#TTC1 - Second Wave grads thread the Second!

kavanaughkj · 30/03/2017 16:06

Hello all! Welcome to the second thread for the 'new wave' of grads from #TTC1 - the first wave ladies seem to have decamped en masse to Facebook now (I heard weaning mentioned last time I ventured onto it) so this is now officially the place to be!

We're pretty spread out over the pregnancy journey so far with some newbies and some about to pop Grin I'll try to maintain a list so if anybody wants to leave details of due dates and whether you're Team Blue, Pink or Vanilla (I think we're pretty heavily skewed towards Pink at the moment) then leave your details and I'll amalgamate them!

As Moose mentioned in our last thread, please do feel free to join in if this is your first time walking this weird and wonderful path - there is no such thing as TMI and we're all learning off each other!

Okay guys question...

After my 8wk midwife appointment the midwife text me to say all fine with my bloods. Phew! Consequently did not think about it.
At my 16wk scan the hospital wrote my blood results in the notes. I did not notice until last evening. All looks okay only next to Thallasemia it says 'evidence'...I had no idea what this meant so googled it and it seems to suggest that perhaps I carry the gene for this???
Do you know any more???
I'm confused because midwife said results all fine now this is in the notes...

  1. Perhaps it is nothing to worry about
  2. I'm paranoid it got missed and it suggests that OH should have been offered a test to see if he's a carrier and this has not been mentioned at all yet
  3. Part of me wonders if hospital wrote wrong results in...

Anyway got my next midwife appointment this Thursday so will ask

Just random

Scandalicity · 07/08/2017 07:14

Massive congratulations wanting Grin hope you are home & all settling in now!

Missy no experience of bloods etc as I have never actually received any results for any of mine, but if you are concerned could you drop your MW a quick text of call just to check? Might stop you worrying until Thursday?

Fx MrsG that things start moving for you soon!

Starmist · 07/08/2017 08:55

Missy I don't have any experience of this but definitely ask your midwife to explain it to you. Hopefully she can give you some reassurance.

MissyJones80s · 07/08/2017 15:26

Thanks guys. I'm sure it's fine but just wish they would elaborate on what 'evidence' means!!! Will definitely be asking at my midwife appointment for sure. After reading up on it I think maybe that marker flagged something up so they did another test to see if I had anaemia and I don't, that marker is in my notes and is perfectly normal. Would be nice to know what you they found though!!!

Starmist · 07/08/2017 21:03

I got The Positive Birth Book today. Only read a few chapters so far but it seems really good, hopefully it'll help me be more relaxed & ready for labour. I've kind of been in denial about the whole birth thing but now I've finished work & have nothing else to think about, it suddenly seems very real & close!

Hope everyone is doing ok.

MrsG280516 · 07/08/2017 21:30

Had a sweep today (40+1) and cervix was open enough for the midwife to get her fingertip in and feel baby's head so fingers crossed it has some effect! We also got referred for a consultant appointment/growth scan tomorrow because I've measured big on the fundal height chart for 3 appointments. Totally a waste of time at this stage in my opinion, luckily I'm not a worrier so taking it with a pinch of salt...

Mrsbluebell17 · 08/08/2017 07:25

Fingers crossed the sweep will help you to progress then mrsg &!et us know how you get on today with the scan

Missy, sorry I can't help but definitely worth speaking to your midwife about it.

kavanaughkj · 08/08/2017 16:40

Congrats Wanting on the arrival of baby Lily! That's a lovely name :) and keeping fingers crossed for you, MrsG - sounds like it shouldn't be long now! Congrats on joining team Pink Carley!

Thank you all so much for the congrats Grin - starting to surface now after the first few days of controlled (ish) chaos. Nobody can prepare you for this - the love, the panic or the lack of sleep - going to the loo felt a luxury in the first few days!! - your EMCS advice is spot on though Billy, except I read the stuff about meds after we were released from hospital. I am so besotted with Coraline it isn't even funny but there have been times in the first few days when she's screamed for what feels like (and probably was) hours and I've been at my wits' end! DH is marshmallow in her tiny hands too :) and now she's crying, so have to end this post quickly!!!

Growth scan showed little lady at an estimated 7lbs 11oz despite my fundal height being off the chart! Can't wait to see what her actual birth weight is, still doesn't look like she feels like arriving any time soon...

