kiwinat · 30/03/2007 10:54

sadly we don't have a harvey nicks in our crap town

marylou23 · 30/03/2007 11:02

Aaaaggghhhh! This has got to stop. I am getting NO WORK DONE - every time I start, I flick on Mumset and there are 200 or so messages to read. And it's hard enough to concentrate at the moment...
Glad to see we're back to shopping and free stuff! Went to Daisy and Tom after scan yesterday (can't remember who asked, but they want to induce early because I've got a blood disorder which puts me at high risk of placenta disfunction, so they're scanning me regularly to monitor growth and hope to whip the baby out at 38/39 weeks... Am trying to ignore the chaper in my birth book that says induction is way more painful because contractions come thick and fast. Time to worry about that later...) Anyway, celebrating the fact that little one is growing well, we bought pram and car seat. They had a one day only 20% discount, too, which made our huge outlay feel like huge bargain .
And now I have to do some work because if I don't I'll still be working in June... I don't know if I'm just having a bad few days or whether this is the beginning of a gradual decline, but having been full of energy for weeks I'm now beginning to feel totally knackered all the time. ANd brain dead. Not a good combination when you're self-employed and there's no one there to kick you into working...

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 30/03/2007 11:17

PMSL, my dd just poured herself a bowl of Weetos, luckily with no milk, the cheeky little minx!

What buggy did you buy marylou? How exciting, I love buggies, yes I'm a saddo!

marylou23 · 30/03/2007 11:26

Okay, don't judge me (remember all that stuff about this thread being supportive and stuff??!!) but I succumbed to the bugaboo. And I know it's over priced, but it faces forward and back, and it fits in the car, and it has a carrycot which can double as a moses basket (see? it's a bargain, really...) and it's just so nice. And at 20% off it was... still heinously expensive . But I love it. I do. (Hangs head in shame).

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 30/03/2007 11:31

Nooooo, Marylou!!! Only joking!! Which one, Chameleon or Gecko? What colour? I had a Frog once (bought 2nd hand for £40!!)!

marylou23 · 30/03/2007 11:39

Chameleon. Red upper, grey/black base. It's beautiful. I think I might start using it as a shopping basket/handbag (you know, until there's a baby in it, obviously). And don't tell me about prams bought for £40. I'm trying to convince myself that the baby will thank me for spending its college fund on a pram. Image is important, even at a young age, right?

BadZelda · 30/03/2007 12:09

Hey MaryLou - I know exactly where you're coming from being self-employed too. I really can't be bothered this week, and feel strangely depressed. It's not like me at all as I'm usually really self-motivated. I was planning on working up till 37 weeks, and got really lucky with getting a 3-day-a-week contract that pays very well (the other two days I work at home) but half the time I feel like I can't even be bothered to make it into their office ;(

Am having a home birth (partly due to awful hospital experience first time round) and went to meet the midwife team at the hospital this morning (It took 3 months to get referred to the home birth team). I think one of the things that's depressed me is how CRAP midwife services are in South London. It's not their fault I'm sure, as they're overworked and underpaid, but they're so cold and disinterested. I have had 4 appointments in total since I've been pregnant (29 weeks today) and have never seen the same person twice...plus they're always really perfunctory...after waiting on average 45 minutes for each appt I'm generally in there for about five minutes and they never volunteer any information (baby's size, position, etc) unless I really press them for it. They told me to make an appt for a check at my local surgery, so I phoned up the surgery and there's one midwife there for 2 hours a week, so they can't fit me in until the 17th, and then only at 2.20 in the afternoon...which means half a day off work and loss of income as I'm a contractor. It really makes me feel like not bothering with the midwives at all. Then I feel bad, as I've been really lucky to have had a trouble-free pregnancy so far, but I'm worried I'll have the same bad experience with post-natal care as I did with number one (no one turned up to check on us after birth for nearly 10 days, and only then because I got suspicious and phoned to find out why no one had come to give the vitamin K, etc...only to be told me I was low-priority) ... If I were a midwife I think I'd take the time to make every woman who came to see me feel special and important! It wouldn't kill them to be a bit more human would it?

Sorry for long rant...11 weeks just suddenly feels like a long time, although I'm sure it will pass quickly, and hopefully i won't feel this depressed and disinterested by life until June ;(

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 30/03/2007 12:15

Lol marylou, they are expensive, but make you feel great when you push them, so are def worth it! There's nothing like an expensive buggy to make you feel like a yummy mummy! Bugaboos also hold their value really well, so when you come to sell it you should get a lot of your outlay back.

marylou23 · 30/03/2007 12:18

Zelda, that's exactly my experience, too. I'm 29 weeks on Monday, in SW London and I've seen three different midwives for about five minutes a time. All of them looking at their watches... And they're inept, too - I needed a blood test last time and she tried six times, leaving me with horrendous bruises that lasted for three weeks. THen, when I saw the consultant yesterday to get the results, it turned out she hadn't labelled the vial properly so they'd tested the wrong thing. Bearing in mind I'm supposedly 'high risk' I just couldn't believe it. Had to have another blood test at the hospital (fortunately only one attempt needed, no bruising...) but now have to wait for the results again. Personally I'm just thankful I'm now under consultant care.
Phew, rant over. Hopefully as you're having a home birth you'll actually get someone with you all the way through - I read a horrible article recently that said women are regularly left alone for hours at a time during birth. Just what you need...
And workwise, let's hope we can get ourselves motivated next week...

marylou23 · 30/03/2007 12:19

thanks Holly, feel much better now! It's an INVESTMENT. ANd baked beans on toast is a perfectly nutritious meal to have every day for five weeks...

