Everyone in the area seems to shoot down this particular hospital but I have been impressed so far with the care I have received. No appointments have run late, midwives are all understanding and caring and the big seller for me was that they had 9 birth rooms in the birthing centre/midwife led unit and ALL of them had pools and the fact that DH can stay.
Hope our experience is good after I have said all that.
I am having lots of lower back/period type cramps today. Baby is very active and keeps stretching out and pressing on my cervix.
Last week of work, can't believe we are all so close now!

Autumnsweater · 10/04/2017 13:20

Marathon read through after a weekend internet free! Hope everyone enjoyed the sun!

DP and I are 30 and having our first, have been together for 12 years since sixth form! Married for five. Think it does really depend on your social circle whether you think we're old or young parents we've had both responses!! I've also had a few people tell me they didn't think I wanted kids Confused think I've been stereotyped as a career woman Hmm.

@Barnes sounds like you're doing all the right things and being proactive with your dog. IME that's what leads to success - it's people who haven't taken things seriously who generally end up with a problem. Have got a stash of Adaptil in for when the baby comes as well?

yellowismyfavourite · 10/04/2017 13:22

rise think these babies like to keep us worrying! Hope the ball persuades him/her to turn...
missmoomoo glad you had such a lovely weekend. Your birth centre sounds amazing. Here there is 3 rooms and only 2 with birthing pools... and then you get sent to postnatal ward so DH can't stay there. Hoping not to spend lots of time on the ward would rather be at home.
nurse it's good you have a slightly better idea of the plan even if it sounds a little stressful with baby's weight... These estimates can be out though so he might be smaller than you think

Our neighbours just came round to point out a missing tile on our roof. Hope it doesn't cost too much to fix as we could do without the expense!

Rockyroad17 · 10/04/2017 13:31

@Autumn - I can think of much worse things to be stereotyped as!

I think I might have to make a concerted effort to empty the freezer over the next couple of weeks - all of the previous suggestions and now breast milk syringes too Grin

I had a pregnancy massage over the weekend and it was glorious. Can't remember who had said they hadn't had the expected 'hole in the bed' thing - mine did! It was so lovely lying on my front... especially as that was the only way I could sleep before I got pregnant. Turns out that's not the case - I've been sleeping just as well on my side. Think I'll add 'good at sleeping' to my list of talents.

Barnes79 · 10/04/2017 14:03

Autumn I'm off to the vets later with the dog (they asked if he'd need to be muzzled) - I said no cos he loves the vets, it's just close family he has issues with. She laughed BlushI'm hoping for the behaviourist referral and will no doubt buy a shed load of adaptil...

MissMoo that sounds amazing!

I need decorating advice! Have cream carpets and curtains (inherited when we bought the house, which are good condition) and don't know what colour to do the walls. We have kind of a bright zoo/safari theme and have bought some pictures for the room. Any suggestions on paint colour?

Mrscrocopop yes, it's grim. I now think that was what it was as I've had nothing else. More pregnancy glam.

Rise how annoying! Get on that ball - hopefully it will get the baby moving.

Rocky I really want a pregnancy massage! My back is so painful, especially in the middle. It's my birthday next week and I think DH or my sisters have organised some kind of spa day for me. I really hope so!

EsmesBees · 10/04/2017 14:30

Oh that's a shame she's turned Rise. I've heard acupuncture recommended to help them turn.

Nurse don't worry too much about the weight of the baby. I've known a few people predicted monster babies and induced early, only to give birth to very average sized babies.

Barnes no idea, I'm clueless when it comes to that sort of thing (our entire house is off white and grey), but nice pictures.

nursebickypegs · 10/04/2017 14:31

Just a quick pop in; Boots have the Baby Dove selection for £1 each. Managed to get a few bits and tbh they smell so nice that if Bub doesn't like them, I'll use them myself Smile

nursebickypegs · 10/04/2017 14:34

@EsmesBees our OBGYN doesn't understand it, as my GTT results are fine. They weighed me, I've gained 7lbs (thought it was 10), so everyone is a bit confused. I'm convinced he's not as big as everyone thinks, OBGYN today was asking if I was comfortable and I am... just I get tired sometimes.

I put in a huge complaint to PALS about the OBGYN last visit as it was a shambles and she gave me aspirin. Turns out she's now under supervision due to my complaint; the aspirin would have been dangerous to take with Bub's heart. She also documented in my notes that it was my first appointment and that I was 18 weeks pregnant when I was 28 weeks. I'm so pleased I complained now!

teainbed · 10/04/2017 15:58

www.guysandstthomas.nhs.uk/resources/our-services/maternity/hand-expressing-leaflet.doc

This was shared in a diabetes thread which you might find useful. Whoever mentioned trying out a pump, it's unlikely to work at this stage as you only get tiny amounts of colostrum out. (By all means get to know how the pump works in advance but it's hand expressing at this stage).

