Hi everyone. I'm 5w5d and currently a size 20. When we decided to start trying I expected it to take at least 6 months....we fell pregnant straight away - first time we tried. Hubby is now congratulating his 'super sperm' on a daily basis (I had nothing to do with it obvs!😂

I've tried to find a thread for plus size pregnancies and can't find one so thought I'd start one up

I really hope I get a nice bump and don't just look and feel fatter x

I had anterior placenta last time and didn't feel much at all until 26 weeks. You will feel more obvious movements soon.

This time my placenta is at the back and I've felt movements from 12 weeks!

PrtyPsn · 02/04/2017 11:17

teaspoon I'm convinced it's not possible to tell between hands and feet! Some 'kicks' are lighter, others make my belly shake but how does that tell me if its hand or foot? What if he's got a really strong punch? Grin FX'd your little one gets its acrobatics on!
Looking at my notes, 24 week check says '?C' so looks like midwife wasn't even too sure... that part hasn't been filled in for my last 2 checks and trey haven't mentioned it :/
peace I started feeling swishes and turns around 19 weeks, about 21 for kicks/punches and they've always been pretty strong in general, just frustrating that I can't seem to feel a head or bum anywhere!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 02/04/2017 11:33

Oh don't worry, even midwives struggle to tell between head and bottom!

PrtyPsn · 02/04/2017 12:12

Seems so!! I've got a scan at 31 weeks so will see then but it just seems like too long to wait! Git it stuck in my head that he's transverse Confused

HabbyHadno · 05/04/2017 10:36

Ok, so I had my docs appt and she just wanted to go through the consultant's letter and check that I was taking the Vitamin D and Aspirin, which I'm not - ha!

She also refused to prescribe me any more medication for heartburn - boo.

Cagliostro · 05/04/2017 10:59

Hi, mind if I join you?
I got a (completely unplanned) BFP recently but not sure how far along I am, currently waiting for a dating scan. May be as much as 12 weeks already.

I'm about a 20, weigh 19st. I was overweight when I had my first two DCs (now 7 and 9) but much much worse this time :( I also have a chronic illness so can't exercise much either.

Thankfully I had decided to cut right back on Pepsi etc at new year, I no longer buy it in shops or keep any at home and only have one if we are out for a meal. I know that's helped, I'm not tracking weight loss or anything but I feel slightly less fat and no longer look 9 months pregnant :o

Have been feeling super sick for a couple of months now (not vomiting luckily) and not eating as much, even when I find something that I can happily eat I can't manage a full meal.

HabbyHadno · 05/04/2017 11:17

Hi Cagliostro

How exciting! Can't wait to see how far along you are, it'll fly by if you've skipped the first 12 weeks already!

Cagliostro · 05/04/2017 11:36

Thanks! Am just feeling impatient as the midwife really wants me scanned ASAP and now I have no idea how long it'll take!

Can't deny I'll be quite pleased if I'm further along a side then hopefully the nausea will ease up soon :o

Teaspoon74 · 05/04/2017 15:23

Welcome Cagliostro! Good luck with the nausea! Mine didn't start until 12 but then persisted. Currently at 34+2 and hoping against hope that the spew will stop when bubs appears!

Thanks PrtyPsn - scan today (in an hour) so fingers crossed she's flipped. Was still breach at my MW appt last week tho...

Heartburn is getting worse and worse atm. Getting through 1/3 packet of antacids per night and sipping water through the day .... about 4litres on av. not enjoying this at all!

Cagliostro · 05/04/2017 15:28

Ohhh the heartburn is horrible. Sympathies!

Just got my booking appt, on Monday. This is all getting very real! 😱

I'm finding it really hard to drink water at the moment as it tastes 'wrong' (love water normally) even my usual favourite bottled stuff. Just got some squash which isn't ideal due to sweeteners etc. Better than drinking nothing though.

PrtyPsn · 05/04/2017 18:50

Habby what grounds did she give for refusing heartburn meds? Seems harsh!
tea how did the scan go?
Hi Caglio so excited for you! Can't wait to hear what Monday brings!

HabbyHadno · 05/04/2017 21:14

She looked up Ranitidine, which I've been taking, in her medical book and it said to prescribe if the benefits outweighed the risk. Then she looked at Omeprazole, which said 'no known issues when prescribed in pregnancy' but she said it was almost the same as another heartburn drug which said 'do not prescribe' so she said she wasn't happy to prescribe the Omeprazole either.

MrsB12345 · 05/04/2017 21:57

Hi ladies

I had my first midwife app on Monday. Scan booked for end of April. Midwife said I will get extra scans as I'm overweight but am secretly pleased with that so i get to see 'pebble' more x

Teaspoon74 · 05/04/2017 22:24

Woo hoo!! So today was my 34wk scan and after MW confirming still breach last week I was all set for the sonographer to confirm that today.... but she's flipped!

Explains the fanny pain (sorry!) - which seems to dip and on the basis of my NCT class I'm thinking might be engagement? Also had the nice scan lady check the ribs below my left boob and sure enough, two little feet happily kicking the crap out of my ribcage. Grin

MrsB I'm 42yo and 43BMI so have had extra scans and been consultant led. TBH it's been super nice to have that extra reassurance! Congrats!!