OhOurBilly · 08/08/2017 20:14

So glad the advice has served you well kav I never did any research on cesareans/recovers it wasn't even in my radar that it wasn't have one, so some of it came as a shock. But very glad you are settling in and are feeling well. When L was a tiny newborn I used to have a mental checklist of 'feed, wind, change, cwtch, if he doesn't stop crying, start the list again'. The overwhelming feeling of love is insanely overpowering isn't it? Like you can't quite believe that you were capable of love like it and that it's the best thing in the entire world, but so bloody terrifying at the same time! (The love only gets bigger and stronger, honestly, I'd never have believed it but every day I wake up and am amazed by him and love him even more! A never ending cushion of love and adoration!)

mrsG I went 5 days overdue, felt like forever and a day. I'm quite interested to see how much she'll weigh now too! First thing the nurse said when L came out was "Cor, you've got a whopper here! He's a biggun!" So that was the first sentence my darling boy heard in the world! Grin

Seahawk80 · 10/08/2017 14:29

Hi all, sorry I've been absent, had a really busy few weeks so just had a sped read to catch up! Congrats Kav and Wanting!! Beautiful names ❤️.

Hector is still very good and I'm still loving it. Had a bad night last night where he just wouldn't sleep but when I see his happy little face I can't be cross! Finally registered him today, DH is at work and paranoid that I've added a random extra middle name! I was tempted but his only middle name is my Dads name and today would have been my dads 79th birthday so it feels very appropriate to just have the one meaningful middle name.

Congrats on the scans everyone - welcome to the minority team blue glitter!

Hope everyone is feeling good - so nice to have the sun back.

Ps the Red Cross app is great - reassured myself last night that H did not have meningitis!!

LovelyFishy · 10/08/2017 14:44

Congratulations Wanting!! GrinFlowers

MrsG exciting times ahead, hopefully very very close to meeting your baby now!

FXSkip · 10/08/2017 15:35

That's lovely Seahawk, we are planning to name ours after DHs mum who passed away when I was about 5 months pg. it feels like a very special way to remember someone.

Starfish83 · 10/08/2017 15:54

Hi folks! I've been off the radar for a few months due to a crazily manic time at work - hope it's OK to reignite my love for the thread?! 😳😊 Congratulations on your new arrivals, Kav and Wanting; great news and what gorgeous names. I'm 32 weeks now and the time is flying by! Hope everybody's doing well... ⭐️ x

FXSkip · 10/08/2017 16:06

Hi starfish welcome back! I was also pretty inactive but now I am soooooo bored at work that I seem to spend large chunks of my day trawling the AIBU threads! I can't wait for this baby to come, I'm 37+2 now and time is definitely still flying by! I think I'm all set though so now just enjoying going to the gym and going for walks while I can still do whatever I want. I even packed a hospital bag last night in my boredom, hopefully won't need it. I've gone for ear plugs, heavy-duty pads and chocolate. That's all I need right?!

OhOurBilly · 10/08/2017 22:10

Just take pj's and chocolate skip and pads. I can guarantee you won't even look at the ear plugs! 😁

Mrsbluebell17 · 11/08/2017 00:55

Really struggling to sleep over here! Stressing. Anyone else awake?

So lovely to hear how you're doing seahawk! Congrats on registering hector.

Glad to hear time is still flying by at the later stages skip and starfish.

Starmist · 11/08/2017 05:34

What are you worried about Bluebell? Hope you're ok & that you've managed to get some sleep.

Mrsbluebell17 · 11/08/2017 08:04

Starmist it's a vicious circle as I'm stressing because I can't sleep Confused I eventually nodded off. Sure this phase will pass.

FXSkip · 11/08/2017 08:33

Ha ha thanks billy - I'm still hoping I don't even end up in hospital so fingers crossed the whole bag is redundant!

Not only is insomnia super normal during pregnancy, so is feeling overwhelmed or stressed. I found around the end of 2nd/ start of 3rd tris that I would wake up and then toss and turn thinking about silly stuff. I wouldn't say I nailed it, but things like listening to YouTube sleep meditation videos helped, and if I can't do that I visualise my ideal 'birth day' where I imagine going into labour etc all really chilled out. Usually I'm asleep before I even get to the birth, and if not I think it's a really valuable tool for keeping calm. Hopefully you find something that works for you x
