Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
foxybrown · 05/04/2007 17:24

oh Gpd. I've been to the Wiggles twice live on stage. once here, once in Oz.

The kids were with me, incase you were wondering!

Judgemental? Moi?

foxybrown · 05/04/2007 17:25

Ha ha! I can't even type God.

marylou23 · 05/04/2007 17:36

Ooh, you've been talking about shopping lists. I got the cutest little blue cardigan from the WHite company today. I mean, sure, things like a breast pump, big knickers, breast pads and vests are probably slightly more pracitcal but it's so cute!!!! DH is away this week - not back until tomorrow evening so am taking the opportunity to buy stuff .
talking of 'voicing an opinion', my NCT teacher has been going on and on about how important it is that we all do things 'our way' and don't let people tell us anything is better or worse than any other way. Then I asked her about induction (for medical reasons I'm likely to be induced at 38-39 weeks) and she pulled this horrible face and basically told me it was a dreadful thing to do, far more painful, distressing for the baby, yada yada yada. Just what I needed to hear . So, basically, what she really should have said is that we can do whatever we want so long as it's exactly what she thinks we should do? God I get so irritated. it's not fair, particularly since I'm a first timer and already fretting about what the best thing for my baby is.
But enough of that... Seansgirl, LOL at your shopping list (muslims? ).

foxybrown · 05/04/2007 17:48

Don't you just love it when people are SO helpful! Cos its going to be a joy for you. Daft NCT woman.

I SO want to get my baby stuff, but I've still got so long to go. Have a John Lewis basket just waiting to be checked out ... trying really hard not to as I want to go shopping and stock up with DP.

Notice he's back to being DP? He's being nice to me. He's away tonight.

Must be having an affair

oh well, back to parenting. When I say back to that implies I've already done some today ... not strictly the case ...

marylou23 · 05/04/2007 17:52

You mean that after all this, we're expected to be parents too?

foxybrown · 05/04/2007 17:53

don't worry, its only when out in public.

marylou23 · 05/04/2007 17:57

Phew. You had me worried there for a moment...

foxybrown · 05/04/2007 18:21

oh, and on here of course

mine are running rings around me. Its actually worse when they are all getting on because they all become deaf to me. Am trying to get them in the bath. They are totally ignoring me. Have given up.

riabutterflew · 05/04/2007 18:23

If there's a policeman nearby you only have to threaten the kids with violence in the hope they'll take them away. That's what my sister does every time she goes shopping - no joy yet. DS2 is terrified of traffic wardens...
Re the Wiggles. There is a FAR WORSE similat group from Oz too - The Hooley Dooleys (I have family there and we have a video. It is worse than the worse thing you can imagine!)
Why don't PJs make their own way to the washing basket? Like the odd socks under the sofa...
Is NCT as good as being qualified? I have never had anything to do with them being a country bumpkin they don't reach this far out. I have a bizarre belief that medical professionals should know what the best thing is for each person both medically and incorporating personal ideals. That's probably bollocks too!

riabutterflew · 05/04/2007 18:24

Bugger, my italics didn't work.

foxybrown · 05/04/2007 18:41

I agree with you Ria. There's a couple of posts on here today about an article in the Guardian about how we are home birth fetishers and how we go against all odds to have our homebirths despite (in her opinion) increased risks and how we need to have doctors and drugs around just in case. Whatever happened to making informed, considered choices whatever they are and supporting each other regardless?

Oh, I've been deprived of adult conversation today.

Managed to get the kids in the bath by letting them play Hullaballoo naked.

Begging didn't work.

foxybrown · 05/04/2007 18:42

And why does my washing basket never stay empty for more than a nano-second?

marylou23 · 05/04/2007 18:48

I think NCT are trained, but as far as I know they're not midwives or medical professionals. It's more of an educative role, really. And my teacher's not that bad, it's just that I find on the whole birth thing, people are so fixed in their views and it's really difficult when those views don't tally with your own experience.

And there's so much 'anti hospital' feeling out there, which I understand, in that I think choice is really important and that of course if you're healthy and can give birth in the comfort of your own home then that should be totally your call, but when you don't have a choice I think it's quite insensitive to go on at length about how the medical profession don't understand birth, and how intervention is bad bad bad, when sometimes it's essential.

That's why people end up feeling like they've failed when they've had a c-section. WTF? If you've brought a baby into the world you've done an amazing job in my opinion - how you did it is your business.

