Nbg - congratulations and tentative welcome to this thread! You're in good company - there are a couple of people on this thread expecting no. 5 and no. 6 so I'm sure you'll be able to get lots of tips about how to handle a mere hat-trick!!

mandler · 02/04/2007 15:47

Hello again, I haven't been around much - keeping my head down and getting through to week 12! I just had my booking in appt with a community midwife - what a letdown! I was so excited to be finally able to talk to someone about my pg and all I got was a one hour wait, and half an hour of filling in forms. Maybe my expectations were too high but I at least thought I would be able to come away knowing more than when I went in!! Has anyone else had the same experience or was I just v unlucky?

PolarMummy · 02/04/2007 16:30

Hi Folks, I hope everyone is feeling better today, it has been nice and sunny here today which always cheers me up

Nbg congrats and welcome.

Great news HBM I am sure you are very relieved.

I am planning to tell my Boss either this afternoon or tomorrow and I know this is going to sound really silly but I don't know what to say! He is a great Boss and I get on with him really well and he is a big family man himself so I know he will be great about it, but I don't just want to go to him and say "I'm pregnant" How has anyone else told their boss?

Mumpbump · 02/04/2007 16:31

Yup - I told mine that we were expecting another baby in October. I thought it didn't sound as abrupt as saying "I'm pregnant"...

honeyapple · 02/04/2007 16:33

Hi nbg- you are going to be busy! I'm having number 3 too- but my DC are BIG! (Well 8 and 4).

KezzaG · 02/04/2007 16:35

Polarmummy, I hate telling my boss too. For some reasin I always feel disloyal (is that a word) and that I am going to put them out. Doesnt help that my boss a fully committed career woman with no children. I just rambled on a bit about having some good and news and that I was pregnant. Hope it goes ok.

Mandler, my experience of MW appointment was the same as yours. All paper filling. It was even worse with the gp, and just as we were leaving she said "congratulations by the way". Guess it is nothing new to them.

I have spent the afternoon researching hypnobirthing. I think I might go for it, will keep you all informed.

Nbg welcome, I saw your other thread. Hope all goes well for you.

MrsFish · 02/04/2007 17:05

Welcome nbg

Nbg · 02/04/2007 17:17

I have spoke to the MW and I have my booking in appt on Thursday and my scan should be sometime next week.
Then I'll find out if I leave you for the November thread or not

HI back again, cold getting a little better. Had to take DS1 to doctors this morning as barking at night and panicing, etc. Turns out he has croup! What fun.

Another sleepless night looming. Those with older children when do we finally get to sleep???????????????????????

buffythenappyslayer21 · 03/04/2007 08:16

morning all!!

saw consultant yesterday.started off by getting myself all into a panic as i knew i was having my blood taken (mw tried last time but couldnt get any, ended up with massive black bruise-plus have a huge fear of needles!)
got there,mw took blood pressure (still low but she said tehy prefer it low to high)and she looked at my arm which is still bruised from previous attack with needle and she refused to even try!so i got myself all worked up fr nothing!!!ive got to go to the hospital today to let the philebotomist (sp??) do it.

consultant looked through my notes and because ive had a previous section, shes offered me another!i couldnt believe it!i nearly started crying and explained to her that since i got pg this time, ive been terrified of giving birth as the pain i had when having dd,when her head went under my cs scar, was worse than the contractions and im petrified of going through that again.
she was great, said she understood, and wants to see me again at 29 wks for my decision.she said its completely upto me.but when i have scan at 22 wks,if fibroids are bigger and depending on what postion they are in,would probably mean a cs anyway.
also have to have my glucose tested at 28 wks and that aswell could point to a cs.so ens of the day, looks like im having a section!
dh said hes ok about it,as he will be at home anyway,so we wont have to worry about my recovery,he'll be doing everything (aww!!)
consultant said that if i go into labour beofre planned cs,the aneasthetist will come straight in and set up an epidoodal (prefer that to epidural!!!) also will have to see him before planned cs date to amke sure im fit and well for it.

bit worried about the weight issue.they seem to be obsessed with bmi now,and because im "a little on the heavy side"(thats how the consultant put it) she said im at risk of diabetes.asked if its ok to diet, she said no.so cant win!she said could simply be my thyroid level dropping again,so having that checked aswell.(lost 3 stone because of thyroid going into overdrive last pgnancy,so they dropped my thyroxine level and it piled back on!)

anyway, morning whinge over.going to go buy some more tops and trousers today after hospital as everything is getting abit too snug now!!

hope everyone is ok!!sorry for the moan!!

Mumpbump · 03/04/2007 09:52

Morning all!

Jersey - can you get a humidifier for ds' room at night? I am sure I remember reading stories about boiling kettles in ye olden days for croup. It might help or stick a wet towel over the radiator at hight.

Buffy - pleased to hear that you have been offered a c-section. Must be a weight off your mind! Happy shopping...

Hope everyone else is doing well today and that we're all starting to feel the benefits of getting past the first 12 weeks! I'm definitely feeling better now I'm into the second trimester. Not blooming by any means, but I wasn't shattered when I left work and happily stayed up until 21:30 instead of passing out on the sofa at 20:00! And my mind feels like it's working again properly instead of being super slow and vague. Thank god!

gemmamc · 03/04/2007 10:07

good morning! Hope everyone is ok.

Like many others, I've been feeling unwell with some kind of bad cold. Actually, I've had 2 colds, one which affected my digestion, then I got a bit better for a few days, and then I got another one which gave me a bad cough, etc...

But I'm getting better...

