#TTC1 - Second Wave grads thread the Second!

Hello all! Welcome to the second thread for the 'new wave' of grads from #TTC1 - the first wave ladies seem to have decamped en masse to Facebook now (I heard weaning mentioned last time I ventured onto it) so this is now officially the place to be!

We're pretty spread out over the pregnancy journey so far with some newbies and some about to pop Grin I'll try to maintain a list so if anybody wants to leave details of due dates and whether you're Team Blue, Pink or Vanilla (I think we're pretty heavily skewed towards Pink at the moment) then leave your details and I'll amalgamate them!

As Moose mentioned in our last thread, please do feel free to join in if this is your first time walking this weird and wonderful path - there is no such thing as TMI and we're all learning off each other!

I think it took until about 20-22 weeks for me to look obviously pregnant. I didn't tell anyone at work until after my dating scan when I was actually 14+3 and they had suspicions but more because I'd had time off for a few appointments and was eating a lot of snacks rather than that I was showing 😂 other people around the building didn't notice until I popped a bit more!

MrsG280516 · 21/05/2017 19:28

And congrats tonks another team blue for the list!

AudreyBradshaw · 21/05/2017 19:43

I'd probably wait and then order something online after you've had the baby music . I'm still wearing maternity tops tbh because once the bump is a baby, they're just tops! I'd lost 95% of the "baby weight" by about 6-8 weeks. (I put on 4 stone, it was mainly water retention, baby and waters/placenta.) My belly was still swollen and sore for a while though because of the section. I prefered wearing leggings for at least the first 3 months because they were comfier. Back in my pre-pregnancy jeans by about 10 weeks. I'm probably slightly lighter now than I was pre baby at about 9 and a half stone. I've not got as much of a waist as I did and my hips are slightly wider but all in all it's ok, I genuinely thought I was going to be a dogs dinner and have been pleasantly surprised.

Maxi dresses for the win. Boohoo have some in maternity, h&m are nice quality and I was basically dressed by New Look for much of being pregnant.

AudreyBradshaw · 21/05/2017 19:44

And yay for team blues and team pink additions! 💙💜💙💜

Mooseville · 21/05/2017 21:12

Thanks everyone - it is getting seriously close now. I'm ready to not be pregnant anymore - although I've had an easy ride, I want to stop waddling and puffing and panting at the tiniest exertion now please!!

I think I was about 26 weeks when I started to look properly pregnant and not just fatter!

music my wedding outfit is from Seraphine and is a nursing dress too - I think it will fit a post baby body as well as the huge bump, so might be worth looking there?

Seahawk80 · 21/05/2017 22:01

Congrats tonks - I think you're only our second team blue along with star sorry if I've forgotten anyone!

music someone told me cramps can be caused by the baby taking a lot of your calcium intake - no idea if it's true but might be worth trying having extra milk / yogurt?

Had a productive day, after finally finishing painting all the door frames in our flat we put the buggy together in the garden. Had to watch a lot of you tube videos as there were no instructions! Happy with the finished product though.

Musicgrrl · 23/05/2017 09:52

seahawk that's interesting about calcium as we were on holiday last week and I was eating fry ups in the mornings instead of my usual cereal (don't judge!) so maybe that has had an impact! Getting some yoghurt a in just in case. Love the buggy - which bugaboo is that?

Ooh moose I browse seraphine a lot and have one thing from there. I'll look out for the dress that you've got - great that it works for maternity and nursing!

audrey that's really interesting and helpful stuff, thank you! It sounds like you have done really well - I'd be so chuffed to get back into my pre pregnancy jeans ever! Ha. I am finding it really hard to know what my weight gain is made up of, I guess because having a bump always makes the rest of your body look smaller in comparison! I can definitely feel more fat around my hips and thighs which I am not used to as it isn't where I usually put down fat. I guess I'll find out in a few months!

Also, I love h&m maternity stuff. I bought quite a few bits from new look to start with but I just find the quality not as good. Yesterday I made an emergency trip to h&m and bought a stretchy non maternity black dress for £14. I love it but I think you can probably see the outline of my pants as it is figure hugging. Think I am past caring though!

glittery dress code at my office isn't too strict tbh but I like to look reasonably smart. Great that you won't have to worry about spending money on a work wardrobe! Hope it's an okay uniform though, especially over the summer!

I'm at the hospital having my glucose tolerance blood tests done. Currently in the boring 2 hour wait before the second blood test and dreaming about what I will have for lunch when I can eat again...

