure you're well hydrated and eating enough and keep an eye on it.

@peachgreen I've been going to a pregnancy / birthing yoga too - I really like all the gentle stretches and the breathing techniques etc, I find the meditation sections a bit much for my tastes (it's different to normal yoga meditation that I've done before - lots of visualising my birth canal opening 😬😬) but I just ignore those bits - each to their own though some others love all of it :) definitely think it's worth doing for the rest of it though

Also re the dreams someone mentioned - yes!! Lots of weird very detailed random dreams happening.

I am definitely sleeping better now that I have bought a dream genie pillow by the way - it's so so comfortable I can't recommend it enough!

Disinterested · 11/09/2017 19:04

Back from the scan with a spring in our steps - he's still a boy and he's perfectly healthy!

His body is dating him further along than the rest of him, meaning he's a bit of a chunk. You can see his pot belly in the scan picture! Haha.

January Babies #5 - Are we 'glowing' yet?!
Waitingonasmile · 11/09/2017 22:07

Lovely scan photo! Glad it all went well. Smile

I'm here with another moan and todays is...piles. Sorry, I have sucked the magical and beautiful element from pregnancy. Blush SPD, heartburn, itchy scar and piles. I'm a fat, waddling, ball of delight these days.Grin

Maybebaby2 · 11/09/2017 22:09

Congratulations on your scan disinterested lovely scan pic!

Fredthefrog · 12/09/2017 06:29

Cute pic @disinterested
@peachgreen I'm off to pregnancy yoga for the first time to and feel a bit nervous as no idea what it will be like. Hope I will find it as nice and useful as you @klaw87

peachgreen · 12/09/2017 07:30

Thanks for all your reassurance ladies! I really enjoyed my yoga and it wasn't too tough. Not sure how much I'll use the active birthing stuff but it can't hurt!

WLMcI · 12/09/2017 08:18

@Disinterested congratulations on the scan and the beautiful photo! Maybe you'll have an adorable buddha baby Grin

@peachgreen and @Fredthefrog I love my pregnancy yoga! Couldn't go last week as I was unable to walk last Monday due to SPD, and I really missed it. It's not "active birthing" so it's probably a bit different, but I love having a chat with the other ladies and a truly relaxing time--and no pressure to do any poses that stress the SPD as well.

Speaking of which, @MegRam thank you for the recommendation to try a chiropractor! While I'm waiting on my NHS physio referral (ho hum, I'm not holding my breath) I've made an appointment for today with the practice I saw pre-pregnancy for my chiropractor and tissue massage, as they do indeed have a pregnancy practitioner. Hope it helps, but it can't make it worse anyway! I never honestly appreciated having full mobility before; this is an eye-opener for me as I'm normally active and it's hard for me to be off my feet.

@mills congratulations on the promotion, and I agree with the others that it seems like a good deal as long as you are feeling well enough now, and you delegate the jobs at home you would normally be doing in that hour anyway. I was going to make the point about maternity pay being calculated on that salary, which even if you only get SMP will make your first 6 weeks' maternity pay higher.

MissyJones80s · 12/09/2017 09:16

Victoriaaaaaaaa I've not had fainting spells but days when I've felt rather weak, almost like I could be dizzy and faint but not actually fainted. Sometimes I wonder if it's baby having s growth spurt perhaps. Hope you're feeling brighter today!

Disinterested what a lovely scan pic, I agree it was nerve wracking but afterwards so nice to know all well.

peachgreen glad you enjoyed the yoga. I do and so glad I started. There are some good techniques I have learnt that may be useful during labour but I'm mainly doing it to stretch out and keep a level of activity during pregnancy, I also find it super relaxing after a tough day at work.

Away on a mini break at the moment. Had a lovely massage yesterday made for mummy's to be...so relaxing AND at the end there was a little bit of a light massage (more like just stroking) on the bump...baby was really active swirling around so hopefully it gave him/her a good experience too Grin I loved it!

millsbynight · 12/09/2017 11:43

I'm absolutely horrified with how big I'm getting. I thought I looked fine and then measured myself with a measuring tape this morning... pre-pregnancy my waist is 68cm/26in and now at 24 weeks it's 81cm/31in!! Is that too big of an increase?! My hips and arse have expanded by about 2.5in too Sad Sad