PrtyPsn · 06/04/2017 06:48

tea woo hoo!!! Three cheers for the little acrobat!!
MrsB that's exactly how I felt about extra scans - especially because it means I can take different family member & friends each time to stop then arguing!
In other news, I saw a midwife I know casually yesterday - told her my transverse worry and she said not to panic! In our hospital they don't do anything about it until 36 weeks (a few towns over its 38 weeks!!)

Cagliostro · 06/04/2017 10:56

Aw that's brill that baby's head down now! Yay!

I am feeling like the nausea may be easing up a little. Or I'm possibly just managing it better now. Odd thing that helps - chunks of fresh coconut!

I'm worried about GD - I had the test in my second pregnancy (wasn't eligible in my first as I weighed less although was still overweight). It was clear. But then DS was born - admittedly 11 days late, but... 11lbs 14oz!!! He also had low blood sugar. The doctor said I may have developed GD after the test.

So I have no idea how to check that this time - I wonder if they'd give me a test later on as well? I mean, I was eating complete crap last time, TBH I was complacent after a healthy first baby and then with the exhaustion that came with pregnancy plus a toddler, I was just stuffing my face frankly. And of course I hope not to do that this time round. Certainly so far it's been easier to eat a little better, and I've done well breaking the habit of Pepsi etc since new year, but what about when the nausea eases and I am able to eat more...

Argh!!! Sorry for the rant. I am just so paranoid this time round. I think it's going to be one of the first things I mention to the MW on Monday - I'll just be upfront about it, this baby wasn't planned, and I am really worried because I'm so much bigger than before. And my health issues - since my first pregnancies I have developed chronic fatigue (also known as ME), fibromyalgia and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. So it's harder to exercise as it is. I even lost my job to it last year (I tutor now from home).

PrtyPsn · 06/04/2017 18:53

If it helps my midwife told me that it wasnt possible to develop GD after the point they test. I was convinced I would have it but my levels were normal. I asked how likely it was I could get it still and she said I would now - that's why they test past a certain gestation then it's just yes or no.

Cagliostro · 08/04/2017 08:11

Ah that's interesting thanks.

silkybear · 08/04/2017 16:31

On my second now 15wks, bmi slightly less this time so no gtt. Last time my midwife was obsessed with dangers of being overweight and when my gtt came back all normal she told me i was borderline and should do a gd diet. I called the hospital who did the test and they said i was totally normal and she was talking bollocks. Looking back i should have complained as she also told me my baby would be 11lb or more and high risk of stillbirth and she was 7lb 10 normal and healthy. Worry for nothing and treated like a problem even though despite my weight i was low risk no other factors at all and exercised regularly. I am so glad im under the radar this time by only a couple of bmi points. Didnt wear jeans for my weigh in this time!! :)

silkybear · 08/04/2017 16:39

I remember starting a thread about it under my old username at the time and getting flamed for not following a gd diet just in case ha ha ha

Cagliostro · 08/04/2017 17:02

Gosh that MW sounds quite formidable! I guess it's luck of the draw really, what views your MW holds.

I would be very surprised if I don't get short shrift for my weight this time as I am so much bigger and I am worried myself.

Good news, I got a letter saying that my scan has been moved forward - it's a week today! Yay!

Cagliostro · 08/04/2017 17:14

Ooh also can anyone recommend some light pregnancy exercises? Later on I'll get the davina pre/post birth DVD as I LOVED that, but I need to build up to it safely due to my other issues. I was thinking of finding YouTube yoga/Pilates kinda stuff. Will go swimming too when DH takes the kids (can't go on my own due to dizziness). Any suggestions would be welcome!

silkybear · 08/04/2017 17:57

Yep have a look at 10 minute solutions pregnancy pilates on youtube. Literally 10 mins but you can do a few in a row if you like. Most days i just do the 10 mins ha ha. I think there are 5 different videos. Also katie appleton yoga for pregnancy. When not pregnant i follow yoga with adrienne and she has some nice gentle ones that could be adapted to suit.

Kitsandkids · 08/04/2017 19:41

Hi ladies, I forgot I was on this thread!

I tested positive for GD but when I test at home my levels are within 'normal' though not as low as they want them to get so they wanted to put me on Metformin. I've had a 28 week growth scan and baby was exactly as it should be for its age so I'm not concerned.

I found the doctor and three other people in the room at my 'diabetes clinic' this week quite intimidating and patronising actually. I kind of think they're looking at me thinking 'she's a larger lady, she must be eating crap' when actually I'm not a lot of the time.

I have had a very easy pregnancy so far, long may it continue, and fingers crossed for an easy delivery!

I found out this week that men's XL Primark t shirts make great maternity t shirts as they're nice and long. Only £2.50 and loads of colours.

Chachaow · 08/04/2017 22:11

Hello, just wanted to say I had my first baby last July - I was a size 18 when I got pregnant and was very worried when they told me i was 'high risk' because of my weight. I ended up putting on three stone by the end yet didn't get high blood pressure or gestational diabetes and had a perfect, very speedy (5 hours from first twinge to baby arriving) water birth at home as planned. It couldn't have gone better. So wanted to say that just because you might be deemed high risk because of your weight, the actual risk increase is small and it certainly doesn't mean anything has to go wrong. Wishing you all the best!
