Thanks Tea. So much to learn!! The wife of a pals brother runs a sling library (I've been told) so should probably get in touch with her and find out about options.

Nurse isn't broccoli high in iron? I know it's good for calcium as I'm lactose intolerant and have been munching away on it lately to try and up my calcium intake!

Peas glad the scan went well! Think I might follow your lead and ask for the omeprozole stuff everyone's raving about. Sick of acid and heartburn!!

Rise ta for the hat tip!

MrsJW I'll see what looks like as a drive from Chablis, ta!!

nursebickypegs · 15/03/2017 18:44

@Teaspoon74 ooohhh!!!!! I have some broccoli in the freezer. I'll have it tomorrow. I want to avoid a blood transfusion as much as possible, purely as I love donating blood!

teainbed · 15/03/2017 18:49

Dried apricots and dark chocolate are good for iron too.

Yes the dark or old towels are for us! Sorry it's a bit grim but I found I dripped blood everywhere after a bath or shower until I could get the pad back on and ruined several nice towels and bath mats in the process. Learnt my lesson! Only for the first 4-5 days though I think. Bleeding became more manageable after that.

PeachIcedT · 15/03/2017 18:59

Rustler when I had cramp it lasted a good 3-4 days where it felt like I’d torn something in my calf so I do think that’s normal. Though if the calf gets hot and swollen that’s a danger sign to definitely get checked out. I’ve not had cramp in a while though, maybe the bananas are helping.

It’s good to hear that the expectant Dads are swotting up on parenting Smile. DH is reading ‘The politically incorrect parenting book – 10 no-nonsense rules to stay sane and raise happy kids’ – so I don’t know what to make of that!

Teaspoon all this talk of wine is so difficult, I’d love a good bottle of red. Your France trips sound great! We bought a whole load of wine on our honeymoon with the intention to drink on our anniversary (in June) but I don’t really know the practicalities of us both having a half bottle with a newborn. Probably will be too exhausted to want any!

Rise how good that you got such a small group with the midwife (in mine was about 40 people!), sounds like you got a lot of answers from there. Strange how you were suddenly sick but good news you feel ok today.

Newbie snap I had 31 week appointment too today. It is so lovely to hear the heartbeat and the occasional thump into the doppler! Omeprazole is great it should sort out pregnancy heartburn very well. Baby is head down with ‘lots of legs’ in my ribs according to midwife, who then reassured me I’m not carrying an octopus!

Good news on your growth scan peas and hope you can get that omeprazole too.

Rise both drugs reduce stomach acid production so essentially do that same thing but they work at slightly different receptors to do so. Both should be effective for reflux but omeprazole is likely to be more effective. You can buy both over the counter though possibly you could be refused a sale during pregnancy.

Nurse I’m trying to up my iron intake too (although currently on iron supplementation) and it’s tricky as I only eat fish (no other meat) – I’m trying to eat plenty of green veg. I hear dandelion leaves are very high in iron (more than spinach) but I am not suggesting raiding the outdoors for supplies!

nursebickypegs · 15/03/2017 19:06

Horrible to talk about but when I had my MC last year, dark towels were my saviour as well as men's jersey boxers. Id put my pants on underneath. I've got a few pairs for afterwards, so I don't "leak" on the sofa or in the car. Do I need to buy special maternity pads or can I use my usual huge Always pads?

@PeachIcedT I'm normally a fish person too but this pregnancy has got me loving on bacon and chicken. I'll up the green veggies, and I've got some spinach for smoothies too.

I think I'm going to have an early night; DH is playing poker with his brothers and I can't stand the lad banter!

EsmesBees · 15/03/2017 19:23

Buy the special maternity pads nurse. This probably varies, but it was much, much heavier than a period for me. But it didn't last long and i switched to normal pads pretty quickly. I also just used normal towels, but getting a black one is a good idea.

Raspberry you look amazing on your bike. So relaxed!

nursebickypegs · 15/03/2017 19:28

Thank you @EsmesBees! I have some already but I was worried I was being conned! 😂

peasandquiet · 15/03/2017 20:09

The baby clothes are out the loft! I gave a lot of newborn and 0-3 away it turns out, I have kept the bits I really loved tho so that's good. Adding a few neutrals to a JL basket to get us through the first few weeks and will get some white vests from Tesco as have always found them good value. Then will just wait and see if new baby gets as many gifts as my first did in which case we won't need to buy anything anyway!
Rasberry you make a beauty of a preggers cyclist, not sure I would be able to stay on at the moment!
Maternity pads all the way nurse, and waaaay more than you think you need. I was changing every hour or two for first 3-5 days.

1004Rise · 15/03/2017 20:25

Dark towels, good tip. Usually Tesco do decent ones in many different colours so will have a look!

40?!? Peach wow, they only ever invite 6 mums to ours so at most it'd be 12 people. Smile I can see why NCT classes would be so popular if the NHS ones are that packed!

Well done for the loft visit peas!

Rasperry* nice wheels Grin

Pharmacist will only give me Gaviscon over the counter, so will maybe see if I could get a doctor's appointment for opramazol... when they gave me the ranitidine he did say if it stopped being as effective then there were other things to try.

nursebickypegs · 15/03/2017 20:36

@1004Rise this is the stuff you can buy! In my Asda you can take it off the shelf, but maybe see if the GP will prescribe first!

