Hi everyone. I'm 5w5d and currently a size 20. When we decided to start trying I expected it to take at least 6 months....we fell pregnant straight away - first time we tried. Hubby is now congratulating his 'super sperm' on a daily basis (I had nothing to do with it obvs!😂

I've tried to find a thread for plus size pregnancies and can't find one so thought I'd start one up

I really hope I get a nice bump and don't just look and feel fatter x

I'm not 100% sure yet as haven't spoken to a dietician but it seems as though they treat it as full blown. So testing blood after each meal and a diet for gestational diabetes. I'm also very keen to avoid induction so will do whatever they say to keep levels right!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 26/03/2017 21:27

That's a shame but I'm glad you're positive about it. My mum has type 2 diabetes and tests her blood, bleurgh! I would rather not!

GreedyDuck · 27/03/2017 12:44

peace! Congratulations, I didn't know you were expecting again (I'm one of the Jingles).

I had my booking in yesterday and also got told my bmi was 43, but like you I am super short and also pretty active and sporty. I am v old too though, so I got a bit of a lecture about DVT.

Last time around my bmi was 39 and I was 40. Pregnancy was ok, apart from mild SPD and GD diagnosed at 28 weeks, but diet controlled. I didn't actually put on much weight whilst pregnant esp once I started eating low GI.

Terrified that it's going to be a lot tougher this time around.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 27/03/2017 13:01

Greedy WHO ARE YOU?? Give me a clue! Grin

GreedyDuck · 27/03/2017 13:25

Heh, I'm not one of the most prolific Jingles, and rarely post on fb anymore. Initials AS, b&w profile pic.

How is this pregnancy going for you? I am bricking it as I had a mmc at Christmas, but also at the thought of two...argh!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 27/03/2017 15:35

Greedy I'm not on FB, just Whatsapp. I know who you are, though Wink sorry to hear about the MMC, that's sad news. Congratulations for this one, though.

I've found this time really hard. I was laid up for weeks at around 8/9 weeks and couldn't leave the house, so poor J went stir crazy. The vomming has been earlier and more intense than before, and I'm struggling not being able to sleep whenever I need to. Really ready for it to be over, but at the same time terrified of having a baby and a toddler!

HabbyHadno · 29/03/2017 16:14

Anyone else been called for a GP appointment after getting their letter from the Consultant to discuss it?

My GP called today to make an appt within the next week, but wouldn't tell me why, I'm a bit baffled.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 29/03/2017 16:35

Habby to discuss your consultant appointment? Or is it blood test results? How many weeks are you?

peaceloveandbiscuits · 29/03/2017 16:44

It's been four working days (plus Saturday and Sunday) since my GTT so I'm allowing myself to breathe a sigh of relief!

HabbyHadno · 29/03/2017 17:42

I was told it was to discuss the letter, I haven't had any blood tests for ages so it can't be that. I'm 25 weeks today. I'm not sure why they'd want to see me.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 29/03/2017 17:44

How weird! Seems rather pointless to me. Have you had your 25 week midwife appointment yet?

HabbyHadno · 29/03/2017 17:55

No, I don't get one as it's my second pregnancy, I had a normal BMI last time so all this OTT care is throwing me a bit this time, especially seeing as everything else apart from my BMI is fine.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 29/03/2017 17:59

My bloody midwife has decided to treat this as my first pregnancy because of my "issues" Hmm so I've got the pleasure of a 31 week GP appointment which will be waste of both of our time.

Could you request a telephone appointment for least hassle?

MotherOfBeagles · 29/03/2017 18:42

Hello, room for a not so little one? I'm 9+3 and a size 20. Had hoped to lose weight before pregnancy but ended up with a 6 month chest infection and basically bed rest that then turned into a bfp my first month well! So oh well lol.

Anyway. Hi! Blush

MrsB12345 · 29/03/2017 18:50

Hi everyone. Sorry been a little stacked and feeling rubbish so been getting into bed really early. I'm 8w5d @MotherOfBeagles and also a size 20. How are you feeling? Have you got your scan booked in?

OP posts:
MotherOfBeagles · 29/03/2017 18:56

Hi mrsB I'm ok I think. I feel really numb at the minute don't seem to feel anything - except irrational frustration with my dh Blush lol. Had my booking in appt last week but didn't get weighed and no one mentioned my BMI so a bit confused as to what that means. They said I was low risk and at this stage could choose home or birth centre or hospital but according to the leaflet with my BMI I have to go to the hospital. Did anyone else get weighed?

My scans booked for the 11th, no feelings about it lol. Just numb. It's bizarre.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 29/03/2017 19:30

Yeah got weighed here. I'd take that as a win, Beagles!

HabbyHadno · 29/03/2017 19:56

Welcome Beagles!

NauseousNancy · 30/03/2017 19:24

Welxome beagles :)

Peace I would take that as a win with your gtt!! They made a mess of mine....got told I had it...then another call to say I actually don't. Night shift midwife read my results wrong. Still reeling a bit from it!

Habby, I haven't heard from my gp at all, everything has just been through my midwife/consultant.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 30/03/2017 20:01

Had a letter in the post today to say they were normal Grin I'm so relieved. They were 4.3 with DS and 4.5 this time, so not even borderline. I don't know why I get myself so worked up about this stuff Blush I was convinced I had it!

MrsB12345 · 01/04/2017 10:03

Morning all. I've got my midwife app on Monday. As a plus size mummy to be what should I expect to be asked?x

OP posts:
peaceloveandbiscuits · 01/04/2017 10:45

Is it your booking appt? They'll ask you a billion questions about your family history and your health, and will do a risk assessment based on your answers, and your BMI. There's two high risk pathways, BMI >30 and BMI >35.

You'll be weighed, so don't wear jeans Wink

If you're quite sensitive about your weight, try to steel yourself because it can be upsetting and frustrating (especially when you're hormonal) to be told you will need all these interventions and that certain choices are taken away from you. Remember that their only goal is the safe delivery of your baby, but remember too that you're free to decline anything they suggest.

I declined clexane injections in both my pregnancies because I have a history of post-party haemorrhaging. They weren't happy, but I feel safe in my decision. I also declined the increased dose of folic acid, because it was making me feel unwell - again, it was my risk to take, and I knew that DS was perfectly fine on the usual dose, and this one has been fine too.

Oh and make sure you drink plenty of water because you'll have to do a sample.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 01/04/2017 10:49

Post-party Grin I meant post-partum, obviously.

Also meant to add you'll probably be referred to the anaesthetist to see if you're too fat suitable for an epidural. Last time round my appointment never happened, so he came into the delivery suite when I was in labour Hmm I said to DH, I hope you're listening to what he's saying, because I'm really not. I was considered suitable but didn't need one.

PrtyPsn · 02/04/2017 07:26

Hi lovelies!
I'm plus size (roughly size 22) and pregnant with my first DS (29+5)
Looking for someone to share my moan or some tips maybe?
Not only have I got excess fat on my stomach but I've also got an anterior placenta. I'm finding it so frustrating not knowing wallet position baby is in - I just can't feel any definite big lumps (hard or squishy!) and all I ever feel are low down movements - no clue if it's a punch or kick!!

Teaspoon74 · 02/04/2017 09:08

Prtypsn hiya! Also sz22. Also 1st. But further on - nearly 34wks. Struggle to tell whether being kicked or punched most times but glad feeling movement!!

Breach at the moment but fingers crossed she turns!!!!
