#TTC1 - Second Wave grads thread the Second!

kavanaughkj · 30/03/2017 16:06

Hello all! Welcome to the second thread for the 'new wave' of grads from #TTC1 - the first wave ladies seem to have decamped en masse to Facebook now (I heard weaning mentioned last time I ventured onto it) so this is now officially the place to be!

We're pretty spread out over the pregnancy journey so far with some newbies and some about to pop Grin I'll try to maintain a list so if anybody wants to leave details of due dates and whether you're Team Blue, Pink or Vanilla (I think we're pretty heavily skewed towards Pink at the moment) then leave your details and I'll amalgamate them!

As Moose mentioned in our last thread, please do feel free to join in if this is your first time walking this weird and wonderful path - there is no such thing as TMI and we're all learning off each other!

Guys I'm selling my angel care monitor (model ac403). Bought it, took it out of the box, looked at it, put it back in the box and it's never been used since. It's a belting piece of kit but he basically went from sleeping in the moses basket to bed sharing with me so it probably on the get used here. Would rather it went to a good home. £40 (plus reckon p+p will be about a fiver, well I hope anyway!). Offering it here before I stick it on Gumtree lol.

WantingBaby1 · 02/05/2017 17:32

Audrey yes please! If you're sure you won't use It? Thanks for offeringSmile

AudreyBradshaw · 02/05/2017 17:52

Absolutely wanting it's all yours! If you pm me your address I'll go to the post office tomorrow morning! When he was newborn I didn't have the mental capacity to set it up and now he's in our bed so it may aswell get used !

WantingBaby1 · 02/05/2017 18:20

Thanks so much audrey! I'll pm you now Smile

Musicgrrl · 03/05/2017 07:43

Nooooooo! My super long message just deleted!

Musicgrrl · 03/05/2017 07:47

Going for a truncated version now, sorry guys.

moose how lovely of your friends and family! Was it like an impromptu baby shower? How are you feeling as you get closer to d day?

kav I have also reserved a nursery place on the basis of needing 5 days but hope to be able to arrange something with work.

seahawk you'll be 32 weeks before you know it - do you get another scan then? Btw I got the red pebble car seat from mothercare in the end. It's quite a vibrant colour but for £50 less we couldn't argue!

bluebell that's such exciting news from your scan! Sorry that you have another tww but at least it is taking you closer to your 12 week scan as well Smile

Musicgrrl · 03/05/2017 07:50

mrsg I'm getting my arse in gear and finally started buying stuff, following your lead - car seat and bedside crib. Feels like a start at least! We've also decided on the icandy peach for our pushchair. We have a narrow front door so it did restrict our options quite a bit!

mac so happy for your scan - it's such a special moment isn't it! I'm really glad we had an early scan as it made it a lot more real for me. I had practically no early symptoms so felt like a bit of a fraud!

Musicgrrl · 03/05/2017 07:51

fishy hope your headache goes soon but glad they've checked you for preeclampsia. That must be a relief at least. How many weeks are you now?

Getting on the tube now - sorry to those I have missed!

LovelyFishy · 03/05/2017 08:51

Kav I went through ups and downs of energy too, no two days were the same!

Seahawk I was thinking of hiring a cleaner, maybe just 1 day a week, for the trickier jobs about the house. I've never had one before though! How much do they charge if you don't mind me asking?

Music I'm 37+5 now. Baby's getting much lower, can defiantly feel it! Having to go for a glucose test now this morning, fizzy sugar drink on an empty stomachs is not fun. Bleugh!

Mrsbluebell17 · 03/05/2017 09:24

Hey ladies. I'm in the USA and clearly jet lagged as it's 04:23 am here and I've been awake half an hour.

Thanks for the note music. Only a week and a half to go until our next scan now and you're absolutely right then there should only be roughly around 3 weeks until our NHS scan too.

Can I ask how soon I would need to reserve a, or a couple of nursery places?

Seahawk80 · 03/05/2017 09:56

Nice to hear from you music lol at the car seat colour! I'd have much rather had the grey but for £50 less decided I could put up with red! I have another scan on Monday, really excited esp as DH has managed to get the afternoon off to come along. It's exciting buying stuff isn't it. I bought everything last month - our credit card bill is HUGE!!! The "nursery" now looks like a bomb has gone off. We also have sold our old chests of drawers and the new ones haven't arrived yet so that doesn't help!

