congrats spongecake

kittywaitsfornumber6 · 22/03/2007 10:17

Excellent news Spongecake, very well done. What have you called him?

I guess piffle must be on her way now, lucky thing

Lunar, let's hope their measurements are all a bit 'out' eh?

Good luck for later Eids, you must be very excited

I'm off back to bed for a couple of hours xx

foxcub · 22/03/2007 10:22

well done sponge - good luck piffle

muppethasakitten · 22/03/2007 10:33

Good luck Piffle - you'd better have it this time... can't imagine your rage if it stops again!!

Well done to sponge too - let us know the details soon...

Laidback - sending you my strongest birthy vibes - so expect your waters to go at any moment!!

Chocolatepenny - if your waters go in M&S make sure you are sitting on a sofa - you may get that for free then!! (probably wouldn't want it then though!)

Eids - best of luck and let us know how it all goes...

Lunar - can they not give you a scan if they are worried about size etc? Perhaps you have a greater amount of fluid now? Perhaps you should chat to Jay about birthing whoppers!

LaidbackinEngland · 22/03/2007 11:03

Congratulations spongecake and good luck Eidsvold.

Well, I have just got back from the hospital and I was glad I had steeled myself before going in. The (grumpy) midwife announced that we WOULD be doing a sweep today as I was 11 days overdue. I announced that I wouldn't be having a sweep today , but that I would consider on Monday when I am 42 + 1 weeks. Had fetal monitoring for 1/2 hour which was all fine, BP ok, no other probs. Registrar not available to see me... so they can't be that bovvered can they ? She kept on banging on about policy .. but couldn't really offer any reason why I should be induced as the baby and I are both fine.

They are going to ring me later to "tell me the plan" ... something tells me that my laidbackness is about to be tested !

kittywaitsfornumber6 · 22/03/2007 11:06

laidback, they are gits

morocco · 22/03/2007 11:06

congrats spongecake
good luck eidsvold, looking forward to hearing all about the birth
good luck piffle

I've just posted on birth announcements that emily was born last night - had a sweep that finally got things going, but it was still a niggly and longish labour with lots of stopping and starting. anyway, the fab bit is I got my hb, everyone was lovely, she is beautiful and we are all cosy at home

good luck everyone

Congrats morocco - great news - nice to have another girl in the world!
off to read your birth announcement...

muppethasakitten · 22/03/2007 11:13

and well done laidback for standing your ground

muppethasakitten · 22/03/2007 11:15

morocco am intrigued as to Emily being born with her waters intact!!! Explain what that looked like???

Mossie · 22/03/2007 11:39

Just had my driving lesson; my bump no longer fits properly behind the wheel so I was really uncomfy and my wrists are now really sore again. So I've deffo decided against booking one for next week now. Haven't even walked the dogs yet this morning think they're going to get a nice quick "round the block" I'm afraid!

Laidback you're right, I know, we should file everything straight away! "Eat that frog" and all that!

Dolly so glad you are back home with your little girl, are you going to put piccies up?

Kitty what are the ice cube exercises? Sounds intriguing! Sorry you're not getting any "hints" yet of your lo shifting into gear.

Eids I'll be thinking about you at midnight ('cos I certainly won't be sleeping!) best of luck!

Piffle let's hope this is it this time!!! Exciting!!!

Lins I'm fed up and I'm not even 40 weeks yet so I don't have the right to be fed up! If you haven't felt your lo move as much it can't hurt to ring the hospital, I did that a couple of weeks back and the moment I put the phone down from speaking to them, he started to kick and kick and kick!

Laidback sending the best birth vibes I can your way... imagine yourself in the woods of Cornwall... you know, opening up like petals on a flower and all that malarky...

Your mw sounds very annoying btw who do these people think they are?

Lunar what are they saying baby's weight is now, then?

Congratulations Spongecake!!! Have you named him yet?

Morocco congratulations on Emily and I will go and check out your birth announcement in a minute!

Right off to eat something before my dog walk... see you all later!

LunarSea · 22/03/2007 12:09

Laidback - we should swap, mine don't seem at all perturbed about going to 43 weeks before they even talk about what to do next!

Mossie - they're currently estimating about 10 lbs, but if it's going up by 1 lb in just 6 days, and they're happy for it to be another 22 days after yesterday I could end up with one very big baby!

sazzybee · 22/03/2007 12:38

Hello you lot

Sorry I've been a bit quiet - I'm struggling with finding 5 minutes to actually sit at the computer. If I get any time to myself I'm either eating or sleeping!

Hope you're all okay - I shall try and have a read through and find out who else has dropped and who's still waiting.

Things are okay ish here - Elliot is beautiful and I adore him but I've got an infected c section scar, a trapped nerve in my hip and a cracked nipple. So I'm struggling to be honest. Am now on big bad painkillers and antibiotics so I'm hoping things will start to sort themselves out. I've also just had a conversation with a lovely NCT bf counsellor who's made me feel a lot better.

Elliot also has a tied tongue so they want me to snip it which I'm in two minds about. Isn't it hard making those kind of decisions about someone else's body? And this is just the early stages!

The mw is coming round tomorrow so I'm hoping that we can sort out the latch on my poorly nipple and that will really help.

Hope you're all well and coping with either the wait or your new arrivals.

