#TTC1 - Second Wave grads thread the Second!

kavanaughkj · 30/03/2017 16:06

Hello all! Welcome to the second thread for the 'new wave' of grads from #TTC1 - the first wave ladies seem to have decamped en masse to Facebook now (I heard weaning mentioned last time I ventured onto it) so this is now officially the place to be!

We're pretty spread out over the pregnancy journey so far with some newbies and some about to pop Grin I'll try to maintain a list so if anybody wants to leave details of due dates and whether you're Team Blue, Pink or Vanilla (I think we're pretty heavily skewed towards Pink at the moment) then leave your details and I'll amalgamate them!

As Moose mentioned in our last thread, please do feel free to join in if this is your first time walking this weird and wonderful path - there is no such thing as TMI and we're all learning off each other!

Audrey that's great to know you had no symptoms. Very reassuring. Thank you 😊

Starmist · 27/04/2017 06:29

Glittery thankfully I was never actually sick but I had the sicky feeling. I found snacking helped keep it at bay, I liked plain hobnobs & I'd have a bit of a biscuit fairly regularly. I also kept sipping on water. If you go to meetings etc make sure you always have a bottle of water & a snack with you.

LovelyFishy · 27/04/2017 06:37

Glittery I had super bad nausea to the extent I ended up on tablets. The only thing that helped me a little (apart from having a completely empty stomach!) was sour sweets.

Starkey I defiantly won't bother using the cycle again, who had all day to wait for a load of washing? Especially once you actually have a baby to take care of!

Still thinking of you Marmite!

Seahawk80 · 27/04/2017 07:23

Hi all, NCT was great, everyone seemed really nice and similar age / background so should be a good group. music it def made me feel like we're doing something if that makes sense and I think it will make the guys feel more involved.

star I'm going on mat leave at 37 weeks. I feel like I could work longer and my commute is quite easy but I have loads of holiday and thought the weather will be nice and I'll never have time to myself like that again! Last day is 9th June. Only 30 days left at work now 😊.

As far as symptoms go I hardly had any, felt a bit rough and boobs were a little bit sore but nothing major. Apart from the fact that if I get a tiny bit cold my nipples hurt like hell for about 10-15 mins (seriously the pain is hideous) I've been very lucky. I remember that early on it is a bit worrying and you worry that it means there is a problem but try to remember that it's more than likely that you're just very lucky!

Seahawk80 · 27/04/2017 07:25

Oh and wanting grr at bump comments! I've had someone tell me I'm huge and someone tell me I'm tiny on the same day in the same outfit!

macsworth · 27/04/2017 08:15

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Definitely glad I've made it in time to hear the new baby news!

I'm feeling fairly rough, spend most of the time either wanting to be asleep or really nauseous. Have actually only vommed a couple of times though. Back at work today and so going to have to work out how to deal with feeling like this and working!

Japan is crazy! Such a fascinating country. It's so easy to travel and so safe. The culture is so different!
I struggled hugely with the food because of nausea. I'm usually the kind of person to try anything once but i just couldn't bring myself to and developed a massive aversion to miso which is used in about 50% of their cooking!! Even typing about it now makes me feel ill!!!

Great news about your NCT group seahawk. Quite a few of my friends with kids made some really good friends through their NCT group.

I remember you getting your BFP skip. How far along are you now?

Hi bluebell and carley. The midwife told me not to worry about symptoms, unless you're bleeding or have severe cramps (mild ones are totally normal) then there is nothing to worry about and you ARE pregnant!

FXSkip · 27/04/2017 09:24

I'm 22 weeks, almost looked at a pram today but managed to talk myself out of it. Phew!

glittery and macs it is AWFUL feeling like this at work - like the worst hangover ever and it's all day every day! Unfortunately each person/baby combo is different so you just need to experiment until you find a combination that works for you. For me I ate breakfast things all day, yoghurt, granola and fruit and just kept full all the time. For others having an empty stomach is better. I also had two sessions of acupuncture which helped immensely. It will pass, you won't feel like this forever.

audrey I love having you here! I remember a time when I thought it would be you and me stuck on the ttc thread together forever and look where we are!

