rise I love your maiden name as a middle name. I just don't think mine would flow, wish I'd had a better name (then again I would have kept it if that were the case!)

Am thinking of DH's name for a middle name as he's the only man I admire really (not naming the baby after any other male relatives Hmm) and it's a nice name.. but part of me thinks bloody hell the baby already has his surname Grin!

EsmesBees · 21/03/2017 08:48

I breastfed through the first few lots of jabs too. One of my main sadnesses about stopping at 10 months was that I was taking away a great source of comfort to her. It's a great parenting tool to be able to sort any problem by getting a boob out.

Badgerbird · 21/03/2017 08:55

Love Teddy Clark!
Funnily we have Dorothy, Pearl and Elliott in our close family :)

That's what we've done raspberry, (I really like Molly :) ) I just started calling bump Rosie out of the blue one day and now think if it suits her we may stick with it, or maybe as a middle name. We have another name we like too.

Ha ha bright just saw your post!! Smile

Sorry to hear about your tummy rise, is it painful?? I've heard it goes back to normal with exercise after so please try not to worry too much.

Hope you're resting jenny!!

savagehk · 21/03/2017 09:02

1004 I think that is actually quite common in pregnancy. I know it took my muscles a while to come back together. Ask for a physio referral post-natally and be very careful at first with not bending over too much (leaning forward to nappy change) and making sure you're well supported when you bf, etc. If NHS won't refer you look for a physio who specialises in post-natal exercises. You need to be careful afterwards re core exercises until the muscles come back together.

The maiden name as middle name is great, but would so not work in our case! Nor my mother's maiden name, or for that matter my MIL's maiden name. The poor child already has a surname which has an unusual feature and if we added in MIL's there'd be two Grin

peach if you don't tell anyone in advance they're probably less likely to comment. My mother did say (post birth) "x's are naughty" (she was a teacher for many years...). Ta for that....

lullaby23 · 21/03/2017 09:40

esme genuinely not sure how to efficiently comfort a small baby without boob! It is so handy.

lullaby23 · 21/03/2017 09:42

savage oh no the dreaded teacher comment! I can understand how they get a feel for a name and related behaviour but not very helpful if people judge before knowing the child. My mum (not a teacher) said oh there will be so many people in DS's class with the same name when he goes to school, she is probably right but meh I like the name.

KLane · 21/03/2017 09:45

Picking a boy's name has been a nightmare for DH and I. We must have gone through every name website and every baby name book, and we have one name that we agree on. JUST ONE. We're terrified of anyone having a negative reaction to it, as we have zero backup. God forbid we have another boy in the future- we'll have to give him the same name! Part of it's cultural as I'm American, and DH kept telling me that I was picking names that sound too American Hmm It's a short name though and I'd like to give him a more formal longer name on his birth certificate, but DH just wants the short name. So, that's still a debate at the moment (wondering if I raise it again after labour whether he'll just give in). We have agreed to give him my dad's name as the middle name though, which fortunately DH was wise enough to just agree from the start after a few tears from me.

savagehk · 21/03/2017 09:50

KLane I always think go for the longer one and call him by the shorter one. Suppose at least you've agreed on one name :D

MissMooMoo · 21/03/2017 09:53

We have chosen Felix for a boy.
No girls name we can agree on,possibly Rosa. Her middle name will be Joyce after DH's grandmother who raised him.
I like
Iris
Pearl
Olive (my grandma's name)
Alice
Penelope

DH has said no to all of those!

jennymac31 · 21/03/2017 10:09

Morning ladies

Am in bed resting but am starving so pretty sure am gonna have to get up soon.

Dh and I always knew that we were gonna name our dd after our mothers. It’s been a bit more tricky with baby boy as our favourite name is now quite popular (been in the top 10 for boys names for the last few years) plus we found out that my bil was intending to give that name to their first son (thanks to his parents suggesting it would be a great name not knowing that we already had that name picked out). My 2nd favourite name has also been in the top 10 for boys names in the last few years but I think it would go well with our dd's name. I don't mind dh's 2nd favourite name but I know that it would get shortened, which I'm not keen on. Was surprised to find out that dh has already been discussing names with his work colleagues and asked for there thoughts. I haven't dared done that in my office just in case someone might nick it (terrible I know!).

With regards to work, I'll probably go back full time but possibly change my hours depending on what school dd gets allocated (which will determine which nursery baby boy goes to). Already get childcare vouchers and will continue to get them until my pay goes down to smp.

savagehk · 21/03/2017 10:31

jenny are you also waiting to find out for Sept 17 admission?

Badgerbird · 21/03/2017 10:32

Ok whilst we're on names I must share this.... funniest thing I've read in ages!! So Figgy and Scar are obvs on the list (?) but I was surprised at Npeter (the N is silent) GrinGrinGrin
www.tatler.com/news/articles/december-2016/posh-baby-names-2017

Meant to ask... when/where is next meet up?

nursebickypegs · 21/03/2017 10:35

I use to do baby jab clinic and god, I would say my blessing and prayers extra hard that night for making all the babies cry! I use to tell the Mums to give calpol before the jabs, and lots of cuddles afterwards. DH jokes I won't cry as I have a stone cold heart when it comes to medical things and loved ones, I'm a horrible person I know!

I have a huge keloid scar from my BCG, it's the size of a 10p piece and raised up.

