Any tips and tricks on putting the tights on? I really struggled this morning as having a big belly does not help 🙁

RedBlu · 23/03/2017 08:06

I ended up being signed off for this week with SPD as it got to the point I couldn't walk and the doctor said I needed to rest. Also been prescribed some scary sound medication that contains morphine but only taking it when I really have to.

Doctor also said I need to seriously consider bringing my maternity leave forward as I was intending to go at 38 and he doesn't think it is going to happen.... wonderful

nursebickypegs · 23/03/2017 08:28

Morning ladies. Thinking of you all who are and work in London trying to make sense of it all.

@RasperryInAMelon oh my god you have had an awful morning! You can power through these 7 days!

@RedBlu I have Perths Disease, and SPD has been a killer. I was getting it as early as 20something weeks. What medication have you been given? I have codiene throughout the entire pregnancy & they have given me oramorph for when it was really bad, but I've only taken that once or twice.

teainbed · 23/03/2017 09:01

yellow were they constant or intermittent? It could have been BH or the baby moving or even sometimes your bowels if you're constipated or needing to go.

I've been induced x3 but early on they felt like regular BH and got stronger and longer in intensity after that.

Nurse15 · 23/03/2017 09:11

Westminster events so scary yesterday Sadhope everyone is safe! Can't begin to imagine being in the hospital nearby working or in labour when all that was going down outside, horrendous!!

I thought I was having a bad day yesterday - was coming home from my uni course on the motorway and a piece of fence post was lying in the fast lane and I was unable to avoid it and hit it at 65mph. 6 other cars hit it behind me so what chaos on the hard shoulder! Thankfully I had breakdown cover and the police and breakdown men where really helpful. My car came off best only needing a tyre and 3 of the other cars where presumed write offs. When I was in the tyre depot the news about Westminster came on so left feeling like my day was nothing in comparison!! But all the same I'm glad it's over!!

lullaby23 · 23/03/2017 09:14

Glad all London ladies are ok, sounds scary that you were so close esme hope you and raspberry have a calmer day all round.

jenny sorry to hear about the virus, no wonder you've been feeling so crappy. Hope you can rest up for a few days

yellow hope it's not the real thing yet, I know braxton hicks aren't meant to hurt but they can be uncomfortable, I feel like the breath has been knocked out of me sometimes.

DH has decided to 'work from home' today after getting in at 3am, have reminded him he's too old to stay out late drinking any more Hmm but he is at least entertaining DS whilst I get a few jobs done around the house.

I seem to have twinged my back so a bit hobbly at the moment and wondering whether I should make a physio appointment Sad

lullaby23 · 23/03/2017 09:15

Crikey nurse sorry to hear about your accident, that must have been scary I take it you are ok? Did you and bump get checked out? Flowers

EsmesBees · 23/03/2017 09:48

That must have been scary nurse glad you are ok. And the baby too.

Yellow my contractions felt like pressure all across my upper thighs. If you are at all worried that this might be 'it' then ring your hospital.

How many weeks are you now redblu? It must be bad if the consultant has signed you off and you need to take care of yourself so you are fit to look after your newborn.

Had a bit of a revelation earlier that I've been focussing on all the bad bits of pregnancy/work/toddler recently and not paying enough attention to how amazing it is that I'm growing a whole new little person inside of me, and what a fabulous child DD is and how I can't wait to see how she is with her new sister. Think I need to start looking on the bright side a bit more and do less moaning and snapping at DD/DH because I'm tired and stressed.

Brightsmoke · 23/03/2017 10:06

Sorry to hear about your accident Nurse, hope you and bump are ok Flowers

Does anyone have any suggestions for where to get a maternity swimming costume? I've been avoiding swimming since I quit it competitively, but DH got me a pregnancy spa day for my birthday, so gonna have to bite the bullet and get one!

savagehk · 23/03/2017 10:33

This is quite eye-opening re breastfeeding. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2016/sep/09/low-uk-breastfeeding-rates-down-to-social-pressures-over-routine-and-sleep

The chatbot here might be worth bookmarking too (although I have no idea what a chatbot is/does).
www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/mar/23/less-than-half-of-women-breastfeed-after-two-months-survey-finds
I think what really does help is having somewhere where you can post at all hours of day/night, I hope we will continue that once babies arrive (here or on FB) and can help support eachother Flowers

MrsJW15 · 23/03/2017 10:37

Yes I hope so too Savage. We've got our NCT breastfeeding class today and it does seem like there are lots of resources out there. I'm hugely impressed with some of my friends who have kept at it, and will feed anywhere. I hope I can do the same. It's awful to think that some people make it difficult for others to feed in public.

Bright I got a maternity tankini from JoJo which has done well for the last few months.

EsmesBees · 23/03/2017 10:56

bright I've just bought a maternity swimsuit from tesco for £16. It was the most reasonable price I could find.