Fishy I can't recommend having a cleaner enough. I'm gutted we can't afford one once I'm on mat leave but we'll have one again when I go back to work. There are 3 ways to get one. A) through what I'd call a high end agency e.g. Jane Jefferson - these are v good but expensive B) an agency that just finds you a cleaner but doesn't manage them - cheaper but I tried this once and the woman was useless. C) word of mouth - I recommend this - we had a great cleaner recommended by my BIL, she moved back to Brazil 3 months ago and now we have her rather erratic friend. I would get someone else but she does a good job when she comes and it's not worth it for 5 weeks. We pay £30 for a 2 bed flat in London for a basic clean with the odd extra job like inside of fridge she stays about 2-2.5 hrs. It depends how much you want done, some cleaners will do ironing / change your bed etc. Hope that helps!

Seahawk80 · 03/05/2017 11:52

Hi bluebell jet lag sucks - hope you feel ok. I'd ask a few nurseries near you as it really depends. My sister lives a 10 min drive from
me in London and she would have to register around the time of 12 week scan to get in based on a years mat leave, where I live you can wait until the baby is born but ideally register a bit before. Other areas are less crazy. I just thought it was one less job to to after I've had the baby and I know I'll have to go back to work. As the nursery I've chosen is quite big they can be flexible on which days I need nearer the time. A lot of people I know joined a nursery waiting list once they knew what they wanted and then used a childminder to cover the first few months back at work as there are more childminders than nurseries so you can always fine one. Hope that helps!

MrsG280516 · 03/05/2017 17:09

Decided today to bring our 4D scan date forward from 30 weeks to 27+2 so we get to see our little girl again next Tuesday Grin so excited to see her face!

Mrsbluebell17 · 03/05/2017 22:17

Thanks Seahawk that's great. Random question for you. Are you a Seattle seahawks fan?

Seahawk80 · 03/05/2017 22:27

Ha ha bluebell well spotted! I'm actually not but DH is. I was struggling for a username when I joined! He loves NFL, more than any other sport even though he's British. I think he thinks he'll watch NFL with the baby in the middle of the night - not sure how that will fit in with work 😂

mrsg that's exciting! I just have a standard scan on Monday and I can't wait!

Mrsbluebell17 · 03/05/2017 22:28

Haha Seahawk I love his theory. My DH is an NFL fan too and so I'm shopping for stuff for him whilst I'm in the USA.

marmitecheesetoast · 04/05/2017 03:56

Thanks all so much for your kind words and wishes, so lovely to read!!! 😍😍

Not so much time for MN now I'm a mummy!! (Feels so surreal to say that!!) we got home from hospital on Monday evening and just trying to find our feet at home. After being in hospital for 5 days it's felt a bit overwhelming to be out but we're getting there! Having a bit of a tough time at the moment as she's basically feeding constantly but only for short bursts at a time. MW said because she fed so little the first few days when she was so poorly with the infection we're playing catch up a bit now and the feeds should start getting longer and a bit more spaced out soon. That coupled with the fact she seems to hate being put down and will only sleep at night or settle during the day on either me or DH means it's really hard to get much sleep at all! She is absolutely gorgeous though and it's nice to have lots and lots of cuddle time!! I. Don't believe how hungry BFing makes me - puts pregnancy hunger to shame!!

I was about to catch up on everyone's else's news but looks like little pudding's finished this feed now so I'm going to try and sleep!

Sorry to be me, me, me will have to catch up properly soon.

But just quickly Fishy how are you doing? so exciting your now officially term! E really dropped about 37 weeks - its was great, you can suddeny eat and breathe properly again! But then you have the weeing and pressure to cope with instead!! Grin

Musicgrrl · 04/05/2017 08:03

Yay marmite it's lovely to hear from you! Please don't apologise for talking about your experiences - we want to hear all about it! It sounds as though BF is really tough to begin with. I'm glad baby E is getting up to full strength now though. What infection did she have? Is baby E a placeholder name or have you named her but prefer not to share on MN? (Just me being nosy so feel free to ignore, sorry!)

