Just wanted to pass on that I went to Boots this afternoon and at the moment you can get the Maternity Essential kit with the 25% off voucher they send out when you sign up for the Parenting Club plus 15% off in store so it works out at £9 instead of £15.

oliversmummy26 · 11/07/2017 14:52

I took my rings off when we had that first really warm heat wave as fingers were just too chubby. But since then GD diet has meant that my fingers have gone down again so put them back on at the weekend for a hen do and they're pretty loose, engagement ring keeps spinning round! Hoping I can keep them on now. I have a cheapy engagement ring I had been wearing, but much prefer my proper ones Smile

puttingourhoodupdown · 11/07/2017 22:59

Dropped off this thread again! Sorry so many are feeling crappy!

londonfeather · 12/07/2017 07:38

I'm off to the physio today. What started as a bit of a bad back and hip has developed into such bad trapped nerve pain and an aching wrist and hand all down my left hand side. It's making me so immobile and means I can't walk or sleep properly! NOT FUN!

StarWish1 · 12/07/2017 07:53

I took my rings off yesterday too. Feels so strange without them.
Springtosummer what is the Boots kit? I haven't heard of it before. What types of things do you get in it?
Anyone packed their hospital bag yet?

fluffywallow · 12/07/2017 08:06

Star, I started putting a few bits in this week (I have two small bags, one for me one for baby) and wrote my list. Think I'll pop to the shops today for some vests/sleepsuits and a 'going home' outfit for baby (hopefully this baby will fit the things I buy - we had to send my mum out for emergency clothes with my DD as she was so tiny!)

31+5 today and expecting to have her at 39 weeks so only 7 weeks to go Grinwhere has the time gone!!

Hope your appt goes ok London

EssentialHummus · 12/07/2017 08:19

Flowers london

I have half packed my hospital bag, as we're moving house next week and I want everything in one place when we need it. Am 32+2.

Nothing much to report here, but have joined an antenatal yoga class and really enjoying it, nice to meet other ladies in my shoes.

SpringtoSummer · 12/07/2017 08:25

star it just has maternity pads, breast pads, nipple cream & spray for stretch marks but all comes in a bag so I feel as though I am a bit more ready for any hospital dash now! While I was there I also got some small toiletries to put in it like toothpaste, lipbalm etc so I have the basics.

GrumpySusan · 12/07/2017 08:49

My rings were starting to feel a bit snug so I took them off. It does feel a bit odd without them but I'm not missing them so they must have been annoying me more than I realised!
I've got a carrier bag on the go for hospital. Can I ask, when people say get big knickers, do they mean like full briefs or just bigger size or both?!
I went to aquanatal yesterday and slipped down the steps into to pool! Bashed my feet a bit but no harm done.

fluffywallow · 12/07/2017 08:51

Hi grumpy I got insanely huge full briefs last time and will do again - I am talking Bridget jones but supersize. They were great. I had midwifes helping me put them on after so nice big and easy were ideal.

WhatwouldRuthdo · 12/07/2017 11:09

I've picked up some giant knickers and some smaller, just bigger size ones. Want to have options in case I need a c-section (not planned but you never know) and want to avoid rubbing the scar

oliversmummy26 · 12/07/2017 11:09

I've got a 5 pack of full black knickers in a size larger than I would usually wear from Tesco for £4, will just chuck them in the bin when I don't need them anymore. I'm having ELCS so need something which won't sit on my scar..

EssentialHummus · 12/07/2017 11:16

If anyone else is looking for something to wear in labour/just after, I've gone for this - black, light, allows breastfeeding.

fluffywallow · 12/07/2017 14:23

That's great thanks essential think I'll get the same - I've been looking out for something but not had any luck.

SayItIsntSo1 · 12/07/2017 14:51

For those having ELCS that will be a second section, do you have any reassuring words that they generally feel like a calm, controlled experience?

I am requesting one at my consultant apppintment next week for a few reasons (previous MCs, traumatic VD with first birth, anxiety in this pregnancy). I think it's the right decision for me, but still realise it's major surgery so there's risk involved.