Does anyone have any nice plans for the sunny bank holiday? I'm off to a wedding in York which I am really looking forward to Smile

Musicgrrl · 23/05/2017 10:56

This waiting room is not good. I thought GTT is normally done at 28 weeks but I feel like everyone's bumps here are much bigger than mine! Glad I have a growth scan this week to check baby is developing okay.

kavanaughkj · 23/05/2017 11:40

Heya Music - I'm sure your bump is fine! I do find mine can be more or less obvious depending on what I'm wearing as well, so maybe that could have something to do with it?

No real plans for the bank holiday here. I'm having a friend visit over the weekend and we're probably going to my family for lunch or dinner. I'll just enjoy the short work week! Everything is gradually getting that bit harder at the moment - I'm shorter of breath, my ankles are puffing up as I watch them, I have the beginnings of carpal tunnel syndrome (ow), the soles of my feet hurt to walk on and I'm waddling everywhere. The heartburn has been a little better at least but I'm really not getting much in the way of restful sleep - still waking up twice a night to pee - but I've just bought a hypnobirthing book and am determined to start that up properly every day now. I saw some amazing videos on YouTube showing hypnobirths that just looked so calm and empowering. I'd love for mine to be along those lines - intense, rather than scary and painful.

Going to view pics from my maternity shoot tonight - quite excited! :)

Don't worry music a lot of people get it done later for lots of reasons so they could be a good few weeks ahead of you!

The buggy is a bugaboo bee 5 - I love it, it's so light and manoeuvrable but still can May enough for a toddler to nap in. My 3 nieces have all napped comfortably in theirs. We were lucky that we can borrow a bassinet for it as that saved £200, they aren't cheap! I just thought we'll use the buggy so much it was worth splurging on.

Hope you can eat soon!

Seahawk80 · 23/05/2017 11:50

I'm working all weekend but at least off for the bank hol!

glitteryvibes · 23/05/2017 12:42

music it's basically slightly smart looking scrubs so no need to worry about comfort. Only marginally less comfy than pyjamas.
My friend had the gtt at like 35 weeks as growth had increased more than normal so they wanted to rule out gd, so I'm sure many of those women were further along than 28 weeks.

OhOurBilly · 24/05/2017 20:40

kav look up carpal tunnel stretches. I had it in both hands from about 32 weeks until he was about 6/8 weeks before it started going. Stretches made it a but less uncomfortable and meant I kept some of the feeling. Was numb up to my elbows both hands for a while! Name changed btw, it's Audrey!

kavanaughkj · 25/05/2017 12:15

I did wonder who you were for a second there! Didn't recognise the name from the TTC#1 thread Grin - and thanks for the advice, l will! At the moment I'm finding I wake up in the morning and it's painful to clench my fingers, particularly on my left hand as I tend to lie on it; I had to ditch my rings ages ago as none of them (not even replacement ones I bought in larger sizes) fit me any more. I've been getting pins and needles now though which had me a bit concerned - I certainly don't want to go completely numb the way you did!!

Was sat with both feet dunked in a bowl of freezing cold water as well last night in an attempt to reclaim my ankles. I think that's the change that bothers me the most - I love my shoes and have so many pretty ones, but yesterday in Primark I couldn't even fit into the 'wide fit' sandals! Cold water and raising my feet above heart level help but otherwise can can leave a fingerprint in the skin on the top of my foot. Yuck! Just hoping they shrink back to something approaching what they were before when baby arrives or I'll have a lot of shoes to get rid of :(

WantingBaby1 · 25/05/2017 12:39

Hello ladies

kav that sounds rubbish about the swelling and pain Sad all my friends said their feet did return to normal size once baby was here so there is hope!

Don't worry about bump size music, I did for a while, and weight gain, but honestly everyone carries differently.

Congratulations tonks!

How are you all coping with the heat? Commuting to and from work yesterday was tough. So many sweaty bodies on the tube and train. Yuck. Can't wait for mat leave!

Mrsbluebell17 · 25/05/2017 13:06

Wanting it's the sleeping at night in this heat which is challenging me.

Eva30 · 25/05/2017 14:22

Hello everyone - may I join you? Got my bfp a couple of weeks ago, I'm 5+4 now. Very nervous and hoping everything goes OK (I hope I'll chill out a bit after 12w).
Took me a while to find you all but this is such a lovely thread and nice to see so many of you I recognize and hear how you're getting on!
I have an early scan booked at 8w. How early did you start telling people? We haven't told anyone yet and I feel like I'm bursting having to hold this news in! Smile

OhOurBilly · 25/05/2017 15:55

I was huge with the water retention everywhere, couldn't get any shoes on. Ended up in rubber flip flops for most of the 3rd trimester! Then took them to hospital with me to wear in the showers.

