#TTC1 - Second Wave grads thread the Second!

Hello all! Welcome to the second thread for the 'new wave' of grads from #TTC1 - the first wave ladies seem to have decamped en masse to Facebook now (I heard weaning mentioned last time I ventured onto it) so this is now officially the place to be!

We're pretty spread out over the pregnancy journey so far with some newbies and some about to pop Grin I'll try to maintain a list so if anybody wants to leave details of due dates and whether you're Team Blue, Pink or Vanilla (I think we're pretty heavily skewed towards Pink at the moment) then leave your details and I'll amalgamate them!

As Moose mentioned in our last thread, please do feel free to join in if this is your first time walking this weird and wonderful path - there is no such thing as TMI and we're all learning off each other!

Heya ladies - am back from Portugal after a lovely, relaxing week away (soooo nice not to have to wake up to an alarm clock each morning, and the last couple of nights I've not even had to get up to pee!) but wanted to give Marmite a hug. I still checked in each morning while I was away to see if baby Marmite had arrived - we're all holding our breaths for you!

Starmist, I'm so sorry you've been going through so much stress. Hoping very much you will have good news from the Harmony test - I had mine early after Moose had not such a great result from the NHS test and I'm so glad I did as it took a lot of the stress away from me in the early days. That said I had the same pincushion problems as you - apparently the lady that took my bloods at the fertility clinic mucked up my veins so that when the midwife tried to take blood a few days later nothing was coming out of one side and she didn't want to risk the other as it was tough to get to for some reason. I had to go back after a week to allow my veins time to heal from the puncturing the clinic gave them. Weird feeling seeing a needle in your arm but no blood - I was like - what's in there, sand??

Baby moving loads now. I'm finding it wakes up these days mostly while I eat or when I lie down to go to sleep - that said, it's booting me while I type this now! It's so reassuring though after months of wondering if it was even in there.

Star Wars clothes are a good excuse for shopping, Seahawk Grin

marmite I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe baby will be obstinate and turn up today just as you are preparing to go in for induction! I know nothing about labour yet but is an induced labour a lot more different than a natural one? (Sorry for my ignorance!) I'm sure your hypnobirthing will stand you in good stead either way Smile

My friend is in a similar head space now. Her baby was breech and so she was scheduled for a c-section to happen yesterday at 39 weeks. She went in and baby had turned around (even though it hadn't budged when they'd tried to move it the week before!). The consultant and midwives were really surprised but it means she has been sent home to wait for a natural labour. They won't induce her until 10 days after her due date so she could be waiting another 2.5 weeks! Also the estimated weight of her baby is already 9lb now...

Seahawk the hand me down option sounds like a good bet. We haven't had any offers so far but we don't know many people with kids and obviously other people don't know that we have found out the gender yet. The one thing we were offered was a nappy sanitiser bin for free which we snapped up Smile It looks a bit lonely sitting in the nursery without any other baby things at the moment! Ha.

Moose glad you enjoyed the classes. I think they will be good for exactly that - getting DH into the right frame of mind! And for reassurance. I'm excited for when ours kick off at the end of June.

Starmist that's very reassuring about the nuchal fold measurements. It is a shame but private place do have access to better technology than the NHS and they can devote more time to things so I would say it's more likely to be accurate. Sorry you have to go in again for bloods. I would second the recommendation to be very warm when you go in and make sure you've eaten recently.

Will catch up more later!

FXSkip · 25/04/2017 12:09

Hi everyone!! I'm also just back from Portugal - where were you kav?
marmite just goes to show how endlessly thoughtless people are about pregnancy. Yesterday at work someone asked me if everything was ok at the 20wk scan and I said 'if it wasn't, do you think that this would be the ideal forum to discuss any issues? In front of the whole office?' I think that, combined with my threat to take anyone who mentioned my weight to HR, has truly cemented my position as terrifying manager Blush but, I hope it makes them think twice about thoughtless comments. Anyway, whether natural or induced I hope that your birth is swift and as painless as possible!

kavanaughkj · 25/04/2017 12:21

Ooo - I was in Armacao de Pera in the Algarve, Skip - beautiful sunny weather, though a bit hot for me in the first few days of the week - and blowing a gale over the last couple of days. Anywhere near where you were?

I think my favourite part was a restaurant called Ze Leiteiro which charged 14 EUR for as much fresh fish as you could eat - if anybody ever goes there it's deservedly top spot on Trip Advisor and SO good. Grin Did lots of walking which I'm attempting to keep up now I'm back.

Oh that sounds great! We were mostly further down the coast but did do the 7 hanging valleys walk from Praia do Marinha last week, so quite close! We went to Albufiera for lunch one day but I didn't like it - I mostly found the food quite poor to be honest! Loved all the sunny walks and bike rides though.

Seahawk80 · 25/04/2017 16:19

Thinking of you marmite - and star, hope this week goes quickly for you.

I'm so bored at work at the moment, we are a bit overstaffed and I can't wait to start mat leave now! I have 2 days off after today and tonight we're going to John Lewis to order the buggy and other bits so am impatiently waiting for the work day to end!

