@peasandquiet is it sore or are your tonsils infected? I swear by orange juice with a bit of hot water or gargling with fizzy paracetamol with codiene, 8/500 dose. Or lots and lots of ice cream!

@EsmesBees hear hear Esme! I'm horrified by the amount of weight talk I experience from my clinical team. As I said before my OBGYN said she was "surprised" I wasn't diabetic "as I was on the large side", and then lectured me about my diet. I read somewhere that the Royal College of Midwives are encourage to promote Slimmig World as a healthy lifestyle. I don't see how eating Muller Light Yogurts all day every day is seen as healthy.

@coxsorangepippin @teainbed I struggle with getting in and out the shower and off the sofa. I sleep with a pillow in between my legs which really helps, and I have a pillow for my lower back in the car as well.

I'm relaxing in the bath before an early night. Before 11pm is early for me! 😂 DH's auntie is coming over from Florida next weekend, so MIL is giving her a huge parcel of baby things so we doesn't have to drag everything back later on in the month. I can't wait to see what she has got us.. and obviously to see DH's auntie 😉

DH is off to Newcastle for the week with work on Monday night, and a few of his work friends have offered to look after me if I need lifts or company, which is so sweet. Apparently when the boss told his team he was going for the week, all the women were like "no!!! He has a very pregnant wife!!!" which instantly make me giggle and feel very cared for!

teainbed · 08/04/2017 22:07

Are you American nurse? I've never heard anyone use the term OBGYN in the UK.

Yes Saturday nights are exciting these days aren't they? Grin Sugar free lemon squash and the golf on TV. Exciting times.

coxsorangepippin · 08/04/2017 22:15

nurseb, tea I will try ice, and of course a good dose of just not doing stuff. Thank you Smile I think I'm struggling because as it's new I haven't pinned down exactly what movements at what angles set it off. Sad

nursebickypegs · 08/04/2017 22:57

I'm not @teainbed! I feel silly for using it now. I sometimes say "baby doctor" too. Grin

Esme - BrewCake and a virtual hug for you. I feel so guilty I can't play with DD like I could a few months ago. I can barely get on the floor. I feel relived and incredibly guilty that she will sit and watch ben and Holly on the tele.... I keep having to tell myself that just 'being there' will be enough and hope that I'm right. I'm sure your little one will remember you just being there, rather than you rolling around on the floor all day. Like the others have said - (and I keep being told) it's only a couple more weeks and they probably won't remember... (but I will! #sob)

My DH 'hosted' a BBQ today... I was knackered with DD and trying to clean this morning, but luckily spent most of the afternoon in a chair whilst my (childless) friends played with DD and 3 other invited children of varying ages on the new trampoline, outdoor plastic house and ball pool in the garden.
I think I might need this type of BBQ every weekend until #2 arrives. If only DH wasn't currently snoring....

Peas - Can't remember what you can and can't have, but try some warm black currant juice, or a nice thick smoothie that'll help to coat the throat. x

Nurse - to have 2 close together sounds fab... if you have a lot of support I'm sure it's probably easier. I have been told the aches and pains you get with your first (I only got a tiny bit of sciatica and swollen hands/feet in the last 6weeks) are worse for each following pregnancy... my sciatica/moved pelvis was so bad in Jan (5moths preg) I couldn't walk down the stairs whilst holding DD on some days. So, id say either do it really close together, (mine will be about 16months apart) or at least leave it until they can walk and possible speak a few words to make your life easier!
I am hoping (probably like the other 2+ timers that DD will get on with new baby!!

Hope you can all relax tomorrow at least. xx

Rustler74 · 08/04/2017 23:14

Just managed to catch up with all after being busy cleaning and out all afternoon to the hen do. It was great fun this afternoon but wow I'm glad to be in bed! Feet swollen and hurry and bump moving and squirming about. I need sleep! Hoping for a nice lie in tomorrow. With my luck I'll be awake at 6...

nursebickypegs · 08/04/2017 23:15

@WishIWasSleeping my friend is currently pregnant, when her 2nd is due her 1st goes off to primary school. I keep telling her that's genius! I debate between "I'm not getting any younger, I'll have two close together" to "wait until this one is at school", but if I do that, I'll be 36. Shock i remember being the only one in class without a sibling at home (she just lived somewhere else!).

lullaby23 · 09/04/2017 02:46

cox my physio also said heat for back and ice for front. I keep meaning to buy some special fanny peas to keep in the freezer for this reason! My back is hurting again but in a different place now more down the side don't know what I've done there.

peas DS went through a stage of climbing in the (empty) bath and playing with his toys quite happily until he couldn't climb out. Luckily doesn't do it any more!

esme sympathies here for toddler wrangling. Finding it quite uncomfortable when he sits in my bump lap now. We are also doing too much iPad/tv, I think this will continue when the baby is tiny but it won't be forever. I couldn't shift a headache yesterday so had to take some paracetamol and lie down for an hour, was so pleased it was the weekend and I could do that with DH here.

