Just thought I'd better kick a new one off...
Another day, another tearful outburst at work! It's getting very embarrassing Is it just me who feels like crying at the drop of a hat? Maybe it's lack of sleep, just not dealing very well with things that would not normally bother me, then something really small sets me off. cried in the toilets for 20 minutes today! Can't even explain why. Is this normal still at this stage?

Hello all. Sorry for all of you not sleeping. Weirdly, in our household it's DH who's lying awake at night (lots going on at work - he's quite wired at the mo) - I feel bad because I'm happily sleeping through it, and snoring to boot...
Bread makers: don't do it. I did it once, you use it a few times, it gets relegated. And the bread's fine, but so's lovely bread fresh from the bakery. Dutchy bread is super-yummy and Ocado deliver it, too.
Names: I love Zoe. Really nice, and also I don't think it's overly common at the moment is it? Whereas there are probably going to be lots of little Siennas running around.
Botox: yes please!!! Doggus, have been inspired by you - am booking wax and pedicure for this Friday. Now here's a question: bikini wax v. birth. Just which is more painful?

foxybrown · 14/03/2007 12:30

you don't get yummy gas and air with a bikini wax!

BadZelda · 14/03/2007 13:48

I don't know about the 'banned list' - Tuna is supposed to be eaten in moderation due to high levels of mercury in many fish stocks - but that's certainly no reason to stay off it completely. It's about common sense at the end of the day. I'll eat sushi, occasionally - as it's a brilliant protein source -but ensure that the fish has been frozen first (which kills the parasites that make fresh sushi a no-no). I take most of these lists with a pinch of salt. As someone else pointed out, runny eggs probably aren't that dangerous either, given that there's a pretty low incidence of salmonella in this country. Similarly ham, etc isn't going to kill you if it's fresh. I've found being lighter this preg than my last has made a huge difference to how I feel: generally fit, well and energetic. Last time I had horrible back and pelvic pain for months on end, that in the final analysis was self-inflicted due to being overweight, pigging out and thinking pregnancy was an excuse to do no excercise. I suffered for that approach and I'm certainly not putting myself through that again! Of course the fact that I'm married to a brilliant cook who tends to cook pretty healthy food helps a lot. But really at the end of the day I don't have a sweet tooth: I'm more likely to crave fresh lemons than chocolate - so I can't really claim any credit there...

foxybrown · 14/03/2007 13:59

Ham? I've not heard that that's one to be careful of. Can you expand please?

There was something in the paper last week suggesting tuna shouldn't be eaten by pregnant woment.

I'm choosing to ignore a lot of it, but hey, its no. 4 - no-one expects you to stick to the rules! In fact no-one expects you to get out of my pj's before the school run (although accessoring them with a plastic food clip to hold my hair back was a bit unnecessary and should have been removed before leaving the house!).

marylou23 · 14/03/2007 14:00

Whoa, logged on twenty minutes ago and Mumsnet had disappeared... feared the worst and felt suddenly stranded... Very relieved you're all still here.
BZ, I'm renaming you GoodZelda! I think you're absolutely right, although have just scoffed cheddar and salad baguette followed by chocolate rice krispie cake. Still, have an Ocado shop arriving this morning with more fruit than you could shake a stick at so am obviously going to become paragon of virtue from now on
I think they should consider gas and air for bikini waxes. Fab idea...

foxybrown · 14/03/2007 14:01

bugger! forgot to order the fruit and veg ...

Daisybump · 14/03/2007 14:22

On the second and third baby fronts....have a look at this thread . It had me pmsl and it seems so so true.

Only been off line for a day and there's so much to catch up on...we are a chatty lot aren't we.

Having lots of pain and discomfort under my ribs on the RH side today...simultaneous with trampolining on cervix so obviously bubba is stretching and finding it a n=bit cramped in there...oh joy, and it's only gonna get worse. I'm not so smug now about my weight either...I seem to have exploded over the weekend and have put on 6lbs literally overnight and my bump looks huge all of a sudden. Bought some maternity blouses for work, which barely even cover my bump and I hate that exposed bit at the bottom (the world and his wife do not need to see my stretchmarks). Thankfully only two and a half weeks left to go, than I can slob out wearing my jammies around the house all day

foxybrown · 14/03/2007 15:03

oh, I saw PMSL! Its all so true! I was the WORST precious mom, it makes me cringe.

Topshop sell those bump bands for a fiver

foxybrown · 14/03/2007 15:04

Is it time for afternoon tea?

doggus · 14/03/2007 15:16

Botox roolz ladies, but don't forget I am an ancient 39 so most of you have a good few years to go. I've also had fillers, but they hurt like hell so be warned. I think they are worse than a bikini wax, Marylou, and you look like you've been smashed in the face for a week.

