So nice of Ms May to give us new mums something grown up and serious to read while up feeding at all hours instead of trawling mumsnet for something to keep us awake... I was quite looking forward to celeb drivel but adulting it is then! Got a feeling we'll be driving down to the polling station this time. Only missed one election and that was back in 2015 as we ended up going to Australia for dh's work for 6 months with just 3 weeks notice Shock I was more concerned about getting my 4 month old sorted rather than a postal vote, plus I'm a last minute decider too.

stationaryace · 18/04/2017 15:05

lullaby being up on Scotland it feels like all we do just now is vote. Trying not to get blasé about it, especially as we have local elections next month too.

lullaby23 · 18/04/2017 15:27

stationary not another referendum Wink

Barnes79 I've been having growth scans as the baby dropped below the 10th centile at 28 weeks having been measuring above the 50th before then. We've had 3 growth scans since 28 weeks, and the midwife had suggested that if the growth remained slow we may need to be induced at 38 weeks. We've just had our last growth scan this afternoon and the consultant estimated his birth weight to be 5lb 9. The doctors have said that although he's showing around the 10th centile which is small, they're not concerned as his growth has remained stable. Essentially as long as the baby is consistent within the centile growth, they seem happy to let them be.

teainbed · 18/04/2017 16:03

@Barnes79 if the growth scans are fine they'll go with those measurements that are more accurate than fundal height.

Northernexile · 18/04/2017 16:26

Barnes I've been having weekly growth scans and my section is planned for 39 weeks. Fundal measurements are notoriously inaccurate (scams can be too), so I wouldn't worry too much about that. My bump was measuring 33 weeks at 38 weeks last time. On growth scams we've stayed on the 9th centile the whole time, so smallish baby. They don't expect to see it going up the centiles, but are happy as long as it follows the curve for the 9th centile. Basically I was told if growth slows down/stops then baby will have to come out, hence the regular scans, but we've made it to 39 weeks now.

savagehk · 18/04/2017 16:37

barnes I think most likely is that you measure small again with bump, you are referred for another growth scan, growth scan shows baby still on 50th centile, and everything is fine. if your bump did suddenly go from 10th to 50th percentile they'd be more concerned as that's indication of potential too-much-fluid (polyhydros?! it has a name) which can be an issue. As others have said it's more to do with changes in the line you're following (especially if it tails off) rather than the absolute position IYSWIM.

Barnes79 · 18/04/2017 16:40

Northern Do you mind me asking if you've been having scans because you're on the 9th centile or for other reasons? Also are you on the 9th centile based on fundal height or the growth scans. I'm nowhere near the 10th centile (about 1.5 boxes below it on the graph) based on fundal height but they aren't monitoring with scans. I just had a one off scan after the first fundal height was found to be so low.

Barnes79 · 18/04/2017 16:42

Northern ignore me. I just re-read your post and you'd already said that info Blush

yellowismyfavourite · 18/04/2017 16:53

barnes I am being induced this Sunday because growth has slowed from around 50th centile at 29 weeks to 14th on Friday at 37 weeks based on growth scans. Asked mw today about it and she said concern is that the placenta is failing. Scan on Friday estimated weight at 6 lb so not a small baby though. I was told they would be more worried if it had dropped below 10th centile. Am obsessively monitoring movement but this baby is still wriggling away!

Had my second sweep today... progress has been made since Friday and mw was able to touch the top of babys head! 3rd attempt on Thursday but I don't think it will work. My hope is that it will help me to be ready for the pessary so I can still have a water birth... not possible if I need the drip!

Congratulations to those who got their school choices today. I find the politics around an election fascinating so am happy to be watching that in the middle of the night... Their timing is great!!

Barnes79 · 18/04/2017 17:02

Yellow good luck for Sunday - hopefully you won't need the drip

MrsJW15 · 18/04/2017 17:05

Yellow fingers crossed for Friday!

My movements are feeling a bit different today, a bit more uncomfortable, like baby has run out of room. Possibly just a position shift. I'm seeing MW tomorrow anyway but it's very hard to describe - it feels like baby is pushing much harder to move!

Also saw the physio today but not sure she does all that much... She said that they don't recommend swimming after 37 weeks in case you lose your plug in the pool and don't realise. Has anyone heard that before? I haven't! Am going to check with the MW - lots of people seem to keep swimming right up until the end.

savagehk · 18/04/2017 17:12

mrsjw surely it'd be stuck in your costume?! I'm intending to start swimming soon to try turn this baby from back to back!

savagehk · 18/04/2017 17:13

And so what if you do lose your plug!? If your waters went you could argue some kind of potential infection risk but just your plug...?

