@Nurse15 glad everything has settled and you are back home. barnes good luck for the scan @teainbed 4 hours of feeding... wow that's a big feed!!! @1004Rise try olive oil ear drops... although I have always been told to get ear problems checked with the GP first especially if also painful...

coxsorangepippin · 19/04/2017 15:34

badger its great if you want to look sexy, go for it! I am rather enjoying being (ahem) voluptuous for the first time. Never mind that the rest of me looks like a Weeble, it's nice to find something to enjoy Smile

newbieho · 19/04/2017 15:37

@MrsJW15 thanks for checking on swimming and letting us know.

MrsE84 · 19/04/2017 15:41

Hi everyone. I'm a bit late to this party. Due 30 May with my second and feeling in need of some chat! Maternity leave can be a lonely old business when you've only got a 2 year old to talk to most of the day!

To jump in on the dummy conversation, with my DD we ended up having to give her a dummy simply because she would have been attached to my boob the whole time otherwise. She was a real comfort sucker, which is adorable at first, but the novelty wears off when your nipples are raw and they won't settle!

newbieho · 19/04/2017 15:41

I saw the MW today and she seems to be concerned by my sausage lookalike swollen feet. Follow up appointment booked for next week. Hope all goes well and my birth plan in MLU does not go out of the window Confused

teainbed · 19/04/2017 16:05

No problem @newbieho and hope your midwife appointment goes well next week. Smile

BabyTea had his heel prick done, was a total star and didn't even cry (but he was just fed and drunk to the world). Got weighed and only lost 7% of his birthweight which was good too (you'd get sent back to hospital if it was more than 10%).

FoxMulder · 19/04/2017 16:06

I've got the mw coming round on Friday for my 36 week check. Thought that was because I'm planning a home birth. She won't have anything to look at if she wants to see sleeping arrangements because I plan to bedshare! We do have a cosleeper cot in the attic that I will retrieve at some point! I've read so much on safe bedsharing since having my little boy. The Japan example comes up a lot (bedsharing and breastfeeding are the norm there and SIDS is really rare. They don't have a name for it apparently! Wonder if all that is totally true).

savagehk · 19/04/2017 16:17

fox I had the 36w MW check at home too to drop off the birth box (last week), she didn't ask anything about sleeping etc but did go through the birth plan. They also check there are things like plugs / parking / etc

FoxMulder · 19/04/2017 16:39

Apparently they don't drop stuff off in advance anymore here. They just go to hospital to get it before coming round. Slightly disappointing.

Barnes79 · 19/04/2017 16:58

Scan done and all okay, with LO measuring on 70th centile based on scan (despite. being minus 70 on fundal height). The sonographer was at a loss as to how the two measurements could give such different readings. Confused On the plus side, LO is still head down rather than being breech as the midwife thought this morning. Turns out he must just have a "pert bottom" instead...

Badger pub is indeed fab, would recommend to anyone passing through our neck of the woods and I'm sure you'll look ace at your party. I have a wedding 5 days before due date and if I make it am planning to accessorise a nice maxi dress with a winning smile until I borrow the honeymoon suite for a nap

Barnes sounds like good news and head down is great, I love stroking my bumps little bottom Grin

babytea well done you on keeping the weight on. Another one here saying yes please to sharing all your little tips and thoughts!

Welcome mrsE

Off to have a look round the midwife led unit this evening, excited to see it after lots of recommendations

MrsJW15 · 19/04/2017 18:29

Badger what did you get?! Getting dressed up in pregnancy is so tricky, but I've definitely got cleavage I never had before!

Thanks Rustler. Definitely planning to keep swimming!

EsmesBees · 19/04/2017 18:41

Welcome MrsE. My toddler had a dummy as a newborn for the same reasons.

Great news Barnes. Although mad how different the two measurements are.

Hopefully the swollen ankles will go down before the big day newbie. What are they concerned about?

Tea sounds like both you and the baby are doing amazingly. You sound remarkably unfrazzled despite having 3 other DCs!

The birth box sounds like something from call the midwife savage! What does it contain?

Done in here. Very busy day at work But not back in the office now until Tuesday and that's only for the morning. Trying to do as many days working from home as I can.

coxsorangepippin · 19/04/2017 18:45

With the cotton cord ties, do you need to sterilise them?

stationaryace · 19/04/2017 19:15

cox no you don't because they sit on baby skin, not exposed to the insides. But you can if you like and the place I linked to sends instructions on sterilising if you want to. I'm going to just keep it unopened in the bag and staple it to my notes, along with instructions to ---> USE THIS!

PeachIcedT · 19/04/2017 19:53

Good luck to all those who are booked in to have their babies, missed a lot of this thread trying to read through as best as I can!

Had last NCT class yesterday on breastfeeding, which was good, but as is expected from NCT, slightly overplayed the benefits in my opinion. I can't help feeling all the mentioned positives will put some of us under pressure to succeed. One thing I had no idea about is that baby actually takes in a fair bit of breast tissue to suckle.