Sorry, rant over. Anything good on tv tonight?

marylou23 · 05/04/2007 18:53

Sorry, x-posted. Just re-read my post and hope I didn't come out as anti-home birth because I'm not at all. Was going to give birth in a birthing centre - now have to go to hospital. I just wish that the people we consult on these things weren't always on one side of the fence - ie, either totally pro hospitals (the 'don't even think of giving birth without an epidural' gang), or anti them (the 'hospitals are unnatural, doctors don't understand the birth process and will make you do things you don't wnat to do' gang). A happy medium would be lovely, just once!

justbeme · 05/04/2007 19:08

Evening!!
Love the discount code web site Holly - have bookmarked it for when i have more time.
Hope everyone is feeling better tonight with all this lovely sunny weather weve had today! I even dared get my pasty white legs out in the garden (has to be done!)
Had a hospital appointment today for 28 week growth scan - On my way in, I came over all faint had the "tunnel vision" thing and I thought "Oh my god im gonna faint!". So said to this woman "'cuse me can you help me , I think im gonna faint" - Bless her, she sat me down and called for a porter!! Havent felt right all day though. got checked out by the midwife and had bloods taken so we'll see if im anaemic or s'thing. Babys fine, all measuring ok - and im not sure, but think i may have seen a little willy!!
Anyway, have big excuse to make my DP run round after me now, 'cos I just need to rest dont I? !!

riabutterflew · 05/04/2007 19:19

Yes, Rest away.
Dh back at work today so am miserable again (but do have tidy almost-suitable-for-adult-visitors living room). He actually had a day off yesterday and only went into work once, but today is in a bad mood 'cos something didn't get done because they thought he was popping in last night. FFS, he lives and breathes the job anyway, is one day so much to ask?
Shock horror my children are in bed and one of them is actually asleep. I now have to go upstairs and do every jigsaw we own and tidy all the toys that have been put in boxes to be sorted out at a later date so there is room for stepdaughter and her friend on Sunday. At least it will still be tidy on Tuesday so could make a start on the pre-baby list. (Have just been chatting to my sister who said when told I was 29 weeks, "oh, so you might only have another 4-5 weeks then". CHEERS.)
Must go so I can earn some mindless chitchat time later, and maybe some more free shopping (proper offers are so much better than "spend £200 on cornflakes and get a free spoon").

derlor · 05/04/2007 19:27

good god girls this is such a chatty thread!
i go to work for a couple of days and it takes me nearly an hour to catch up - no hope of remembering all the things that have been going on but i'll try - freebie codes (will check that later) home births (not for me personally, i'm happilly troting myself off to hospital but plan to return home after the minimum 6 hour stay - we don't have birthing centres here - what are they???)
baby shopping list hmmm

  1. shoes (for me)
  2. nice green coat from NEXT (for me)
  3. reflexology (for me)
  4. does anyone see a pattern here!!!
  5. OH a Doula - totally new concept to me and everyone i spoke to at work about this today. where do i get one in this neck of the woods??????
  6. breast pads
  7. nappies
  8. 6 + 7 added so no one reports me to the social workers someone asked about a steriliser ?? can't remember who - i would recommend AVENT microwave one - comes with bottles and is piss easy to use - no tablet things required just water. also get well soon to all those with aches/pains and fainting spells and (((((hugs)))) to small babys and possible early births. my ear is much better - no more green goo leaking - still a bit deaf though. I do however have to express my extreeme concern at some of the men you lot find attractive - VERY worrying

Seansgirl · 05/04/2007 19:32

Its all coming out now Foxy isn't it? Tee Hee! A whole Wiggles show - I think I'd have to send DH, I couldn't stand it even if it was just to gawp at the Captain! Isn't it funny how kids love them tho? DD knows most of the songs already. One is quiet good from a safety point of view about crossing the road. But some? Well "fruit salad yummy yummy..." sticks in my head WTF is that all about? "mini eggs yummy yummy" is more like it.

Marylou, don't worry about the induction, I was induced (twice BTW - once gel and once drip - the drip worked) and TBH it wasn't that bad. But I did have pethidine and gas & air - that was a decision based on my parenting class also telling me it would be painful. It wouldn't worry me if they said I had to be induced again, I'd rather that than c-section. But we're all different.

derlor · 05/04/2007 19:37

i was induced with my 1st too via a drip - then demanded had all the drugs going not so bad really.
2nd time i had a lovely water birth with just gas and air - hoping for that again. I loved my water birth HIGHLY recommend it.

We're harmless really Derlor just don't get out much or don't get it much! Glad to hear that yuky stuff is clearing out of your ear.

Seansgirl · 05/04/2007 19:39

Off to be domesticated girls. See you tomorrow night night xx

foxybrown · 05/04/2007 19:40

Give me the Wiggles anyday! My 2.4 yo is now mad on PowerRangers. I put her in her pj's tonight and said 'there's no purple power ranger is there?'. She replies, 'there is, its Leonbold in Power Rangers SPD' (as opposed to the current series which is Mystic Force).

They aren't allowed THAT much TV!!

Will parent properly tomorrow

derlor · 05/04/2007 19:43

T.V. is very educational - at least thats what i keep telling myself!! we have friends who dont let their kids eat sweeties or chocolate or watch T.V. ---- WTF do those kids do all day???!!!!

OP posts:
foxybrown · 05/04/2007 19:44

their parents do puzzles with them, read them stories and do creative activities. They don't have mums who are on MN!

foxybrown · 05/04/2007 19:46