Teaspoon74 · 10/04/2017 17:12

Grrr - had to cancel MW appt today as sickness kicked in with a vengeance. Really have had enough now! Still got 11 working days to go across 3 weeks. 9 in office. I think the commute (especially when I have to stand and she's kicking the crap out of my ribs all through the journey) is what's really done me in!

Nurse well done you! Sounds like your MW needs to be under supervision!! I'm a big believer in crediting good and flagging bad and have spoken to PALS about both through this pregnancy. I figure systems can't improve if they don't know what to do more and less of! And boo re May4th being off the table. Any chance they'll reassess in next couple of weeks?

Esmes re baby size - so long as that doesn't work the other way 'round! Quite happy with the prediction of a 6.5-7lber (albeit with a big head).

Barnes good luck with doggy!! And do you want the whole wall painted or maybe some wall art and a colourful rug (which is also easier to change/replace if it gets mucky)?

MissMoo good luck getting through the next few days. Nearly there! And the baby shower and surprise sounds lovely. Well done to the OH for arranging!!

Rise sorry to hear about your little tumbler, but still plenty of time to turn!

Tea that's actually really good to hear (re the post birth horse wees). Sick of bursting for a pee constantly and only ever having kitten wees (sorry if tmi!).

Rasperry hope the rest helped with your legs. Joys of pregnancy, eh?!

Bright - love the baby grow!! Imaging itv paired with mini leather jacket Grin. And with you in hoping that bubs doesn't put too much strain on relationship with OH. We're such a team and I've always winced when pals have drifted from partners post baby. Really hope we don't get like that!!

Dream until about 3 weeks ago we were thinking about getting a border collie pup about a month into my mat leave on the basis that being at home when they're little is the best way to socialise them... but the knackeredness I've felt recently re lack of sleep has made me reconsider. Think we'll wait a bit! & your dream still has me chuckling!

Barnes79 · 10/04/2017 17:32

Teaspoon I'm wanting to do the whole room one colour. No wall art or rug.

Been to the vets who are referring my FB fur baby back to his behaviourist. I've emailed the behaviourist and they said they'd try to fit me in within the next couple of weeks due to the impending EDD. Also bought some adaptil.

Anyone else feel like it's one problem after another... Confused

jennymac31 · 10/04/2017 17:35

Hey ladies

On my way home from afternoon tea with my team, which was lovely. Just 3 more days to go and then I'm finished.

Baby boy is due on 18th may but I don't think dh would be disappointed if he arrived a bit early especially if he arrived on 4th may. We've got both the r2d2 and darth vader sleepsuits for the baby and no doubt the star wars theme will continue as he gets older.

Got my midwife's appointment tomorrow morning and might have a word with her about the swollen feet but not sure if there's much that can be done about it.

newbieho · 10/04/2017 17:39

Two more working days to go - what a relief!

My team mates organised a lunch and gave me lovely pressies - crazy cat baby body, baby books (incl The tiger who came to tea) a toy and merry go round. Nice surprise!

The bump feels heavy and I think the little one will arrive early Confused

nursebickypegs · 10/04/2017 17:58

@Barnes79 I really hope they see you both soon. I've bought some drops to put in FurBaby2 food as she's very keen to get over everyone's heads and races around 100mph.

@Teaspoon74 I really hate complaining about the NHS, but his doctor made me feel really anxious and worried. The aspirin, she weighed me with my boots on in front of another patient and then told me I failed my GTT... all which was wrong. My actual named OBGYN was wonderful today and so reassuring, he says he is going to be there on C-Section day and I think I cheered! We asked about May 4th (but like you @jennymac31!) & he refused but has agreed to May 9th if baby is okay.

Just waved DH off at the station for his week in Newcastle & then cried in the car!!! He's back Friday night.

nursebickypegs · 10/04/2017 17:59

@newbieho now... you need to show off the cat baby grow you know! #crazycatlady

PeachIcedT · 10/04/2017 18:04

I'm so tired! Had a busy day that hasn't stopped yet. Started with NCT women's only this morning which was lovely where I ate a lot of sugar, then straight to work without a lunch break to be greeted by an absolutely manic ward, desperately trying to get through all my assigned patients. Then ended with an hour meeting where I was constantly out of breath! I'm under a lot of time pressure at work that sometimes has me running across the hospital which I just cannot sustain.

Luckily my lovely mum came and picked me up afterwards to drop me home. She said she will do it everyday but it feels a bit silly when I can still move fairly easily. I don't want to be a pain.

And now I'm going to wolf down some dinner before me and DH go to this waterbirth course - I hope it's stimulating as I may fall asleep otherwise!