MrsJW15 · 18/04/2017 17:20

Her theory was just that if you lost the plug when swimming you might not know. To be honest it sounded quite odd to me!

savagehk · 18/04/2017 17:37

You'd be just as unlikely to know if you lost it in the shower or on the loo?!

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 18/04/2017 17:51

tea so good to hear your updates and thank you on tips like maternity pads! mighty got my fingers and toes crossed for you hope all ok jenny woohoo for school place yellow good luck for that water birth raspberry take it easy on that ankle barnes hope the scan shows more where you want to be

First proper day of maternity leave today, went shopping for all those bits and bobs folks have been recommending like the lavender oil. 4 hours walking round the same town I work in, felt a little like a busman's holiday! However have to chuckle at the election, that would have given me a few headaches but I'm sure my very capable maternity cover is on it!

There was mention of soft umbilical cord ties a couple of weeks ago, could someone remind me what they are called please? Having seen friends newborns plastic clamp I think I'm going to get a nicer one.

Sipperskipper · 18/04/2017 18:03

Yellow thinking of you, and counting down to Sunday!

Great news on the school jenny!

Hope all of you having growth scans are feeling OK. I've got a repeat scan on Tuesday (for big baby). Bloody sugars have been OK though.

Went in for monitoring again today (because of possible obstetric cholestasis), all OK. Midwife called me this evening after speaking with consultant who said that as bloods are borderline, I can come back and see him next week to discuss any next steps (possible induction, depending on bloods).

Still waiting for virology test results which are sent elsewhere - these are what I'm most worried about as a particular virus can cause problems for the baby. Although its just a liver screen for lots of things as part of the investigation for OC. I'm just a MASSIVE worrier!

Wondering how nursebickypegs is? Is she on the FB group? If you're reading, I'm thinking of you and hope all is OK.

Glad to hear you & that gorgeous baby are doing well tea.

Rockyroad17 · 18/04/2017 18:19

@mrsjw I asked this in the last thread as I swim a lot still and was worried my waters might go in the pool without realising. I also spoke to my midwife and they said definitely keep up the swimming as long as possible. I'll just have to keep an eye I guess Confused

I am so sure I'll be going beyond 40 weeks with this baby, it's hard to get my head around the fact that some of you have birth very clearly on the horizon!

Rustler74 · 18/04/2017 18:25

@MrsJW15 I will ask the midwife who does our aqua antenatal class tomorrow x

Been to meet up with a friend in Aylesbury and had a fabulous pancake at The Works, which I used to do more often when I lived there. Her son (5.5 years old) was ok in his behaviour to begin with but when he got a bit tired he was really spilling with his food and his mum just laughed it away. Not a miracle that he still hasn't learned basic table manners (he splattered his milk whilst drinking not 1, not 2 but 3 times ) . Trying to not get too annoyed but I think I'll be quite strict with our kid...
Back home now and knackered and uncomfortable!

coxsorangepippin · 18/04/2017 18:36

Crossing all my fingers and toes for you guys with births imminent - wishing you smooth births even if they happen a bit differently from planned!

Extra MW appointment for me tomorrow to check if baby has flipped transverse or has just discovered a new way to wiggle!

Northernexile · 18/04/2017 19:11

yellow that sounds very positive for your induction at the weekend- good luck! My two DDs ended up being 6lb 10oz after there being quite a bit of concern about slow growth, so not small either really. That's why I've had scans his time barnes, based on having had them the previous couple of times. I've only had one fundal height measurement this time as the midwife said it's even less accurate than the growth scan. Fingers crossed your scan will give you a clearer picture!
Congrats on getting your first choice jenny, great news. Hope all is well with you mightymouse and nurse15!

MrsJW15 · 18/04/2017 19:16

Thanks Rustler. Rocky she seemed more concerned about my plus than my waters! I'll also ask my MW. It sounded like very odd advice - and also frustrating as I want to swim on mat leave, not least because being in the water is so comfortable.

Wish I could figure out why baby feels so uncomfortable today! Hopefully MW will tell me tomorrow, maybe baby is just squished!

BouncingBlueberry · 18/04/2017 19:47

Hi all I've got my community midwife coming to the house tomorrow to do the sleeping check and to write the birth plan. I've cleaned the house from top to bottom, even shampooed the carpets. What on earth do I put in the plan. My mind has gone blank Confused

coxsorangepippin · 18/04/2017 20:05

bouncing what is the sleeping check?
