We all seem to be having a tough time of it in one way or another so this seemed quite appropriate somehow!

Octopussy - Encouraging story, thank you. My C-section came about because the MW missed an anterior lip on the cervix, thought I was fully dilated when I was in fact 9.5, she had me pushing and then to cut a long story short, the baby got distressed so I had the C-section, by which time DS was flat, having swallowed meconium (sp??) and got tangled in his cord.

I wasn't traumatized by the section but don't want another if I can avoid it as DS is very clingy in both a physical and a psychological sense, and I think the transition (from one child to two) will be easier if I've had a vaginal birth.

But my bossy MW is very gung-ho about me staying at home as long as poss (and is prepared to go into hospital with me, if she can), whereas I know the hospital likes VBAC candidates to go in at an early stage. It's all very confusing, and I'm scared of putting the baby at risk. That said, we do live just a five minute drive from the hospital, which has got to be a good thing.

I wish it could be simple!!

Hoping WO is doing well, and that her bean is nice and strong, merely laid back

Pesha · 07/03/2007 21:27

LOL at spring onion! Definitely got to be a thread title at some point!!

Maveta - forgot about the big nips league table, i think i was going to add my measurements but it was always too cold! Fairly sure ive got you all beat hands down anyway

Bugger forgotten everything else. Have really bad heartburn but cant be arsed to go upstairs for gaviscon or even into the kitchen for rennies! Over did it abit today with lawn mowing i think and hip was absolutely killing after bending down poo picking. Cant remember if i said but last time i saw someone at hospital i said about my hips and pelvis aching and they said as id been ok in previous 2 pgs it was unlikely to be spd, prob just pressure from sleeping on my hips (how the hell else am i meant to sleep?!) and general pg stuff Have appointment at hospital again tomorrow morning so will say about it again as seems to be getting worse. I live on quite a steep hill and walking up it on school run every day is starting to get increasingly difficult. And looking forward to finding out if this baby is as engaged as he feels. Thats also making walking difficult as he feels like hes wedged right down into my pelvis, although not all the time so probably wont be tomorrow!!

octopussyintummy · 07/03/2007 21:29

Bugmum - you should go in when you feel ready to go - I decided that when needed pain relief was probably best and when contractions got closer than 3 minutes - whichever came first! Same view this time really - if you need pain relief ... then pain relief it is! I am much better prepared this time for early labour and have tens, ball and my breathing/visualisation etc - will also get in bath which didn;t occur to me last time.

Had some good news today at midwife appointment - I was told that they would kick me out after 1 night as 3rd timer and was worried about bf - she said could stay in if was struggling - one less thing to worry about!

SOSPL - hope you have a good nights sleep

octopussyintummy · 07/03/2007 21:33

Pesha - I have spd and the pain is in my hips and legs - can't really walk anywhere - def not up a hill My midwife says it could get worse over the next few weeks as baby engages and wedges his head into it! It has been worse recently - he is now 2/5 engaged so still has quite a way to drop - ouch . You should mention it anyway as could affect your birth positions etc and they may give you a support belt. I rarely wear mine now - find it doesn't really help and better just to rest - no way could or would do poo picking YAK YAK YAK!

WestCountryLass · 07/03/2007 21:38

Hope everything is OK with WO.

Pesha · 07/03/2007 21:46

When i was in labour with dd i had contractions for 2 nights running then had been having them all day on the sunday, by 11ish they were still 15 mins apart but VERY painful (she was back to back) so went into hospital and as soon as i got in there they speeded up and were every 4 or 5 mins, think i must have just relaxed or something. her heartbeat was also dipping with contractions so they had me on the bed hooked up to monitors from then on which was much more painful, ended up having epidural which didnt work properly (Anaesthatist (sp) poking my leg - can you feel that? Me - yes. Anaesthatist - are you sure? Me - YES. Anaesthatist - i dont think she can. And leaves it at that ) but i didnt have to have c section and managed to push her out myself with only a small tear which, after lengthy discussion, they decided didnt even need stitches.

Not that anyone asked for my birth story but seemed vaguely relevant with the going in for pain relief and heart beat dipping!

Pesha · 07/03/2007 21:51

Octopussy - it is yak, have really gone off my dog this pg what with that and him pulling on walks, always sitting right behind me when im washing up/cooking so i step back and nearly fall over him and the smell of him regularly making me puke. But the kids love him. Hopefully i will again one day!
My pain is in hips sort of right in the middle at either side, especially right side, and in groin and at top of thighs. Like the day after going horse riding for first time in years only ive not been riding anything!!

octopussyintummy · 07/03/2007 21:53

Not sure whether its being back to back and they struggle to get out and it dips or the epidural makes it dip???

octopussyintummy · 07/03/2007 21:54

Yes - thats where my pain is too - also my hips seem to seize up when sat in same position for a while - then struggle to get up and walking hurts.