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 30/03/2007 12:20

BadZelda, that's not good! Can you complain to someone? I am very lucky that my surgery is quiet and I have seen the same mw throughout. Can you change surgeries to one with a better midwifery team?

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 30/03/2007 12:21

There's nowt wrong with beans on toast! Esp if there is some grated cheese on top!

marylou23 · 30/03/2007 12:27

And some Lindt easter eggs on the side...

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 30/03/2007 12:29

Oooo chocolate! I've run out , but my mum has just finished school for the holidays and is coming to pick me up and she is getting an ocado delivery later. Hopefully I'll get to it first and hopefully there will be some special freebie choccie treats in there!

BadZelda · 30/03/2007 12:30

That's the thing you see....My GP didn't tell me that the first hospital I was booked in with didn't do home births in my area...so I went to their clinic in Streatham...very poor service (but I remembered this from last time, so wasn't surprised). Then it took me 3 months to get transferred to the other hospital that DOES do home births in my area...so I had to go to that hospital for next 2 MW apts...but when I met the team that's supposed to manage home births in my area they said 'oh, your doctor should have told you that you can attend MW clinic at your local surgery' - and told me to make an appt there. So hopefully I should see the same MW from now on...except she's just gone on sabbatical, so it will be a locum. It's just frustrating, as I feel like they never chase anything up - it's taken me a lot of phonecalls and letters just to get this far. My husband is convinced that it's all a diversion, and when I'm in labour they'll just say 'sorry, we've got no midwives available - you'll have to come into the hospital'. As the one that does homebirths has a much worse reputation than the one where I had my first baby, I really hope this doesn't happen...anyway, no point worrying about this until the time comes. At least I can chat to you lovely sympathetic ladies, which helps a lot.
zx

marylou23 · 30/03/2007 12:42

They're all twunts.

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 30/03/2007 12:53

Not doing homebirths in your area? Twunty, twunty, twunt, twunts!! How rude! I thought homebirths were mean to be encouraged and women were supposed to have choice of care!

FOXYYYYYYY, ARE YOU THERE? You are mentioned in the MN news round up email thingy for your contribution to the "doing it with a baby in the room thread"! You are pretty much famous now!

marylou23 · 30/03/2007 13:08

Okay, I have to read that. Foxy, you old fox...

mytwocents · 30/03/2007 13:16

Afternoon! Golly, takes so so long to read and no time to chat!! Zelda, sorry you've had what sounds like a really complicated hassle so far, I'm even more grateful now for my little slip of a midwife as I've not seen anyone else at all yet, good luck though, you should get a home birth if thats what you want, fingers crossed for ya.
Derlor, your poor lo, I remember chicken pox, still got scars.. oh and well done staying in your pj s is so nasty down here, I'm off soon to go and get back into mine and eat cake...
Sorry to repeat but OH MY GOOD , NOT KNOWING YOUR HAVING A BABY!!!!!
And what you lot said..... crazy!
Catkin , I want a fish like yours!! always thought fish made boring pets but yours sounds great.
Bumper, I too am a crying mess fairly often these days, we are so going to love having our babies on the outside! Then feeling like ourselves again - Pegnancy is so demanding - at least for me anyway .

Well done on your push chair Marylou, I was pushing my SIL 's bugaboo the other day and it's lovely, so easy and fits in their tiny car. Our mountain buggy is on it's way from the states in a month....

H I fancy Louis Theroux too, bet he's got a big willy!
Oh and for those Alain Rickman fans.. I loved him since Truly Madly Deeply - for years! A friend introduced us at a restaurant and he proceeded to chat me up - Not Nice!! He was realy drunk, lecherous, slimy and has terrible teeth, sorry if i'm oversharing there..........
Hello auntymandy! Not heard from you in ages.. xx

mummyjx · 30/03/2007 13:29

Good erm morning everyone. This thread is very funny (but I can't remember now what I was laughing at. Think it was a big fart really being a baby). What do you think is worse - breezing through being pregnant not knowing 'til it's born and then having to be in hospital while DP/Dh and his mother and your mother go out and buy the things they think you need, or having all the usual crap from day one and being able to organise it yourself? I wonder if labour is more of a "reasonable" experience when you're not expecting it and haven't read up on it etc
No sexy dreams to report - where are you based outside UK sputnik? What "sort " of men do you have where you are??? (Back to freaky water-induced death type dreams and things that don't make sense).
I got up this morning intending to cause some kind of riot, but have not got sufficient energy as still feel ill and have DH-work-related-issues to contend with.
Just wondering though - what is the best stance re pain relief in labour? All or nothing?

mummyjx · 30/03/2007 13:30

Am thinking I might change my name to "redragtoabull" or "blackisreallywhite".
Not really, I'm too scared!

hollyandtheeasterbunny · 30/03/2007 13:35

Are you still getting told off mummyjx? I'll go duff them up if you want! Best stance for childbirth= any way you want as long as it's in the water! Water is the best pain relief, use it if you can!

Mytwocents, being chatted up by Alan Rickman, you sly dog!!

mytwocents · 30/03/2007 13:39

Where are you getting greif mummyjix?

Honestly H it was horrid!!