PeachIcedT · 10/04/2017 18:05

And luckily I have these two amigos to get through Grin

Brightsmoke · 10/04/2017 18:17

Omg Teaspoon, I HAVE to get baby a mini leather jacket now 😂 that would be so cute! Re border collie, personally I'd go for a less active dog with baby. My BC is the laziest thing known to man, until he's out on a walk or in the garden with his tennis ball. My inlaws have one who gets walked 8 miles everyday, and just never tires out! Ours was from pet stock, theirs was from farm stock. Think we will get a staffy when BC dies.

Barnes, I'd go for a nice blue, maybe cobalt, but try and match it with the blue from the canvas' (which are super cute and I'm very jealous!) But I'd probably only do 1 or 2 walls if it's a small nursery, maybe a nice sunny yellow on the others? Or an orange? I'd stick with the bright coloured theme but I have no taste or style and I'm brave with colours

Have decided baby is coming out this weekend 👍🏻 let's hope baby agrees 😂

Teaspoon74 · 10/04/2017 18:35

Bright Grin. Faux - http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/272616841619?mwBanner=11_ or real - http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/271407777578??_mwBanner=1. ??

Nurse that all sounds awful. Hug!! Bizarrely, given I'm in tears at every other instance of baby talk/ engagement, I feel pretty empowered with health professionals. If they don't introduce initially I'll make a point of asking their name. I always have my notebook and jot stuff done - verbatim if need be. And I will ask them to explain anything I don't understand. And if I feel uncomfortable, I say so really clearly. Have been pretty lucky so far, but think MW is wary of me!!!

Newbie - photo of crazy cat lady baby body please!! Grin

Barnes79 · 10/04/2017 18:51

Bright I'm definitely not brave with colours. We live in an Edwardian house and it's all period pastel colours so feel I need to stick with something similar and less brave

WishIWasSleeping · 10/04/2017 19:25

Nurse - I was expecting my mw to make me have another GTT following my appt this morning because bump is big but she just said I have to speak to my consultant... my consultant is for hypertension- not for lard-arse babies... Hmm I will however be telling my consultant (who I've seen twice, with the second time having her ask why I was even there) that I will not be going to 40wks and attempting to push out a 10lb baby. Just no! I will be requesting induction by the end of the month! I won't have any support past a maximum of 2wks at home so bigger baby and more potential CS is scaring the bejesus out of me! My mw told me this morning that tears may help my cause! Grin

And that is a way cute scan. I think mine looks like a (squashed) storm trooper! (Facing forward)
Glad you feel like your complaint has seen some impact.

MrsJW - pretty sure it takes a few days to dissolve/discharge... #Glamorous!

Peach - your pineapple says serves 5... I hope you're planning on eating it all yourself?!

nursebickypegs · 10/04/2017 20:05

@Teaspoon74 I'm exactly the same, I write everything down and ask so many questions. I told my consultant today that I'm very anxious about pregnancy, & things like been given wrong meds and poor communication doesn't help. Luckily he understood and he talks to DH as well to ask how he is.

@WishIWasSleeping lard-arse babies 😂😂 my consultant openly said today that if it wasn't a planned CS it was going to be now as Bub is piling on the pounds. I'm going to start taking my Blood sugars and monitoring but to be honest, if I'm not diabetic what else can I do with this giant baby? I guess I'm just good at growing them right? Yes your scan does look like a storm trooper!!!!

1004Rise · 10/04/2017 20:06

@Barnes79 what about a soft grey, then you can do highlights of yellow and purple accessories. I'm quite favouring all the grey and yellow nurseries on Pinterest. I'm not brave enough to do really bright colours on walls (too hard to change) but I like brightening up with accessories.

@PeachIcedT pineapple envy!!EnvyGrin

Off to my cousin's wedding next weekend, with a whole load of midwives, thinking may start new entertainment, guess which way the baby is Wink

tea I remember the really long wee too! I described it as really long morning wee to my midwife because apparently it should have been measured. But the same as you I felt loads of relief was the longest wee I had had in months. 😊

rise look at this website
http://spinningbabies.com/
It is full of tips to get baby to beat position 😊 fingers crossed for you.

wish please don't let the hcp and scans scare you. I had a growth scan with bean at 38wks and he was measuring over 10lb. I am 5ft and was very scared. However I am petrified of needles and refused a cs as he wasn't in distress just big. I also believed in my body and that it wouldn't grow a baby too big for me. Anyway he was born at 40+4 and weighed 6lb 7oz! Growth scans can be inaccurate my bump was measuring big too, bean had long legs and lots of water.

Decided to work from home tomorrow! I am tired and emotional and don't want to face the world. Project work from my sofa sounds like a plan 👍🏼😊