Started on washing so it rained for most of the day, looks a bit brighter this morning though.

jennymac31 · 09/04/2017 04:58

Nursebickypegs & wishiwassleeping - my dd turns 4 on Tuesday so will be starting school in September when baby will almost 4 months old. We decided to try to time having baby no 2 to coincide with when dd starts school as we couldn't afford to have 2 kids in childcare at the same time. Am happy with the potential age gap but only time will tell what the actual experience will be like.

Both my parents and in-laws were a bit concerned about when we were going to have kids because they thought we were leaving it a bit late (was 33 when I had dd and am 37 now) but we just weren't ready to have kids before then. Tbh the in-laws thought we had left it a bit long to get married (had been together 5 & 1/2 years before actual wedding day). Mil in particular is of the belief that every couple should just get married (not live in sin) and have children so wasn't too impressed when we bought our first house after being together less than 2 years!

jennymac31 · 09/04/2017 05:00

Raspberryinmelon - thanks for the link on the slip loafers. Might pop down to local sainsburys to see if they have them in stock so I can try them on.

coxsorangepippin · 09/04/2017 05:04

lullaby fanny peas GrinGrin

jennymac31 · 09/04/2017 05:51

Morning ladies

Are any of you planning/hoping to have a water birth? If so, are you planning on buying/wearing a bikini for the birth?

Hoping to have water birth but just realised haven't got suitable swimwear so just wanted to know where others have purchased their items. I'm not a small girl (size 18/20) and boobs are pretty sizeable (42e at the moment) so really don't know where to look, especially as I'd rather not spend a lot of money on something I might not wear for that long.

RasperryInAMelon · 09/04/2017 05:55

Morning... (she says having been scouring the internet since 4am)...

@jennymac31 I'm hoping for a water birth and will pack a bikini top but the likelihood is I'll probably wear nothing tbh...

savagehk · 09/04/2017 06:36

I laboured in water last time, i had a bikini bottom from pre pregnancy which still fitted and a maternity tankini top, but tbh was mostly naked as i was back and forward to the loo or needing to have an exam or whatever. I do also have a bikini set with a skirt from pre pregnancy but don't fancy getting in and out of water with that on if it's wet.
Hoping for a water labour at least again this time, possibly birth too although not looked into too much detail, but expecting to be naked most of the time again. (Will need to be topless for effective skin to skin/feeding anyway)

Morning all!

Waves to raspberry- I pretended I wasn't awake until the sun came up, but clearly I was. I managed a 6 hour stretch despite being ludicrously exhausted yesterday Confused

Massive catch up ahead:
Shini re GD I'm also diet controlled but weirdly my target range is lower than bouncing, between 4 and 7 and I test 4 times daily (upon wake up, then 2 hours after each meal). Not sure why there is a different target- maybe because bouncing had managed it well for longer? No experience of the metaformin as they'll slam me straight on insulin if I start to spike. However if babies do arrive hypo (which is preferable to avoid as teainbed mentioned) I was assured that nurses are super well trained to deal with it immediately so try not to worry. Have they suggested diet alterations/snack timings to try and lower your fasting figures?
Good luck-totally with you on the ice cream talk...I might have to drag my machine out and make a sugar free batch! For a stand in, I found I could mix a couple of teaspoons of the pots and co mimi chocolate pots into skyr yoghurt for a high protein slightly chocolatey creamy, no spike treat. I might try freezing that if it gets much warmer before due date!

Esme, tea, Jenny and everyone else struggling with clothes- I hear you!! My one pair of stretchy knitted trousers are starting to strangle me, and my mat leggings are trashed from daily wear. Can't bring myself to buy mat specific stuff now but might have a trawl of YOOX for heavily discounted stuff I might wear after too. Jenny I bought some Celine-esque plain white leather slip on trainer/loafer things in an OUTNET sale (£38!) and they've just about kept me going-look just chic/neutral enough for work. Maybe something like that could work-I find even the suggestion of a heel wrecks my pelvis and back now

Anyone else hobbling with bump weight? I get overtaken on the street by pensioners and toddlers.