Pesha · 07/03/2007 21:56

Meant to say i also find i really stiffen up when i sit down, when i get up the first few steps can be agony.

Im not really sure it cotuld just be that this is my 3rd so everything is looser and weaker but does seem abit extreme and has been bad for months. But then not as bad as some of you who def do have spd. The hill is hard work but i can still do it.

Pesha · 07/03/2007 21:59

X posts but

Will definitely mention it then to dr/consultant/mw/whoever i get to see tomorrow.

octopussyintummy · 07/03/2007 22:02

Pesha - its called pelvic girdle pain - new name for spd really as covers the hips and thighs aswell.

Off to bed now it has been a weird day as feeling less stressed about school and managed to think about baby - but a friend died a year today and have tried not to get too upset but is in back of mind all day - think will read a bit so can settle my mind

DH working from home tomorrow so probably won't get online!

Big hugs to WO staying in xoxoxoxoxox

Ellieump · 08/03/2007 00:17

Hi everyone,
Just a quick post as I haven't had time to catch up from the last few days.
Has anyone heard from weeonion yet? Hope she's OK.
Hope the rest of you are well, I'll try to catch up this afternoon xx

Whendoobygotstuckupthechimney · 08/03/2007 08:28

Hope you all have a lovely day

Whendoobygotstuckupthechimney · 08/03/2007 08:30

Also it is lovely here this morning.Ds bunking off school today and tomorrow. We are hoping to return to homeschooling yaaaah!

IsabellyMoi · 08/03/2007 09:10

Hope WO is okay - thanks very much for the update Dooby.

Liked the reference to 'spring onion'....agree that it should be included in a thread title at some point

Pesha - laughed out loud at your reference to hip pain and someone telling you it was from sleeping on your hips How else are you supposed to sleep?!!!

1B3 - thanks for your kind comment the other day about my baby not moving and scaring us on the weekend. Since then, he/she has (thankfully) been over-compensating for the inactivity by jumping all over the place.

Have a great day everyone - it is lovely and sunny here and I hope to get out for a good walk. Went swimming yesterday and it was WONDERFUL.

So glad for our supportive group and that we can feel free to b/f or formula feed or do anything else without feeling judged.

mmk · 08/03/2007 09:32

Hello all, good morning. Hope everyone is well, and got some sleep last night.

Yes, Isabelly, totally agree how nice it is that people can say exactly what they feel without anyone having a go! Re bf/bottle etc. I'm glad everyone can talk freely about it, this really is a nice group.

DH loves the word norks, and has suggested all sorts of nork displays, so I fetched him a slap on his bonce. He went off to work sniggering, the thougth of norks will keep him entertained all day.

I love the tips and real facts about bf, eg from Pesha, re the milky grin, Oh, I can just see it. Please ladies, whether bf or bottle, please continue to share your experiences-invaluable for first time mums, and not first time mums too, I'm sure.

When I had DS, advice was to warm milk in a bottle warmer in the middle of the night- what kind of STOOPID DUMBARSE advice is that? DS is awake at 3am, screaming for a feed, and there we are plugging in the warmer, which then takes 15 mins to heat up milk, by then he is hysterical, milk is too hot, have to cool it etc etc.
Another mum said fill bottles with boiled water, then put formula in when baby wakes. The water was usually room temperature, the formula dissolved, the baby was fed, and we were all back in bed in 18 mins...as opposed to two hours later!

I'm at work, with absolutely nothing to do agan today, so I've brought my book on how to cope with introducing second child to first.

It's been so reassuring to find other people have shared my thoughts on extended bf. I never dared mention it to anyone before!

Emmymummy · 08/03/2007 09:59

Morning mmk. At work too, have loads to do but struggling to get going today. Feeling quite light headed and woosey, don't think I'm going to last the day without falling asleep onto my laptop. Lovely person at work has just given me a box of chocolates, which are obviously helping keep me awake, can't stop eating them! Rib pain is getting worse too (like SOSPL & Maveta) - feels like i've been cut all the way round where my bra strap sits. Maybe should just scare everyone by going bra-less?! No, maybe not.

claricebean · 08/03/2007 10:02

Morning girls, hope you're all doing ok.

