ALHCTPS You get free dental care because severe gum disease can cause a premature delivery. A lot of women experience bleeding gums in pregnancy because of the increased blood volume (also stuffy noses) - don't panic that your teeth will fall out! I've never heard of that!

Your earlier post made me laugh! I keep worrying I'm going to randomly blurt out "I'm pregnant" in the middle of a completely unrelated conversation. I'm a teacher so it would be wildly inappropriate!

PurplePoppySeed · 02/05/2017 20:09

Can I nervously join too? I got my BFP yesterday after 18+ months of trying, I have a 3.5yo DD so it was a bit of a surprise not to be able to get pregnant again for so long! Before DD1 I had a missed miscarriage and then when I did fall pregnant again I didn't get a BFP until I was nearly 6 weeks! However, the line was so strong this time I'm trying to be hopeful! I'm 4+4 after 2nd cycle on clomid so I think I'm due 5th Jan!

Giraffescantdo - I know it's not the done thing, but I'm all for telling as many of my strong, sensible friends as possible. Beloved disagrees and wants to keep a lid on it until the 12-week scan, but he's not the raving lunatic. I need all the support I can get. And if - God forbid - I miscarry, I'll need even more. I never understand all these codes of silence. I'm a motor mouth and am open about everything. That said, I don't want ordinary colleagues who aren't friends or work in general knowing. None of their business. But I sorely need my female friends, especially the mothers, now. I feel
I need to be under supervision 24/7. Colleague I told today says I can run and hide with her any time I need and it's very soothing knowing she can help talk me off the proverbial ledge where needed. Have always been a bit unsentimental about the baby lark and found so much of the claptrap that goes with it weird, and now I'm going to be in the eye of the storm. I was the same over our wedding - angriest bride ever, even though I adore my beloved and enjoy throwing parties. It was all the peer pressure and nonsense that went with it. Suspect I'll stab anyone who tells me I'm glowing. If this stuff happened to you without a baby being involved, you'd think it was life threatening. I've often compared pregnancy to being John Hurt in Alien and now it's me, it feels not far wrong. I'm addicted to Call the Midwife (excellent telly - my beloved starts crying almost immediately, soppy did) but I've been know to throw up at some of the more grusome scenes - like one where all this green slime came out when the waters broke. I want a child and want to be a mother, but damn I wish my beloved could carry it - he likes fuss and attention. And he's going to be driven to distraction by his first born being entrusted to his but job of a wife who does everything a mile a minute and is 'part shark', i.e. will die if I stop moving. He's patient and methodical and mind-numbingly slow and considered about everything - he'd be GOOD at this. Aaaargh!

ALHC I know what you mean about needing supportit's not just about that urge to shout it from the rooftops (although the excitement is part of it too)! I told my immediate family at 6 weeks last time and husband's family at 8 weeks (as well as my direct supervisors at work, for safety reasons). When I had a MC I needed all the support and understanding I could get, so was very glad I hadn't kept a lid on it; in fact I told every person I worked with about the MC, as I was off for a full week and I needed them to understand that it wasn't as simple as the flu or something you can just recover from! Anyway, I've told my mom and a close friend already, and plan to tell the rest of the "close" people after my 8 week scan (which I get automatically here because of the previous MC), not waiting until 12 weeks except for facebook! The anxiety is perfectly normal, and tbh I think "baby brain" is half about distractionyou can become utterly consumed with thoughts /worry about what's going on inside you, particularly in the early stages when no one else can see you're pregnant so they think you're a lunatic! Grin Outside you're trying to be normal, but your internal conversation is like: "Was that a twinge of ligaments stretching? Are my boobs any bigger today? Is this cramping normal indigestion or should I be worried? I wonder if I hate the smell of that so much because I'm getting super sensitive to smell?" etc etc. We're all the same, don't worry! I'm told it gets better after you get through the first trimester, as you have extremely low chance of MC and you have more evidence of actually being pregnant on a daily basis! X

BreadAndJam00 · 03/05/2017 18:43

Hello! Can i join? Got a positive last week and workerd out edd around 4th January. My GP is going to refer me to a midwife at 6-8weeks. Doesn't seem real just yet!

WLMcI · 03/05/2017 19:15

Megs I'm so sorry. I've been there too, and found the ttc after mc thread on here to be an absolute lifesaver. Take care of yourself! Flowers

Hotpinkangel19 · 03/05/2017 19:16

Hi, can I join you all? Got my BFP on 25th April, EDD is 28/12/17 if going by LMP. I ovulated late though so realistically it will be January xx 5w 6d today, have little cramping/pulling pains, sore boobs, horrible metallic taste and feel slightly queasy. X

sallywiththegoodhurr · 03/05/2017 19:30

Hello, I'm just dipping my toes in... hoping to join you all soon.

I've had the faintest line on a test yesterday and today so fingers crossed. If it does turn into a true BFP then I'll be due around the 14th Smile

WLMcI · 03/05/2017 20:12

Hotpink welcome, you're exactly as many weeks as me! Will be pleased to get to 6 weeks tomorrow Smile--I don't have many symptoms so I'm still not convinced I'm truly pregnant but every day convinces me more! Fingers crossed for you sally

Newhere123 · 03/05/2017 20:32

Hi ladies

Was just wondering if any of you, at this extremely early stage, with our sesame seed size babies, already feeling a tiny bump? I really hope the bump I have is not in fact a food bump :) but maybe due to body changes...? My mind could be playing tricks on me..! My boobs are quite sore, but other than that- haven't had too many symptoms.. should I be worried?

This is my first pregnancy, I'm about 5.5 weeks and EDD is Dec 30. I'm now waiting for my midwife appointment. Does anyone know how long it normally takes to get the referral letter? I really hope to get my scan soon, I'm not much of a patient person, I keep wondering 'what am I supposed to do now?'..

Am actually thinking of going for a private early scan....

ifeellikechickentonight · 03/05/2017 20:43

Hi newhere, I had a 'bump' from 6w in my last pregnancy caused by bloating, because pregnancy hormones mess up your digestion (may also notice more gas, ahem). My bloat bump was much bigger in the evenings, sometimes I looked 7 months preg by bedtime then had no bump at all in the morning! In a few weeks it will turn into the real bump although may take a while if you've got good abs, some skinny toned women have flat tummies at nearly 6 months (my abs are shit so I had a pretty big bump by 14 weeks first time around)

Assuming you're in the UK you will usually have a booking in appointment with a midwife between 8-10 weeks, it's blood tests and paperwork at that appointment, they don't scan or listen in with a Doppler.

The first actual scan is at 12 weeks give or take a few days. In my area they listen in with a Doppler at the 16 week midwife appointment but in some areas they don't until the 20 week check.

This all feels like ages away now but it will come around quickly!

I'll be shelling out the £80 for a private scan at 8 weeks because I'm far too impatient to wait!

millsbynight · 03/05/2017 20:57

Welcome newcomers! Grin

Newhere I didn't get an obvious bump till about 20 weeks with DS! It was obvious if I was wearing a skin-tight top but in normal clothes no one could tell. I never wore maternity jeans either, just a bandeau thing from around 13/14 weeks (although I gave up trousers in 3rd trimester and just wore floaty dresses) I need to whip my "baby on board" badge out as no one on the tube will believe me. Although I'm a lot fatter now than I was when pg with DS so who knows this time around Blush

Hotpinkangel19 · 03/05/2017 21:08

@WLMcI I am looking forward to seeing the 6 weeks mark! Have you got a date for the midwife appt yet? X
