Time for another thread! What a chatty bunch.

We should get a spreadsheet set up that's an open shared document so we can all update it. I'll see what I can do but currently without a laptop!

Jc thanks for posting that. Was it an internal scan or an external scan? I'm so nervous but excited too. Hope there is a heartbeat and that all is ok!

JCHatchling · 25/04/2017 19:19

It was an internal scan, they said next one would be external. I was mad with nerves beforehand, it's so reassuring when they show you the screen though! Welled up!

Lixon · 25/04/2017 19:21

I'm so happy for you angiekla, what a relief on all fronts! Craving salty fries now...

Chamonix sorry you're feeling so rubbish, I hope you can get an early night tonight and tomorrow is less of a write off..

These are 2 thyroid links I was recommended peachi:

JCHatchling · 25/04/2017 19:21

Also read that once you see heartbeat, miscarriage rate drops to 3%, I hope that's true!

JCHatchling · 25/04/2017 19:23

Who is planning to pay for the Harmony test? So expensive and I don't have risk factors but tempted... Is anyone else doing it?

JCHatchling · 25/04/2017 19:25

Counting down the days to our 12 week scans! Can't wait to see everyone's little babies!

Mrsbluebell17 · 25/04/2017 19:30

Thanks JC. Nervous about the internal scan, is it uncomfortable? I'd better mentally prepare myself for that I think.

I read that too regarding the heartbeat and the reduced miscarriage rates.

glastogal · 25/04/2017 19:30

JC - we will do it if our combined test comes back with an increased risk factor as we can get it cheaper through the NHS.. otherwise not!!

glastogal · 25/04/2017 19:32

bluebell - the internal scan isn't uncomfortable. It's weird at first but I think they are less uncomfy than a belly scan!

Wonderfulstuff · 25/04/2017 19:33

Angielka good news!

So, today I had what the surgery receptionist told me would be my MW booking in appointment, only to discover it was actually a 'pre booking in appointment'. A load of forms filled in and now have to go off to hospital tomorrow to get blood tests and book my scan. Then the MW will call me to make an appointment for the actual booking in. Which is all a bit of faff if you ask me, but oh well.

Anyway for any other first timers who are nervous, it was a really positive appointment. I had double service as the MW was accompanied by a trainee. Both were lovely, didn't judge me for not being sure if my DP was 'White British' (then felt the need to stress that it wasn't a one night stand and we'd been together 5 years Blush), and were supportive about diet etc. They could see by looking at my records that I've lost a load of weight and said the focus now was not on weight loss but on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and steady blood sugar.

And to keep up with the food talk I've actually managed to cook dinner for the first time in a week. Spag Bol is on it's way and I can't wait! Grin

Angielka · 25/04/2017 19:38

Thank you Bluebell! I'm 8+3 but also had a scan at 6+6 (I'm in Belgium; different system) and the heart was already beating.

Indeed Glasto - hooray and thank bloody goodness.

JC, my doc was adamant that what you eat in the first trimester is inconsequential - plenty of time later to eat healthily, when you can keep it down...

My two scans have both been external.

Lixon, go for it! I honestly enjoyed every single mouthful

Agree with Glasto internal scan is completely fine. Although I did become completely immune after having them daily for 10 days during IVF, joys!

Wonder sounds really fun, can't wait for my appointment in a few weeks

Angielka · 25/04/2017 19:40

Thanks wonder! Enjoy your spag bol!

Oh and to interpret the scan pic, apparently it's the head on the left and the bum up in the air Hmm

TheGrumpySquirrel · 25/04/2017 19:44

Jc I'm having harmony test on 16 may. I'm just too impatient to find out the sex! And I want to know if there are chromosomal issues with 99% certainty and as early as possible.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 25/04/2017 19:45

Internal scan (I had one at 5+2) was fine.. a bit uncomfortable.. I guess they can see more that way but it did feel a bit intrusive tbh .. in my last pregnancy (2004) I only ever had abdominal scans

JCHatchling · 25/04/2017 19:53

Grumpy I want the 99% reassurance but also want to have an additional 16 week scan as want to find out sex at scan like in the movies, haha!! Do you mind me asking how much you're paying? Thanks

TheGrumpySquirrel · 25/04/2017 19:56

£360.. how do you get an additional 16wk scan?

JCHatchling · 25/04/2017 19:58

I'm going to have a private one... That is a good price, I need to shop around!

leighdinglady · 25/04/2017 20:00

I don't think harmony is worth it without first knowing if you're high risk. It takes over a week to get the results anyway. I found out our baby had Edwards within 4 days of our 12 week scan by way of a CVS (after being told s/he was very high risk) Save your money and wait for your combined screening result first

glastogal · 25/04/2017 20:06

Locally, the best harmony price is £400 but if we get a high risk result we can get it through the NHS for £250.. that was enough to convince me to wait (we were adamant we were going to do it at 10 weeks before the midwife told us that!)

TheGrumpySquirrel · 25/04/2017 20:07

Jc my NHS trust will do it (harmony) for £350 or free if you are high risk . It's worth asking them

JCHatchling · 25/04/2017 20:07

Good advise, thanks leigh! I'll wait until a bit further along and have another think

TheGrumpySquirrel · 25/04/2017 20:08

I don't want to wait because if I need to terminate I'd rather do it at 10-11 weeks than 12-13.

JCHatchling · 25/04/2017 20:09

Great advice ladies, thanks! So pleased I asked and didn't rush into it!

Oysterbabe · 25/04/2017 20:13

Is everyone decided on whether they are finding out the sex? We won't, we didn't with our first and really enjoyed finding out at the birth.