@Badgerbird all good names! Wink DH wanted something totally unusual, but I hate having an unusual name. I have to spell it out (along with surnames) everywhere I go, people often get it wrong and everyone knows who I am. I joke with DH that if you don't want to shout the name across Asda in an angry voice, then don't call your kid it!

jennymac31 · 21/03/2017 10:44

Savagehk - yes, less than a month before we find out but I'm not hopeful that we'll get any of the schools we had applied for. Even had a look at the local prep school that's a 5 mins walk from us in the event that we get allocated a crap school. Trying not to think about it but it's hard as I walk past our 1st choice school whenever I go to work, as it's opposite my office.

RasperryInAMelon · 21/03/2017 10:45

@lullaby23 that's more than I can do - I've never given blood because I'm too scared to. Its a ridiculous notion I know, but I think there's a reason there's this much blood in my body 🙈

@1004Rise ha! Our 'shortlist' is the same and sadly continues to get added to! We have a fairly foreign sounding surname (Burclaff) to contend with. We actually both really liked Charlotte and Emma as a name, but think it would sound odd with Cossyra Burclaff following on from such a simple name?

I hope my abs come back together after - don't get me wrong, they weren't anything amazing - but if I go to sit up in the bath now I get a doming / egg shape effect at my belly button now. 🥚

@Autumnsweater that's lovely about using your DHs name 😊

@KLane I love American names - I really like Peyton for a girl... DH just thinks Peyton Manning, whereas I think the cute little girl from the movie 'Game Plan'

@MissMooMoo Alice is lovely! So beautiful ☺ Felix sounds cute, yet mischievous (in a good way!)

@Badgerbird there's a load of us London girls meeting on Friday (24th) at Victoria station at 6pm if you fancy it - or anyone else for that matter!

OP posts:
KLane · 21/03/2017 10:59

@RasperryInAMelon I'm a massive Peyton Manning fan (lifelong Colts fan) so I'm all for that! I'd say in the US it is a far more feminine name (I never knew any males with the name other than PM), but they all spell it Payton.

@BadgerBird That list is brilliant. Although, David's a bit random among the Barclays and Quails? Maybe if I throw one of these at DH as a "serious" suggestion, he'll think he's compromising by giving me the longer name on the birth certificate Grin I'm thinking either Yak or Npeter (the 'N' is silent) might do the trick haha.

lullaby23 · 21/03/2017 11:23

badger ooh posh names I must read this article! I loved reading the too Telegraph announcement names too and seeing how it varies from the normal top names list.

raspberry I sympathise, I really had to do mind over matter and steel myself to manage blood doning. The lemon squash and mint club is well earned at the end! I've done it 10 times and it does get easier. I can't donate here due to CJD Peyton reminds me of One Tree Hill though!

jenny yes I agree about telling people names - half don't want them to take the piss and half don't want them to nick!

1004Rise · 21/03/2017 11:28

The maiden name as middle name both my DPs families have done for generations... I like to think they were early feminists Grin

@Autumnsweater lol at being miffed at baby potentially having your DH's dirt and second names Smile

@Badgerbird It's not sore, but it may explain the fizzing feeling I've been getting which is slightly different to heartburn.

@savagehk Yes I think it can be fixed with exercise, I just need to google these things with my 10am head on not my 4am head! Good tips about the bending over etc though. I have medical cover through work so I should be able to get a physio afterwards ok.

@RasperryInAMelon that's what I have, the egg shape... and what the midwife told me not to do... so even sitting up in the bath she said to turn on my side and push up with my arms which in our tiny bath is nigh on impossible (oh for a house with a proper bath) and to basically stop using my stomach muscles for anything Hmm

@Badgerbird Loving the tatler names, the silent 'N' is particularly awesome!!

1004Rise · 21/03/2017 11:29

Hmmmm the tagging in the app is helpful but it plays havoc with the bold setting Hmm

Rustler74 · 21/03/2017 11:34

@RasperryInAMelon is it in Costa again? I may try do that x
@Badgerbird let me know if you fancy going too.

teainbed · 21/03/2017 11:36

I went to a physio class postnatally for my tummy muscles. It was lovely, everyone brought their babies and they had tea and biscuits! There were physios that checked everyone individually and then showed you the exercises to do. You could go back if you wanted but mine seemed ok.

I have no idea on names. We both picked my DS and I picked DD1. DD2 was picked by DH and it's a lovely name but I'm still sure it's not right for her! DH has told me to pick this one but I think that's just passing the buck!

nursebickypegs · 21/03/2017 11:38

@lullaby23 @RasperryInAMelon that's where I know Peyton from! It's been bugging me all morning!

Is there anything more lovely than the sun shining and pegging out baby clothes on the line?!!

nursebickypegs · 21/03/2017 11:39

@Badgerbird NPETER?!? Oh my lord GrinGrin

MrsJW15 · 21/03/2017 11:50

Risethere was a post on RockMyFamily a few months ago on split rectus abdominus. Looks like it's totally manageable, as long as you do the right exercises afterwards. I do also get that doming thing I think. Must look into that.

Raspberry didn't realise there was another London meet this week, I'll join as well if I can?

I think we've now chosen boys and girls names but haven't told anyone, including family, so they can't say anything. Bit worried about the girl's name as it's so popular, but I think it really works for us!

RasperryInAMelon · 21/03/2017 11:50

@1004Rise same here - got a bollocking from the Physio yesterday for sitting up and DH helping me in the night rather than rolling onto my side 🙈

@Rustler74 Costa Coffee, Victoria Station indeed! Would be great to see some other new faces! I think there are 6 of us going at the moment ☺

@nursebickypegs... not having a garden, being locked in the office sweating your tits off!?... 😕🙄

Literally have no energy or care about work now which is so bad 🙈 I love my job, but I'm just physically and mentally knackered... seriously roll on next Friday! 😬