MrsG280516 · 25/04/2017 16:42

Got my fingers crossed that baby makes an entrance today/tonight for you Marmite, either way I'm sure you'll be fine.

Exciting about the classes everyone is doing, we're signed up to some free NHS ones with the community midwives in June, 2-2.5 hours a week for 3 weeks so I'm looking forward to those.

Great to hear about the private scan and them not being so concerned Star, I think with your low blood risk results that maybe the NHS scan was just not accurate.

Lovely holidays Skip and Kav, we are going to Santorini 3 weeks on Saturday and I am sooo excited. Been looking at photos of the area all day today (too distracted to work much!) and willing the time to go fast!

I bought a baby monitor and also a baby bath the other day which have arrived this week and, dare I say it, we are pretty much fully stocked with everything we need! Just finishing touches to be made to the nursery over the next 15 weeks and general nesting. There's some house and garden bits I want tidying up before baby arrives but nothing too huge. So exciting!

Seahawk80 · 25/04/2017 18:33

Wow you're so organised mrsg I need to follow your example! I've been putting things off as I need to sell my Laura Ashley dressing table and matching furniture to give us more storage space in our room as currently a lot of our clothes live in the spare room which won't be practical anymore. I've put them all on eBay this week so that we can get sorted and pack the baby's stuff away in its room.

It's good they have the NHS classes where you are, a few people on the July thread don't have any NHS options at all.

WantingBaby1 · 25/04/2017 18:58

Ah the holidays sound lovely!

Hope you're doing ok marmite and star.

A friend is a week overdue and totally miserable poor love :( I'm not telling anyone IRL my due date - she's so sick of the messages saying "when is baby arriving"! As if she has any say in the matter!!

Saw some childless friends today who couldn't believe how big I was and thought I was ready to pop. Errr...im almost 6 months pregnant...you try hiding a football sized uterus containing a 35cm baby in size 12 body They actually asked whether I thought I'd get much bigger! Ah youthful naevity!!

MrsG280516 · 25/04/2017 20:45

I feel similar wanting a few people at work have said my bump has come out of nowhere the past few weeks and I'm just like... well I do only have 3 months to go!

I think there comes a point after 20 weeks when your body just shows a lot differently so you suddenly look huge to people who don't see you every day!

Musicgrrl · 26/04/2017 08:08

More from me:

marmite I will be thinking of you today! It's induction day right?! Good luck whichever way it goes (maybe you're already in labour now?!)

bluebell I had painful acne type spots in the first trimester. I also used witch hazel to sooth them but generally just accepted my face as being unattractive and painful for a while! They have actually gone away completely in the second trimester and I am less spotty than I normally am when not pregnant.

fishy you're getting close now too! Exciting Smile

kav glad you had a lovely holiday and are now feeling full on baby movement.

fxskip glad you also had a great holiday (getting jealous here!) People do say some strange things to pregnant ladies don't they! I find that some people don't know what to say so they come out with something weird or inappropriate.

seahawk I get you re work. I don't have a lack of things to do but staying motivated is seriously tough. I am at least trying to keep up the pretence for a bit longer.

mrs can't believe you are so organised! We have bought a grand total of two things so far (a sling and a bedside cot which has yet to be delivered). We have also been gifted a nappy bin. So we have a bit of a way to go!

wanting that's a good idea re due date. I might start telling people it's late August as opposed to mid...

Our cat has started off our morning well for us. My DH went down to feed her and she has left us two dead birds and several pools of sick over night! Delightful. I have stayed in the bedroom while he deals with it...

LovelyFishy · 26/04/2017 09:04

Good luck for today Marmite! Totally excited for you, can't wait to hear all about baby!! GrinFlowersBear

I remember getting comments like that at work, saying "wow, you're huge!". I was a bit grrrrr inside. After a few weeks of this I ended up saying I'm actually measuring up a bit small according to midwife!

Still need to pack hospital bag but it may wait a day or two, feeling rather lazy today. Put up some shelves and did a lot of tidying yesterday so that makes it all ok, right?

MrsG I am so jealous of you going to Santorini!! There's a little boutique hotel there I'd love to stay at but it's strictly no children. Sad One day, when they're a bit older, for an anniversary type weekend away maybe...

LovelyFishy · 26/04/2017 09:05

Music how lovely of your cat! It does sometimes amaze me how much I still love my cats even after they've been such a-holes!

Mooseville · 26/04/2017 09:31

Getting carpets fitted today! Feeling a bit more relaxed now I know at least upstairs in the house will be clean and baby friendly! Even if the downstairs is still a building site and has dirty old carpet!

I've just started packing my hospital bag - I seem to be taking quite a lot! I think I've overpacked! Managed to get a few babygrows on the line too this morning, fingers crossed it doesn't rain! I wasn't going to wash them but then someone mentioned mouse wee in the warehouses for new clothes, so I've caved and done the very newborn ones!

DP is away on a stag do abroad this weekend so I hope little one stays put! I've a friend coming to stay to look after me, just in case! Think we're going out for a nice lunch on Saturday - she's booked somewhere as a suprise all I know is I have to get us to London for 12:30! Can't wait!

