I see there's a thread for early November due dates but I can't see that anyone's started one for the later dates yet. Not sure yet if this one will stick around but if it does it'll be our DC3, due around the 18th.

Someone come chat to me?!

NoCats, I live in the US...all healthcare is expensive. Even though I have really good health insurance (I work for a medical practice) I still need to cover 30% of all costs. My doctors fees alone for the 9 months are nearly 6K total. Nevermind what the hospital will charge on top. Since I had a c-section the last time there is no avoiding the hospital Sad
Oddly, though, the harmony test might be included as it's due to age. I have to call my insurance company to find out.

The also offered me a test that tests me for certain stuff. This one is out of pocket so will cost me $200. If I come back positive then they will test DP to see the likelihood of the baby having the diseases. I'm on the fence about this one. I'm almost 40 and have the most boring medical history. I wonder if it's really necessary. I hid the papers in the car (I had to pick DC up and don't want him to know yet). I'll get the information when I get to work and will as you all what you think, if that's okay.

Stuckinstressville · 31/03/2017 12:11

So initial tests are back and Bhcg is very low and progesterone is only 19... she said the delayed bhcg were not in yet but given my progesterone being so low this is unlikely to progress. Poss linked to thyroid.

So looks like am out ladies- thank you for all the support and good luck with your journeys x

GingerHanna · 31/03/2017 12:16

Oh stuck I am so awfully sorry. You must be devastated. Do you have someone with you or someone you can turn to for cuddles?

Stuckinstressville · 31/03/2017 12:44

Ginger ... yes I do! My two Burmese cats and dc1 :) all most cuddly.

GingerHanna · 31/03/2017 12:53

Cats are the best... they really are!

MrsGB2225 · 31/03/2017 12:55

I'm so sorry stuck, I hope your cars and DC1 are giving you extra cuddles. Xxx

harrietm87 · 31/03/2017 12:56

stuck I'm so sorry - think I got you mixed up with stuckinny earlier. Hope you get all the time you need to feel better.

NoCatsHere · 31/03/2017 12:57

stuck i'm so sorry to hear that. I'm glad you have answers now. I know you may not be ready to hear this, but in case - your situation was mine last month and i went on to fall pregnant straight away before my next period. Just in case that s what you want to do, they're no harm in it.

stuckinny ahhh the US i see. And crikey that is crazy expensive considering you have health care. It does seem like a bonkers system over there - I'm so glad for the NHS anyway but when i think about the money...well...its mad how much it costs you. and yes do get our advice if you want, that's what we are here for!

Stuckinstressville · 31/03/2017 13:02

Nocats - I know - just two mc in 3 months ( had one at xmas @10wks) is a bugger on the old mood.
Good luck! Will swing by and see how you are all getting on !

EachPeachPearPlum87 · 31/03/2017 13:08

Thought I'd join! 6+4 today, EDD 24th November. This will be number 2, I have a 15 month old as well. Keeping fingers crossed everything will be ok!

EachPeachPearPlum87 · 31/03/2017 13:10

stuck I'm sorry to read your news, I hope you're doing ok. Like Nocats I had two MCs before my son - it's rough, but hang on in there.

stuckinny · 31/03/2017 14:22

Stuck I'm so sorry. Sending lots of hugs to you.

stuckinny · 31/03/2017 14:24

NoCats it really does make you appreciate the NHS. In all honesty, it will be a huge factor when I decide to move back to the UK. I know people complain about the NHS but often the service I receive here is no better, worse at times I think. It really should be cherished and funded.

NoCatsHere · 31/03/2017 14:48

Ahh i see stuck i'm so sorry thats rough to have had 2 in 3 months. Wishing you all the luck for your next pregnancy. Hope to see you on here soon. Hugs.

stuckinny indeed people do complain about the nhs, but considering what it does and how many people it treats its incredible. Its the largest employer in europe so no wonder sometimes things go wrong or you deal with someone duff - that can't be helped. I'm always grateful my healthcare is free - its amazing.

TeaAndPjs · 31/03/2017 15:24

So sorry stuck Flowers

We get carbon test here too, normally done around 8 weeks at booking app

stuckinny · 31/03/2017 18:02

So, I have the opportunity to have some genetic testing on myself (not the baby) and am wondering if you were in my shoes would you do it?

It tests for cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy and fragile x syndrome and is a simple blood test, so not invasive.

To give some back ground: I'm almost 40, have rarely been sick and have no family medical history of any thing. In addition I have one very healthy DS (different father).

The out of pocket cost for the test is $200.

Would you have it done?

butterybollocks · 31/03/2017 18:43

Stuckinny, is this nipt/nipd or are they testing you for genetic carrier status? If the latter, it's only going to give you half the picture, your partner would need testing too.

They are all rare conditions so most people wouldn't have a known family history or know the relevant genes are in the family.

It's a tricky one and if I were you I'd want to be clear exactly what they are testing for, to what extent (eg for cf there are 2000 genetic mutations, tests often look for the most common 50), what support and information you'll get to explain the results and also who will own/have access to your genetic data - I'm a bit cynical about who owns some of the big private genetic testing companies.

Not sure how proven and evidence based Nipd is for these conditions, my understanding was that techniques are still being honed.

stuckinny · 31/03/2017 20:00

They are testing for carrier status. If I come back positive then DP would be tested (probably at another $200!!)

All testing here is done by private companies so whether I like it or not I have to put up with it. It's actually the same company that has the contract with my Drs to do the harmony testing.

I work in the medical industry and am more than aware of the nonsense that goes on here with deals and contracts etc.

I'm of the opinion not to get it done. As you say, they are rare conditions. Although saying that exh has haemochromotosis which makes DC a probable carrier.

I think if I was in my 20s and going to have a bunch more kids I would be more likely to consider it but given that this is probably my last I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Zampa · 31/03/2017 20:31

I have to confess that I'd take every test going!

However, we did undertake the Harmony test with DD and she ended up with completely different issues that no test would pick up.

Forewarned is forearmed IMO.

Mummyosborne1983 · 31/03/2017 20:47

@stuckinstressville - I'm so sorry. I've certainly been there before and know how difficult it is! I'm glad you've got people and cats!! around for cuddles 😘

vitalite · 31/03/2017 22:12

Hi folks. I'm on the other November thread too, provisionally due Nov 3rd. Maybe the November threads could be merged going forward?..... seems mad to have 2. We already have a Facebook group set up for anyone who might be interested in joining that too, albeit I appreciate most don't like to join a fb group until the 12 week mark, but bear it in mind when you reach that stage 😀 it's not just for those who are due in early November, promise 😁

Zampa · 31/03/2017 22:27

Hi Vitalite. I think that people can join both threads if they want to but think a few of us prefer the smaller group by splitting the month into 2. More intimate!

Just a reminder, update your stats here, if you'd like to, especially newcomers.

Mummyosborne1983 · 31/03/2017 22:28

@vitalite I agree we should merge - I don't understand why we are separate, never experienced this with my other 2 groups.
Was there a confusion with the title or something?

Mummyagainmaybe · 31/03/2017 22:45

So sorry Stuck, hope cuddles are helping a bit x

vitalite · 31/03/2017 23:11

@Mummyo yes I think that's what's happened, the first thread had "early November" in the title and folks have taken it at its word 😂 tbh I prefer a fb group as I find mn threads very difficult to keep up with so was more concerned that the split here will also affect reduced migration over to that (for those that are into fb anyway). Obvs everybody is entitled to join as many or as little groups as they want so just thought I'd tout our fb wares here 😂