I'm definitely getting less sleep now as I have to turn over every hour and a half and my poor hips / buttocks feel as though they've had an elephant lying on them (which is not too far from the truth I guess). DH still poorly but at least we have him here. My MIL arrives in 19 days. I can't wait. She's 70 but a complete workhorse and absolutely dotes on her grandchildren, so she will be a big help. She's here for a week and then my mum and cousin arrive .

I have 3 weeks and 6 days to go!!!! Theoretically, of course. So really should get that hospital bag packed. Have been getting a lot of period type cramping in legs and back lately, which has started reminding me of contractions. How weird to be thinking ominously of the pain involved and yet still be excited about it starting soon!!

Anyone else been reading the March postnatal thread. So excited that it'll be our turn next.

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 08/03/2007 10:31

Morning all, hope everyone is well. It is gorgeous here again today.

Mmk, what is the book that you are reading called - it sunds interesting and something I may need to invest in before number 2 arrives.

Nothing to report here. B at pre school, so need to haul my arse out of this chair and attempt to do some housework! Managed to sit here for half an hour with a mocha and 2 pieces of toast and honey! yummy!

See you all later.

Whendoobygotstuckupthechimney · 08/03/2007 10:42

Weeonion is on her way home in a cab.She has to have lots of rest and record the baby's kicks and go back to the hospital on Monday.I said i would let nyou lot know. What a relief that she is being monitored
Have a lovely day ladies.

flumppootle · 08/03/2007 10:44

Moring all

Hope is all well weeonion and that your tummy is better too Liath.

Loveing the bf talk, had totally forgotten the whole milk firing/smelling like sour cream thing. I always remember that they used to leak when I filled the bath up. Would lean over bath to stir the water and suddenly milk everywhere!
Really like the idea of those Lilypaz Emmymummy, there was always a trail of mushy breast pads behind me - could never figure out how they fell out all the time so that might be a good solution, thankyou for the link.

Mmk although I do believe that bf/bottle feeding is a very personal choice I am with you on the not feeling comfortable with the extended bf. I would never comment in real life but totally understand.
I dont know anyone else who has bf and found it hard with my three. My biggest support was dh who was a star. He was able to latch on dd1 for the first few weeks until me and dd learned for ourselves, we wouldn't have continued to bf without his help.
My biggest regret is that I isolated myself with dd1 because I wasn't comfortable feeding in mother and baby groups when all the other mothers were bottle feeding. I also refused to bf in a toilet so tended only to go out for shoter periods of time.
Lesson has been learned and I did become more confident with time, the idea (so sorry that I cant remember who said it) of knowing good mother and baby rooms to feed before you venture out is a fantastic one.

Pesha, dd2 was a nork revealer aswell, will never forget her showing my norks to a bunch of teenage boys at castle commbe race track!! It made their day . Now know to put the pram parasol onto the chair I am feeding in to maintain some privacy!

Someone else was asking about arnica, dooby I think. I have had another look on the internet for the dose. It's very hard to find a standard dose due to homeopathic remedies not being regulated in the same way as medicines but most sites suggest that you can start taking it 24 hrs prior to surgery (or birth) and then 2 every two hours for 24 hours only, followed by one/two every four hours for a maximum of up to one week. My advice would be to find a source that you trust and go with that information.

OOggs and 1b3, well done on holding onto those twins a bit longer. I cant even begin to imagine how uncomfortable you are now

Maveta and SOSPL that rib pain sounds hideous.

Went to see mw yesterday and we are finally head down but still back to back. All else was well, checking blood for the itching here too. Have had heat rash across my chest for months so not too worried.
Have a lovely sunny day all

runnyhabbit · 08/03/2007 10:49

Good Morning All

The sun is shining, the birds are singing, ds is in nursery don't worry, I'm not going to burst into song (wouldn't wish that on anyone)

Octopussy - Interesting what your mw said about pain getting worse as babys head engages. The physio told me the opposite! She said that as the babys head engages, it takes up the "play" in the pelvis, and so the pain eases - which is what has happened to me! Saw her this morning, and she said that babys head must be engaged as I'm in very little pain (so little, that I don't have to see her for 11 wks - yay!)

Really enjoying this talk about bf. Am determined to do it this time round (detemined emoticon here)

Went shopping with mum yesterday. Mothercare have got their "buy 1 get 1 half price" offer on tops & bottoms. And my mum treated me to lovely jersey yoga style bottoms, which will be comfy to wear afterwards, and a top which I'm hoping I can bf in. Bless her, she told me I'm doing an important job, so I should be rewarded

Dh was away last night so had a lush nights sleep - and only got up twice for the toilet!

Will try and catch up properly later - the motivation to do housework has finally kicked in so going to make the most of it!

runnyhabbit · 08/03/2007 10:51

Good news about WO x