Mrsbluebell17 · 26/04/2017 14:55

Thanks music. That's good to know.

Moose that sounds exciting re Saturday.

Marmite I'm thinking of you!

macsworth · 26/04/2017 14:58

Hello! I'm very shyly popping my head round the door to say hi!

I got my bfp a week before going on holiday to Japan and having got back last night I thought I'd say hi.

I'm only 8+5 so currently flipping between anxiety about things going wrong and excitement. I had my booking appointment this morning and I'm due Dec 1st.

The TTC #1 group is so supportive that I'd love to join you ladies here. I actually lurked on there for a while before joining so recognise quite a few of the names on here.

FXSkip · 26/04/2017 16:25

Hi macs I remember you too - you were around cycle 6 I think when I left - so huge welcome to you here! We've a few waiting to pop, as it were, so you're just in time to meet the new bubbas 😁

LovelyFishy · 26/04/2017 17:52

Moose glad the house is coming together more. It's a good feeling getting it done but stressful while it's happening. I did some baby clothes washing the other day, used baby cycle on washing machine - it takes twice as long as normal, not what you need! I have images of urgently needing baby washing done and having a naked baby about the house! Shock

Welcome Macs! Hope Japan was amazing, DH and I would love to go! Once little one is a bit older maybe.

Seahawk80 · 26/04/2017 18:21

Welcome macs and congrats!

I've had a huge panic today about getting things ready. We can't finish the nursery until I sell my old furniture which should happen in the next few weeks so instead I've bought everything we need for the baby and my hospital bag!

Seahawk80 · 26/04/2017 18:23

Oh and first nct tonight - things are staring to feel very real!

Mrsbluebell17 · 26/04/2017 18:47

Hey Macs (waves!)

How are you? So pleased you've joined here. How was Japan? Smile

Carley27 · 26/04/2017 18:49

Hi, sorry I have been absent, just back from holiday (although I was lurking every day to check if marmite had posted any news!).

I'm 5+4 now and still symptomless, got my 3+ on my remaining CBD today but still struggling to believe I'm actually pregnant!

Hi macs, I remember you from the other thread, I must have got my BFP the cycle after you as EDD late Dec. Good to see you here 🙂

Aw so exciting you are getting things organised Seahawk, bet it's a good feeling getting things done!

Moose the mouse wee thing 😮 yuck! How lovely that your friend is coming to look after you, sounds like a fun weekend!

I'm so glad you've said that your spots have gone music, my skin has generally been rubbish since coming off the pill but I had a horrendous breakout the cycle of my BFP, been like that for about a month now. Touch wood it has massively improved in the last couple of days so I am praying for a pregnancy 'glow' 🙏 oh goodness your cat 😬 glad your DH was there to deal with it!

Starmist · 26/04/2017 19:27

Thanks for thinking of me lovelies. Went to have my bloods retaken yesterday. The woman got loads out of me, no trouble at all. At least it's all sorted, now it's just a waiting game. Trying to forget about it as much as we can now. Hope the next week or so goes fast.

Keep thinking of you Marmite. Hope you have your gorgeous little baby soon.

Kav great to hear from you. Glad you had a lovely holiday. I agree, it's so reassuring to feel baby move & know they're ok.

Have missed you too FXSkip glad to hear you had a great holiday as well. I'm very jealous. Love your response to the inappropriate comment!

Seahawk when are you going on mat leave? I put my form in today, last day in the office will be 28th July. Bring. It. On. Wish I was bored, our place is crazy stressful. Let us know how NCT goes, hope there's some nice friendly people there.

Mrs ah it must be exciting to feel you have things ready. I can't wait to get the nursery done!

Congrats & welcome Macs. How are you feeling?

Carley hope you had a nice holiday. I know it's so hard but try not to worry about not having symptoms, a lot of people don't have them. Try to distract yourself with other things if you can.

Sorry I've not mentioned everyone, I'm rushing to catch up xx

AudreyBradshaw · 26/04/2017 21:39

lovely don't bother using a specific baby cycle. I do L's stuff on quick wash now. When he was first born I refused to put mine/dh's stuff in even the same washing basket in case we contaminated him in some way. My mum suggested putting everything in the machine together and you'd have thought she'd suggested washing the baby in turps and leaving him outside to dry! I was am PFB to the max, I still in his little vests (easier to get then on)

Welcome all newbies and CONGRATULATIONS! I was on the first of the first ttc thread many moons ago and have an almost 5 month old!! I stick around like a bad penny!

carleu I never had a single symptom. Wouldn't have known I was pregnant unil I was about 26 weeks and the bump popped out! Try not to worry x

glitteryvibes · 26/04/2017 21:43

And tips for coping with nausea/retching whilst at work? It's really started to ramp up the last few days. I have a selection of very. Beige food like crackers and ginger biscuits that I snack on quite frequently and that seemed to help to begin with but I've just kept heaving and retching today without any vomiting. I'm only 5+6 and I'm pretty phobic about actually vomiting.

Hope things are going well marmite

Fx for your bloods returning good results star

Hi macs how are you feeling?