WishIWasSleeping · 15/03/2017 21:21

Oh my stupid phone just deleted my whole post AngryAngry

WishIWasSleeping · 15/03/2017 21:25

Nurse - check out breakfast cereals for those with added iron - I used to eat a couple of bowls in the evening with DD if I felt too lazy tired to cook!
Also beans - like Heinz, and broccoli as previously said.
I also found iron tablets in boots last time, with vit c to help absorption- silver tub, about £2. I haven't looked this time though. I do know that drinking tea will lessen the absorption rate of iron though. (Not sure why) and apparently these have 17mg of iron in (they were free) haven't tried them!

WishIWasSleeping · 15/03/2017 21:26

Stupidest phone ever tonight!

Thanks @WishIWasSleeping! Any excuse for more cereal I think!

Teaspoon74 · 15/03/2017 22:33

Excited!! Had new windows put in yesterday so this eve we finally cracked on with the nursery. Still stuff to get, but pleased so far!

MrsJW15 · 15/03/2017 23:20

Looks great Teaspoon!

nursebickypegs · 16/03/2017 04:17

@Teaspoon74 love your bedroom furniture! It's so nice! Where is it from?

This is our nursery when I finished it the other week. I've added another Billy Bookcase in since, and put the draws underneath the window so we have the radiator free. My Mum has bought wooden letters spelling out his name which are so precious!! I'm desperate for a nursing chair, so I'm back to searching eBay/gumtree/selling the cats in search of one. Spot DH's prep machine, which I am convinced we won't use once I get my head around BF.

Woke up feeling stupidly tearful and panicked that I can't be a Mum, and it always seems to happen when Bub is kicking lots. No clue why I feel like this and it's really consuming me now. During the day I feel great but night time I worry endlessly and end up in tears.

Usually I talk to my Mum about this; she's not very good at the moment as it's the anniversary of her Mum's death on the 23rd. Mums birthday is the 20th, and Mother's Day is the 26th... so as you can imagine she's very sad at the moment and there is nothing I can do.Sad

Pity party over. Pram is coming today, is it weird if I take it out for a test drive around the park... Wink

Love the nurseries nurse and teaspoon, they both look lovely. I'll have to upload a picture of mine once we've assembled the furniture.

Hope you're ok nurse, I think a lot of us are having similar feelings at the moment. I know I am! I think the fact that the due dates are getting close is quite nerve wracking and it's normal to be having these worries Flowers

I don't know what I'm doing up at this time. Woke up with a horrible leg cramp so painful I nearly cried. How on earth I'll deal with contractions if that's my reaction to a leg cramp... Hmm then I had to go to the loo, came back and DH was snoring his head off so just got up. Think I'll be tired later!

Rustler74 · 16/03/2017 08:46

Loving the nurseries! Have you gone for cotbeds or cots? I think we still have time to buy a bed for baby as it will be in our room anyway. If we buy a cot then we can have it in our room in the cot then move it out when ready (and when we have broken down the double bed in the spare room) as it would fit through the door. A cot bed wouldn't fit through either door.
Don't know what to do but I guess time will tell.
Off to community midwife in a moment as I was told at my rhesus injection yesterday that I 'missed' an appointment that should have been made for week 28. But I had growth scan and then also endocrinologist and obstetrician so I didn't see the point to see a midwife in the same week. Also they are different teams. So I'll try arrange the midwife in between 2 growth scans for the last few weeks. 30 weeks tomorrow Shock where has the time gone??? Gonna look at our diaries for the next few weekends to try and fill it in with pleasant stuff for us 2 before our sprout arrives! Have a lovely day everyone! I'll try post another bump pic on later x

Nurse15 · 16/03/2017 08:49

Hi everyone! Not been around in a while as work has been crazy and I'm a month off finishing my uni course so busy busy! Hope everyone is well! Was over posting a bump shot in the thread last night, so cool to see everyone's bumps!

Lying here wondering what odd feeling I was experiencing while drinking my coffee and realised it was hiccups!! I was worrying yesterday as I hadn't felt her having hiccups yet! All pleased Smile

teainbed · 16/03/2017 08:58

Mine had hiccups when the midwife was trying to listen in with the Sonicaid the other day! So funny!

Forgot to mention yesterday in my sling collection is also a Babasling. Not much use for newborns but if you end up with a Velcro baby then they're great for getting stuff done round the house when they're bigger.

Brightsmoke · 16/03/2017 09:06

Love the nursery pics Teaspoon. Cant see yours on the desktop for some reason Nurse, so will look later on the app :)

I slept awfully last night, and as a result have the fan on full speed trying to keep me awake at work.

Hope everyone who's been feeling rough the last few days is feeling better today :)

nursebickypegs · 16/03/2017 09:18

Definitely a bad day today. I just texted my mum to see if she can talk and got told no, and DH is having a huge baby shower at work which has been unorganised by his team. Feeling definitely unloved, especially as my work haven't emailed me back about annual leave (hello unison, again!) & some of the team have deleted me off their FBs/kicked me out of group chats.

Sad I'm just having a little sob and at least the cats love me!

savagehk · 16/03/2017 09:38

rustler we went co-sleeper cot (small) to 'normal' cot set up as co-sleeper (not that he slept in it, it was more to stop him rolling out!) straight to single bed. No issues. Only problem is if the single is pretty high, in which case you probably also need a bed guard or use the 'pool noodle' trick.

BouncingBlueberry · 16/03/2017 10:13

Feeling a bit nervous here today. Got my first hydrotherapy session this afternoon for my SPD. I've seen the pool etc but just nervous about the actual class. I'm hoping for it to help my hips a bit, they've been so sore these last few days.
