I was also a breech baby. I was fine apart from being born with dislocated hips. Grin My mum said even then it was unusual and she had loads of students and midwives observing. If it were me I'd probably attempt a breech vaginal delivery but then I've had vaginal deliveries before, if it were my first o probably wouldn't. But another very individual decision to make.

nursebickypegs · 27/03/2017 21:42

I was breech too! Dislocated hips as well. My mum is very tiny, 4ft11 and I was very big and long.

savagehk · 27/03/2017 21:45

Breech is normally cs nowadays. If it were me I'd probably have a cs, but purely because I grow babies with big heads, it seems. (Mine is also sizeable).
Otherwise it depends on presentation, some breech positions are safer than others; and on the experience of the midwives/doctors at breech deliveries.

Re things to buy for you, I'm a huge fan of the earth mama angel baby bottom spray. And I'll be using lactulose plus psyllium husk too (from now actually, but in small doses). Hopefully not needed, but after the stitches last time i didn't want to have to worry about the first poo, and between those two i certainly didn't!

MrsJW15 · 27/03/2017 21:45

Wish that does sound pretty frustrating! Mine usually mean well but it can be quite hard to get them to focus - they weren't really able to engage with us on our wedding in the way we wanted - it's quite hard to explain but it's like they weren't really able to focus on some stuff until the last minute. Meaning there was a disaster with MIL's hair and I had to have her kept away from me. Peach they seemed surprised that we were surprised... I'm going to try to get DH to talk to them but I'm trying to tread carefully around being rude. I slightly think it's a bit outrageous.

Esmes nothing from the HV here. I may ask the midwives when I'm in next week. Being at an out of area hospital is complicated.

Barnes endless tips about what I have to do drive me mad! The latest is mum ringing to tell me what a colleague has told her. Today it was that we should pack clothes for DH and snacks in the hospital bag!

Teaspoon do you have a fitness ball? Sitting/leaning on that can (apparently) really help.

Autumn I'm sort of in the not thinking about it mode with this. I've got big knickers and pads and that's all!

peasandquiet · 27/03/2017 21:45

Autumn you will need more pads! You will be changing every couple of hours round the clock for first few days, 70-100 wouldn't be too many, I used at least 5 in my relatively short labour as my waters just kept on coming.
Love the thought of what have we all got for ourselves tho. Answer currently is sadly jot a lot for me. I am collecting samples of lovely beauty products for my hospital bag so i have some posh skin care for after yo make me feel nice! Not forgetting the bottle of champagne I have waiting to go on ice nearer the time!

yellowismyfavourite · 27/03/2017 21:50

I just typed this but for some reason it didn't post!

I don't mind the baby advice from work... but I do mind the personal comments especially from parents when I am trying really hard to keep professional! Usually comments about my bump size!

claire hoping it moves up tea good luck with getting baby to move. I love my exercise ball and definitely recommend one if you don't have one

I feel like baby is really low down today.... lots of pressure low down and feel like I need to use the bathroom loads!! Hopefully find out more at scan on Wednesday

savagehk · 27/03/2017 22:01

peas I'm sure I didn't go through that many last time (!). This time I have one or two boxes of disposables and am trying washable pads as well... I only have about 3 of those dedicated postpartum ones, but do have a few normal 'period' ones too. I think the bleeding is the one thing it's hard to be sure of as it varies so much woman to woman (and even I think birth to birth!).

newbieho · 27/03/2017 22:02

Good luck @Teaspoon74 and @ClaireSunflower , hope the babies/ placenta turn around!

RasperryInAMelon · 27/03/2017 22:03

@peasandquiet I got gifted a 3 month birch box subscription today which was lovely, will be nice to have a few bits to treat myself with while I'm off ☺

@yellowismyfavourite I've got a solid bum at the top and am getting full on fanny daggers low down tonight 😩

Barnes79 · 27/03/2017 22:04

Bit of a random question, but any recommendations on what maternity pads to get?

teainbed · 27/03/2017 22:09

I have two boxes of Boots maternity pads and two of normal Always ones. I never wear them and really dislike them so as soon as I can change from maternity ones to normal ones I do!

peasandquiet · 27/03/2017 22:19

Barnes I have some Boots ones this time, used Tesco last time. That's a good point savage all will have diff blood loss. Grim details here but I found I literally had gushes of blood in tho first 48hrs so was cracking through the pads. I am the sort of person who would change really regularly for fear of leaks tho. I found maternity pads fine till I moved onto something much lighter when it slowed down, it was winter tho. I hate the plasticity texture of a ST, maternity ones seem to be more 'gauzey' (I know it's not a word!)
Savage I wish I was more ok with the reusable concept as think they would be so much more comfortable, just couldn't cope with the storing/washing/drying of them.