Shouldn't really say this, but I am starting to feel less nervous about m/c now (at 11 weeks) but now I start worrying about everything else, of course, such as the nuchal scan next week.....I guess the worrying never stops.

KezzaG - let me know what you find out about hypnobirthing. I am interested too. I don't believe the claims that it will reduce the pain, but it seems reasonable that it can help manage it and reduce anxiety and to stay generally calmer... at least I think. Being a first timer I have no clue, but I do remember years ago a friend of the family raving about the self-hypnosis technique she used during her labour...(unfortunately I've lost touch with her, so I can't call to ask her precisely which technique it was).

Mumpbump · 03/04/2007 10:09

Nbg - if you do end up being confirmed as due in October, there is a stats thread here

MrsFish · 03/04/2007 10:09

Morning all

My headache has finally lifted I felt like death all day yesterday nothing would shift it at all, pity the weather doesn't match my improved mood. I'm off to Next this afternoon to try and get some maternity trousers/jeans, I always feel better after a little spend

Jersey, my ds had croup back in October, its very frightening to hear them, but he seemed ok in himself. Had antibiotics from the doctor and was told to put him in a bathroom for 10 mins 3 times a day with hot water going to make it like a steam room. It cleared up in a couple of days.

Buffy - glad you got the decision you wanted, try and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy now

KezzaG · 03/04/2007 10:18

Hi all

buffy good news about the section. Its nice to have the decision taken out of your hand istn it, you can relax now and know what is going to happen.

Im glad we all seem to be starting to feel better.

Gemma, I think I am definately going with hypnobirthing. I have huge fears over the birth this time, brief history - my mum lost a baby during birth when I was 2 (it was the 70's and mistakes were made) and although I cant remember it, it haunted me throughout my last pg. Then all the women on the female side of the family - my mum, 2 aunties, cousin and sister have had problems and all ended in a section. My section was just like fate really and I never expected to suceed with a vaginal birth because I was scared and negative. So, I have decided to face those fears and try for a VBAC but I need to do something radically different.

Hypnobirthing was recommended to me by the MW, she said she has seen it in action and was in shock at how calm it makes the mothers. She saw someone go from a section to a homebirth with no trouble, so I am going for it.

Be prepared for lots of panicky posts from me nearer the time

WinnieThePooh · 03/04/2007 11:49

Morning All,

I hope ypu are all well today.

Just beed for the repeat blood tests. Apparently I was all clear for Parvo Virus but need to get it repeated in a months time.

The reason I was told there was insufficient sample was for the autoantibody screening. She has now taken that so hopefully everythink will be ok with it.I

I have made my 16 week midwife appointmentfor 26th April.

I am not about much at the moment since DD is off school on Easter hols and we are going away to Devon Wednesday next week until the following monday.

Good luck to all that have scans in the coming week.

marieg76 · 03/04/2007 12:02

Hello - am due on the 10th of October. First baby and we're really excited. We had our first scan yesterday and s/he was a healthy size so the sonographer suspects that the due date may be a little sooner. All kicking, waving and wriggling - we can't wait to meet him/her!

Mumpbump · 03/04/2007 12:10

Welcome to the thread, Marie! Just reading the words "first baby and really excited" gave me a little thrill!! I was just thinking today that no-one can tell you how amazing having children is; it is something you need to experience for yourself!

Winnie - pleased to hear your positive result although a shame it's not 100% definitive.

Hillbilly - thinking of you and hoping for good news later today/tomorrow...

KezzaG · 03/04/2007 13:11

glad it was good news today Winnie.

Welcome marieg. Its lovely to see the scan for the first time isnt it. Well done.

Kittiwake · 03/04/2007 19:17

Hi all have been ridiculously busy for a while so haven't checked in hope evryone is okay.

Glad to hear your good news Winnie and Buffy.

Hello to you Marie I am a 1st timer too due 15th October so know exactly how you feel it was pretty amazing to see our little blob on screen too!

Mumpbump it does feel like things are getting a bit better for me too I managed to stay up until 10 O'clock last night for the first time in a looong time. Lets hope it lasts!

marieg76 · 04/04/2007 09:02

Has anyone had two bouts of morning sickness out of interest? I had three weeks of all day sickness which finished about 4 weeks ago. However, since about 2 weeks ago, I seem to have the occasional morning where I vomit - I don't bother eating breakfast at home anymore as I always know where it will end up :-( Apart from that, feeling just excellent - my husband was telling me last night that he was really tearful driving back to work after coming with me for the scan. I feel so high!

marieg76 · 04/04/2007 09:04

Hi Kittiwake and everyone else for the nice welcome. Kittiwake, my husbands birthday is on the 15th of October and I'm quite wary of it being overshadowed by junior. Ok my husband is 32 at the moment and so can deal with it but I still want him to feel special too. I just started a savings account so that I can afford to get him a nice present whilst still being able to buy all of the baby necessities.

Mumpbump · 04/04/2007 09:32

Morning, morning, morning!!! Only one more working day to go and then I am on holiday for next week. Working on the house so won't be much fun, but it will be good to be out of the office, not have to commute and (finally!) make some progress on our building site of a house!!!

Marieg - everyone says that first babies come late so with any luck you lo won't arrive on dh's birthday. No. 2 is due on our wedding anniversary, but ds was induced at 40+2 so I think that if there are no health concerns this time around, no. 2 will probably be late too! Your dh sounds very sweet...

beanie2bump · 04/04/2007 09:51

hi guys remember me, i lost this thread and have been away for a week, managed to find u all again, hope everyone is doing well, xx