EsmesBees · 23/03/2017 11:05

I hope we can continue to support each other too savage. I remember the relief I felt when one of my NCT group sent a 4am message saying 'its not easy this breastfeeding lark is it?' until then I had thought it was just me.

I honestly think rates would increase if it was just talked about and seen more. Bottle feeding is seen as the norm. Almost all of the 'theres a new baby coming' books I've looked at for DD feature bottle feeding.

1004Rise · 23/03/2017 11:13

Glad all you London ladies and family are ok, the randomness of yesterday feels more scary I think.

@WishIWasSleeping I have no idea how you do it either, maybe you're just used to less sleep than us first timers!! I am amused as you hoping for chicken pox though, things you never thought you'd say

@EsmesBees @coxsorangepippin Hope your commute wasn't too horrible

@yellowismyfavourite that's a bit "yikes" inducing, hopefully they were just BH or baby moving

@RasperryInAMelon You really need a weekend!! Only 7 days to go though I am jealous

@newbieho Tights I seem to manage ok with, it's socks that are starting to become a problem... I sit on the floor with the soles of my feet together and put them on like that because it bring my feet as close as possible.... knew I should have tried harder to keep the yoga up

@RedBlu That sounds painful are you any better after having the week off?

@nursebickypegs Glad you and bump are ok, not what you needed!

@savagehk Thanks for those links! Definitely need to keep up our support for each other after babies arrive, I don't know what I would have done without this group to moan at, ask questions of or generally just blether with
@Brightsmoke I bought this one (not much use as I see it's now out of stock) by I was able to buy it in my pre-pregnancy size which helped m.asos.com/emma-jane/emma-jane-maternity-swimsuit/prd/4595674?iid=4595674

jennymac31 · 23/03/2017 11:16

Am off to hydrotherapy session. Definitely needed given the last few days.

Glad to hear you ladies that are in London are OK. Had a panic that my brothers were caught up in it all (am originally from London) but I've heard back from them.

newbieho · 23/03/2017 11:27

@Brightsmoke I bought my swimsuit from Asda, it was cheap and will work well for those two months or so

1004Rise · 23/03/2017 11:29

On breastfeeding one of the useful things the health visitor said to us yesterday was if you get completely exhausted and need more than 2 hrs sleep in a row that someone else giving baby a bit of formula, out the pre-made carton because it's easier to prepare and don't waste a tub of powder, isn't going to do any harm. I hope my HV is like her, she did say fed is best at least 3 times Smile I think just having someone say it's ok if it doesn't always go perfectly goes a lot further to help people carry on.

1004Rise · 23/03/2017 11:32

You see that was so important I had to say it twice BlushConfused

KLane · 23/03/2017 12:57

Has anyone ever used/looked into the Snuza Hero? We don't want to use any of the mats (Angelcare or other) but this looks like a good alternative. Anyone have any insight or experience with them?

RasperryInAMelon · 23/03/2017 13:09

@newbieho I don't know if it's an option... but DH helps with mine now! I can't reach my toes!

@RedBlu I hope you feel better for some rest this week!

@nursebickypegs @lullaby23 god I bloody hope so!

@Nurse15 hope you're ok!

@lullaby23 perhaps some rest instead of doing jobs m'dear?

@EsmesBees I know what you mean. I had a full on day of being a miso yesterday but trying to have a revelation now of all of the lovely things to come.

@Brightsmoke Let me know if you find one! I really want to go swimming once I'm on leave!!

I really want to BF and will stick at it, but I think it'll only be for the first 9 months until I go back to work. I may still try to express if I can but for me, I don't think 2YO is realistic.

Feeding in public worries me as it's not something I've had to do of course, but we'll see how it goes.

@1004Rise you're telling me! DH has said that perhaps we'll be really lazy, open out the sofa bed and chill in the lounge all weekend watching movies.

RasperryInAMelon · 23/03/2017 13:10

@KLane out of interest - why not the angel Mat if you want a movement monitor?

OP posts:
KLane · 23/03/2017 13:26

@RasperryInAMelon Mainly because he'll be sleeping in a lot of different places- the pram carrycot, the Sleepyhead (which we'll be moving around the house as needed) and the Halo Bassinest at night (probably with the Sleepyhead inside it), so a diaper monitor would just be more portable Smile

savagehk · 23/03/2017 13:39

klane I'm sceptical. I don't think young babies are able to rouse themselves just by tummy vibrations.

lullaby23 · 23/03/2017 13:45

I think I got my polka dot tankini from ASOS but it was a couple of years ago.

savage such a shame that breastfeeding rates are so poor in the UK, just shows the lack of support and normalisation here when you consider other countries have shorter mat leave.

esme I bought the Pirate Pete book for DS and it shows bf. I think Princess Polly is the sister equivalent but not sure if you want to go down the 'girlie princess' road though, another can of worms. My New Baby does too. Thanks for whoever recommended There's a House Inside My Mummy, I got quite teary reading it to DS earlier 😢

Thanks raspberry am relaxing now.
