#TTC1 - Second Wave grads thread the Second!

Hello all! Welcome to the second thread for the 'new wave' of grads from #TTC1 - the first wave ladies seem to have decamped en masse to Facebook now (I heard weaning mentioned last time I ventured onto it) so this is now officially the place to be!

We're pretty spread out over the pregnancy journey so far with some newbies and some about to pop Grin I'll try to maintain a list so if anybody wants to leave details of due dates and whether you're Team Blue, Pink or Vanilla (I think we're pretty heavily skewed towards Pink at the moment) then leave your details and I'll amalgamate them!

As Moose mentioned in our last thread, please do feel free to join in if this is your first time walking this weird and wonderful path - there is no such thing as TMI and we're all learning off each other!

Hope you're not waiting too long Seahawk, the ward doesn't sound too much fun but glad you're coping well with the pain!

Wow 8 weeks already fishy! Glad jabs went well :)

Did anyone here have low PAPP-A levels? I've only just found out at my 16wk appointment as my screening results went missing Hmm so a letter was never sent out to me.

MrsG280516 · 04/07/2017 16:12

Hope you don't have to stay on the ward for long Seahawk I think that's the part that worries me the most about labour rather than the actual birth but being on the ante/post-natal wards without DH and not being able to rest properly!

Musicgrrl · 05/07/2017 07:35

Aww seahawk that doesn't sound like too much fun. I'm also not looking forward to then ward before and after! And I have heard the same thing that it is about who shouts the loudest. My DH is not like that at all so think I will need to give him a lesson in being more 'assertive'!

Sounds like it was a good idea to send your DH home so that at least one of you can rest up. Although I can imagine he was constantly checking his phone for news! Really hope they broke your waters and got you going. You're nearly there now! Smile

Musicgrrl · 05/07/2017 07:37

Carley - seahawk had either low or high Papp A levels - I can't remember which. That is why she has been induced around her due date instead of waiting until she goes overdue. Sorry that I can't remember more about it than that! Can't believe your screening results went missing. What is your combined risk level like?

Musicgrrl · 05/07/2017 07:40

Belated congratulations and welcome scandal!

kav any luck with the car? We need to do the same thing. Also, at the end of this week I'll have two weeks left at work too! How are you finding your nct class? I thought the breast feeding session was pretty good - or certainly better than I was expecting!

Hope everyone has a nice day today and that you don't suffer too much in the heat!

MissyJones80s · 05/07/2017 10:40

THank you for the travel reassurance will hopefully be booking later on this evening.
Feeling super guilty at work, boss planning my year ahead...feel like I need to tell her soon but just want to wait until after first scan. Also only just moved into this depeartmebt due to restructure.
seahawk hope things are progressing !!

Carley27 · 05/07/2017 10:54

Thanks Music, just had a look back and Seahawk did have low PAPP-A levels too, but baby measuring as expected at growth scans so that's reassuring to hear. They gave me a mini heart-attack by saying 'so nobody has been in touch to tell you to start taking aspirin?' but they don't seem overly concerned so I'm trying to relax and not google Blush My Granny will be happy if I go early as it's her 70th birthday 3 days after my due date and she wants to be a great granny before she's 70 Grin
My downs risk was low, 1:3258 or 1:3528, so that was good at least.

Wow only a fortnight of work left, bet you're looking forward to finishing :)

kavanaughkj · 05/07/2017 13:30

Heya Music :) - liking the NCT classes so far, they've been really interesting. I think my first breastfeeding session is tomorrow evening though, haven't had one yet - I'm intrigued as to how they'll be able to spend 2 hours covering talking about it! And yes - got lucky on the weekend, the car I had my eye on was exactly what we wanted, so I have myself a nice 'new' runaround which I'm very much relieved about. It's manual rather than automatic which will take a little getting used to as I've only been in automatics the last couple of years, but I've found it's pretty easy to remember what I need to do. Just happy I'll be able to drive to appointments or visiting family and friends without having to rely solely on public transport!

Hope it's all going well for you Seahawk, it doesn't sound much fun being stuck on a ward with a bunch of other ladies but I'm hoping you won't have much longer to wait to meet your little one. :)

Good news on the downs risk Carley, that's good to hear!

Am so wishing I'd decided to start maternity leave this week. Mostly because I love Wimbledon and it would have been so nice to sit and watch it at home! Normally get tickets but was unlucky on the draw this year, as was my mum - normally we go together every year and I'm missing not being there this time around.

Pregnancy symptoms changing a bit for me now. I'm living in compression socks to keep my oedema under control, though my previously slim fingers look like fat sausages and my eyesight is a teeny bit blurrier due to excess fluid in the body - but the last day or so my heartburn has subsided a bit. Normally if I don't take my Gaviscon before bed I wake up a couple of times ready to retch up stomach acid; last night I still woke up with a start twice but it wasn't to do with stomach acid, it was because I leaked wee!! Blush Have had to put a pantyliner in today as I'm deathly afraid I'll wet myself if I sneeze or laugh or something ... the joys of being pregnant!

Hi everyone! I was in the first wave of grads, and I'm now mum to 6-month-old Adeline. Just popping in to congratulate everyone on your pregnancies/babies! I'm a bit of a fan of Future Learn at the moment, and while looking for my next course found they are running 'Babies in Mind' again. I enjoyed this course whilst pregnant, and thought it might be worth sharing - it's free and starts on the 24th July www.futurelearn.com/courses/babies-in-mind?lr=24 They also have courses on first aid and nutrition for babies - I'm attempting the nutrition one in a few weeks' time! It's so hard to fit in once the baby has arrived... Confused

WantingBaby1 · 05/07/2017 15:04

Ah the glamour of pregnancy kav!