GrumpySusan · 12/07/2017 15:00

That's helpful thanks all! I think I'll pop to m&s or something and find some nice big soft pants a size or two above my usual...
Good spot Essential that reminds me, last time I was in primark they had a nice nightshirt in the pj bit- it was long and black, button front and had 3/4 length sleeves- think it was £8 and I thought at the time it might be useful for post birth.
It was really warm at the time though and the thought of clothes sleeves repulsed me.

EssentialHummus · 12/07/2017 15:07

grumpy - Sainsbury's was also good for giant pants, 5 for £5 I think.

MrsY87 · 12/07/2017 17:11

Say I had an EMCS for my first but it felt like a controlled and calm experience as the reason for it was my DD was breach so not an emergency in a must happen how sort of way.

I walked to theatre, chatted with the anaesthetist, they asked if I wanted my own music or if I was happy with the radio. I had skin to skin, they lifted baby over the curtain so we could see the sex, DH cut the cord etc. It's all a bit of a blur as DD was a bit early so it was unexpected but it wasn't a negative experience and I imagine much like what an ELCS would be like.

I also recovered pretty well and was up and about within 24hrs, driving within 3 weeks. I'm going to try for a VBAC this time but that is more due to wanting to experience a natural birth than having had a negative CS experience. Hope that's helpful and you get what you want when you meet with the consultant Smile

Travelgeek · 12/07/2017 21:15

I've bought a black sleeveless nursing nightie from Asda for £10 so I can bin it afterwards. I'd post a link to it if I knew how to!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 12/07/2017 22:33

Matalan also do cheap knickers. 5 for £5. I've bought knickers 2 sizes larger than normal so that I have plenty of room now for bump, and so that they're loose enough after birth.

When I was in hospital last time I just wore pj bottoms and loose scrappy tops. Just lifted top up to breastfeed. I just wore loose tops most of the time I was breastfeeding - I didn't buy any nursing tops specifically. Too much money lol.

I'm feeling sick this evening. I think it's just because of the heartburn. I might call the Dr's in the morning and see if I can go back on omneprazole to help with it. I was on it from 19 weeks with DD so I think I've done well to get to 30 weeks this time.

Baby's room is empty and ready for decorating. With 10 weeks left to go I'm starting to get antsy about getting things ready. Obviously baby's room doesn’t need to be finished yet and he/she will be in with us to begin with, but I'd like everything to be sorted and organised first. I'm definitely starting to feel the need to get hospital bag prepped and wash all of dds clothes that I kept.
(Off to write several lists......)

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 12/07/2017 22:36
  • strappy tops, not scrappy
Travelgeek · 12/07/2017 23:19

That's the one essential!

StarWish1 · 13/07/2017 12:30

Thanks Springtosummer

I haven't got as far as packing the hospital bag yet but I have got a list of what I need and I've ordered a holdall (worried it might be too big but I figure it's better to have a bit of space rather than have to squeeze it in). Just went for a plain black holdall with two handles + a cross body strap. I needed a new one as I have a few nights away planned over the next couple of weeks so I'll need to use my normal weekend bag for those.

I was looking at those today too Essential. Going to check in Primark for alternatives before I order it.

Feeling a bit confused by what the baby will need in terms of clothes (first baby so I'm clueless!). If I go for ELCS it'll be end of August, if natural and overdue I'll be first week or two of September. Am I along the right lines to think of buying a pack of 5 bodysuits and a pack of 5 sleepsuits? Should I buy newborn or 0-3m size?

EssentialHummus · 13/07/2017 13:06

It was in my basket travel Grin

star - equally clueless here but have gone for 5 bodysuits and sleepsuits in Newborn, 5 in 1 Month (I think Sainsb., Boots, and a few others do this size), 5 in 0-3. What I read on here which made a lot of sense is to buy some stuff close enough to your due date so you can return/exchange if they're totally not needed.
