Fingers crossed this works, no idea how to make a thread but giving it my best shot. Let the May babies continue!

We seem to have entered the clusterfeeding zone last night Confused and the screaming Sad

teainbed · 05/06/2017 09:40

We got there eventually, he always takes me to the brink and then suddenly decides it's all ok and he will settle.

Does anyone believe certain foods you eat when breastfeeding can affect your baby? I'd always though this was alias of bollocks but some nights he seems to be really gassy and vomity compared to others. Last night I had fish with loads of veg including broccoli and strawberries for pudding both of which seem to be on a list of common culprits.

@1004Rise I'm using Boots reuseables which are ok I'd maybe look for something bigger if I was buying again. I have had allergic reactions to disposable ones but sometimes if I'm out I wear reuseables next to my skin and a disposable on the outside which seems to work for leaks!

@mightymouse76 I wish I had an answer for you! It might just be a case of muddling through or trial and error. We are gradually moving towards BabyTea having a proper 'bedtime' with his siblings rather than being up with us. This is important for me as I need an hour or two of quiet in the evenings to retain my sanity! So starting an evening routine, bath, massage, breastfeed, sleep in cot rather than on us! It might not always 'work' but is certainly something to work towards. On the days it works he's in bed by 8, fed again when I go to bed between 10 and 11 and then another feed at about 2ish but I stress there's no consistency yet just what I am working gently towards.

savagehk · 05/06/2017 09:48

mighty i have the more expensive version of that one, it's great but you do have to tie it. The more expensive one (ie not with basic in the name) is quite thick and has a two way street so you can use it a bit longer than a "normal" stretchy. I bought it for my first and am using it now for #2.

Rabbitykins55 · 05/06/2017 10:46

@teainbed I'm keeping a food diary for that reason. Recommend by the health visitor to see if there is a pattern between what I eat and baby's uncomfortable wind. Can't say I've noticed anything yet though. Plus this isn't the time to be making a physical note of how many biscuits I'm eating! Blush

savagehk · 05/06/2017 11:11

tea with my first nothing bothered him but i know others have had to cut out a variety of foods to keep their babies happy. I'm cutting out dairy atm as#2 seems to suffer a bit with indigestion and we have family history. Can take 2 weeks to work out your system though.

mightymouse76 · 05/06/2017 11:53

@teainbed thanks! Re diet, I haven't tried but really should...although after the GD I'm desperate not to have to restrict my foods all over again...plus as I was chief cook and bottle washer in this house, I'm finding cooking now almost impossible so diet is whatever I can get in my mouth quickly! Took me two days to make a pot of shakshuka over the weekend..Chop one day, sauté the next...

@Rabbitykins55 I'm made up of 50% 'Laura's creamy rice puddings', 20% energy balls and 20% garibaldi biscuits. The rest is asparagus and a bit of mackerel I think?!

EsmesBees · 05/06/2017 12:07

mighty I've got that sling, and it shouldn't feel tight. It's hard to describe, but when you've got it right, you know it. Have you got a sling meet or similar nearby where you could get it checked?

I tried to feed in mine earlier and failed completely. I've forgotten how to do it.

I found dd1 found her own routine without much intervention from me, and I'm hoping this one will be the same. I would just go with it for now, this bit goes really quickly, and it's not long they need you this much.

teainbed · 05/06/2017 12:18

I'm torn between wanting to fix things like a gassy baby and step away from Google!

McBaby · 05/06/2017 13:29

I don't think there is much evidence that food gets in to your milk with the exception of cmp and other things which enter the blood stream i.e. Alcohol and medication.

WishIWasSleeping · 05/06/2017 14:26

@mightymouse76 - that's the sling I have and I love it. I hired it for 3 weeks and am picking up my purchased one today. It's one long bit of fabric that you have to tie every time. There's a more expensive version too which it says you can use for longer.
(Ha! Typed before I read Savage's post!)
I tried the close caboo but just didn't like the way it felt on.

@teainbed - I always find onions made my DD struggle with wind, top and bottom. Not really paid much attention this time - I'm sure whatever's making DS struggle with wind will work out eventually.

And I brought breastfeeding vitamins today. They include the vitamin whatever.. d?!Woohoo for me. x

Northernexile · 05/06/2017 15:26

mighty I also have the more expensive version of that sling that you linked to. Once you have knack of tying it I find it very good. I've had to watch the online tutorials again this time to refresh my memory though. I find a stint in the sling is good for getting up his stubborn wind too.

teainbed · 05/06/2017 17:15

@mightymouse76 what did the lactation Consultant say about nipple direction?

CoxsOrangePippin · 05/06/2017 18:27

Baby is two weeks old and has switched overnight from being asleep unless feeding, to WIDE AWAKE EYES.

What on earth do I do? My ability to make him sleep is limited by not being able to sit (so can't rock his bouncer with my foot), or carry him for more than 10 mins at a time (so the sling is out for now), or walk more than a few hundred yards (so long pram walks are out)...

teainbed · 05/06/2017 18:52

@CoxsOrangePippin shush-pat and swaddle? There's YouTube videos of the Happiest Baby on the Block doctor doing it.

EsmesBees · 05/06/2017 19:32

Cox stroke the bit between the eyebrows with your finger. The reflex is to shut their eyes.

FoxMulder · 05/06/2017 19:43

When feeding doesn't work I am at a total loss! Grin

savagehk · 05/06/2017 20:08

Ooh I'd forgotten that esmes - or wipe your hand gently down from their forehead

RasperryInAMelon · 06/06/2017 03:49

teainbed · 06/06/2017 08:26

We've surely only got a couple of babies still to come? So pleased at all these safe arrivals. Smile

In other news, in a completely non scientific anecdotal study where n=1, a bland creamy pasta for dinner with no broccoli or veg or fruity pudding lead to no wind, reflux or vomiting last night and a 4.5 hour stretch of sleep. Grin So that's what I'm eating for tea forever!