LovelyFishy · 27/04/2017 09:34

Skip I went pram shopping at about 24 weeks and it ended up being a really good idea as when I was further along and ready to buy I had really bad sciatic/hip pain and the last thing I wanted to do was trundle round shops! We already knew what we wanted and just had to go in quickly to buy it. Another good tip is pick somewhere with a coffee shop/cafe nearby. Initially we got so overwhelmed with all the different choices that we needed somewhere to retreat to and re-gather ourselves!

kavanaughkj · 27/04/2017 15:14

Just popping in to see if there was any news about baby Marmite - am on tenterhooks :)

Heya macs - I remember you! Welcome to the grads thread and congratulations! V. jealous of the trip to Japan, that is definitely on my bucket list. Glad you enjoyed it even if first trimester screwed with it a bit!

Sympathy to you and Glittery. I honestly never gave a moment's thought to how tough first trimester folks have it until I got pregnant. It's like before I conceived, the only pregnant people around were the ones with the big bumps showing. I had somebody offer me a seat on the train the other day for the first time due to my bump - the funny thing was, I would far more gratefully have accepted it during the first trimester when I was exhausted and felt like shit 90% of the time!! Was still nice to be offered though.

Glittery, I found I only ever felt normal during the first trimester if I was eating. I put on a lot of weight, vast amounts of it in macaroni cheese and potatoes ... rather that than the constant hangovery nausea though. And the exhaustion ... if you can find somewhere to take a sneaky nap during the day, do! I'd never have been able to get through the day without faceplanting my desk if I hadn't had a medical room I could retreat to for a strategic snooze.

Kav. I'm in the exhaustion stage at the moment at 7 weeks and really struggling so I just wanted to say thanks for posting as that's made me feel really reassured. Smile

MrsG280516 · 27/04/2017 16:25

Yes, just to echo what Kav says about the first tri exhaustion!! It was worst for me between 7-12 weeks, I was just so tired all the time.

I had the occasional wave of nausea but nothing I could class as sickness, I just needed to eat small but often snacks and sip water some days. I really feel for anyone who has to battle real sickness, it was my worst fear and luckily for me I had it easy.

Mrsbluebell17 · 27/04/2017 16:31

Thanks MrsG. That's really nice of you to post too and give me that reassurance. I keep eating to battle the nausea I have today. Haven't been sick yet thankfully. Hoping I'll avoid it. Fingers crossed I can cope with the exhaustion better as time goes on, it hit me last weekend and then got better again and then today I'm really struggling! HmmSmile

Seahawk80 · 27/04/2017 18:52

I found I was exhausted and cold a lot in the first trimester and ate all the carbs. I'd get home from work and lie under a blanket on the sofa eating salt and vinegar crisps and jacket potato with cheese! Just go with it, it won't last forever.

FXSkip · 27/04/2017 20:09

Good advice on the pram shopping! I don't even know where to get a pram....to be honest I might leave it up to DH as he is fussy and will probably use it more than me. Anyone know the difference between SPD and PGP and if a sore SI joint on one side classes as either of those? And what I can do? I know I should google it but I'm so tired and fed up I just want someone to tell me what to do. Sodding cat shat in the bath again, twice, and I just can't face it.

glitteryvibes · 27/04/2017 20:15

My nausea and retching progressed to vomiting last nightSad and then
Breakfast repeated itself this morning. Lunch was good though but can now feel dinner trying it's best to make a reappearance.
People at work know already (health and safety reasons really) which is good as they would otherwise probably be pissed off and the number of times I've dashed off to retch over the toilet bowl...