BadZelda - I am in awe. I know what you mean about keeping the weight down, I am doing 20-30 minutes walking a day (which I know is paltry) as my effort. But as for lemons over choccie....

Daisy - I feel your trampling on the cervix pain...does that mean you are breach btw?

H&A - I hope you are having a smashing kip as I write.

Foxy - thanks for the advice on ante-natal classes, i am going to ring right now and book.

BadZelda · 14/03/2007 15:27

Oh don't be fooled...there's a lot of good reasons I'm known as BADzelda ;) That PFB thread was very funny, wasn't it? Must get out of the habit of telling my daughter she's the BEST GIRL IN THE WORLD as we're expecting another girl...although I am promising myself she will have SOME new clothes. Certainly noticed it in respect to pregnancy...last time I was out buying maternity clothes at 10 weeks. This time I just curse at the staff in my local Mothercare and can't bring myself to spend hard-earned cash on the crap they fob us off with, so I've been wearing whatever is big enough to fit and doing strange stuff with layering dresses and t-shirts.

R.e. the question about Ham - it can pose a risk of listeria (well cold cuts generally) if not properly refrigerated. Personally I have a pretty good nose and don't eat stuff that smells off...again down to common sense I think.

The stuff in the papers last week was as usual rather alarmist when looked at in detail. Yes, there are unacceptably high levels of mercury in some kinds of fish - so you should limit what you eat. That's no reason to avoid a good foodstuff completely though.

sputnik · 14/03/2007 15:30

(Runs in, panting) Am I in time for those scones then? Sorry I haven't had time for any baking myself, could pop out and get some canoli, I suppose.

So glad to hear about all your scoffing, I've been the same. I finish my usually healthy lunch and think hmm, what can I eat now? No real junk, just tonnes.

Seansgirl · 14/03/2007 15:30

Oh Oh Foxy, I'm sorry I'm late have just got back from park with a raging thirst for a cuppa and some nice virtual scones and clotted cream..... all this talk of Ocado think I'll just have to give it ago, I just need to find the £30 off voucher that DH had! Should be amongst this junk somewhere

And long live bump bands I say they are fab! Mine are a permanent fixture as most maternity jeans do not sit still and keep slipping down!

Seansgirl · 14/03/2007 15:34

What are canoli Sputnik? They sound like something yummy are they? (Mouthwatering in anticipation)

sputnik · 14/03/2007 15:42

Sort of a pastry tube stuffed with sweet ricotta with a few chocolate chips thrown in. It's a Sicillian delicacy. I'll pass you some virtual ones, go on, try one....

Seansgirl · 14/03/2007 15:50

mmmmmmm...... thanks Sputnik - aaahhh! look DD likes them too all round her chops! Think the girls would like them too - here you lot try one of these they are fab!

Seansgirl · 14/03/2007 15:51

Thinking about it Sputnik am impressed you were running just to get here to the virtual tea!

Seansgirl · 14/03/2007 15:52

But where is the hostess with the mostess or more importantly scones?

sputnik · 14/03/2007 15:55

By the way, I'm sort of panicing too about the transition from one to two. We have settled into a nice comfy unit, sounds silly but I ask myself how I can love anyone as much as DD. She is such a cuddlesome thing too, and very attached to me. Foxybrown, when you talk about the guilt, do you mean guilt about neglecting no.1 or no.2, or both? I'm just worried that I'm going to end up feeling like neither of them is getting enough of my attention.

sputnik · 14/03/2007 15:57

Well more of a waddle actually.

Yeah, where are the sconesest?

foxybrown · 14/03/2007 16:12

Earl Grey or PG?

Seansgirl · 14/03/2007 16:16

Thanks Foxy, PG of course! What do you think of the canoli?

sputnik · 14/03/2007 16:17

PG for me too, ta.

So, Foxybrown, talk to us about guilt.

Seansgirl · 14/03/2007 16:18

Spuntnik - I know exactly what you mean how could we love anyone as much as no1? But I suppose, if that were true no-one would have 1,2,3,4, or more? I'm the eldest of three and I know that DPs love us all equally. Maybe it'll just take time in getting used to!

foxybrown · 14/03/2007 16:18

Sorry ladies, school pick up (dur!)

Prune & Banana muffin? Scone?

I think the guilt was that no. 2 was going to take my love, time and energy away from no. 1, so I totally overcompensated with DS1. The fact of the matter is that newborns actually require very little in the early weeks, so there really isn't an issue. You learn to let no 2 cry perhaps a wee bit longer than you would have let no 1 cry, and it does no harm. No 1 in many ways still takes priority - you have to attend to their needs first almost. Things like giving baby a feed, no 2 could be howling, but unless no 1 is settled and occupied, you aren't going to give no 2 a decent feed. Tea time was my worse time. Tried to do everything at the same time. Eventually I learnt to take my time and stagger things, so it all takes longer but is alot less fraught, so its a good trade off.

More cream?