Had 36 week midwife appointment today - she was impressed with my birth plan so thanks to everyone here for your input on that. I had a much nicer midwife than my usual one today which was great. Did have to remind her about MRSA swab- oh my it was just not glamorous- one swab stuck up the nose, one at back of throat (gag gag gag) and then the delightful perineum! She was then unsure if the kit had expired (!) but no worries as if so I can just do it again...

Baby is still head down but head is now slightly to the side, I'm hoping this isn't a sign of her wanting to turn? Hoping at this stage that'd be too difficult for her to do.

savagehk · 19/04/2017 20:27

esmes I've not actually looked :)

mrspage1985 · 19/04/2017 20:54

Peach - I had my MrSA done in hospital at 20 week scan. Hopefully won't need it again and certainly not those areas of swabbing!!

My NCT classes start on Saturday - this week and next week! Looking forward to them.

Is anyone having the step b testing - I have booked in to have it at 36+1. Had to lay privately as they don't offer it at my hospital as routine.

7 days left in work - and a big project drop that the briefing is next Tuesday and expectations is for me to complete by Friday. Typically this should take around 3 weeks to complete - bit of a joke but not doing to let it stress me out! Am on countdown to next Friday!

Tea I'm loving hearing about how your newborn is getting on. I can't wait till writing similar updates!! X

vanilla8 · 19/04/2017 21:13

@mrspage1985 I was looking at getting a private strep test but I read a tip of complaining to midwife that you have excessive discharge and they will then most probably test for it, so I am going to try this at my 36 week appointment next week!

MissMooMoo · 19/04/2017 21:40

I have been gifted a cord tie and it arrived i the post today! I will take it to my appt on Sat and ask the MW if they will do it at my hospital, I can't see why not.
I have a strep B testing kit to do too, I probably wouldn't have even remembered to do it but my sister tested positive for it so she reminded me that its important.

Tickyboovicki · 19/04/2017 21:42

I think it's so interesting hearing about the differences between locations, had my MRSA today (2 weeks late!) and was just swab up each nostril.

Also big thanks to the ladies who recommended oils for post labour to me earlier, managed to get lavender, tea tree and witch hazel in town so feeling a little more prepared. Slightly daunting that my next midwife appointment is 40+1 for first sweep!

beanturnipandspud · 19/04/2017 22:47

Forgot who said what, and lost my post 😡😡😡👊🏼

From what I remember:

👋🏼 to mrsE and welcome

tea you sound like you are doing amazing. Have you named babyTea yet? (No need to share the name, more wondering if you've managed to find the one) ... we are still arguing over names.
As for co-sleeping, we have bought a sleepyhead this time. But bean never slept with us and still doesn't, Turnip slept right next to us in a crib but then made it into our bed from early on, I woke one night with her on my chest and it scared Me, so we decided that consciously cosleeping was a better choice. I think sleep deprived me isn't a nice me and I am not the best mummy, so cosleeping works for us. It didn't last forever, she still gets in our bed occasionally and enjoys a sleepover as a treat when daddy is on a stag do 😊 think that's more that I don't like an empty bed 🙈

Cord ties ... I've bought some thread and was going to try and make our own. Do you think this will be ok?

So I was at hospital yesterday due to reduced movement, of course spud thought it was all a game and began to dance as soon as the monitors were on him. However, midwives tracked some contractions, so kept me on the monitor a while longer to check them. They've told me to keep an eye on them as they're braxtons but braxtons can develop into labour quickly on 3rd babies supposedly. And as I'm 35wks tomorrow would be a little early for him.

Also to whoever wants to be sexy .... (sorry I've forgotten who posted) ... there is nothing wrong with that. Although I can't possibly imagine feeling sexy for a long while yet. I long for the day I can get up without feeling like I am 80! 😂

Sorry if I've missed any big or small news.
Also, anybody heard from @nursebickypegs recently? Hope you're ok xxx 😘

beanturnipandspud · 19/04/2017 22:50

Oh @Tickyboovicki lavender oil is amazing! I swear by it. Put 3-4drops with some milk in a bath after labour ... will ease and soothe. I also put a drop on my pads.

The other essential oil I think I may try this time is clary sage for labour. I have to have this in my notes incase any pregnant midwives come to my labour as they won't be able to attend, but clary sage oil is meant to help with pain relief and advancing labour. So think I may give it a whirl.

Teaspoon74 · 19/04/2017 22:57

MrsPage m also on countdown to end if next week. Cannot. Wait!

Peach just had the NCT breastfeeding class. Some useful bits and not too preachy. One more class (girls only, tomorrow eve) and then that's it until our post baby get together.

Autumnsweater · 19/04/2017 23:08

Ooh I bought some lavender oil yesterday! Do you put it neat on the pads @beanturnipandspud ?

Had a letter through the post inviting me to an NHS infant feeding session in two weeks.

Have my second growth scan tomorrow then a meeting with the consultant.