I'm supposed to be posting somewhere else now aren't I? I'll try and get on a bit later and post the birth story and put up some pics

kiwibella · 22/03/2007 12:44

congratulations spongecake and morocco - and welcome to your beautiful babes!! Sending lots of good wishes for a speedy recover Eids. Look forward to hearing from you (especially your girlies reactions to their little sibling) when you are up to it.

kiwibella · 22/03/2007 12:45

Sazzy, you have had a lot to deal with.. but glad that you are enjoying your baby! Hope the MW visit helps tomorrow. Take care

muppethasakitten · 22/03/2007 12:48

Sazzy - get someone to get you some lanisoh cream from mothercare to put on your nipple - it really helped me...

Can anyone do anything to help your trapped nerve?

I'm on ABs too for mastitis - it's amazing how quickly they helped me - hope it's the same for you... from what i've heard it's not at all uncommon for the scar to be infected - didn't eids have that? I certainly remember her saying to bathe it in tea tree oil etc

Glad you are home and things will definately improve for you every 24 hours that go by. 2 weeks on from Samuels birth i am unrecognisable to how i was at first - ok so i had a relatively easy/natural labour but I know things will get better for you.

When you say Elliot is tongue tied and they want you to snip it... you don't mean they actually want YOU to snip it do you??.
No experience of this - although was at school with a girl who had that - don't think it had affected her but she couldn't stick her tongue out!!

Keep safe and try to make it onto the antenatal thread when you can...

rosylonginglily · 22/03/2007 13:20

Sazzy a friend of my sister had trouble bf one of her babies and later discovered she was tongue tied!
Congratulations Morocco and spongecake!

kittywaitsfornumber6 · 22/03/2007 13:49

Sazzy, you seem to be having a tough time of it . There are alot of us who have had infections and ilnesses post birth.

Mossy, the ice cube thing is a technique to help with pain coping strategies. One I quite like atm is holding an ice cube against my wrist (don't like that bit) and then trying to focus on where the pain ends and the parts of my body that are NOT hurting.
I think it will be a very useful technique in late labour when the pain can feel as if it has taken over you entire body and can therefore feel overwhelming, Whereas, if you try and confine it to where it is it is alot easier to manage. Does that make amy sense?

My lo is alot more wriggly today thank heavens I really was starting to worry

muppethasakitten · 22/03/2007 14:11

Kitty - that makes perfect sense to me too because when i had the epidural with Samuel it only took on one side - so had nice pain relief on right side and full whammy labour pains on left... because it was contained to that side i was very aware of where the pain started and ended and i didn't find myself feeling it was wracking every part of me which had been the case in previous labours....

If you can crack the ability to focus in on just that one area around the uterus/pelvis and contain the pain in that area i reckon you certainly will notice a benefit... that and the knowledge that each contraction only peaks for a few seconds etc really helped me...

Mossie · 22/03/2007 15:57

Hello all,

Just come back from the mw. Lo's head is completely engaged, hurray! But I talked to her about my wrists. Her advice was, "if you wake up and they're sore, wiggle your fingers around." Er, thanks.

Also, I asked her about what would happen if I went overdue; told her I'd prefer something like a membrane sweep before the heavy artilery; drips, pessaries etc., arrived. She said that Liverpool Women's won't allow them do do sweeps on their patients; if I was at Whiston (the local hospital) they'd be fine to do it! Wtf? She said the best she could do, is book me in an appt for next Thurs (40+3) and if I hadn't gone by then, refer me to the Women's for an internal exam / membrane sweep there.

So much for "choice" - you can choose the hospital you want to go to, but then it messes up everything else!

Sorry for the rant!

Lunar that does sound strange that they'd let you go over by so long if your lo is growing that quickly. Maybe they're expecting you to "pop" by yourself before then?

Sazzy so nice to hear you're back home with little Elliott but I'm sorry to hear that you're having a tough time. {{{hugs}}} Hope things look up for you soon.

Kitty / Muppet that sounds like a good idea, the ice cube thing. I'll give that a try. Although not on my wrists, they're sore enough atm as it is! Actually I made dh read some of the pain relief / relaxation exercises in my Sheila Kitzinger book. "Bit hippy trippy these aren't they?" Er, thanks dh. I'll be trying them on my own then, I take it?

Dh has the day off tomorrow actually so I might try getting him to relinquish his cynicism.

Also if I'm not on here tomorrow I'll be spending time with dh, so don't think I've gone into labour!!!

morocco · 22/03/2007 16:27

weird mw rules about sweep, mossie, and sorry mw not more helpful about wrists as well

someone asked about what dd looked like in amniotic sac, I just had a quick peek so i don't really know but have found a few piccies if you can face the gruesome sight check it out \link{http://www.birthdiaries.com/diary/ext005/here} - called being born in the caul and she will have great mystic powers . it wasn't deliberate, they tried a few times to rupture them but they were really tough or just stuck to her head. it meant she tried to breathe while they were still intact so she needed a bit of massage/air to breathe at first but she was ok after a couple of puffs

morocco · 22/03/2007 16:29

is this link better?

yogimum · 22/03/2007 16:35

sazzybee, my son also has tongue-tie. Spoke to specialist and we decided to leave it as he had no problem feeding. If he has problems with lumps in food then I was told to get in touch with him though luckily no probs yet! A midwife scared me as she said he could have speech problems in the future, this is a load of rubbish as a good friend of dh has tongue tie and speaks beautifully.