Esme, peas, fox, wish and everyone else with toddlers- I echo the sentiments here. I can't even look after myself right now. Doffing my hat in respect.*
*
Nurse I also, unbelievably (given how tough this pregnancy has been, and how I have no real idea what I'm facing physically, mentally and financially) keep thinking 'oooh two would be nice!' but unless I get on it pronto I'll probably miss the boat despite all the nurses and doctors telling me I'm still young (we all know I'm not!).

Lullaby fanny peas is a new favourite. I'm also having bad side pain- aggravated by carrying bags on hat side, or sleeping at too much of an angle. Short of getting a butler, a porter, and a magic spell to help me get baby limbs out of my ribs when I lay flat, I'm not sure what the answer is. Even Pilates made me wince yesterday.

On fanny freezer treats, for those not having CS, my friend recommended making 'ice pops' in condoms for downstairs pain relief in the days after. Just imagining the conversations that would ensue...'Darling could you grab me another vag pop from the freezer? There's a dear'

Going to unbox the eBay bugaboo pram today (hopefully!).
Will report back...

nursebickypegs · 09/04/2017 06:57

@jennymac31 I think I'm a bit like you, 30s was my time to "settle". My 20s were my hedonistic years, I went to festivals, saw the world, went to uni and met my husband at 24. My grandpa is really catholic and didn't understand me living with a boyfriend when we weren't married or having a baby! I'm 31 now, 32, in September. My mum was 18 when she had me.

EsmesBees · 09/04/2017 07:06

nurse 36 isn't old to have a baby now days! Pretty normal round here I'd say. I'm not sure there is a perfect age gap to be honest. I went for two years as that's what there is between me and my sister and we've always been close, but I think that was more luck than judgement. Wish while it probably doesn't seem like it to you, I was just thinking the other day that there is probably a lot to be said for a smaller gap before the terrible twos kick in. Lullaby you are right, it won't be forever.

WishIWasSleeping · 09/04/2017 07:11

Nurse.. (& Jenny) I'm 33, it'll be close as to if I hit 34 at the end of the this month before or after baby! Grin Baby was unplanned at this specific time, but absolutely not unwanted. I think there will be a bigger gap should any more follow!!

Fanny peas... nearly woke my DH up laughing!

Mighty- I'm not sure if I could face inserting something frozen! Confused I did read somewhere last time (maybe Pinterest) about witch hazel frozen sani pads... I didn't make any because I'm lazy. (Even though you make them up before labour!) For those of you with the time before baby they might be quite soothing.

It's looking like another lovely day here. Must remember to get the boxes of neutrals down so I can start sorting in my masses of spare time Grin
Shame I've been awake half the night with sciatic pain and a couple of leg cramps for good measure... Hmm Maybe coco-pops for breakfast will help...

WishIWasSleeping · 09/04/2017 07:13

Oh Esme - I didn't even think about the terrible twos and threenagers! GrinGrin
We have a cupboard under the stairs... I may clear it out so I can hide in it by then!

PeachIcedT · 09/04/2017 07:14

Good morning and sunny Sunday all Smile

@jennymac31 I'm also hoping for a water birth, I've packed a tankini top but I'm quite prepared to not wear anything if it's easier - I have a water birth course on tomorrow though so will see what the general consensus is on that.

mightymouse76 · 09/04/2017 07:16

Wish seriously considering never putting anything in there again after this.

mightymouse76 · 09/04/2017 07:17

Frozen or not

peasandquiet · 09/04/2017 07:20

Morning all, sore throat continues so if anyone thinks of any other remedies send them my way! Off for a hot Ribena in a min.

I had an old bikini top on last time when I had a water birth. It was off pretty quick once delivered as got covered in gunk and blood, washed ok and will be going in the bag this time too.
Peach enjoy your waterbirth course, I never had anything like that before but am the sort of person that gets in the bath every time I find a spare minute, it's my fav place! Can't imagine giving birth on dry land. Really hoping I can have another water birth this time.
Wish the understairs hiding cupboard is a great idea. I suggest booze and chocolate stashed in there. In a safe only you have the code for!!
Lovely weather again 😊 Hoping my husband returns earlyish and doesn't have a huge hangover. Hungover men make the worst company when your pregnant!!

Rockyroad17 · 09/04/2017 07:51

@peas - you've probably tried this already but honey and lemon? Also, I think lockets are ok?

A friend suggested the sanitary towels with aloe vera. Now I just need to decide how best to use my tiny 2 drawer freezer; batch cooking / vag pop / sanitary towels / Ben and Jerry's??