I'd be really interested to hear whether you felt that the hypnotherapy book you read or the one on pain coping techniques helped you manage the labour at all or whether it all went out of the window in the heat of the moment (which is what my DH thinks would be the case with anything I tried to prepare!)

mrsg that's so exciting re your 4D scan! Looking forward to hearing about that next week, and about seahawk's on Monday!

seahawk tell me about it re credit card bill. We have only just begun and it's like DH has only just realised the financial implications of having a child...

Seahawk80 · 04/05/2017 08:16

bluebell you've timed it quite well in terms of having a tiny baby during the NFL season - my DH is buying some tv pass in July so that he can watch baseball when the baby wakes up - honestly he's so weird with all the American sports. He's off to a fantasy NFL night tonight!

Hope the feeding calms down a bit marmite sounds like you're doing a great job. Glad you're finally home.

Had NCT last night, got on really well with another couple which is good. We talked about all the pain relief options and I'm a bit freaked out that I've already had gas and air and pethedin and didn't get on with either and an epidural sounds a bit hardcore. Think I'll just keep an open mind. I'll prob give gas and air another go as if I don't like it I can just stop. Last time I had it was to have my wisdom teeth out and it was used to put me under so smaller amounts might be better.

AudreyBradshaw · 04/05/2017 08:26

Marmite first few days/weeks are tough, cluster feeding while baby learns how to latch/eat/your supply is coming in. She will settle down with it it is just such a shock to the system. It may not happen but what first wave grads found was, in this time space, the initial hormone dump will happen, it's a bit mental. And once your home, be prepared for your Dh to 'just not get it' it may not happen yet. But basically, I hated dh with the passion of a thousand sun's on/off because he didn't get how hard it was and the adjustment. Don't get me wrong, he's wonderful, but he was borderline useless at certain things adjustments it made me furious because I'd had to learn! He was also so terrified of hurting L he basically carried him on a pillow, which now seems funny, at the time, burning fury! Hormones!

Mrsbluebell17 · 04/05/2017 10:35

So lovely to hear from you marmite.

Seahawk my DH is only really into the NFL but he generally likes all sports and follows things a bit. I went to the baseball this week why I'm in the states. I have to say it's quite an experience. Lots of fun! Oh yes DH will love the access to the NFL matches if he gets a chance Smile

Tonks87 · 04/05/2017 14:00

Hello, I'm sorry I've been awol since joining the thread a few weeks ago. I have been keeping up but I don't know where the time goes and haven't managed to post.

Congratulations marmite! What lovely news. Great that your both home and settling in.

How exciting bluebell! I hope your work trip is going ok and is not too tiring!

Glad your early scan went well mac, it's amazing seeing the baby for the first time. Good luck to the others waiting for scans, I'm looking forward to reading/seeing how they go.

I went for my dating scan today at 13 weeks and they put me at 13+5. It feels surreal that I've lost almost a week! I've also given in and ordered some maternity trousers as none of my work ones fasten anymore. Even the sonographer commented on my little bump. We best get a move on and start telling people!

#TTC1 - Second Wave grads thread the Second!
LovelyFishy · 04/05/2017 15:05

Seahawk that's really useful, thanks for all the info! Don't feel like I'm going in blind anymore. Glad your NCT class went well, are many of the others local or from further away?

MrsG super exciting on the 4D scan!

Marmite glad to hear things are going well if exhaustingly now! Can't believe you actually have your baby now! 😍 I'm doing good, 38 weeks tomorrow. Really feel ready for her now though so hopefully she won't make me wait long!

Starkey I'd forgotten until you mentioned that again, on the previous grads thread the anger/frustration at partners after birth!

Tonks congratulations on the scan! Were they still able to get the measurements ok?

Tonks87 · 04/05/2017 15:36

Thanks Fishy. Yeh they still managed the measurements. The NT was 2.4 which I panicked a bit over as it's on the high side, but I'm hoping it's because it was taken so late and is relative to the size of the baby.

We even saw him (or her!) open his mouth and swallow twice.

glitteryvibes · 04/05/2017 16:49

Lovely scan tonks amazing for jumping almost a week. Do you think you'll find out the sex?

I finally booked my booking in appointment today which is in a couple of weeks time when I'm 9 weeks.