My friend vommed several times a day from 6 weeks until delievery and I have no idea how she coped. Most my friends just had mild nausea/needed to snack frequently but didn't actually vomit.

kav I love macaroni cheese, maybe I'll bulk cook it(or realistically get oh to) and then I can even have it for breakfast.

glitteryvibes · 27/04/2017 20:16

skip put a layer of tin foil on the bottom of the bath when it's not in use, cats bloody hate that stuff and won't scratch it up so won't toilet where you put it

AudreyBradshaw · 27/04/2017 20:56

Spd and pgp are the same thing skip just pgp is a more encompassing phrase and is taught to the newer people coming through, whereas spd is what it used to be called. Same arse about though. I was reffered to a physio for it by my midwife. Baby was sitting on my whatsit nerve in my back. Bloody painful.

LovelyFishy · 27/04/2017 21:08

Skip I had mostly right-sided pain as baby has been happily leaning in the right for the last 3 months! Started having generic pelvis pain from about 10 weeks too. Thankfully most of this subsided about 1 week ago. I found the only thing that helped was lying on my left side for a while. We went pram shopping in John Lewis just because they have such a large selection in store to play with! And bad kitty! Isn't there a citrus smell they don't like? Maybe try spraying some in the bath?

Glittery sorry to hear about the nausea, it's horrid I know. Sad

Seahawk80 · 27/04/2017 21:08

My sympathies skip pgp sounds awful. I had a trapped nerve at about 18 weeks and thought it was the start of pgp. I was lucky that it wasn't but it sounds horrible and those few days of pain made me realise how hard and debilitating it would be Flowers

Seahawk80 · 27/04/2017 21:10

Oh yes - John Lewis for prams - you can try them all out. I found it really helpful, even though we knew what we wanted it was good to rule the others out and justify the price of the bugaboo bee!

AudreyBradshaw · 27/04/2017 21:16

Babies r us (especially the bigger stores) usual have an excellent selection of prams too. Search online for the best deal as most places will price match if you're buying the whole travel system and a lot do buy the pram, get the car seat at discount/for free. Xx

Mrsbluebell17 · 27/04/2017 23:16

This Pram shopping advice is great to know. Also, any news on marmite?

Mooseville · 28/04/2017 06:34

We went to the Baby Show pram shopping and it was great as there is literally every pram under the sun and you can compare them side by side and get demonstrations. There was also a little obstacle course you could push them over to see how they handled curbs etc. However if you order from there, beware their delivery times are about 10 weeks but there was a good 10% off plus freebies!
Yes, to the early days being rough... I felt like I was in a fog and ate a LOT of salt and vinegar beige stuff! Can't help with the sickness though as mine passed very quickly - just don't be afraid of taking time off work if you need to. You and baby are most important now.
I'm thinking no new is good news from marmite

macsworth · 28/04/2017 10:23

Thanks for the reassurance about not feeling like this forever. I just feel totally useless! kav I know what you mean about never giving the first trimester a thought, it's such a weird feeling though because as crappy as I feel it's strangely reassuring and I am so grateful to be in this position.

Salt and vinegar crisps and ginger biscuits are currently my life line!!

Keeping fingers crossed that no news from marmite is good news!

skip if you're in pain I'd ask for a Physio referral sooner rather than later. It's much better to get on it early rather than wait for it to get really bad. Also, not sure if you're exercising much but stick with low impact stuff like yoga or swimming if you are.

FXSkip · 28/04/2017 12:18

Thanks for the advice everyone! I've tried everything I can think of with the cat - lemon peel, sprays, chicken wire, tin foil - he's just a little (adorable) bastard. I tried to scare him away when he was peeing in the bath and he just sort of shuffled away from my flapping hands, mid-pee, with a smirk on his face 🙈 had a look at prams last night, briefly, and I can't face going shopping for one - I hate all shopping - so we've all but decided on an uppababy vista - its light, flexible and is reasonably priced. I can't see myself caring much, you just sort of get on with it. I have seen a few people with Victorian style prams recently and that I don't get - those things are massive.
Lastly re exercise I'm not doing anything strenuous - hiking, cycling, yoga, bodypump and swimming - and it seems to be on and off no matter what. Will see physio next week.
Also thinking of marmite and hoping it's all going well for the family!
