Hi all,

I'm another with heartburn easing off and suspect braxton hicks.
35week appt with midwife this morning and did my birth plan which essentially says I will do whatever recommended but ideally natural and no more than gas and air (I may live to regret that)!

Feeling absolutely drained, have had a cold which I haven't been able to shift for 3 weeks now, sweating to death whilst in the midwife and she was quite concerned. So glad I finish work on Friday - I work in quite a senior position and frankly haven't slowed down at all and my directors are not treating me like I'm at the later stages. I don't want special treatment but have been stressing all over the weekend about a meeting tomorrow to kick off a new major project which they seem to think I can do in a day - even though typically it would span a month or so. I'm not normally one to stress at all - I just crack on and always get things done, however now I was so tempted to ask midwife to sign me off when she started saying I shouldn't be carrying on.
Hopefully come Friday the sense of relaxation will hit and I will instantly feel better.

We had our first NCT class at the weekend and got last on next Saturday followed by my baby meal (meal out with friends instead of baby shower!). Then Sunday my hubby has taken control and said we are having a day doing nothing, watching films and slobbing on sofa - cannot wait!!

Can't believe the babies are starting to appear - I am hoping mine stays put for another couple of weeks to give me time to chill post finishing work! Xx

jennymac31 · 24/04/2017 14:52

I think I must be the only who's heartburn has started to crank back up again but I don't know if that's because my appetite has come back and I've been eating a bit more than usual.

Finished painting the bedroom and bathroom doors so am off for acupuncture, which will hopefully calm me down before the epic task of clearing out two bedrooms in prep for Carpet Right turning up tomorrow.

KLane · 24/04/2017 14:53

Thanks for the recipe suggestions @Autumnsweater @Rockyroad17 @savagehk Two breakfast options and dessert sorted! Think DH will be particular partial to the sticky toffee pudding Grin

FoxMulder · 24/04/2017 15:23

Everything that everyone seems to love...I don't! Swimming gives me heartburn, gym ball gives me back ache, don't get me started on baths! The reclined position is really uncomfortable. Never had a BH either. Not in last pg or this one. I do like sticky toffee pudding though!

savagehk · 24/04/2017 15:30

I had a bath last night fox but had to lie on my side (which I never do in the bath!). First this pregnancy I think (!). I don't get how people labour in a bath. I totally get labouring in a birthing pool sitting upright or on all fours though...

Rabbitykins55 · 24/04/2017 15:54

@jennymac31 my heartburn hasn't gone at all either. I was beginning to think it was just me!

1004Rise · 24/04/2017 16:06

@FoxMulder don't think I've had BH either Confused midwife did say today that I have a very responsive uterus Hmm (whatever that means!) so I may not need them....

My heartburn isn't going anywhere, I got excited and thought it had so stupidly stopped my magic pills... it came back with a vengeance so I'm not trying again!

I'm also finding the bath difficult, our current bath is tiny which doesn't help! I'm looking forward to going to my DPs as they have a slipper bath so I can get the depth without getting stuck Blush

stationaryace · 24/04/2017 16:25

I've taken the hint from last night and properly packed my hospital bag. At 37+1 it's probably time. Of course it's snowing quite a bit here so I'm bribing DD with TV (mostly Mr Tumble) to get her mind off going outside to play in it. I'm too big and immobile now for sledging or snow castles and DH won't be back in time to take her out. Stupid weather.

teainbed · 24/04/2017 16:30

Lying down is horrible at the end isn't it? I also had to lie on my side in the bath as I felt I would stop breathing if I lay on my back.

@stationaryace sounds sensible to avoid the snow, even just avoiding the risk of falling.

Well I got discharged today Star but BabyTea is still quite jaundiced so they're coming back on Saturday. As he's waking for feeds, weeing and pooing beautifully I hope it's just a case of ticking some boxes to say all is fine and maybe weighing him again. DD2 had quite prolonged breast milk jaundice but was also well.

Badgerbird · 24/04/2017 16:34

peach happy birthday Cake your pressie sounds awesome! I think I need one....

dream jenny you can get water based wood paint or just make sure area is very well ventilated. I've been doing lots of painting.... can you tell?? Wink

Hope last day at work and mw appointment went well rise. Know what you mean about baby coming, it's all such a crazy experience! Every time another gorgeous baby photo pops up on our thread I look at my tummy and go "really???! In there??!" Grin

Snow?!?? Shock

Rustler74 · 24/04/2017 16:36

Reflux not gone and now taking 2 omeprazole a day with gaviscon top up when needed!

OP posts:
FoxMulder · 24/04/2017 16:50

I keep waking up in bed on my back! That is still comfy it's just reclining that's not bizzarly.

Badger I also cannot believe there is a real baby in there!

1004Rise · 24/04/2017 17:06

@Badgerbird not last day, just last Monday still 4 days to go, but I'm not doing much so I'm sure I'll survive baby is now the right way and my birth plan is perfectly reasonable (whatever that means)!!

Yes snow! Although sounds like it's actually lying for @stationaryace Sadwe now have beautiful blue sky and you wouldn't know it had been!

Tickyboovicki · 24/04/2017 17:25

I swear pregnancy hormones are getting to an embarrassing level now, just cried my eyes out on the phone to Nationwide and then my mortgage broker, as they are being incredibly unhelpful with the house move and have slowed everything down but keep telling me stuff has already been done when it hasn't! Not a good day Angry

Autumnsweater · 24/04/2017 17:43

Bath is the only place I am comfortable! Weird as cannot recline on dry land. Think the water holds me up a bit.

