Just thought I'd better kick a new one off...
Another day, another tearful outburst at work! It's getting very embarrassing Is it just me who feels like crying at the drop of a hat? Maybe it's lack of sleep, just not dealing very well with things that would not normally bother me, then something really small sets me off. cried in the toilets for 20 minutes today! Can't even explain why. Is this normal still at this stage?

At least it was motivated emotionally. I cried when Kat in Eastenders told Zoe she was 'er muvva'. OK, that was my last pregnancy, but possibly one of my lowest moments!!

sputnik · 09/03/2007 18:04

Marylou, on the wedding thing, agree with what Lilkel said. Maybe you could do a trial run beforehand with your mum and the EBM, while you're out of the room, as babies can be funny about these things, although at 3 weeks it should be ok. One of my regrets was not getting DD used to taking EBM out of a bottle and from someone else. By the time we tried, at about 10 weeks, she just wasn't having it, and that was me stuck for the next 6 months.

Don't know if I was just lucky with the BF, but, after the initial painful 10 days or so I didn't have any more problems with sore nipples, and didn't need breast pads either. So don't assume it'll be bad!

Nice to see you Trace2, hope you feel better soon, you should pop in here more often.

hollyandalice · 09/03/2007 18:09

trace2 and willywonka. Hope everything is ok for you both.

BTW I didn't mean bfing was painful (well it is to start with, but you get through it) it's just engorgement is horrific! Your boobs go really hard and hot and all you want to do is get the milk out! Apart from that bfing is much preferable to bottle feeding. I am a very lazy person and couldn't be arsed to clean and sterilse bottles and make milk etc. Bfing is def the way forward!!

hollyandalice · 09/03/2007 18:10

Woah, didn't mean to sound like the bfing police there!

sputnik · 09/03/2007 18:16

There was a really funny thread here a while ago about the stupidest things you've cried over while pg.

sputnik · 09/03/2007 18:17

God forbid H&A
Second you on the laziness aspect!

willywonka · 09/03/2007 18:19

H&A - is your bathroom sparkling now?

marylou23 · 09/03/2007 18:20

You didn't at all. I'm all for ease, which in my book is a good enough reason to breastfeed on its own! Your story about milk squirting, though, made me think of the Fembots in Austin Powers, tee hee

hollyandalice · 09/03/2007 18:29

My bathroom is beautiful!! Well apart from the window, but I'll do that tomorrow!

I'm well known amongst my friends for my leaky boobs!! Because I bfed for so long whenever I went out I'd have to make sure I had breast pads aplenty in my bag. All my friends had to keep an eye on my top for the wet patches!

foxybrown · 09/03/2007 18:33

I envy those who haven't had a problem BF. Mine always starts off with something painful, cracked nipples, thrush, blocked ducts - but I've never given up and its always come good and been the best thing (also far to lazy to sterilise). This one being the last, I'll probably bf her like in the Little Britain sketch!!

foxybrown · 09/03/2007 18:35

i used breast shells to get some air to sore boobs, they fit in your bra and are quite good. But you see they collect milk as opposed to absorb and have holes in the top. Bit embarrassing when you forget they are there and bend over .... puddles on the floor!!!

doggus · 09/03/2007 18:41

I cried at Crufts too, not only at the 'helper' hero dogs but when the judges judged the winners I cried for the losing dogs . I am watching again tonight, it was hilarious when the presenters' dogs all savaged the little toy dogs of their breed.

foxybrown · 09/03/2007 19:46

oooh, thats better. kids in bed, large lime and soda (where's the vodka?). DP away so a night of MY telly. Lovely!

hollyandalice · 09/03/2007 19:46

I love crufts, I'm really sad and love dogs! I am really hankering after one atm, but it's not really practical for us. Maybe in a couple of years. I like to look at the different breeds and decide which one I would have. Dp thinks I'm a weirdo for watching it! Maybe I am !

I was going to get some of those shell thingys last time foxy, but wasn't really sure how they worked. They look a bit scary! I had to use nipple shields for 3 months because I couldn't get used to the sucking, it really hurt! I def couldn't have carried on bfing without them!

foxybrown · 09/03/2007 19:49

those shells were alright, i'll use them again. they apply continuous gentle pressure to help engorgement - and you can sterilise them and use the milk. Saves all that wringing out breastpads into bottles .....

hollyandalice · 09/03/2007 19:51

I'm supposed to be going out tonight. It's my best friend's birthday, but I don't know if I can face it. I'm really knackered and dp isn't home yet and I've got a back ache from all the cleaning! The last thing I want to do tonight is watch other people get pissed! Am I selfish for not going? She'll understand, but I haven't seen her for ages and I'll feel really guilty if I don't go. IKWYM foxy, I've been craving lager for days now and going out might make it worse!

foxybrown · 09/03/2007 19:59

I'm rubbish at forcing myself out in the dark! I know just how you feel. Take her our for a treat to make up for it!

hollyandalice · 09/03/2007 20:02

I'm rubbish at forcing myself out...full stop!! She's coming round for dinner on Mon, so maybe I'll make her a homemade quiche, it's her fave!!

foxybrown · 09/03/2007 20:04

do you blind bake the pastry and everything??!! Am impressed H&A!!

hollyandalice · 09/03/2007 20:12

No, I don't bother I don't mind the pastry a bit soft on the bottom! I love cooking, but am rubbish at all other aspects of housewifery! Hence the frenzied cleaning today!

foxybrown · 09/03/2007 20:19

I recently 'got' cooking, always been purely functional/nutritional, then I realised that actually it was creative, interesting, and got me away from the kids without feeling guilty as I was still doing something 'mumsy'. Then I got pregnant, went off everything except bread & butter pudding. which is where i'm heading right now.

bumperlicious · 09/03/2007 20:43

at the bf stories. Just when you thought you'd lost all your dignity! Just out of interest would anyone recommend an electric or manual pump. The electric one's look a bit scary to me...!

Booked a hair cut today. Now I've just got to decide what to have done. Problem is this is what I really want my hair to look like, but this is more like what my hair looks like (without the poofy bit) I need a style that suits dead straight v fine hair. Any tips?

Also bought some lurvely bath ballistics from Lush so going to have a relaxing bath tonight, before facing the hell on earth that will be the NCT nearly new sale I'm going to tomorrow. My friend's advice was 'if you vaguely like something just stick it in your bag - nothing sticks around for very long, it can get very competitive'!

Feeling pretty good today for a change. Actually got a fairly good nights sleep for a change. Plus the little bit of retail therapy helped. And the 2 donuts I ate for my lunch! Hmmm, think I have a Crunchie somewhere...

Btw, sorry - I started a new thread without announcing it on the old one! Rookie mistake!

Laughing about NCT comment Bumper. I made DH come with me to one a couple of weeks ago and it was a scary experience!! Like a jumble sale but with pregnant hormones all over!! We go some fab stuff though which made it all worthwhile. (not sure if DH would agree- think he was somewhat traumatised!)

I've been lying on sofa tonight and baby has been kicking and for first time i've actually SEEN his foot kicking rather than just feel it!! Weird but very lovely...

doggus · 09/03/2007 21:17

Bumper - you have the opposite problem to me - I have very thick curly hair on which I spend £200 every six months to have it straightened (Yuko). I can't have it done while I am pg though so I look rubbish. How long is your mop? You could make it look thicker with layers and texturiser. And colour can thicken hair too.

On BF - does expressing hurt? I am a bit wary - I had a trauma when I watched my friend express and the milk was turning pink from her bloody nipples .