Rasberry- Ooh birch box, do you know what your getting in it?! We have a monthly gin box in this house that I cannot wait to start sampling in may!

Baby advice is noticibly less when your into number 2 ... people must seem to think you know what your doing 😂 If I hear 'your going to have your hands full' with a sarcastic tone and head tilt one more time however....

RasperryInAMelon · 27/03/2017 22:20

I picked up some Sainsbury's ones but need to get more.

I've used tampons for as long as I can remember because I HATE towels 😩

peasandquiet · 27/03/2017 22:23

Same rasberry it's horrible ... the worst part is it took months and months for a tampon to be vaguely comfortable again.

yellowismyfavourite · 27/03/2017 22:32

I have boots ones... and some regular towels too.
same here raspberry although I can't use tampons so I have a mooncup. Dreading using towels!
Is there a link between having heavy periods and bleeding after birth?

savagehk · 27/03/2017 22:33

The reusable ones are so much more comfy :) After using reusable nappies the idea is less gross. I use some for periods too, but only as backup for the mooncup (don't trust a mooncup on its own although it practically never has any leaks at all).

I used natracare last time and will do so again this time.

re tampons, after finding a mooncup - pre birth - I've never really looked back, but on the few times I've had to use a tampon post-birth I find it much less comfortable than it was before.

savagehk · 27/03/2017 22:34

yellow I don't think so. Also, periods change post baby. I've been lucky and don't get any more period cramps (not that I had them too badly to begin with) and they're perhaps slightly lighter than before, although not significantly. Others find the opposite though - heavier/more painful/turn into hormonal lunatic...

RasperryInAMelon · 27/03/2017 22:37

Have been in bed for the last hour tossing a turning wanting to go to sleep... back is KILLING me, can't prop myself up it makes my reflux worse.

nursebickypegs · 27/03/2017 22:37

I've got some of the ALWAYS infinity pads and some boots heavy period pads. Since I hit 29, my periods became horrendous and not even tampons helped!

Badgerbird · 27/03/2017 23:04

Thanks for ecover/nappy advice savage. Also added earth Mama bottom spray to list Wink

I panic bought a sitz bath when my lone pile arrived a few weeks ago but haven't even got it out of box! Thinking it could come in handy after birth though?

Glad scan went well teainbed :)

Thanks raspberry and peach, somehow after that appointment it all feels more real and now I'm even more worried of things going wrong and my heart totally breaking. Ridiculous I know!! These crazy preggo hormones Wink

claire glad baby's ok but sorry to hear placenta still low and they've scared you! Step away from google.

teaspoon are you going to try moxibustion to turn baby? I understand acupuncture/alternative therapies aren't everyone's cup of tea but our mw at antenatal class has mentioned twice now how it has a better success rate for turning babies than the Drs do..

Hope you feel better tomoz nurseb after your rest day.

What's a birch box raspberry?? Hopefully you are now fast asleep now....

Autumnsweater · 27/03/2017 23:05

Thanks everyone. I'll get more pads would rather have too many. I only find the Natracare ones comfy for normal periods so am sticking to those!

After the initial few days of heavy bleeding am I right in expecting a few weeks of 'lighter' bleeding? Is this similar to a period?

@Savage I was looking at the Earth Mama bottom spray! I'll get it then every little helps! Good idea about lactulose I keep meaning to do that. What is a low dose?

peas my thought process was everyone will buy stuff for the baby so I need to me some stuff as noone else will! Also i think it helps me channel any anxiety about birth into organisation Grin! I need to get on the champagne though bit more glamorous than maternity pads 😂!

coxsorangepippin · 27/03/2017 23:11

Is a peri bottle actually different from a water bottle with a sports cap? Blush

stationaryace · 27/03/2017 23:41

pads - I still have leftover from last time, I think I used 5 over 2 days, just wasn't a bleeder.

reusable nappies - washing instructions is one of the many minefields that everyone has a contrasting opinion on, including the manufacturers. Personally I use bio-powder as I've found this gets the cleanest results, as nappies shouldn't smell of urine or detergent. Soap nuts are generally out of fashion with the makers but some people swear by them.

Spent the afternoon in maternity hospital after baby had an elevated heartbeat at my 33 week check (prod it a little less next time and it might not get so pissed off!) and found out there is currently a large back log for inductions at our hospital. The woman next to me was basically begging for an induction and was told pretty much no chance - medical emergency or 40+13 only. MLU only re-opened in February so interesting to see how staffing shortages are affecting other departments.

Oh and I'm packing salt sachets in my hospital bag - I forgot how bland and sad the food is!

Autumnsweater · 27/03/2017 23:52

Cox Ha very good point.. no it isn't !! I didnt pay for mine anyway as got it in work so didn't matter but top tip there!

Adventuregame · 28/03/2017 03:08