I've been to the GPs today as I woke up crying again due to sudden onset left-sided hip pain, quite different to previous PGP and was limping quite badly. Rang midwife who told me to get to the GP for some codeine since paracetamol not cutting it. GP lovely and is getting the physio to ring me tmrw. So have been resting even more strictly than the new usual today Hmm, finishing knitting a baby cardigan. It's so sunny on the hills Sad can't wait to get up there again.

Very exciting all the impending arrivals!!

RasperryInAMelon · 24/04/2017 18:01

@dreamofhungarianlanterns my heart Burn started to die down but has seemingly picked up again 😩

@1004Rise I had my birth plan MW appointment too - LO is 3/5 engaged - but she's said until I've seen the consultant on Thursday she won't do the plan with me so next appt is on the 9th when I'll be 38 weeks 🙈

@crazyzooo pleased you're being looked after in the hospital

@newbieho how are you feeling this afternoon?

Happy Birthday @PeachIcedT 🎉

@teainbed I can't believe your 10 days out already!

@MrsJW15 thanks for the ASOS tip - I'll have a nosey in a mo!

@mrspage1985 your weekend sounds lovely!

@savagehk I spent 4 hours in the bath this afternoon 🙈 DH bought me a neck cushion which was a saving grace and then I spent the rest of the afternoon sat in the nursery in the nursing chair watching tv on the iPad.

ShiniBerry · 24/04/2017 18:35

Hello ladies, so another one with an unplanned baby update - i had an appointment with the consultant today who basically said she strongly advises not going to to 40 weeks and being induced at 39 weeks as the baby is so large and because of my GD. So I've been booked in for a membrane sweep on Wednesday to see if that gets things going and an induction on Saturday. Not really how i planned on things going but they said at this point it's the best course of action for safety of the baby and because of my GD and i can't really argue against it or go against medical advice. I have a scan on Friday and if it looks like the baby is over 5kg, we might have to discuss a c/section. I'm a bit concerned as this will be a bank holiday weekend, but hopefully as the hospital is a massive university hospital with a dedicated maternity/foetal building there will be enough staff. So things are happening a bit earlier than planned and I'm still processing the fact that my countdown has been cut down by a whole week! Of course not counting that baby might decide to come even earlier!!!

savagehk · 24/04/2017 18:52

shini have you had regular growth scans?

Sipperskipper · 24/04/2017 19:04

Hope you are ok shini. Sounds like they are keeping a close eye on you.

I can't speak for your hospital, but certaintly when I've been in for monitoring over recent weekends there have been registrars, consultants and lots of experienced midwives.

Keep us posted, will be thinking of you!

1004Rise · 24/04/2017 19:12

@ShiniBerry at this point even one week is a bit of a shock! Sounds like they're looking after you though, am I right in thinking they've been monitoring you for most of your pregnancy for this very reason? You do sound quite calm about it all Flowers

ShiniBerry · 24/04/2017 19:21

Just updated on everyone's posts so massive catch up post ahead!

What a lovely shower Raspberry and glad you're feeling better! (the constant burping is the WORST!)

Yellow and CrazyZoo hope all is well, good luck! Flowers

Clairesunflower and KLane hope you've enjoyed your first days of maternity leave

Hope your acupuncture session went well Jenny*, i've had two sessions with the hospital affiliated acupuncturist, they went OK, though she stuck actual seeds in my right ear to be kept for 3 days which I thought a bit odd...Hmm

Hope you're feeling better Newbieho sucky timing if it is a virus Flowers

SavageHK those breathing techniques sound very useful, i'm hoping to get through most of labour using similar techniques

Happy Birthday PeachIcedTea Cake your sun lounger gift sounds amazing!

Can't believe it's been 10 days already Teainbed glad to hear you've been discharged. Hope BabyTea's jaundice resolves soon!

Barnes for me BH makes my whole bump goes super tight for a while, and eventually goes away. If it's just baby stretching, the area where baby isn't in (like the other side/sides) doesn't feel tight-if that makes sense.

Sounds rough MrsPage, just a few days more to maternity leave!

My heartburn went away for a week or so and is back again with a vengeance Sad

SavageHK my last growth scan was at 34+ weeks before my GD was picked up. Baby has grown quite a bit since then (I look extremely lopsided and like i'm having twins!). They don't think the baby will be as large as 5kg as the GD has been controlled since 36+ weeks, but to be sure they will check at Fridays scan as a precaution I guess.

SipperSkipper this was the first consultant appointment since my GD diagnosis. The previous consultant told me then not to worry as I didn't have GD at the time. It's been only the midwives since then. But yes, since the GD diagnosis at 36 weeks i've had lots of monitoring.

1004Rise definitely, a week less for planning and getting ready is a shock. Everything we had planned over the next 12 days has to be condensed into 5 days!

EsmesBees · 24/04/2017 19:26

You do sound calm Shini. As long as baby turns up safely that's the main thing, even if it's not how you imagined.

Ticky moving is super stressful anyway, so adding late pregnancy in to the mix has got to be really tough. Be kind to yourself.

Actually got some storage and furniture sorted in what will become the baby's room today. Plus, the shutters have now been fitted. So it's looking much less like a dumping ground now. Very happy things are finally getting sorted.

teainbed · 24/04/2017 20:00

@ShiniBerry hope you're feeling ok, bit of a shock I'm sure but sounds like the safest option. Good luck.

CoxsOrangePippin · 24/04/2017 20:12

Question for the experienced mamas, do I need a nursing bra from the start? Can't I just tuck the fabric of my current bra down on itself while feeding? Thinking I don't want to buy new bras before knowing what size I'll settle down at.

newbieho · 24/04/2017 20:19

Good luck @ShiniBerry the things may not be going according to the plan but it's reassuring you are monitored.