Sorry for short post, have a very ratty baby today because he's too warm!
Congratulations Eva 🎉👍💕💙🌹🎁🍰

Mooseville · 25/05/2017 16:24

Congratulations eva Welcome!!

Last midwife appt before due date today! Everything ok, baby's head firmly in my pelvis! Have been offered a sweep on my due date next Sat if there's been no baby before then! It's getting real!!!!

Not much swelling here thankfully, although if this heat continues there will be. I'm soooooo hot!!!!!

Miranda234 · 25/05/2017 16:33

Welcome Eva and congratulations! not long until your scan now 😊 we told our immediate family early on as I work with my dad and also do a lot of running with both my parents so it would have been hard to keep a secret! We've only now started telling friends after we had the 12 week scan.

Enjoy the wedding music I'm off to a hen weekend in Bath, slightly nervous as I only know one other person and I'm not sure how long I'll want to be staying out at night but I'm sure they'll understand 😊

Buggy looks great seahawk I rather naively thought they came assembled Blush

Glad you enjoyed the photo shoot kav (I still check in on the other thread too, wishing they can all join us soon). Hope the swelling goes down soon for you, this heat can't help.

Congratulations on the baby boy news tonks

I was wondering if any of you suffered from bad headaches early on? I'm 14 weeks and the last couple of weeks I've had headaches that last a couple of days. I'm not very good and drinking water so have been trying to drink more, hopefully this will help but I wondered if anyone has had similar? (I suffer from migraines a lot but this is just the headache side of it).

Hope you're all enjoying the sun and not too hot!

Miranda234 · 25/05/2017 16:35

Glad your last appointment went well moose, not long now, how exciting!!

Seahawk80 · 25/05/2017 18:22

Congrats eva that is the best news!! I was
Literally thinking of you he other day and wondering how you were getting on. It was finally warm enough to go outside for lunch at work and I was sat there remembering some of my early posts on ttc1 a year or so ago and thinking how lucky I am to now only be a few weeks away from mat leave.

We told some v close friends after an early scan and waited to tell everyone else after the 12 week scan. I told my family around the time of the 12 week scan but it was only so late because I was waiting to see them all together - none of them can keep a secret!

I've been lucky with the heat, have a decent (for London) commute and for once I'm grateful that our office is roughly the temperature of the North Pole. Have huge sympathy for everyone suffering. Last year our office aircon broke and I had to go home early and that was without being pregnant!

Mrsbluebell17 · 25/05/2017 20:02

Great to see you here Eva! I'm 11 weeks today, we've told all our parents now (we have 8 between us haha) and then we've told siblings, and two friends but we waited as long as possible to tell people. We are waiting until after the twelve week scan next week to tell everyone else, just for reassurance. It's really hard to contain the excitement. Also I've started to get a little podge at the front of my stomach and I think a few suspecting friends will start to notice soon so I'm hoping I can get through until the scan next week without them guessing.

Glad to hear all is moving forward for you moose. Will keep my fingers crossed for some exciting news soon for you.

No lasting headaches for me yet Miranda but I feel constantly dehydrated and can't stop drinking water.

Glad the heat isn't affecting you too badly Seahawk.

Seahawk80 · 25/05/2017 20:45

moose I meant to say glad all is good. I'm kind of in denial about you having your baby as I think I'm next 😱 although maybe fishy is due before me. I'm 34+4 today.

Musicgrrl · 25/05/2017 21:55

Loving all the activity on this thread now!

Congrats eva - it's lovely to have you here! Hope the countdown to your 8 week scan goes quickly!

moose so excited for you that your time
Is nearly here! I wonder whether baby will decide to come a bit earlier what with the heat. Have you found your later midwife appointments useful? I have yet to have an appointment that has made me come away feeling like I've learnt something useful.

seahawk hasn't fishy popped already! I think you are definitely next after moose and then it's on to August due dates isn't it?!

miranda I hope the hen do this weekend is fun and I'm sure they will be understanding. We arrived in York at 9pm this evening for the wedding tomorrow and DH has gone for drinks with some of his friends. I made excuses about washing my hair and came up to the room to chill. It has been a busy week and tomorrow is going to be a long day. One of the other ladies was like 'you can do that tomorrow' so I tried not to throw her the evils.

Posting in case I lose all this but more to say.