Great news carley

Thinking of you seahawk!

My feet and ankles have suddenly swollen to epic proportions since hitting 35 weeks. Anyone have any tips for keeping them under control? I'm soaking in cool water and trying to elevate them, but elevation above my heart is tricky when I'm not meant to be on my back Confused

kavanaughkj · 05/07/2017 18:10

Compression stockings or socks Wanting - decidedly unsexy but I have been suffering the same for weeks, only it's got way worse the last week or two. I have trainers and one pair of sandals left that fit me and my legs feel tight from the knee down if I don't wear them, like somebody filled all remaining space in my legs with water. It's much better with the stockings. I'm wearing a pair of socks I got today for the first time which are a little less tight than the stockings I bought, which I literally have to wrestle myself into first thing in the morning - DH has had to help me with them! Hoping the socks will be enough as they're a damn sight easier to manage - they don't control my plantar fasciitis as well as the stockings do (ow) but I don't feel as swollen or as tight as usual at least.

Mayago that link is really interesting. Thank you!

MissyJones80s · 05/07/2017 19:28

Thanks mayago that link does look interesting. It says 4 hrs a week is that strict or can you be flexible? I work a gazillion hours already so struggle to fit much else in but would love to do this!

Had anyone had a pain when standing up from crouching? I decided to clean the car seats after work so was bent over doing that for a short while then crouched over on the floor shampooing the car rugs. I then just stood up straight and had this like stretching aching pain, just briefly, where I would imagine my uterus is...it's gone now and literally just lasted for a split second but no idea what it was?

MrsG280516 · 05/07/2017 19:33

Sorry to hear you're struggling with swelling Wanting and Kav, I've been extremely lucky to not have it too badly so far. Just a bit of water retention in my fingers so the wedding and engagement rings came off at 33 weeks to stop them getting stuck!

Only 9 working days left for me now before maternity leave, tomorrow then two more 4 day weeks. Roll on 21st July!!

Mrsbluebell17 · 05/07/2017 19:51

Missy I've had all sorts of twinges like that at all different times.

WantingBaby1 · 05/07/2017 19:57

Thanks for the tip kav. Where did you get your stockings and socks from? I'm wondering whether to call my midwife and ask for a urine test as it's come on very suddenly and I'm wary of pre - eclampsia. Blood pressure was low and urine test clear at 34 weeks, it's just come on so suddenly I'm a bit concerned.

I've just removed my rings too mrs sad times!

missy sounds totally normal to me - the aches and pains are usually just your uterus stretching. Can be quite an odd feeling!

FXSkip · 05/07/2017 21:17

I've signed up mayo thanks for the tip, how's motherhood?! Forgotten already who asked but stretchy ligament pains around the lower belly sounds like normal round ligament pain, you can get soft-tissue work from a chiropractor or masseuse to help but otherwise try to move gently as you warm up. For swollen limbs definitely mention to mw, i find not sitting or standing still for long periods of time the key - it should disappear quite quickly after moving. Lying on your back is fine as long as you are comfortable, just move if something goes numb. I find putting a few pillows under my hips works well, so my upper body is at an incline. I can't believe I'm at 33 weeks already, wtf?!?!

kavanaughkj · 05/07/2017 21:39

Time goes so quickly doesn't it Skip? :)

Thanks for the link Maya, I've signed up so hopefully I can get a fair bit of it done before I pop! Hope you're having a fabulous time as a new mum. :)

I got the stockings and socks off Amazon Wanting. I got these www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00LKIAUQK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21 and these www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01J4MW8S6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21. I do think you should probably give the midwife a call if you're concerned though - I've been on weekly checks since my blood pressure was too high, and though trace protein was found in my urine once, it hasn't been since. I've not had any headaches or sharp chest pains (or spots in front of my vision) and the hospital confirmed I don't have pre-eclampsia but the tests helped set my mind at rest.

Hi everyone- baby Seahawk finally arrived yesterday! It's a boy! We've called him Hector. He is adorable and so chilled.

Birth was pretty traumatic - exactly what I feared would happen. After 24 hours they could break my waters but didn't have a room. Had to wait 12 hours while at first having regular but mild -moderate contractions which slowed down and then stopped. They broke my waters at midnight and have us a room but said we couldn't have a dedicated midwife until 4am - this was midnight. Really painful contractions started straight away so I had some diamorphine which made me feel really spaced out. Contractions were every 2 mins and I went from 3cm -8 cm in 4.5 hours. I wasn't getting and rest in between contractions and they suggested either. Drug to slow them down or an epidural so I had an epidural. I was fully dilated by 8am but baby's head wasn't far down enough. It didn't come down so we tried directed pushing with midwives but he was also in a back to back position. Went to theatre to try ventouse / forceps but consultant said I'll be honest, 90% this will end up being a c section - so shall we just do one - it's what I'd recommend. By that point I wanted it to be over and she knew what she was doing. I wish I'd pushed harder for an elective section over induction as I knew the baby's head was a bit high and I could have had it straight away rather than exhausted after 2 days of no sleep! I would advise anyone being induced around due date to check where baby's head is. Anyway he's totally worth it!

carley don't worry about Papp a - will reply soon with more detail!

Oh wow Seahawk! Congratulations on the gorgeous Hector!

Sounds like you've had a pretty traumatic ordeal, but I'm glad Hector and you are both now ok!

I hope you recover quickly and enjoy these special moments with your new baby.

Congratulations once again! How much did he weigh? Awesome name by the way!

WantingBaby1 · 06/07/2017 08:04
